Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest with my wife Denise, a Border Collie named Aoife, a guitar collection, and an increasing number of aquariums sporting a variety of fish (cichlids are my new favorites), I live for football season when I can cheer on the Oregon Ducks and be disappointed by my Seattle Seahawks once again. I am a fan of Cookie Monster, KISS, and Dr. Who (along with most things British).

As a person who always dreamed of writing as well as one completely enthralled by all things zombie, it is hard to believe that I never once considered writing in the genre. It is true. I wanted to be more “mainstream”. The first novel I actually wrote is titled Dakota (as Todd Brown). It is about a pair of DEA types tossed back in time to just prior to the start of the Civil War. They are in Charleston, South Carolina, and one of them is an African-American.

The zombie thing really started when I wrote a short for a college Creative Writing class. The teacher, Ms. Bose, pulled me up and told me I had an obvious love for the subject and a real talent for the style. I decided to give it a shot.

The first thing I cobbled together was Zomblog. I wrote it as a warm up for the project I had brewing in the back of my mind. It is a journal account of the apocalypse. The funny thing is that it was never intended to be published. A few things happened and it ended up being presented to me as a gift in book format by my wife for a Christmas present. There was something I will never forget about holding the copy of that book in my hand the first time.
Because it gained a readership, and those readers asked for more, I made it a trilogy (Zomblog, Zomblog II, and Zomblog: The Final Entry). It is also because of those fans that I have returned to the Zomblog universe and just released the sixth (and FINAL) book in the series on Halloween of 2013: Zomblog: Snoe's Journey. I freely admit that I will sellout my plans to write what the fans ask for.

I really want my DEAD series to be what I am known for, and in the last year, it has really taken off. However, I will say that with the release of the fourth book in the DEAD series (DEAD: Winter), the numbers started to pick up beyond my wildest dreams.

The DEAD series (DEAD: The Ugly Beginning, DEAD: Revelations, and DEAD: Fortunes & Failures, DEAD: Winter, DEAD: Siege & Survival, DEAD: Confrontation, DEAD: Reborn) is scheduled to be a 12 part epic series.

It is told in three rotating chapters. One is from the first person perspective of Steve Hobart, a man thrust into the role of leader for a group of survivors struggling to keep alive. One chapter follows a group of four self-professed zombie “geeks” who initially believe that the zombie apocalypse would be fun and soon discover that it is nothing like the movies. The third of the rotating chapters is called “Vignettes” and is a series of snapshots from all around the world. Some of the vignettes are single chapter episodes, others are continuing threads that carry on for several chapters. A few are merged into the Steve story or the Geek story line.

Last year,I began my horror/comedy series, "That Ghoul Ava" and have found it to be my new guilty pleasure.

'Dead- Liberty, South Carolina' is a Snapshot novel, a spin-off from author TW Brown's epic 'Dead' series. Liberty is a small, insular community of 3500 and 'Dead-Liberty' tells the story of the zombie apocalypse from the POV of its citizens. From the beginning of the outbreak, when most people are unable to wrap their minds around what's happening, to the end of the novel, where the citizens of Liberty are faced with an impossible choice, Brown shows the reader how normal, everyday people face the unimaginable. Will the townsfolk come together and rally around one another or will they develop an every-man-for-himself mentality?

A reader familiar with Brown's series will recognize certain features in 'Liberty' right away- the black tracers in the eyes that are always the first sign of infection; the sense of self-preservation possessed by the zombies that were children when they turned; and the appalling criminality and lack of humanity displayed by so many people as soon as society breaks down. But 'Liberty' is a stand-alone novel- a person who's never read the series is able to fully understand and enjoy it.

Brown's books capture the reader's attention from the very first page and then never let go, and 'Liberty' is no different. It's fast pace almost leaves you breathless and there's plenty of blood and gore. The descriptions of the zombies are so detailed in regards to their wounds and all-around gruesomeness that there are times I was surprised I didn't gag. The characters are three-dimesnsional and life-like- some you love, some you hate; some are epic heroes and some are unbearable cowards; they make good decisions and they make some that are tragically bad- just like real life.

I've read hundreds of books in the zompocalypse genre; in my opinion, Brown is the best author writing in that field. I was dejected when I got to the end of the 'Dead' and 'Zomblog' series, so to me, the Snapshots are wonderful opportunities to jump back into a world I love. I hope Brown keeps them coming.

Couldn't put it down

I read this fast paced book, well fast. This was a really good story. The author, who is a favorite of mine, grabbed you right from the beginning. His works always amaze me how he can come at the same basic situations, ( zombies), and still be so original! I don't think I'm giving anything away about the book by saying that he has shown us that not all horror fiction has stupid ppl running around clueless. I like that. I hate when a story drags with ppl in denial of their situation. If you like great storytelling, tales of survival, and zombies, you have to read this book! It doesn't disappoint. Great author!! A Must read!

Oh. Em. Gee!
This was such fun to read! I am a Pickens County, S.C. native, so it was great to envision all the places described throughout the book.
The only problems I had was with the description of Cannon Hospital (it's not nearly as big or sophisticated as told in the book). And, second is also concerning the hospital: the apartment complex from which the group of folks watched the hospital - nope. Couldn't have happened. Not the right angle, and there are the hills and woods in the way.
I was able to get past all this, though, and chalk it up to "literary license. " But, something tells me Mr. Brown didn't do quite enough research about the county seat.
Ok. That being said. What fun to read! Even if I was a stranger to Liberty, I would have enjoyed this. I loved that most of the named characters had his or her own story going on. And even with that, it wasn't at all difficult to keep up with everything going on.
That ending, though. Ughhhh! LoL
I did NOT expect that!

I only recently found this series and started off by reading Dead: Perspectives Vol 1 and on loving that, I got this one. This is just as good as the other series and I devoured this in just over a day!

This follows the story of not just one person, not even a few, but of a full community from Liberty, South Carolina. We get to see what a full town of people will do when the dead start rising. Can they come together and save their community?

It's hard to say much about the plot of this as there really is a lot going on and there are so many different characters that I may spoil something. I will say that it is a fast paced, intense, action packed and entertaining read. The characters were all well written and developed and easy to like and I found myself becoming invested in their stories. Even with there being so many different characters, the plot flowed nicely and I never found myself confused as to who was taking at any given time.

In all, this was a great addition to the DEAD world. I always love finding a great Zombie book that focuses on one group of survivours as apposed to a whole lot of different groups. I feel that it's easier to become invested in their stories. I look forward to listening to more in this series.

Pamela Lorence did a great job with the narration. With so many characters, it's often hard for a narrator to keep the story flowing, but this narrators has no problems. She gave each character their own personality!

I received a free copy of this but voluntarily reviewed it. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Did I miss the zombies?

This book could be about the beginning of the zombie apocalypse or just about racism. The apocalypse wasnt mentioned anywhere in the book though. I've read all of this authors other books in his dead series and they are really good. This one has just left me confused

Since I live in Pickens County, I finally had a zombie book about areas I know and love. Mr. BROWN does a commendable job in describing the area. There were some obvious errors, such as the misspelling of "Sheriff" which caused him not to catch the change between from Sheriff to Chief early in the book. The writing was good and the action well paced, although there needed to be more descriptions of the tasks being performed. Some of the better characters were killed off too early and too often. Once you got to like someone, they were dead. All in all, I enjoyed the book and will recommend to others who live in this area.

In this snapshot, we find the quiet town of Liberty, South Carolina being infested with undead. No explanation of why or where they came from, they just are. There are hints that something drastic has happened somewhere; a boom and a flash of light, the U.S. lost communications with the entire Asian continent, and the Emergency Broadcasting Service has come onto the air waves. The encounters with undead continue. The young mayor is at a loss for what to do. Many people are in denial of what their eyes show them. Liberty, South Carolina is under siege. Decent story, lots of action, good characters. I was not impressed with the narrator. Pamela Lorence was not able to deliver the tension and horror that the story demanded. A different narrator would have improved the experience and rating. Three.point.five for the effort. It's very rare to find zombie books with female narrators, so I jumped at the book when I found it. I enjoyed the narrator's natural voice very much. She also has excellent character voices. A few examples would include the gasping private from early in the book and johnathan's elderly mom.

As for the story, it has some gruesome descriptions (intestines falling out the gut comes to mind), but nothing too indecent. Personally, I prefer stories that focus on 1-2 characters. This story follows pretty much everyone from the town. Unlike some books, it was easy enough to follow and track each one individually. The focus is less on the zombies and more on people working together (and not working together).

DEAD: Snapshot--Liberty, South Carolina
: TW Brown

This fast paced book takes the listeners from the beginning of the zombie Apocalypse to the full on siege. The small town of Liberty, South Carolina bands together to try and survive. So sad and scary at the same time. I hadn't discovered this author until this book caught my attention. I'll be looking for more.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Pamela Lorence did a fine job of narrating this book.

Wow!

Minor spoiler: This is the bleakest ending of any of Mr. Browns zombie novels, but having said that I really cared for most of the characters you're supposed to care for, & really hate the ones you're supposed to despise, if I can say one bad thing, his books are never long enough, I'd love for them to be 500+ pages.

This was a great little zombie tale. Brown built up the characters in a short amount of time, and maybe it's because I'm also from a small town, but I felt *really* connected to them. The ending was sudden and abrupt, and the way it ended bothered me. I almost wanted to mark that as a negative, but I can't. It was a new, but plausible, ending to a tale in the world of The Dead.
