This is Christine's debut novel, and wow it's good. Now I would recommend if you have any triggers to sadism or sexual violence, that the reading of this book may not be for you, as it is very dark and definitely not a fairytale by any means.
The story is erotic, dark, gut wrenching, and very gritty. The characters come to life and you identify with them. Miranda is our leading lady, and we first see her desperate, broken, haunted and pleading for help from our leading man Val Knight the King of Bound & Bare, a club of his making, where his rules apply to all who chose to play and work there.
Val is dark and menacing, events in his past have made him this way, because of them he has to have control, over everything, and no-one may touch him. He puts out this cold, unfeeling persona, and he is seething with barely contained anger and violence. Till she arrives, Miranda challenges his control, inadvertently touching him, which ignites a fire in his soul, but to allow her closer endangers her as his darkness is all consuming and he will not let her see it.
Miranda begs him to help her as she has escaped from her sadistic, controlling father, a very rich man who enjoys playing with and breaking his toys for sexual gratification. She is desperate, damaged, and needing a saviour.
Miranda she gives Val, attitude, she is fiery, sarcastic, but still very vulnerable, her bruises are evidence, of a hellish existence, but she is stronger than Val or we expect.
I really fell in love with this book, yes somethings are hard to read about. I felt anger, and outrage, and disgusted at things that happened in the storyline as they were revealed, you feel like you are experiencing the things with your characters. You get a real gut punch at one point, and sit there bewildered and praying that there is more, you feel you cannot put the book down it has to be read, you need to experience it to the end. Well done Christine, cannot wait to read the next books, as Thorn is sitting there with that beautiful smile needing his story to be told.
