Snow Effect

Rate this book
Nicki Cartwright is one snowflake away from losing her dazzling TV camera smile. Between her mother interfering in her non-existent love life, a spotlight-stealing co-worker, and the threat of the snow storm of the decade, Nicki wants nothing more than to run away to a tropical beach. Instead, she lets herself be talked into attending the McNair’s 50th anniversary party.

Randy Stephenson’s drive from Chicago was uneventful until a winter blast made the last thirty-something miles nearly impassable. By the time he makes it to his grandparent’s cabin, an anniversary party is the last thing he wanted to endure. But finding Nicki there, the girl he had always regretting leaving, makes him glad he came.

Turns out fate-or maybe just a set of scheming grandparents-has plans for them. Stranded at the cabin, alone and with no real party in sight, they’ll have to face old hurts and an electric attraction. Is great sex, a little honesty, and a potentially priceless painting enough to mend a broken heart?

I've lost track of how many books I've read by Dena Garson, but they always leave me happy. Snow Effect was no exception. I love second chance stories and this one had a nice little dollop of suspense to go with it. The characters are lovely and richly developed and I ended up a surprised when the villan was revealed.

The best part about this book was the romance. Okay, the romance AND the locale. I swear, I wanted to book a mountain lodge right afterward. If you're looking for a warm romance in a cozy setting with a twist of suspense, this is the one for you.

I read this book as part of the boxed set Star Crossed, which I received an ARC copy of in exchange for my honest review.

I loved it! This was a super cute story. It's the first Dena Garson book and it has definitely left me wanting to read more of her work. This was a really sweet romance that also had some hot sex. Nicki and Randy have a history. Eight years ago, Randy ran out on Nicki without so much as an explanation and she hasn't heard from him since. He broke her heart then, but is hoping this weekend can be something of a second chance for him to get it right. He's determined to make it right between them. This book had some well fleshed out characters. Nicki works for her local news station on a segment called Art at Dark (her brain child). She managed to piece herself back together after Randy shattered her so many years ago and has made a success of herself. Randy has also achieved success as the co-owner of an architectural firm. Over the course of the book, we also meet many other characters. Charlotte (Nicki's grandmother) and Steve (Nicki's best friend) are her confidants and the people she cares about the most. Nicki's coworkers include Bob (her boss), Yvonne (the woman under whom Nicki interned who is also in charge of the entertainment portion of the station and covets Nicki's segment), and Ed (who is just downright creepy). While we never actually meet him, we hear a bit about Vince (Randy's business partner) as well. The book hooked me from the start. It was a cute, interesting story that kept me engaged until the last page. The book features a HEA ending with no cliffhanger. I would highly recommend this book.

This is my first book by this author. I am also not a big fan of second chance romance but was happily surprised by this book.

The story is about a couple who found themselves thrown together after a long time being a part. There are feelings to work out and mysterious paintings to find and love to rekindle.

It is a sweet story and had me hooked.

This was an entertaining and sweet short romance story, with some erotic scenes. My first read by Dena Garson. Nicole Cartwright takes a couple of days vacation from her "Art at Dark" TV programme to head to a secluded lake-side cabin for a family celebration. After making it there just before a wild snow storm, she's surprised to find the cabin empty, until her ex-boyfriend, the one she'd never gotten over, also turns up, along with a power cut. Neither of them aware that the party had been cancelled. A great little story of second chance at love with a twist thrown in as well. I really enjoyed it, the sexual tension and build up was nicely paced, the descriptive scenes were effective, clearly painting the landscape for me. I'd class this as a standalone HFN (happy for now). I was left wanting more, with a few unanswered questions from plot threads that I thought would be made more of, but it was a very enjoyable and well written read with some nice steamy scenes for those that like a little erotic in their romance.
