Since being discovered as Soulless, Nadia has become a target for both terrorist groups and government corporations. Now, her only hope for survival rests in the hands of the man sent out to kill her: Diesel, the Mad Dog terrorist.

Diesel is determined to free himself of the never ending curse of reincarnation and the haunting memories that plague his mind. But when his search leads him to Nadia, a greater desire stills him from taking her life.

Unable to see into Diesel's cracking mind, Nadia instead puts her faith into his strength, fueled by eleven generations of unmatched rage and insanity. Their tight-rope relationship balances the two between life and death, love and rage, trust and betrayal.
Tension pulls at the hems of their dangerous companionship, and as time runs out all madmen must eventually make their choice.

Book two of the thrilling Immortal Gene series dives deeper into the danger of trusting your heart over your head.

description

I thought the first book was intense but heck this sequel beats the first book by a lot! I mean, the action and battle for survival was just constantly present throughout the whole story. There was only one small moment where I thought that there was a resemblance of peace but of course that quickly vanishes in the next scene in the plot. There is a great quote from Nadia "Stabbed. Beaten. Drugged. Shot. Drowned. Choked. My will to survive continues to surprise even myself.", and I have to agree, her still being alive surprises even me. In fact, how they didn't both ended up being dead is still a huge mystery to me.

Anyway, what I loved about this story was the plot and how it continues and evolves in comparison to the first book. In the first book we get to know the broken world these people have to live in but in this sequel it's all about how to make a better world, how to find the cure and yet again how to not get killed while doing all that. There are many foes, even ones that turn in the end to allies. Also, there were some character I was actually really glad they died because they were really just scum that needed to be put down. As for Nadia and Diesel, I loved them together. They are an unusual pair, one the couldn't be more different from the other but somehow that works for them. We get to see the more darker and twisted side and also the gentler side of both of them. Also to see a small fragment of Diesels horrible past, that was so touching. I think that made me understand him more.

The plot thickens and we get some amazing answers in this story but the big twist at the end makes me want to read the final third book ASAP! I can't believe how the author chose to end the story, that's so mean. But I'll live, maybe... This is definitely a book worth reading!

Soulfinder by Jacinta Maree is a sequel to a novel I’ve already read, which was why I was so eager to read it! I didn’t remember as much of the first novel’s storyline as I wanted to by the time I got around to read this, but when I started reading it gradually all came back to me again. I also remembered the first novel being incredibly fast paced with an insane plot and this crazily toxic back and forth romance… I wondered how this novel would pan out after that one.

The beginning of the novel was really confusing to me. The first book ended on a cliffhanger, and instead of having a bit of a recap before getting back to the cliffhanger point, this one starts off right where the cliffhanger ended. Because I couldn’t quite remember the characters, and what was happening at that exact moment after the gap between me picking up these books, for the first two chapters I was really confused. Confused about what was happening and who each character was, but as I have already mentioned, in time it all came drifting back and I was able to slide my way back into the story.

Events in this novel happen just as fast as they did in book one. We go from one thing being the center point, to that being ripped away and replaced with something else from chapter to chapter. I don’t think there is a better way for me to explain it than that. It leaves the reader lost and discombobulated sometimes, but then again, I loved the fast pace at the same time? It meant I was never bored, never knew what to expect, and that something was happening. At times I did feel like a fish swimming in deep waters – totally submerged and unaware of my surroundings – but I enjoyed being that fish. I hope that’s not too confusing ;)

The romance in this novel is just as toxic, back and forth and hot as ever. This is not a clean read, but it is a much cleaner one than I remember the first book being. Diesel is a really chaotic character because of his personality, but we get to see more of Nadia’s human and vulnerable side in this novel. Nadia does want to be loved – properly. And Diesel doesn’t always know how to, but he does want to love Nadia. I found it so sweet… and there was a time in this novel where we really got to look into Diesel’s past and his past lives. At that point, we really learned something new about the romance too. So I definitely liked the romance in this novel.

This novel is just as gruesome and graphic as the first one. The world building is perfect, and really demonstrates how horrible earth has become. The way people treat each other is disgusting. And Diesel has done some equally horrific things in his past lives. We really get to see that in this novel. The previous novel didn’t make the world sound peachy either, but this is the novel where it affected me more than I expected it too. I feel like the author has really upped her game…

There were a few typos in the novel. Not too many to be really bothersome when reading, but enough for me to feel the need to mention it here. The ending was incredibly suspenseful, and then BANG! It was another cliffhanger -.- So this means I have to wait for book three! I will definitely be biting my nails anxiously as I’m waiting for the finale in the series.

I spent a long time debating between giving this book four or three stars. In the end, I settled for three. But if the third book will be anything like this one, or even better, I think it will be enough to tip it into four!

This is about a dystopian world set in the distant future where everyone is reincarnated. As nice as it might seem to live on forever reincarnation has had devastating effects. Theres a medication that can help suppress the insanity caused by past life memories for those lucky enough to afford it. However the knowledge of being able to live on forever has created a lack of care for human life and a detachement from peoples inner humanity. Nadia who doesnt have past life memories doesnt understand why love and family means nothing to people.

Soulless ended on such a cliff hanger I was really excited to start this gripping sequel. I found myself enjoying this installement a lot more because I knew what to expect. I was able to appreciate it for what it is; a dark and brutal world that doesnt shy away from societies worse traits. I loved the brutality in the Red Rising Trilogy and this series has even more of it. The author doesnt shy away from death and mature themes. Its shocking in a very exciting way. Its the type of story that stays with you long after you finished reading it.

Due to people being reincarnated as both genders we get some gender fluid characters which I really appreciated. Everything in this world is intense and destructive, including the relationships. I never know if I hate or love Diesel. Most of the characters are morally gray at best but its such a thrilling change from your typical main characters. Nadias small acts of humanity stand out in stark contrast to everyones indifference.

The brutal world and the violence made it difficult to connect with the characters, especially since they might die at any moment. Their choices were also difficult to relate to but I still felt fear for them. The characters still had some redeeming qualities and they werent unlikable to the point where they were annoying, like in some novels. Nadias humanity helped me not feel completely detached from her perspective. There were also other side characters that were more approachable, like Hiro and Riki.

One of my favorite parts was the survival aspect and the world but the plot was also pretty captivating. I loved how I didnt see some of the plot twists coming. Im rarely surprised anymore but this book hit the mark. I read this wonderful book in two sittings. It was so intense I couldnt put it down. This was an action packed story with great pacing but its not for the faint of heart. I cant wait for the next installement and I hope I get a chance to review it. Im participating in the Book Tour for Soul Finder on November 8th.

Title: Soul Finder
Author: Jacinta Maree
Genre: NA Dystopian
Format: Ebook
Shelf: Review
Pages: 263
Rating: 5
Heat: 3

Thoughts: This picks up right where book one left off seamlessly. I am really enjoying this series so far and I’m kinda bummed now that I’m going to have to wait for the next book. I love the relationship between Diesel and Nadia. They are so in love with each other but because life isn’t easy they both keep each other at arm’s length. Mistrust and fear seem to rule most everyone in this dystopian world along with greed and selfishness so allowing yourself to love or be loved is a dangerous thing. And due to people going crazy with all the memories crowding their brain I wouldn’t be surprised if fights happened when the wrong name is spoken. Sorry, it’s just how my mind works. I wonder if any lovers found each other again, if they searched for each other, or how often they were the same gender, or in the same family, or the age difference. Anyway, if you’re looking for something a bit different then I totally think you need to start this series, and then wait like the rest of us for the next book lol.

DISCLAIMER: I received a copy of this book (as well as the first book) in exchange for honest review.

I say this often: I don't know how many heart attacks I can take! After becoming addicted to the first book, I surged through this one without cease. This book picks up where the last book left off on a cliffhanger. LITERALLY.

Diesel is as bad-ass as ever, but we are not in his head, we are still in Nadia's. Being the prophesied Soulless, Nadia is pretty much running for her life. Diesel is hunting her. Talk about "trusting your heart over you head".

I mentioned this in my Goodreads review for the previous book, that you can say this book is very similar to the Tom Cruise movie, Minority Report, with a mixture of Divergent. Now I am adding The Maze Runner.

I want so badly to have physical copies of this on my shelf. Those covers are so eye-catching, semi-brightly colored, but mysterious. I wonder what the third book's cover will look like . . . Also, I want to know what happens next! I am left with questions that I can't even verbalize!

My heart may never recover!

Oh...my....goodness! So I read this and I honestly could not put it down. It's intense and had me on the edge of my seat. It was action aplenty. My heart may never recover from the workout it got because I swear it was racing with anticipation throughout. This is a masterpiece. I will keep saying that it needs to be a movie. It's epic. It's action packed and Jacinta Maree has totally kicked it out of the park with this one.

Nadia is on the run. She is running for her life. She is a Soulless. Terrorist as well as the government are after Nadia. Nadia is a survivalist and will do just about anything to stay out of their hands even if it means running right into the arms of the man that was sent to kill her, Diesel. Nadia doesn’t trust anyone but if she is going to make it out alive then Diesel is the best man for the job besides Nadia is very attracted to Diesel. And when they are together to sparks fly.

Diesel is so tired of all the lives he has lived or more like he is tired of all the memories from past lives and wants to end reincarnation and he needs Nadia to do this. But old Diesel is having very strong feelings for Nadia and wants nothing more now than to keep her safe. Diesel along with everyone else doesn’t think he is capable of caring about anyone much less love them. But Nadia can get him to do things that no one has ever gotten him to do before.

Nadia wants to survive; Diesel wants a cure for reincarnation. Can one or both of them get what they want? Will their love for one another survive? Will they find the cure for reincarnation? To find the answers you will have to read Soul Finder to find out if they get what they want or not.

I have loved following along with Nadia on her journey through Soulless and now Soul Finder. I have really enjoyed reading about reincarnation and the Soulless. Soul Finder is one of those books that will grab your attention right from the first page and will not let go long after you have closed the book. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I read Soulless, the first book in the Immortal Gene series and started on Soul Finder the same night. Overall, I really enjoyed the first book and was excited to see how the story progressed, especially with the HUGE cliffhanger the first book ends with.

The only thing that I found a little disappointing was how Nadia goes from super strong and independent to dependent on Diesel. It seems like throughout a lot of the book, she struggles with her feelings of self-worth depending on Diesel's perception of her. I really would have liked for her to continue being as strong and confident while in a relationship with Diesel. However, the author does a good job at explaining the nuances of their relationship, even if I might have preferred things a bit differently.

Besides this, the book was very well-written, and the author does a great job of story building. The story also has a very unique concept.

Although I was super excited to move from the first book to the second, I am sad that I will have to wait to see what happens next.

Soul Finder, is still as adrenaline filled and heart pumping as the first. There is seriously never a dull moment in this trilogy. You wonder what Jacinta has up her sleeve next.

After, leaving us with a cliff hanger with Soulless. We are quickly thrown in to Nadia’s world again. With Diesel ever so present. Why do I love Diesel, so much? He’s the character you love to hate and hate to love.

This story doesn’t hide anything. The chaos, the death, but still the hope that lies within some of them. There’s a lot that happens in this story. But the way its written, it doesn’t feel over done. And your not stopping to wonder, what the heck you’re reading. It really had my full attention. I may have read slowly, I just didn’t want it to be over so fast.

Jacinta has done an amazing thing with this trilogy. it grabs you, takes you on this ride. Where even though our worlds are super different. You can relate to the humanity, that still lives in a few of them.

Overall, Of course I give it Five Boundless Stars....Lissa

I loved this one just as much as the first one.

So I still love Diesel and Nadia, even though Nadia is trying to stretch her wings a bit in this one. She is coming into her own and trying to find out the kind of person she wants to be. Even though she makes some mistakes along the way I respect her for that, I mean how is a person supposed to learn if they don't make a few mistakes here and there. Diesel of course takes this to heart, he needs to learn how to forgive. Perhaps he will... Nadia also had to learn to survive with out Diesel always being there, they get separated continuously through out their journey. So in all it is a good thing she is questioning and getting answers on her own about everything including Diesel, otherwise she may regret it down the road, if she lasts that long that is.

I am such a huge fan of Jacinta Maree. Everything I have red of her is brilliant and creative and just dark enough to keep me on my toes.
Soul Finder was no exception. Action, suspense, dark horrors of the world she created. I loved it, obviously.
Nadia is such a bad ass and Diesel... Oh crazy arse Diesel, how I love you.
Fast paced and gripping you don't want to miss out on this epic series. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!

The wait is over!
I've been waiting anxiously for the next instalment in this amazing and unique series and now the second book is finally here! And the wait has definitely been worth it.
The book opens with Nadia being captured, and you don't know what's going on until she meets up with a group of rebels and Diesel.
Oh, Diesel. Their romance is so love/ hate and i love it. So much sexual tension. That shower scene was hot!
I love the whole history behind the Soulless and the special serum and the man who created all of it.
There were bits in the book that practically made me gag, made me laugh out loud, and a bit teary.
I can't believe i now have to wait for the next book!
Amazing series. Amazing writing. I recommend it to fans of the genre.

“I’m going to save the world…”

When I think of the world in Soul Finder, I think of that quote from The Tempest by Shakespeare, “…Hell is empty and all the devils are here.” Looking at the world through Nadia’s eyes, her world is really horrible, filled with horrible people doing horrible things to other horrible people. Granted, the people in Nadia’ world has suffered, and suffered over again. But all human decency seems to have petered out, leaving only wickedness behind. But like the hope in Pandora’s box, Nadia seems to be the hope at the bottom of the box for many people not just herself. So, as a warning, Soul Finder may be crueler than the first book in The Immortal Gene Trilogy, but there is enough light to see the shadows of hope.

“Hmm, so what do you call those that love a monster like me, huh?”

Soul Finder is the second book in the trilogy. Middle books are notoriously hard for me to love. Mainly because they feel like a filler or a rickety rope bridge between the beginning and the end. But Jacinta Maree surprised me again with her way of words and world building. If you thought you knew everything about the Soulless world, you are wrong. Soul Finder was able to turn everything I knew about the world on its head. I adore dystopian novels…but mix reincarnation into a broken world is crazy, unique and awesome. Maree’s great strength lies in her characters and premises. Each character holds a story and helps push the story onwards.

“I learnt something about myself I didn’t like…”

Soul Finder may be a middle child, but don’t let that worry you. Because it can shatter all misconceptions of the middle book in a trilogy. Instead of time skipping, it drops you into the frying pan. To be on point, we start at the point where Nadia was last in Soulless. The action is seamless and packed full of feels. & you all I know how much I love my feels. Nadia and Diesel are still in the throes of love and distrust. Nadia is still quick witted and prone to surviving everything the world throws at her. It seemed to me that we get so much more information and insight into Diesel. Frankly, Diesel’s mind scares me and makes the story just that much more real and dark. Even though Soul Finder is written in Nadia’s POV, so much understanding is given to each character that Nadia interacts with. We find out more about the so-called prophecy, and what Diesel has gone through.

“He was damaged. He was crazy. He was unpredictable and reckless, and in this stupid moment, he was mine.”

The introduction of so many new characters that are vital to the plot left me reeling, and scrambling to catch up at times. Each nugget of information and new twist flowed well in the story, but at periods the pace was a bit too fast for me to keep everything straight. Granted that didn’t stop me from devouring this saga. The premise and plot are solid and interweave naturally into the dialogue and exposition. Soul Finder has a lot of world exploring mixed into the action. The romance is still as angsty, and heart clenching as it was in Soulless. I saw a lot of character growth, as well cute scenes of where a character flaw is shown.

“We were a candle on fire, destined to destroy each other.”

Seriously, why are you still here reading this…go read this book and all others by Jacinta Maree. 5 out of 5 stars for a gritty, dark and fantastical story that leaves you gasping for more. Just make sure to pick up your heart pieces to put back together later. Soul Finder is unique and continues the search for the cure to the cursed reincarnation and Nadia’s quest to know more about herself and other soulless.

This book was reaaaally good! Book one was pretty intriguing and it ended with a cliffhanger and I was curious to know what happened next. Soul Finder definitely didn't disappoint and I enjoyed the ride! You can read my review of Soulless, book 1 here.

Nadia is on the run with Diesel after being experimented and tortured for being a soulless in a generation of reincarnations. But their journey is stopped short as they are taken by another group. When Nadia discovers a shocking truth, she sets out to search for it. Will she be able to reach the core of the truth or will she be captured before that?

The plot was really intriguing. It picks up from where book 1 was left off. We dive back right into action and it's one my favourite aspect of this series. Nadia and Diesel both escaped the prison where they were beaten, tortured and experimented, especially Nadia. They are both searching for a cure to stop the reincarnation drama because it's taking a toll on everybody's sanity and if it's replaced by another drug, then there's no hope for humanity left. This book was packed with action and adventure and I loved how the story was executed. The starting of this book was a bit dull but it picked up its pace soon enough.

I did like Diesel and Nadia's realtionship in book 1 though it was kinda out of place. But in this book Diesel confused me more than ever. I know he went through a lot and reincarnation memories takes a toll on everybody but it was still weird because he felt different. I guess that was the point, though at the very last moment, like Nadia I felt for him.  Nadia was a kickass heroine and I loved her. Hiro was a great addition to the team, although he was pretty naive about the world, I enjoyed how he found a place among them.

Overall. Soul Finder was a good read! I enjoyed the plot and the characters. The writing was smooth and easy to read. The pace differed a little in the beginning but it was mostly fast paced. This book also ended in a kind of cliffhanger and I can't wait to know what happens next!

Recommend it?

Middle books are notoriously tough. And because of that, I’m never sure if I should have high expectations, or low. Obviously, I want the book to blow me away, but at the same time, deep in the recesses of my mind, I have this prepped feeling of disappointment, ready to pull out at a moment’s notice.

The first hurdle of my middle-book judgement is the recap. It is the author’s job to remind us where we left off, without causing a massive info-dump. In this case, I didn’t reread the first book (my bad), so I was instantly struggling. There wasn’t a ton of recap, or any to speak of in the first few scenes. It read exactly as though it were simply the next chapter of the first book. So, I’m going to straight up recommend that you don’t leave too much time before reading this sequel. I did eventually piece together enough of my memories to reorient myself, but I hit the ground running.

What I liked best about the first book was the originality of the story. Not just the plot, which is complex and ever-adapting, but also the characters. I honestly don’t know whether I should love them or hate them. Do I trust them, or turn them over to the hands of my enemies? And there do seem to be a lot of enemies! So, luckily for me, everything that I loved the first time around, has been carried over through the rest of the series. Right up to the end of this sequel, I still found that all of these lines between right and wrong are deliciously blurred, leading the reader through an emotional rollercoaster.

Is the book without its flaws? Certainly not. The verb tenses got weird a few times, and there were scenes that left me feeling confused about what I had just read. BUT the good far outweighs the bad. Jacinta Maree knows how to write action, no doubt! I would love to see her notes, because this story has become so massive! There is always so much going on, not just center stage, but also waiting in the wings. I could easily drive myself crazy trying to figure out where this story is headed, so it’s best if I just close my eyes, hold on tight, and enjoy the ride.

Oh, my poor heart. It hurts.

That ending was just... ugh! It can't leave me hanging like that. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger, necessarily, but definitely left my head spinning and I am not looking forward to the wait for the third book. I never knew I could get this attached to a Dystopian series!

We once again follow the crazy journey of Nadia and Diesel as they try to survive the harsh world around them and save themselves and everyone else from the mental insanity caused by human immortality. Nadia is confused about the prophecy that implicates her as being a savior to what is left of the human race.

Characters come back that we thought were dead, new companions arrive, people perish in the most horrific ways. And the pacing from the first book continues. Quick and fierce with barely a chance to catch your breath before being thrown into another dire situation or battle for survival.

The romance between Nadia and Diesel is more prominent in this book, too, leading to realizations and proclamations. But don't think for a second that Nadia fully trusts Diesel, by any means. And Diesel's behavior even left me second-guessing him, at times. Their angsty romance is intense and definitely beyond compare.

Yet, I still root for their happily-ever-after, if such a thing is even possible in this futuristic world. There has been tremendous character growth for both Nadia and Diesel, and I was happy to see Nadia becoming more assertive in the last half of the book.

Wish me luck as I impatiently wait for the next installment!

In closing...
Danger, romance, strife, and a fight for survival. Four suns for Soul Finder!

I've been eagerly anticipating getting round to this since its release in September. I absolutely loved Soulless, and Soul Finder is a worthy sequel, picking up pretty much where its predecessor left off.

The thing I loved most about Soul Finder was its cast of characters. Maree is, and always has been, brutal in this series - characters stick around long enough for us to love them before we see them cruelly ripped away. The Immortal Gene Universe is a harsh and unforgiving one - the writing doesn't shy away from that. Whilst Soul Finder followed suit, there were some nice additions to the cast, helping to flesh out Nadia's story.

Nadia's development as a toughened heroine continued to grow. A large part of her motivation comes from her need to find her sister, Annie. This is re-visited here in harrowing fashion, as is her relationship with Diesel. Writing a romantic interest with a character whose multiple past lives are as violent as they can be hateful can't be an easy task. Maree's ability to make the relationship between Diesel and Nadia at times sweet and soft whilst also often terrifying and painful is masterful. I love and hate their pairing in equal measure; and feel the bittersweet nature of the couple throughout. I felt Soul Finder gave us plenty of them together whilst also continuing to establish Nadia's struggling for morality; something she and Diesel greatly differ on.

The overall plot arc of finding a way to stop the downfall of mankind developed little; every step forward was marred with two steps back. The introduction of a new main character was the most solid contribution and I'll be interested to see how their part in the story plays out. However I didn't mind the elongation, as it made the need for a sequel more real - and I certainly can't wait to read the next installment after the cruel cliffhanger Soul Finder left me with!

**I received a copy of this book from YA Bound Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

This was a solid sequel from start to finish.

Not only does it hit the ground running in terms of action, but it also builds in terms of the plot. I really enjoyed the dramatic developments we get throughout this story. There were many things that happened that I wasn't expecting and I found that to be very refreshing. I love when stories surprise me like that. Nothing about this is typical or cliche which is awesome and I think that is in thanks to the gritter and dark edge this sequel has to its predecessor.

However, I did have a bit of a rough start with this novel. I don't think starting it when I was a little tired was a good idea because I struggled a little to keep straight was was happening exactly. Everything moves at a fast pace in this story and so I found myself getting a little behind in the first few chapters. But it really gets a good flow and progression around the 25% mark and maintains that throughout.

We get a little more romance here and I really appreciated that. But at the same time, I'm glad it wasn't the primary focus of the novel and that the plot stays focused on Nadia learning more about the Soulless and the world.

I can't wait to see what happens next and how this story will all wrap up!

Diesel captivated me in book one. I was not sure what to make of him. I could clearly understand Nadia’s need to have him close. He had 1100 years of strength, protection, bad-ass-ness on his side. She needed the strength and protection to make it to the next day, but she did have a healthy dose of fear of this man. While at the same time her attraction to him grew.

Everything seemed to flow flawlessly into action. We see thing begin where the first left off. I was so excited and amped up to get to reading. I wasted no time. As I turned closed the first, I opened this one and began my continued adventure. Action packed. Adventure.

Diesel wanted an end the reincarnation. To do so he needed Nadia. He was sent to kill her, but there was something within him pushing he to protect her. She was the one thing in his world that he cared about. But love was not a part of his make up or was it. Join in on this adventure see where the race for reincarnation goes or does it end or change.

I was able to read book 1 & 2 back to back. I am sitting her on the precipice of the next release. I so have this on my must have, must read, must obtain. The final installment in this trilogy will be something. I will start all over again with book 1. I will need my dose all at once please. Thank you.

Both Diesel and Nadia are put thru hell in this book. Their wills to survive are great as they each keep going no matter how badly they are hurt. We see more of the horrors that humanity has to offer and learn that the system in place is not as secure as they want the people to think. I loved learning more about Diesel and his past as well, even as disturbing as it was at times.

Diesel and Nadia each continue to hurt the other, though not always on purpose. Diesel's love for Nadia is almost a terrifying thing in the intensity of it because of his twisted thought process. Every time he has hurt her, though, it was in order to protect her. He refuses to lose her and will do anything and everything in order to not only keep her safe, but to keep her with him. With Nadia, when she hurt Diesel, it was mostly because she was angry with him or couldn't see that the terrible things he was doing was actually for her benefit. I felt bad for Diesel because Nadia told him her love for him was true and worth the pain, but when it hurt her too much she would always push him away and hurt him back. That's not to say they don't have sweet moments together. Because they do, and the effort that Diesel put in to be sweet was pretty great. And only made more impressive when we get a look into his memories and see just how much he wants to build a life with Nadia and how often all he does comes back to have something to do with her.

Nadia just can't seem to catch a break. Picking up right where the first book ended, she finds herself hauled out of the water, not by Diesel but by another enemy. Things go from bad to worse for her after she's captured and along with her we get to see another horrid group of humans. I kept waiting for Diesel to find her, and when he does things start to look up. But not for long at all. Diesel's Mad Dogs have been destroyed and they find themselves among a group called FRIM. It's a dangerous game the two of them play to survive, but Diesel has a plan. One that no doubt makes him even more enemies in the end. When Diesel and Nadia get free, they are no longer alone. Having found another soulless, Nadia insists on taking him with them. For a while I was wondering why they would even bother lugging this guy (Hiro) around but soon enough he starts to be semi useful. For as violent and mad as Diesel can be at times, he is crazy smart. And after months of working on it, Diesel has managed to find away to burn soul imprints into Nadia and Hiro's eyes so it's time for the next step. Getting into the city to find McKinnon. The environment of the city surprised me. I really expected it to be a better and safer place than any of the other places we have seen so far, but it really wasn't. It's just as dangerous inside those walls as it is outside. People are even killed right on the street and nobody even does anything about it. While in the city, some things go their way, but mostly not. They're even attacked and almost caught, but in the end they find a kind of sort of ally or two. Tensions are high between these two groups but they work together to each get what they want. They catch their target but the information they get from him brings nothing but great disappointment. That is until Nadia realizes something. Saving Hiro could very well be the very thing they need to save the rest of the world. But she figures this out just too late and Diesel has already left to enact his "plan B" after Nadia had again cut him deep with her harsh words. But she has also realized just how much she still wants to be with him. So with two things motivating her, she quickly sets out to find him before it's too late. For as messed up as Diesel is, I still love the guy so she better find him fast. And I can't wait to see how this is all going to end.

“I received a free copy of the book from the author/publisher via Xpresso book tours in exchange for my honest review ”

“He was damaged. He was crazy. He was unpredictable and reckless, and in this stupid moment, he was mine.”

First of all, I'd like to tell you guys how much I fell in love with the cover of this book. It looks so stunning and captivating. Diesel looks freaking hot in that picture and now we finally have a face to visualize. Secondly, Soul Finder is definitely a thrilling sequel to the Soulless. After the crazy cliffhanger in the last book, I was so looking forward to read this book. And boy this one was just damn crazy! The first book was amazing but the second one is quiet awesome. It's far darker than the previous installment and more action packed. Diesel is my main interest in this book and we see a whole different side of him that we aren't familiar with. This book was so intense that it pulls you into the story completely, making you forget where you are until the last page.

Nadia is a soulless who is born without a soul imprint and with the help of a criminal named Diesel, she escapes the alpha prison where she was being experimented like a guinea pig. Now Diesel and Nadia are the most Wanted people hunted by both terrorist groups and Government. After being discovered she was the prophesied soulless, once again Nadia's on the run for her life and her only hope lies in Diesel who was sent to kill her. Diesel pretty much hates the re-incarnation cycle that literally drives him insane and he fights the past lives memories that always haunts him. He wants to end the reincarnation cycle and Nadia is the only hope for finding the cure. Nadia can't deny the attraction she feels towards Diesel but the feeling of distrust is still there and she fears for the man she comes to love. In the journey of finding the cure, Nadia comes across some unexpected shocking truths and revelations that shakes her to her core.

Nadia has become more stronger than before. After being labeled as a prophesied Soulless, her struggle to survive without being discovered has become more difficult. She's a strong survivor and also a fighter who has endured horrific attacks from the drifters, criminals and government officials. She's also a brave and selfless girl who'll risk her life to save others. Diesel is quiet an enigma and this book gave a deep insight into him. He's a flawed and broken guy who's craving for a normal life without the curse of reincarnation cycle. His dark and scary personality definitely intrigued me but I'd obviously prefer his old personality which is far better cause who would love a scary bad guy. I enjoyed the romance. After admitting his feelings for Nadia, Diesel becomes more protective and obsessive like an Alpha male. I loved the hot and cold relationship between Nadia and Diesel. There is so much desire, angst, passion, rage and lust in their love that totally took my breath away. As for our newest character Hiro, I pretty much liked him. He is a likable character who is sweet, cute, fun and naive. I really hated Nadia when she tried to use him as a tool to make Diesel jealous.

The plot is well written and exciting. It was executed in a way to hold readers attention until the very end. The story moved in a fast pace filled with equal amount of action, suspense, intrigue, romance and adventure. I liked the character insights and developments. The author has a great writing style which I enjoyed through out the book. Although I enjoyed viewing the story from Nadia's perspective, I'd wish there was also Diesel's POV and I really really hope the next book has one. The book also has a great world building. The futuristic world the author has created is dark and twisted filled with greed, selfishness, distrust, suffering, fear and violence.

Overall, it was quite an intriguing read! This book was not only a thrill ride but also an emotional roller coaster and that massive cliffhanger at the end definitely frustrated the hell out of me. I want the next book right now cause I really think it's going to be pretty fantastic.

I just this very moment finished Soul Finder after having to first reread Soulless due to brain mushiness...It's a thing...I think...anyhow, I feel that I must go on record saying that this series has unceremoniously and repeatedly accosted my emotions..having all sense of Right and Wrong hijacked, held ransom and awaiting the final verdict found only in book #3 !! Proper words fail me at the moment BUT what I can articulate is Holy Gritty Hell shackled to a Crazy/Hot/Volatilly Codependent Love/Lust/insane romance (?!?)!! sound confusing and garbled? I agree! and I will definitely come back to this for a full (hopefully coherent) review after some time to ruminate. If you are in the market for a dark, disturbing, extremely well written dystopian series (with the same feel as Susan Ee' s Penryn & the End of Days series) then drop whatever it is you are presently doing and pick up book#1 Soulless...after much sleep deprivation you'll thank me for it later!! If you're still on the fence then stay tuned...a more fleshed out review to come...

I really enjoyed this book, it was engaging and had a really original and interesting premise. The characters are incredibly realistic and Jacinta had a wonderful skill for world building. I won this book in a competition and so had never read anything by Jacinta before, but will definitely be purchasing and copy of the first book and any others that follow on from this one. Can't wait to see where the story goes.

I bought Soul Finder immediately after finishing Soulless and I am glad that I did. From literal cliff hanger to cliff hanger this book had my full attention. The plot developed unexpectedly and there was never a dull moment. I can't wait to pick up my next book by Jacinta Maree; it will need to be a weekend, when I can read it in one sitting, because if it is anything like Soulless or Soul Finder I won't be able to put it down.

Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours and author Jacinta Maree for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review!

Soul Finder is the second novel in Australian author Jacinta Maree’s ingenious Immortal Gene series and once again captivates with its raw, brutal dystopian setting, strong tangible heroine and addictive romance.

Having been discovered as Soulless, Nadia has found herself wanted, hunted and sort out by various organisations who want to study her or take advantage of her lack of a soul imprint. Torn between putting her trust in Diesel, the fractured and often frightening individual who ignites her blood, and her own insecurities, Nadia must decide whether she can place her faith in Diesel even as he continues to struggle under generations of insanity. In a world where madness inhabits the minds of almost everyone in existence, Nadia and Diesel must battle for sanity, love and trust but as they fight to discover a cure for the insanity that plagues their world, will Nadia be able to trust the most important person in her life, or will Diesel’s past destroy their future?

The first novel in this series, Soulless has been one of my favourite books of this year and I was happy to discover that I seemed to enjoy Soul Finder equally as much. There’s something so raw and gritty about this post-apocalyptic trilogy that author Jacinta Maree details so well and in the vein of all the great dystopian tales out there.

Through Soul Finder Jacinta Maree explores new branches of her dystopian world not previously touched on in the first novel. Having made a daring escape at the end of the last novel, Nadia finds herself outside her normal city limits and we as the reader discover more about the outer areas surrounding the city where Drifters are aplenty and poachers linger. And then later on Maree takes us briefly into the heart of the place the Elites call home, highlighting the differences those of wealth experience in the Immortal Gene world.

Wonderfully written, Soul Finder continues to follow a strong protagonist in Nadia. Nadia has been through a lot already, and has to make some tough choices in Soul Finder. Nadia does things she never expected herself capable of in her fight to survive, but continues to remain a character that is easy to get behind, like and root for.

Maree continues to shape the series well; introducing new characters and allowing us to follow previous ones. I’m intrigued to see Hiro’s continued presence in the trilogy and what it will all mean in the end, as well as Jacky and Logan who were interesting additions also. But you know what? As insane as it may appear to some, my favourite part of the trilogy is and remains, for no logical reason, Diesel…..

I just love Diesel. He’s one of those characters that will draw every emotion possible from you at some point or another during your reading experience. From one extreme to the next, Diesel is a complex puzzle of an individual with more personality than seems possible. He’s psychotic and he’s rash, he’s unforgiving and he’s cruel, he’s brutal and he’s fierce but ohmygoodness does he care for Nadia. And that really is his saving grace at times.

As the story unfolds, Jacinta Maree makes it clear that Nadia and Diesel really aren’t a healthy couple in most senses. Diesel is a fractured, struggling human being whose tendencies lean towards violence, cruelty and selfishness, but when he is with Nadia, the best in Diesel shines through. And he does genuinely want to be good for her. Diesel isn’t a bad soul deep down and he does have the ability to show kindness and understand empathy, but all his past lives and their personalities have led him down a path towards madness. Nadia cares for him in a way I think he needs and with Nadia needing someone to pick her up at times and stand by her in this unforgiving world, Diesel may just stand a chance at redemption and happiness if he lets himself love her as it's clearly evident he does.

A sequel well worth a read, Soul Finder packed a lot of excitement and development into its pages and leaves me eagerly anticipating the third and final book in the trilogy, Soul Reaper, to discover how Jacinta Maree plans to conclude this spectacular series!

The quest for a cure to end this seemingly endless reincarnation cycle continues in the action-packed second instalment of The Immortal Gene trilogy. It’s only been a few months since I read Soulless but I spent a good 20% of this book trying to recall what happened in the previous book. After that 20% had passed, the plot really started to kick in and I was hooked.

4 stars

Soulless ended with Nadia falling off a cliff and into the water below it, seeing proof that she is actually a Soulless, and readers were left hanging when she passed out. This book picks up immediately where Soulless left off, with Nadia being rescued from the water and eventually brought to a place where she reunites with Diesel once more.

There were some new faces, and we revisited some old ones. Some died, some lived, and a few became some of my favourite characters in this series. But once again, because of the brutality the characters faced in their world, I was unable to connect to any of them. Yeah, sure, they have their redeeming qualities but relatable is not one of them.

I like Nadia’s character because she’s a fighter. She’s strong, independent, and loyal to those she hold dear. I didn’t understand her feelings towards Diesel in the previous book, and I still don’t. Back then, I hoped that maybe it’ll be better developed in the next two books, and while we did get more interactions with Nadia and Diesel, with Diesel seemingly reciprocating Nadia’s feelings towards him, Nadia has suddenly become overly attached to Diesel. She actively tries to grab his attention, even briefly hooking up with another guy in the hopes that Diesel will get jealous. Worry not, no love triangle ensued.

Diesel is still a character that is pretty much shrouded in mystery. Due to all the memories from his past lives crowding his mind, if he’s not on the D400, some characteristics of his past lives may just slip into his current self. Maybe in the third and final book, we’ll finally be able to uncover all the layers and know the real Diesel. But one thing seems to be constant, and that is his determination, be it his determination to find the cure to this vicious reincarnation cycle or his determination to protect Nadia.

I usually don’t go into political talk, mostly because what I want to say has already been phrased in a more impactful way by someone else, but also because I fear that I’ll come off as ignorant (due to assumptions or lack of information) or offensive (though this usually seems to be unavoidable). But in view of recent events, I feel the need to point out a quote from this book:

He kept walking, muttering the word ‘freak’ as he passed.
Eleven cycles of life and it seems some still could never get past
their own insecurities.

In Soul Finder , we meet a character who despite having been born as a guy, identifies as a girl instead. And even in a world torn apart by war and plagued by violence, poverty and madness, people are still unable to set aside their prejudices. This is reflective of some issues that plague our current world and this is what I love about dystopian books. Even though they can be set a billion years in the future, in one way or another, they still reflect the world we live in right now. And it’s little details like this that set you thinking. Is it human nature for some people in this world to hold such deep-rooted hatred? Despite our best efforts, is there truly no way we can change the mindsets of these people? Or if you prefer seeing things in a positive light, then how can we convince these people to let go of their prejudices?

Overall, this series has been amazing so far. It is dark, thrilling, thought-provoking and the reincarnation concept is just plain innovative. The characters, though not relatable, were loveable (well… not all of course). The romance was really the main thing that kept me from fully enjoying it.
