She was telling him because she wanted to hide her vulnerability, and have a cushion for the morning, for when he saw her in the light of day. “It wouldn’t be anything except—”
“I get it.” He said it a little too quickly, like he expected it. Or like he was willing to say anything right now, if it meant he could have her.
She pulled back to look at him. “Okay,” she said, even as her heart leapt into her throat.
His eyes were heavy lidded and dark, his cheeks carrying a hint of flush. There was an edge to his voice when he spoke. “So how about it?”
“Yeah,” she said after a beat, after a dry swallow, after a brief but thorough pep talk with herself. “Guess I’m due a little…fun.”
His smirk was just the right side of filthy.

Book 1-- This is book 1 in the new series called The Surprising Catch by author Alexis Wilder. We are meeting new characters as well as revisiting some favorite ones from past books. This is Ashley’s book, whom we met in a previous series. Ashley has an ex-husband from hell, a self-esteem problem and is drawn to a certain man that she feels is way out of her league. She planned to spend her weekend in bed, drowning her sorrows with some delish ice cream when she and some friends are invited by Preston Alcott to a weekend of skiing and living it up at an exclusive ski resort. Reason he is inviting them is he needs a favor, he needs them there to help get some investors to really look into this lodge that Preston is buying and then redoing.
Now, it all sounds good but Ashley is trying her best to stay as far away from Preston that she can because of the incident at Cam’s wedding. It was hot and it was good but she doesn’t want to make a further fool of herself. If she only knew what Preston was thinking of her--- Preston has always been into Ashley every time he has seen her. After their kiss and small encounter at the wedding, he is determined to get things going between them but how???
Only at the lodge, once they start to spend time together, something happens that could end it..and more suspicious things.
Book 2-- Part two in this ongoing series is just getting better and better. Its suspenseful and full of sexy romance among some thrilling action. The book starts with the death of that nasty man Larry Rohan, who was found dead in a puddle of blood. There are multiple suspects and Ashley and Preston find themselves stuck there due to the bad weather until law enforcement can get to them- which means a murderer is among them, UH ROH, this doesn’t look good! (cue Scooby doo music)
Ashley turns to amateur sleuthing to figure out who did it which puts her life in danger. And while she is trying to figure out what is going on, she and Preston end up alone at one point in the story…and boy do they heat up my kindle. He sure is one sexy and seductive man. I love how he is good to Ashley and makes her see she is worth more than she thinks.
Book 3--- WOW—This was one of the most exciting in the series so far. We get to see more Preston and Ashley interaction. There is this almost fragile quality to their interactions when they aren’t sexing each other up. Ashley is afraid to let Preston in after what happened in her last relationship yet Preston at first doesn’t mind the challenge but as they continue to investigate the murder that took place—soon Preston starts to feel frustrated—there is this holding pattern emotionally but sexually OMG HOT HOT HOT but soon the roads clear up and the police arrive so the gang decide to go skiing . Ashley and Preston are on the slopes. Sadly there is an accident involving one of the main characters- will he/she make it? Who set up the accident to happen? This series is so exciting because it is full of suspense, romance, and action. Everything I look for in my romance book.
Book 4-- This is another great installment in the Alpha Billionaire In Love series-book4. In this book, we see get more Preston and Ashley than in the previous book. Oh their antics together were fantastic and earth shattering. Hot and spicy and not without angst at times.
Ashley did run into a spot of danger when Preston saved her from – He loves her but is afraid to admit it and the same goes for Ashley. She thinks that how a billionaire can love a voluptuous woman like herself. Ashley is still investigating the murder that happened in book 1 and she is getting closer to the truth when the cliffhanger happened-OMG I didn’t see that happen-- Will Preston get to her in time? Will Ashley finally have the answers and will all the answers be given . I cannot wait. This was a thrill a minute , spicy romantic read which I definitely recommend.
Book 5-- The Surprising Catch is the last book in the Alpha Billionaire in love series. This has been such an awesome series with many twists and turns, with mystery and suspense, action and of course, PASSION.
In this book, this book focuses on Preston and Ashley . Ashley’s friends keep telling her that Preston is very serious about her and isn’t jerking her around, that their relationship is very real. Ashley is hampered by her past and that is affecting her current relationship. I can tell that she loves Preston and in this book, we see Ashley struggles with telling Preston how she loves him. It takes a while before she finally burst out with her declarations of love. Preston just keeps being awesome and showing Ashley with his attention and he sort of moves in with her due to make sure she is safe.
Ashley decides to play detective and figure out who the murderer is and pays Frank a visit—wrong move. Everything goes super-fast from there because that causes a chain reaction –a life and death reaction. For Ashley and Preston, this has been a roller coaster ride from start to finish. Their love story has had many bumps and scraps in the road but they have weathered what has been thrown at them and come out on top.
I loved this story and how there were so many things going on, on top of the romance story. The ending was good- only thing I would have love more is to see where the couple was in the epilogue a few months to a year down the road but other than that, this was a fantastic ending to the series.

Catch series. I received the book as an ARC member in return for an honest review. I enjoyed this book. Ashley learns more about herself through the weekend at the ski resort. She wants to help solve the murder and she wants to get close to Preston. Preston has wanted Ashley for a long time and now is his chance to get her alone and close. Through an accident at the resort and a stalker at Ashley's apartment, they have bonded. Preston has become Ashley's hero.

Great book.
The book was great but a little disappointed when I got to the end and the preview was for a book I should have read before. Please read stubborn suitor before this one. I think their may also be a third book.

Alexa never gives a disappointing series...I am always amazed each and every time but my personal opinion?? Suprising Catch was by far the best series of hers to date.
This set focuses on a love the blossoms between two very different people.
Preston Alcott is a sexy billionaire who is trying to open up a Ski Resort. He has always been a wealthy playboy who has never had a woman to tell him NO. He is as alpha as they get but one woman keeps turning him down ....WHY???
Ashley Woodsen is a nurse who has just gotten out of a bad marriage. Her ex husband mentally abused her with always putting her down making her doubt herself..giving her self esteem issues. Ashley thought her husband was everything to her til she got the shock of her life when he walked out for a thinner, slimmer version of her.. Those hurtful words have stuck with Ashley making her doubt everything about herself especially her beauty. She is living her life the best way she knows how but she can't figure out why her heart flutters and stills every time someone mentions....him??? Ashely attends her friends wedding over the span of a few weeks giving her sights on him... Preston.
Preston sees something in Ashley and tries to show her but she keeps putting up those walls. They have a couple intense moments at their friends weddings but still Ashley pulls away.
Preston sets up an event at his up and coming ski resort for its grand opening for his friends and makes sure Ashley gets one of the first invites. He vows he will make her see during this time what they could have. He wants Ashley and what Preston wants.... Preston gets.
Preston greets Ash and their friends...welcoming them to the resort. He gets them all set up with rooms and they make plans for dinner later on after everyone, including investors, arrive. After dinner everything changes and things get crazy. Things, that night, get extremely strange...setting off events that has everyone questioning everything. That night also changes things with Ashley and Preston in a whole different light. Ash ends up having to stay in Preston's room due to space and Preston takes complete advantage of the moment. He puts every effort out there to show Ash that she is beautiful and that he simply can't get enough of her. Ashley throws up walls and as Preston continues his pursuit to whoooing her and the mystery continues to unfold in the remaining part of the house Ashley and Preston begin to get closer..relying on each other in more ways than one. Things get spicy with these two. Things get crazy in the resort. Ashley tries Preston's patience (with her need to solve the mystery going on) but through this Preston sees things in Ashley that he didn't realize. He notices everything about her. Over the span of the next books they continue trying to figure out what's going on between them as well as trying to figure out what the crap is going on with the murder..Ashley is determined to figure it out. She simply can't stop from trying to solve it even though Preston tells her to leave it to the police so he stands by Ash. This series was beyond thrilling. It has so much packed into the set... passion, trust, mystery, lust, sexy as he** moments, sweet tender loving moments, selflessness, courage, and a wall that gets broke making Ashley finally see she is beautiful and special. I loved Preston and his determination to shut all those negative thoughts going through Ashley's head and loved how he never gave up pushing her.
Alexa always gives us storylines that have tons of emotion in them making the books leave lasting impressions in their quake.

The Surprising Catch-Complete Series by Alexa Wilder was a surprise. The main characters are Ashley, who has self esteem issues thanks to her ex husband who can’t appreciate a woman of substance and Preston, a fabulously wealthy man. Preston is definitely interested in Ashley but she is afraid of getting hurt. He is trying to give her space but still keep her in his orbit. He invites her and their friends to a resort that he is attempting to obtain investors. Preston’s plans are to obtain the financing required to finish the resort and “obtain” Ashley.
The book brings back characters of other books namely Cami and Drew and Maggie and Declan, which is always nice to see how their relationships are progressing. But the subplot of this series is headed in a different direction. Sure the prior stories had conflict but not murder. Yes, I said murder, murder of a sleazy man, who had been hitting on Ashley and to top it off they are snowed in at the resort!
In the next installment, Ashley tries her amateur sleuthing to determine who could have killed Larry. Someone tries to stage it as a suicide but Ashley as a nurse knows better. Now throw in her feelings for Preston and her hang up about her body, she has a lot going on. With all that is going on Ashley finally begins to overcome her fears and trust Preston. The chemistry between the two is starting to really heat up.
However, overnight the snow has gotten worst and it looks like the police won’t be able to get there. On top of that the body has been moved. So no dead body, no police and snowed in with a killer. Does it get any scarier than that? Does anyone notice that she is trying to determine what happened? Is Ashley in danger?
In the third book Preston and Ashley becomes closer, even though she still has reservations and concerns. Ashley is still not confident with her sexually and her appearance due to the mental abuse of her ex-husband. Preston continues to pursue Ashley in hopes that she will understand his feelings. In addition, there is still a killer on the loose. At the end of book three, the killer is identified and they are reunited with Cami, Drew, Maggie and Declan to continue their skiing mini vacation. Even though Ashley is not a skier, she goes down a hill and the book ends with her losing her balance and tumbles down the slope.
In Book Four, Preston is the one who doesn’t give up and rescues Ashley from her ill fated skiing accident. Preston continues to lay siege to Ashley’s heart. As they get closer Ashley begins to let down the walls she has surrounded her heart. As Ashley tries to let down her guard and accept Preston, her detective instincts are on the murder that took place at Preston’s resort. When they return home and Ashley goes to her place, Book Four ends with someone in her house. Talk about a cliffhanger.
In the final book, Preston has become the onsite bodyguard for Ashley and their relationship grows stronger as Ashley begins to drop the barriers that she has erected and their love begins to build. However, when she isn’t with him, doubts begin to creep in and she has time on her hands to again wonder about the murder. With her investigating her suspicions, it is only time before someone notices and it isn’t the good guy. Is Preston able to save the day again and will they get their happily ever after?

The Surprising Catch was a very pleasant surprise. It is the story of wealthy playboy, Preston who has been crazy about Ashley since he saw her in the ER where she works. He invites mutual friends and Ashley to a resort when a blizzard blows up and murder and mayhem ensues. We see the beginning of Ashley letting she guard down and may be falling for Preston. But love can be a rocky boat, and something tells me Preston and Ashley are in for rough waters. Snowed in after a murder in the resort and Larry's body is missing. If one of the guests didn't do it, then who did and where is the dead body? On top of that Preston and Ashley are dancing around their attraction to each other, actually Ashley more than Preston, and slowly but surely we Ashley is coming around, gradually losing her heart to Preston. Ashley digs deeper and deeper and uncovers secrets that could put her in danger.
Great story with a plot that has enough twists in it to keep you guessing.

Ashley agrees to go on vacation with her wealthy friends, hosted by Preston, the alpha billionaire businessman who wants to find investors for a skiing property that he wants to renovate. His ulterior motive is to convince Ashley of his feelings for her... he's totally smitten and in love. Unfortunately Ashley is super skittish after a nasty divorce leaves her feeling insecure and wary.
As if that's not enough, they're stranded at this property during a snow storm during which a murder takes place. Ashley does her best Cagney and Lacey impression and tries to sleuth out the murderer, all the while Preston seduces her.
I found Ashley's friends a bit obnoxious and the murder mystery kinda disappointing since it didn't get resolved until the end of the book.
Ashley never truly gets over her anxiety and that's disappointing too. Preston clearly loves her; what more did that dude have to do? There's an HEA at least.

This boxed set is great! I loved both Preston and Ashley. His alpha sophistication and her sweet disposition may be good for each other. Their first few meetings didn't end very well but I hoped to see a future for them. Ashley was compelled to investigate the murder which occurred while they were snowed in at the lodge. Her efforts found her in danger and needing to be rescued.
The romance between Preston and Ashley as well as the intrigue caused by a murder after Preston's event were intertwined and I was hoping for a HEA for this very likeable couple. The story is well written as a serial that keeps you wanting to read to the end!

We finally get Preston and Ashley's story! I love this series, Preston has the hots for Ashley and has had them for a long time, but Ashley needs time. Ashley, divorced for a year from an ex husband who verbally bashed her and gave her several complexes. She doesn't completely trust that Preston really likes her even though he has shown gentlemanly actions throughout. Preston on the other hand is waiting patiently for Ashley to come around to see his side of things and pushes her along with just the right tempo. Put in the mix a murder mystery! This was definitely an enjoyable read and it was great to have the old characters from previous books come into the mix.

This was not my favorite Alexa Wilder series. Books 1, 2 and 3 drove me crazy with Ashley’s issues. I rolled my eyes a few times. I loved that Ashley was a “curvy” girl. God love Preston for hanging in there! I totally adored Preston! Definite chemistry between the two. I liked seeing characters from previous books. Larry was a total jerk. The sisters were entertaining.
I loved books 4 and 5! Ashley got her act together and the murder is solved. The murder mystery had a real twist to it that I didn’t see coming.
It is worth the read!

Omg...
So happy to see this series out as a box set. Reading it straight thru with no waiting was awesome. This story puts Ashley and Preston through lots of twists and turns, and kept me on the edge of my seat as I went through each section. Things would be going well, and BAM something rocks the cart. Great read !

Good Read
I love the other two series of Alexa Wilder but this one didn't pull me in like the others. I did enjoy the romance and suspense of these books, it didn't hold my attention the way the other two books did.

Started this book yesterday and finished it this morning. Yep! I stayed up real late. Couldn't put it down, but it was worth being tired today!!!! lol,

This is a book that could have been great, but fell a little short. The thing that bothered me the most was the double focus, we had on one side the love story between Ashley, a girl with a very damaged self-esteem and Preston, a rich playboy, on the other side, a murder mystery. The story went from one to the other with no real focus. This book was a collection of five books, and if I hadn't read them as part of a collection, I would have a couple of books of relationship drama, and a couple of murder mystery, I'm not even sure if that would have worked well. But other than that, there was something about the characters that I wasn't sure about. Preston was very nice, and sweet, and I get that Ashley was afraid after her ex husband destroyed her self-esteem, but she was a little annoying at times.
This is a book I don't think I would recommend, it's only worth to read it if you already read the other books in the series and don't want to miss it.
