Eight Second Ride #1

Più forte di tutto

Rate this book

No rating -- DNF @ 1%. Actually it was in the second paragraph. I'm sorry, but when there's a glaring grammatical error anywhere on the first page of a novel, it's only a sign of worse to come. Sloppy. No excuse for it.

This wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It felt like the author was having the guys talk like she thought a couple of rough and tumble rodeo guys would talk, but then every once in a while, she would slip up, and they would sound way too "proper", IMO. Then there was the typing the guy hands over his head, who'd recently dislocated his shoulder, and needed surgery to fix it properly.

I also didn't like how Curt would lecture Levi on being out and proud with who he was in one breath, and then in the next be thinking about how he and Levi would have to be very discreet because guys on the circuit wouldn't like it. Hypocrite, much?

blog: The time of my life

BLURB:
Meet two champion bull riders--macho, muscled Marlboro Men, confident, cocksure cowboys--from their struggle for survival in the rodeo arena, and 8 seconds of fame on the back of a 2000 lb bull to their most private encounters behind closed doors where their world is about to explode…

Levi Bond is a seasoned pro, competing for the World Championship. Bull riding is what gets his adrenaline pumping, his heart racing, and makes him feel like a million bucks. That, and the idea of getting it on with Curt Walsh, one of the up and coming stars of the bull riding circuit. Powerfully attracted, Curt’s confused and unsure which way he wants his life to go. Will Levi still be around, available and interested when the final decision is made?

Get set for a wild ride in this cowboy romance, sizzling with intense desire, unbridled passion, and unexpected emotion as Levi and Curt, drawn together like mega magnets, battle not only life threatening, white knuckled action in the arena, but cruelty and bias outside it. The prospect of falling in love is as terrifying as staying on the bull without it killing them!

Well, lets see. First off I ABSOLUTELY love BULL RIDERS. This being Male/Male put the icing on the cake for me. Levi Bond is one hot cowboy. Walking around the arena is Curt Walsh. He is also one hot cowboy. They are both macho men but who doesn't love that. Bull riding is one of the toughest sports and competitions out there. Sandy wrote what truly happens on the circuit to a tee. She really did her research & explained what each rider goes through on a daily basis. Yes, this book is fiction but a lot of it is fact. It really is all about that 8 seconds that feels like a lifetime to a bull rider. Having the struggles of being gay on the circuit is something Levi & Curt had to deal with. I believe that Sandy wrote a great story of these two sexy men. One of my favorite lines was that Levi thought of Curt as the Marlboro Man. FYI, when I was little that was the man I secretly wanted to marry. So that was a special to me.

Every bull rider lives for the adrenaline rush of getting on that 2000 pound bull! The excitement is what drives me to love the book. It was constantly a page turner. The only part that I didn't like was the book ended. I wanted more & more. Never wanted it to end. I was actually sad when i turned to the last page. I hope to see Levi & Curt cross over in other books in this series. I don't think their story is done. Least I hope it isn't. I do expect to see more bull riding books to come in the future for this author. I think she did an amazing job & this could be a great new series for her.

Not to give away anything at all. Wait to you find out what the bull's name is for championship ride.

Wow! I am blown away with this book! Falling Hard by Sandy Sullivan is a sizzling m/m romance that is sure to melt your heart. This is the first book of the Eight Second Ride series and if it's any indication of what's to come Sandy has a fan for life. I've been around the bull riding community for most of my early twenties and was really a bit suspicious of how Ms. Sullivan could pull off this particular love story in a setting known for manly men who can often be set in their ways and stubborn. After reading the story of Levi and Curt I think she did an amazing job! She detailed the fear that plagued these characters when "coming out" was discussed and the ignorance they faced from some of the riders. Although, I loved that they were mostly accepted and supported I have my doubts of how realistic that actually is at this time.

Levi Bond is at the top of his career and good thing since he's nearing the end of it, as well. He's one of the lucky ones. He has a profitable ranch and good people to keep it running well in his absence. He wants nothing more than to win the title and settle down with the man of his dreams and raise a family of his own. He has no illusions that living the life of a gay man in a small town will be smooth sailing, but most everyone he loves and respects already knows and supports his choices. Now, if he can just find that man of his dreams. Fellow bull-rider and friend Curt is what his heart wants, but he's not even sure Curt is gay.

Curt Walsh lives his life on his own terms. He's never felt loved or wanted by his family, so the nomadic life of a bullrider suits him just fine. He seldom lacks for companionship on the road. He can pretty much have his pick of a different girl every night. Except he's bi-sexual and lately his desires have been pulling him towards Levi. Levi makes him feel and want things that he's never wanted in his life. No one has ever made him consider anything permanent or even to choose one gender over the other. But, there is just something different about how Levi makes him feel in and out of the bedroom.

When this couple comes together sparks fly. You can feel the connection and the attraction right through your Kindle. It's not all sex, either. Although, don't get me wrong that part is HOT!!! But, they truly have this undeniable passion and respect for each other that just resonates to the very heart of you. I can not wait to read what else this series has to offer.

I received this book to beta read from the author.

I have read a ton of Sandy's book and have enjoyed them all. However, I have to say, this book is my favorite of all. I love the story she created with Curt and Levi. I loved the fact we got to see this couple form a solid friendship while also developing a lasting love. I cannot wait for more from this series and to see where Curt and Levi go because at the end there will still one big lingering questions!!!

Levi is a very well respected bull rider. He is the older guy on the circuit that is kinda the "good guy". He will help out anyone that needs it. He is also a loner and known to be gay on the circuit. He is ok with that but also doesnt flaunt his sexuality in the faces of the guys who DONT approve with his lifestyle choices. Levi has watched from afar Curt. Curt is fun and easy going BUT he likes the ladies....or does he???

Curt had heard that Levi is into guys but wasnt sure. Soooo whats a guy do when he is interested? He asks to room with Levi. He figures , if he is GAY then he is super close to get to "knowing" him better!!

The guys really get to know each other while they are also "getting to know each other". Levi is so strong but loves that Curt is super alpha. Curt who loves to take charge loves allowing this other man to sometimes spin on him and take over. The jealousy they each have over the other one having someone else liking them was great. I loved seeing them both get angry and claiming the other man....plus its super hawt right???

Levi is very shy and about his relationship with Curt. He doesnt want to rock the boat or upset anyone. Curt on the other hand could care less about what people think about him and his lifestyle except when it comes to his parents. But Levi wants permanant and Curt isnt sure he cant settle down with a guy since he also enjoys the ladies as well.

Their love story is wound through them riding the bull circuit and loving each other hard. When Levi asks for more Curt cant seem to make a decision. Then there is an accident and the men realize that they could lose it all with one bad ride. Decisions are made and choices are told......This falling in love stuff is really hard on everyone no matter who you choose to love.

I'm not sure how to rate this book. I love cowboys, especially ones that fall in love with each other. The bull riding details were really good so one extra star just for that. The writing wasn't bad. The editing could have been better but it wasn't off-putting for the most part. The book wasn't boring and held my attention. The tension and sex were hot. I liked both the MCs, and the side characters were good and I can see where the series will take us. Now what bugged me.

Levi had an injury that I know is extremely painful and can take months to heal. He said himself that he needed surgery to correct it. Yet he was able to continue bull riding and even Then Levi overheard Curt talking to someone named Missy that later was referred to as Carolyn. Again, editing. Curt's issues with his parents were glossed over. The last 20% of the book felt rushed to me. It was like, "I love you", "I love you too" ok time to end the book.

So it wasn't bad and it wasn't great. I will continue with the series because I love that bull riding stuff.

I love me some hot and sexy cowboys and boy Levi and Curt did not disappoint! Those two were smokin' and I loved every minute of their story! I could have kept reading about them, they were just that good.

This is a m/m romance and they were just too darn cute.

What a great storyline, the characters were great, their dialogue was wonderful and the descriptions to detail were well written. The sex was hot! The romance sweet! This had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what would be happening next. The story flowed really well and was very entertaining I was so happy to see their HEA. This read just made me happy. No tears, no heart twinge moments but lots of Aaaahhhh's and smiles throughout this book.

All in all, a super great read.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely!

Would I read more from this author? Absolutely!

First off let me just say, Levi and Curt are hot! Okay now that I got that out of my system, I am definitely a new fan of this series and can’t wait for book two. If you like a cowboy romance that has it all then you’ll love this book. The characters are tied to the Bull riding circuit so tight it becomes a personality trait through-out the book. This author seems to know her stuff when it comes to Bull-riding and does a wonderful job with this setting, making it seem like a character all unto itself. The characters were almost an extension of this environment rather than the other way around. This was a refreshing change and I felt like I learned something about what being a cowboy truly means by the end of the book. Minus a few grammatical errors, this book was a solid and enjoyable reading experience.

Really good story of two bull riders chasing the same title! All of that part of the story was well done.
Levi and Curt has their eyes on each other but the pro arena isn't very accepting of gay men. They do make it work as they fall in love. Off to read the next one in this series!

Meh. Far too repetitive dialogue and internal drama and monologue. I got bored. And the ending of Curt realizing that his parents weren't jerks and that he was the asshole didn't seem real.

Eight second ride -- took far too long.

I was not impressed.

Slick's review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

So I wasn’t sure what to expect from Sandy Sullivan’s Falling Hard knowing that it was a M/M story about bull riders and knowing that can be a tough occupation in a group not known for its acceptance of gay members. I was pleasantly surprised by this book; not only with the way the subject was handled but also in the intensity of the love story that developed. Bull riding men proving while 8 seconds may be all it takes on a bull to be successful in life, in love it takes much more time and it is important to make every second count.

Levi Bond is sitting high on the leader board with a chance to take a national title something he’d like nothing more to accomplish as he is nearing the end of his very successful career. He’s ready to leave the road behind and find a partner to share his bed, his life, and his ranch even knowing it will be difficult in the small town where he and his family reside. He’s had his eye on fellow bull rider Curt Walsh for some time now but he’s not sure if he’d be interested. He seen Curt with his share of women but he’s also noticed some flirtatious glances a time or two and he’s not sure he wants to ruin a good friendship by making the wrong move. While out at home and on his ranch, his sexuality isn’t widely known around the circuit.
Curt Walsh has had his eye on Levi for awhile and while he’s heard rumors that he’s gay it isn’t a conversation they’ve ever had and he’s pretty sure no one knows he is bi-sexual as he flaunts his love of women every chance he gets but sometimes he needs a man and the man he wants is Levi.
Once these two figure out they want each other they move at the speed of sound into a physical relationship and I’ll warn you know they are combustible together. There is a lot and I do mean a lot of M/M sexy times in this book but along the way they share a great deal about their lives, what they want in the future, and really come to know and respect each other. That’s not to say there aren’t some issues; Levi worries that he won’t be enough for Curt as he is bi-sexual, Curt isn’t out to his family or anyone and he struggles with how to tell them, together they worry about being found out on the circuit and what the future will hold for them. Most of all they struggle with their growing feelings for one another and how to handle them.

In Falling Hard author Sandy Sullivan has done a wonderful job of integrating gay men into the world of profession bull riding. She didn’t shy away from the worry and the prejudices but she did allow these men to find a way to make it work for them. Extremely sexy, completely entertaining, and a joy to read I can’t wait to see what happens next in this new series.

I wasn't sure what to expect from reading this book as I knew it was Ms. Sullivan's first MM book. I must admit I was really surprised and not once disappointed. This book is about two hot hot bull riders trying to win on the tough circuit. Seriously, everyone who does not love some real tough cowboys!!

Levi is a bull rider who is just trying to avoid a serious injury and make it to the bull riding championship. He's been battling a bad shoulder for a while and he doesn't need it to give out now. He also just who he is...a gay man in a tough career where his sexuality isn't always accepted so he keeps a low profile on the road.

Curt is a little younger man with a promising career ahead of him. He has kinda heard that Levi may be "gay" but he isn't quite sure. Curt is the confident man who just doesn't care what everyone really thinks about him. He considers himself bi-sexual and what better way to find out if he prefers one to the other than try and get to know Levi a little better.

After the two men start rooming together on the road to help with expensives the chemistry between them becomes intoxicating. Levi is falling hard fast for Curt and Curt is struggling with committing to a monogamous full time realationship. When Levi gives him a time limit to commit or move on, Curt is forced to discover just what he wants.

What I loved about this story is that the two men develop a strong friendship on their journey to love. The dynamics between the men were fabulous. The sex scenes were steaming hot. I felt like Ms. Sullivan told a fantastic story with two sizzling hot men. I will admit at times I felt like it was lacking emotional depth in the characters but it was nothing that was a deal breaker for me. I loved the secondary characters in the story and am anxious for some of their stories. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I

It’s not easy being gay on the bull riding circuit. Levi Bond is. He knows others talk about him because he doesn’t make a big show of messing around with women and he doesn’t always hang out with the guys opting to go to a gay bar for an occasional hookup but he doesn’t broadcast or acknowledge the rumors. He has a big crush on a younger bull-rider Curt.
Curt is bi-sexual and lately he has been wanting a man. One man in particular. He sets his sights on Levi to see if the rumors are true and makes Levi an offer that is hard to refuse.(yes the pun was intended).
This is a very hot and sexy story of the bull riders on the rodeo circuit. I like the grittiness and how the men sound like men even at though at times a bit vulgar. Hey its bull riders and cowboys I don’t expect frilly girl talk. The storyline is quite good, the characters are really good. I loved the differences in both Levi and Curt yet how they fit together so well and both Alpha males yet their relationship roles blend well. I also liked it wasn’t love at first sight and their relationship built throughout the story.

The only issue I had was that Curt being bisexual and he made a point here and there stating or thinking he wasn’t sure he wanted or would be able to not want a woman then all of a sudden it was. I can’t wait to see whose story is next in this series!

If you like bull riders, friends to lovers, tough alpha males, and lots of rough, rugged hot man-sex this is definitely for you.

I read a lot of books. I've had a run of read-for-review books that, while they have been good, they have also been nice. I asked for something down and dirty and I was not disappointed!

Levi and Curt are bullriders. Chasing the same title, and the same 8 seconds of fame. Levi has lusted over Curt for months, but he wasn't sure about Curt. Until Curt came out right and said he wanted Levi, and he wanted him bad.

Finding themselves in a let-see-where-this-goes-sort of thing, Levi and Curt work hard, play hard and fall hard.

There is just one thing stopping this getting 5 stars and one thing only.

Repetition.

It told me many times that the bulls were 2000lb animals. Just the once or maybe even twice would have sufficed, but it came almost every time Levi got on a bull to ride. AND Curt told Levi to "paint his stomach and abs" **I'll let you figure out with what he wanted him to paint the abs!** more than once. So, nope, its not needed lots of times, just think of something else!

Hot and sweaty, down and dirty, some sexy bullriders and some major misunderstandings on Curt's part, made this a good read, it didn't seem like 200 odd pages.

This is the first in this series, Eight Second Ride, so I'll be looking to find out if the next one is Levi and Curt again, or different people, or M/M or M/F, I don't care. I'd like to catch up with these bullriders again!

4 stars

Well, I finished it, so the story had some merit, but not much. It needed a through editing because the mistakes and continuity issues totally killed the story for me, throwing me out of the text time and time again. The sex was rote and uninspired, as was the dialogue, and how many times can these guys think the same thing? Sheez. Curt kept talking about letting Levi have his ass, but it took about 5 sex scenes for him to allow it, and then the author didn't even give Levi his topping scene, just a fade to black. Poor guy.

The good parts were the descriptions of bull riding, although even those were bare bones. At least the terminology was correct.

All in all, it was like watching two teenagers going at it.

M/M is a new genre for me, but Falling Hard is definitely a great place to start.

The characters are loveable, loyal and sexy as hell too!!

Ms Sullivan leads readers through the difficulties faced by fear of exposure and the bigotry of ignorance in everyday life.

One man proud of who he is, but concerned that his high profile career has no tolerance for his alternate lifestyle; another unsure where his true feelings lie, yet prepared to thumb his nose at anyone who ridicules his lover.

This is a powerful story of the beauty of love and commitment, but the reality of the heartbreak that un-acceptance can entail.

This was my first time ready a book by this author. I really enjoyed it. There was great chemistry between the mc's and not a ton of needless drama.

My only complaint is that the ending seemed abrupt. All the roadblocks and issues suddenly melted away in the last few pages of the book. The ending just didn't flow to me. I do hope she writes more about these characters in the next book of the series.

Sandy Sullivan writes sexy reads. That being said I was a little overwhelmed (as were our heroes Levi and Curt) by the amount of sex at the beginning of this book. It was like they were hitting it whenever they weren’t eating, sleeping, driving or riding a bull. However, just as I was getting ready to give up they started talking and the story grew legs and carried me away. This is a fun cowboy story with a whole lotta hot cowboy on cowboy loving.

This was a nice and easy love story. It kept a steady pace and there was a enough character development that I could grasp who the lead males were and their motivations. I wish part 2 was on audio as well. the only thing that distracted from the story for me was the narrator's voice. the characters came across much older than I think they were in the story so while these were supposed to be twenty thirty something men I kept picturing men in their sixties and seventies

It was a good read.
It didn't look into the problems of being gay bull riders. It almost glossed over it as one of the characters hid it and the other mainly advertised his bi side.
The ending seemed rushed and didn't flow for me.
I am going to look out for the next in the series as I think it could be okay.

"Nothing different except fall in love."

What's hotter than 2 sexy bull riders? Two amazing men falling for each other and neither one is ready to admit to it! Curt and Levi ride hard in the arena and the bedroom as they discover their true feelings and desires for each other.

Sandy Sullivan does amazing with this beginning to a new series. I can't wait for more!

Great story

My first bull riding story and I love it, Curt is a force all his own. He decided that Levi would be his and he got him. Even if he was not looking for a long term relationship, there was no way he let someone else have Levi. Levi is just so damn sweet until you push the wrong button with him.

The story was super sweet and cute but the writing style lost points with me. As a couple I loved them and Im very very happy they got their happy ever after. Possibly a little to cheesy but I do love that cheese.

3.5 stars....overall it was a pretty good book but the writing was a bit choppy...i liked the story and the MC's...it was just lacking a bit of "feeling"...not quite sure how to explain it...I will definitely try this author again.

Do not by this book

Even if it's free. World building is horrible, dialogue stilted and ridiculous. Sex boring, sex talk cringe worthy.
, and you could care less about the characters.
