It's finally here! The latest in the bestselling Monster series: "Mindbreaker" from Award-winning and Bestselling author Carmen Caine! The next, "Rebel" is already in the works!
Revenge. After my first taste, I find I like it. But as I maneuver my way through danger, my idea of revenge is turned on its head.
My name is Cassidy. Cassidy Edwards. And I'm the first of my kind.
The Job Finding just who broke Dorian Ramsey's puppet curse and set the powerful vampire free. Only I've got a personal conflict of interest this time--it was me.
The Team A Drake itching for any excuse to pin the crime on me--guilty or not. A Keeper wanting to pitch me in a Nether Reach prison--just for existing. A Warlock I barely recognize.
The Curve Ball Dancing my way through the evidence, I uncover an avalanche of answers regarding my past and discover nothing is truly what it seems.
Like many of us on this planet, Carmen Caine/Madison Adler is from another world. She spends every moment she can scribbling stories on sticky notes that her kids find posted all over the car, house, and barn.
When she is not working as a software engineer, she is busy ferrying her kids to various appointments, writing lyrics for her husband's songs, taking care of the dog Tigger and his heart condition, attempting to tame her three insane cats, scratching her three Nigerian Dwarf Goats behind the horns or coddling her flock of thirty bizarre chickens from around the world.
Mindbreaker picks up right after the events of Spellfinder with Cassidy worried about hiding her part in freeing Dorian. Tabitha no surprise is pointing the finger her way and Lucian seems to be suspicious. Mindbreaker is a pretty short book, more of a novella really. The whole book focuses mostly around the problem of Cassidy hiding what she did. There is another story arc threaded in there that seems to be set up for what’s to come.
For this being a short novella I felt it dragged a bit. There was just too much time dedicated to Cassidy’s angst and her imp’s drug addiction. Lucian for much of the book was either a complete jerk or withdrawn. Cassidy seems pretty reactionary throughout and doesn’t really think anything through. There was a kiss between Cassidy and Lucian that just seems out of place and they lacked chemistry.
All in all this is a set up book for the most part and there is signs the story is moving forward but I wouldn’t call this installment exciting.
Blurb: Revenge. After my first taste, I find I like it. But as I maneuver my way through danger, my idea of revenge is turned on its head.

With Dorian free, Cassidy is in a tough spot. She has to figure out how to divert attention from herself. Things are changing in her relationships as truths are exposed. True, one of the Night Terrors, gives Cassidy more information about her father, who it turns out is the Mindbreaker. She has most of the powers he has, and more it seems, which she is keeping secret.
Cassidy keeps many secrets, even from Lucian whom she has a strong attraction/connection to. I can understand her not trusting other people, she doesn't have the best upbringing. She sees everyone as having ulterior motives, which I think is true. She is also starting to feel the isolation of her life and not liking the longing for more. However, I do think Lucian has feelings for her. But both of them are stubborn and the long game of their problems prevents them from exploring where their relationship is going.
I really like her imp Ricky. Turns out he is an elite imp and his turmeric addiction is his big problem. Cassidy is coming to rely on him more and he has been her source of information on how to wield her power.
There have been some breadcrumbs leading us to think that Emilio really is her father, but I think there is a distinct possibility that this is a diversion. There is a doppelganger that is unexplained that I think will be key in the coming installments.
Out of the whole 3rd installment i am leaving with a major annoyance of one thing. The word crud. It had to have been said 100 times and let me tell you, it became grating! It totally took away from the book for me. The other thing that bugged me was how much Cassidy withheld when talking about things with those that can help her and everyone else on her side! It's like this woman does nothing but make bad choices. I I also don't get why so many reviews love the imp. He's always asleep and on drugs, doing hardly anything to help. This particular book starts exactly where the second installment left off. Cassidy is just bluffing her way through having set Dorian loose and it's glaringly obvious that Lucien knows it. He also know now though, through the ruse of sniffing out the culprit, that Cassidy is loyal to him. I had hoped this would finally lead to something steamy but alas there were only 2 kisses. It's definitely YA still but at least the writing style doesn't cater to kiss (with the grand exception of the repeated use of crud as a cuss word). I sure wish Cassidy grows up soon because the whole "fake it till you make it" thing is getting old.
The previous installment in the Cassidy Edwards series left our MC in a bit of a predicament. Eager to find out how she was going to escape being found out by the fire drake, I immediately dove into Mindbreaker.
Although I did find the storyline intriguing, I actually had a hard time getting through it quickly. I wanted so badly for some major action to happen! It wasn’t until later on in the last third of the book or so that things started to go haywire and secrets were revealed. At this point in the book, I was completely enthralled in Cassidy’s story! This was the action I had been waiting for!! The shocking, action-packed ending of the book made reading the slower beginning of the book so worth it! It felt good to finally get a few answers!
In addition to the revelations, I enjoyed the puzzle that the author created. Once certain things were revealed I figured out that I could have seen this coming all along and figured out the mystery, if only I had picked up on the little bread crumbs along the way. As an avid watcher of crime shows and mysteries, I was very disappointed in my dismal mystery solving skills while reading this book. At the same time, however, not having things already figured out made the events that unfolded that much more shocking. I can’t wait to get started on book four and learn even more about Cassidy, Lucian, the Mindbreaker, and of course Ricky!!
This is the third installment in this series. We find that things are changing. Not only for Cassidy but for the others as well. We meet a few new characters that are a little different. This also does more in the origins of where Cassidy came from and how the circle of people she surrounds herself with are more familiar with each other than she thought.
This has non stop action in it as well. It easily kept my interest as I was trying to figure out how everything would end up. Would Tabitha get her? Why won’t Dorian stop talking to her? Will Ricky every get sober? Will Lucian and Cassidy ever get together?
I did listen to this on audio. Lynn Devereux just knocks my socks off with each of these I listen to. She does so well with the different languages that pop up in these books. I love listening to her
These are, without a doubt, books that you have to read all at once because if you pause for awhile, it is VERY hard to remember what the heck happened in the prior books. I actually had to read a bit back into the last book just to try and jog my brain for who everyone was and what was going on. It’s not that they are bad books, on the contrary, the storyline is soooo...complicated and their are so many characters you can get lost on who is who and who did what and why. It took until the last chapter to remember Elizabeth’s roll in all of this LOL. I downloaded the rest and the novellas and I’m going to read those n3 t without stopping just so I can keep up with the storyline better.
The storyline is really good. Its complex and constantly keeps you on your toes. The sexual tension, you can taste. You just sent Lucian and Cassidy to fall into the throughs of passion. Ricky is a delightly bit of humor in there. The plot keeps thickening, and I'm excited to see where this goes next.
I am giving this four stars because the story is really involved and well told. Just don’t listen to the audible version. The narrator sounds like she couldn’t give a sh$t. If you know me, ask me for my impersonation.
So, her father's identity becomes known to her, but she still persists in calling the Vampire her father. It's purpose is to get close to him, but as the time passes, and other things occur, the idea of who Mindbender becomes clearer, and the lines between enemy and allie blurs.
This is such a great storyline. I’m enthralled with these characters. There’s action, adventure and a lot of humour. Lynn is giving a brilliant performance throughout this series.
Not crazy about that it took a year waiting on this book. The plot was boring. Cassidy trying to prevent herself from going to prison for freeing Dorian were pretty much the story line. Lots of oh no I need to do this and that to not go to prison. Boring..and not much on the steamy or romance side really. This book was a filler in the series. It was pretty much about who's Cassidy and on learning about herself and who's her father really. Just an okay type of book. Disappointed really. The plot was too weak. I can't believed it took a year for this book when it wasn't even as good as the other two books. I do like the characters and where the story is heading so I will continue with following the series.
After aiding in the release of Scottish vampire, Dorian, Cassidy has to finesse her way through shark infested waters to keep from being discovered. Of course sexy Lord Lucian has enlisted the assistance of his top investigators both of whom don't like Cassidy.
As Cassidy attempts to thwart the investigation her turmeric addicted imp, Ricky helps her out more than once. Additionally, she discovers a secret he has been hiding. Then again, dealing with her mother and her lover, Emilio , Cassidy will learn some secrets of her heritage and future.
There are plenty of plot twists, subterfuge, and surprises in this little gem if a read. Oh, and let me say the sexual tension between Cassidy and Lucian is off the charts. Hopefully, book four will see it realized.
I am currently feeling that mouth hanging open what happened feeling. I kept waiting for the action and waiting and waiting with no real action that ever came. This reminded me of the second Twilight book New Moon. Bella spent a good half of the book crying all the time because she was deeply depressed over Edward. Cassidy spent the entire book babbling about getting caught. There was no movement with the attraction between Cassidy and Lucian. Cassidy seems somewhat childish. Hopefully the next book will be way better.
Cassidy finds herself in a fast paced track of vengeance but not knowing the players causes more harm than good in her quest. Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about the main characters. Cassidy and Lucian aren't likable characters. This particular story provided more of Cassidy's background regarding her origins but also left a lot of new questions unanswered. Decent character, storyline, & plot development
I enjoyed all three books in this series. The plots are well thought out, the dialogue is entertaining, and all three books held my interest. I only have one criticism and it is a significant one (but has a solution): there is too much time between books. While reading the most recent book I found it difficult to recall much of the story line from the previous two books. My advise is to wait until the final book in the series then read them through.
I really enjoy the chemistry between Cassidy and Luke, and I really hope the next book brings them closer. I am looking forward to the fireworks. The mystery of the mindbreaker is unveiling and the results are quite surprising. I definitely, did not expect to see this person as being the mindbreaker. I cannot wait until the next book. Surprises abound.
Cassidy and Julian have trust issues. So much would have been different with trust and communication. Cassidy learns about her past and Lucian gets a major wake up call. Health, Ricky and Tabitha and Stinx all have an active part to play and the story continues! Excellent book and well written !
Very Interesting! Loved seeing how the story developed from the last book through this one. Never a dull moment with Cassidy, Lucian and the rest of the crew. Some interesting twist and turns throughout this story. Can't wait to see what the next book has in store for us.
I've enjoyed this series all along and I enjoy how the author manages to enlighten our heroine along with us about her world and who/what she is. It was a good, quick read and I look forward to more.
I loved every minute of this book! Full of action and adventure. It has many unexpected twists and turns. Characters are well written and very likeable. I highly recommend it. Can't wait for the next book in this series!!!!
