After The Collapse

Rate this book
Ex-Army Ranger Stan Dalton and his wife know the world is changing, and not for the better. They’ve both had the undeniable feeling for some time now that something horrible is coming soon that could change their lives forever. They buy a remote cabin in the Colorado Rockies, and begin the process of preparing for hard times. When Stan’s wife dies of cancer, he must struggle to carry on alone with their plans.

Then the Collapse occurs, and it’s the worst economic and social collapse in history. All commerce grinds to a halt and the dollar dies along with our markets. This collapse has been engineered to take America down, and with it the other major superpowers, and it brings about the end of modern society around the globe. Now the Elite can begin anew in North America, with new laws and a new currency to replace the dollar and the Euro.

Prices soar out of control and cash is unavailable with the banks closed. Food and gasoline soon run out as supplies are not replenished and then clean water stops flowing with the loss of electricity. All emergency services cease and the politicians have deserted their country. Rule of law ends and people everywhere are fighting for their lives. America is now a place very few people were prepared for, and now many of them are regressing as well. Good and moral men are forced to live like animals in order to survive and feed their families. Stan’s military training, his cunning, and his preps are the only things that will keep him alive and safe now.

Then one day Stan must choose to save a young woman or let her be raped and murdered in cold blood. Saving her means taking her in and providing for her, while not knowing if he can even trust her. Will she be a good partner for him at the cabin, or another deady foe? In the end, he gains valuable intel about a nearby group of men who are terrorizing the region. Will this group find his cabin during their searches for food and supplies? Are there others like them out there?

The enemy could be anywhere now, and while Stan fought in many deadly campaigns and black operations, this is different. Gangs are leaving the cities in search of supplies, and foreign troops are rumored to be on American soil. Stan will need to make trusted friends and allies in order to overcome these new threats.

Sorry, but I think the author was getting paid by the word. It could have been a really good book, but some of it (mainly the emotional bs) was so drawn out it just killed the story. If I wanted a touchy-feely book I would have been looking in the romance section.

Ugh

Started out fine but then turned into cheesy sex scene after sex scene.
Couldn't finish it that's how bad it turned.

Excellent

I enjoy almost all things apocalyptic. This book was written with a lot of care and imagination. The characters were well done and the author included lots of background.

Extremely interesting and realistic narrative, pointing out just how fragile our society has become, and how easy it is for the SHTF.

Not a literally masterpiece, with lots of basic spelling mistakes, specially towards the second half. Also goes on and on about his feelings and guns, being quite repetitious when trying to make a point or justify his actions (I guess it just reads like a journal).

However as far as these post-apocalyptic books go, this one does not revel in unnecessary gore and violence.

Good read

I thought the story line was great. There were quite a few typos. I was not a fan of the foul language. This book would be a 5 star rating if not for the language and the descriptions in the bedroom events. I won't refined this book because of that. However the storyline was great!

Pretty darn good book. Characters are well developed, keeps your interest.

I liked the way he developed the book without a major disaster or attack. Since the dot.com bust and 2007 market crash this story hits home quickly and effectively, and makes sense that it could happen this way.

Good story, bad grammar grammar

The rating should not be so high because this book needed some attention paid to needed corrections. I have found this to be the case in most of the less expensive books out there. Since a good proofreading is sorely needed with most ebooks, I tend to lean more on plot and storytelling skills, which are abundant here.

No ... Just NO! .. I am seriously considering phoning Mastercard and emailing Amazon to try and get my $.99c back via a credit card chargeback. I feel as though i was somehow parted with my money under false pretences.

In nutshell to save you the pain and agony of both spending your money and then the subsequent torture of flagellating yourself whilst trying to read this alleged "book" I will endeavour to give you a brief overview.

The opening quarter of the "work" (and i use the term "work" very loosely) is pretty much a manifesto of rambling religious, tin foil hat wearing, sob story, woe is me, I was right all along, you are all idiots, did i mention God Botherers Guide in what could only be described as an extreme hard core porn preppers guide to surviving the forthcoming financial apocalypse, conspiracy theorists, wet dream ? - which also borders on garbage because of hmm let's see ... oh could it be the writing style, the story line, the characters the never ending resources and money etc. etc. etc ? ...... (and i like Dystopian Post apocalyptic fiction, sigh)

The next part is 1970's Mills and Boon style porn with a love interest half the protagonists age. ... Yeah i threw up a bit too, wait until you read it, you seriously couldn't make this stuff up. It just got repetitious, how many of the same sex scenes was the author able to squeeze in ? I gave up counting after 27. I was wondering if the main character was a rabbit who liked oral sex in a previous life ? Write Prepper fiction or write porn but do not combine the two, unless you have the skill to do so.

Last part .... I honestly cannot even be bothered........ if you really must know, spend the $0.99c and don't say that you were not given adequate warning when you come here to leave a review.

I sincerely hope that the author uses any profit from this book to hire an editor for any future projects that they may have in the pipeline and perhaps make use of a proof reader, and get some feedback from an independent publisher or even a reader, before subjecting unsuspecting bibliophiles to their own, special, unique brand of literary torture.
Personally, I would rather stab myself in the eyes with a rusty fork than subject myself to this again.

Finally dear reader, I suggest that you exercise caution, and make use of the preview function that Amazon has so thoughtfully provided for your convenience before wasting your money on this abomination of words purporting to be a readable work of dystopian fiction.

After the collapse...

Objective and realistic to the extent os what is possible for the first year after the SHTF.
The book does not focus extensively on unnecessary violence which is good. It does draw out on occasions describing guns and the main characters actions, certainly not a literary masterpiece, but extremely valid for the days we live in.
It's a great what if scenario! And are you ready?

Wonderfully written

This book is well written with so much truth interspersed within the story. It is both entertaining as well as eye opening.

A good read

This is a good read. It depicts a small group of people, torn from a civilized United States, who band together in an effort to survive in a world of armed conflict.
Even though many weapons of war are described, there isn't a lot of violence. Even sexual content is minimal.
I give it only four stars because of some redundancies.

Okay story not great.

I am not a gun person so this story did not work for me. There was way too much information regarding the difference between the various guns, bullets, etc. I know that guns are are a necessary part of most dystopian stories & I am good with that. In addition the characters are very simplistic with little to no flaws. They are either very good or very bad.

PLEASE be ready, it IS coming

I am frightened by the events depicted in this book, our once patriotic country is headed for doom. After reading this, we will continue to prepare, now at a faster rate, and pray we are wrong though the writing is on the wall.

Good story line, too much smuching!

Enjoyed the story line but found too much info on weapons and altogether too much focus on the relationship between Stan and Erica. This is an action novel not a love story.

Interesting

Pleasantly surprised. Enjoyed the book. For a non-romance dystopian book, the men were definitely amorous. I can see another book in the future. Looking forward to reading more from this author .

While at times this story was repetitive, I truly enjoyed it. The characters are almost too good to believe, but it is a work of fiction and don't we want to read about heroes.

All wet?

Started fine. But now my kindle needs to dry out. (Too much crying) First book ever that I haven't been able to finish. No kidding. Leave the love stories to women.
