"An honest tale speeds best, being plainly told," writes Shakespeare in his play, King Richard III. This is the simple tale of a snake and a lizard, both afraid that the other will see where they come up short. In the end, words mend and build bridges for both of them. The second book in the Literary Lizard Adventure series, this story introduces young readers to literature and acceptance of each other and themselves.

I loved this one even more than the first Literary Lizard adventure. I appreciate the way the author portrays the emotions that were involved in this meeting and eventual friendship!

When the Literary Lizard is pulled away from reading about his favorite subject, dragons, he is amazed to see a large yellow snake (in a glass container) has joined the library staff. Snake puts on a show for the children who visit but soon becomes bored. However, Lizard feels intimited by the snake and Snake feels inferior because Lizard can read. When the two bond over reading - Lizard teaches Snake - Snake finds his love of the classics. Soon the unlikely friends are helping children who visit the library learn to read.

A second charming book in the Literary Lizard series. Perfectly illustrated. Youngsters and adults alike will love this short but interesting book.
