I am happier now with the way story of these two characters turned out and was glad I didn't just give up on the Firebrand Series after a disappointing prequel (that I almost, but not quite, wish I hadn't read). This isn't an overtly "Christian" Romantic Suspense but the two lead characters do begin to seek/ acknowledge God.

Ten years ago Ash DeHan left Lainey to train with the Firebrand Brotherhood, expecting to be gone a short time and return to a life with the woman he loved. Life didn’t work that way. He returns from a deadly mission with the elite group of ex-military personnel to discover that not only did Lainey not wait for him, she married his brother and had his child. Ash vowed never to return to his hometown, so strong was the betrayal he felt, and he’s kept that vow for ten years. Then, he gets a mysterious message written on his bill at the diner, telling him that Lainey is in trouble and he needs to call her. The dead bodies of the diner’s cook and waitress add urgency to the message.
Lainey DeHan thought her home’s security system would protect her and Max – until it didn’t. When two men break into her home, hold her at knifepoint and insist that she tell Ash to come home Lainey tells them she doesn’t know how to contact him. No problem, she’s told, he’ll be calling you and if he doesn’t come home, we’ll be back. First for your son, then for you. Frantic, Lainey awaits Ash’s call and when it comes her story brings him and the rest of Firebrand to her doorstep.
Can Ash keep the woman he never stopped loving safe from his threatening past? As he deals with the present threat, will it be their shared past that hurts them both the most?
What a thrill ride! This book starts at the top of the first rollercoaster hill and screams through twists and turns and more hills so fast it’s hard to keep up. Lainey’s whole focus for the last 10 years has been protecting Max and making sure her past could never hurt him. When her past is forced back into her life, I loved the strength she called on to handle everything that happened.
Suspense readers will love this book. Once I started it, I could not put it down. Readers of Love Inspired Suspense will be familiar with Sandra Robbins who has many titles out under that imprint. This one is definitely one that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until the final conflict.

Within the first few pages of this exceptionally well written book, I could feel my heart pumping. As Lainey feels the presence of someone in the house, she knew trouble was close by. I literally sat on the edge of my seat as the scene played out. The writing is so intense and detailed that I began to feel like I was there watching everything in real time. It is not easy to write at that caliber, but the author has brilliantly delivered a first rate action packed thriller .

Ash is as tough as they come. He has been part of The Firebrand. It is a group of the very best of trained men to undertake assignments from the American government . Their assignments are dangerous but rewarding. Now it seems that the group is being taken in a new direction and Ash has to decide if he wants to train others to continue the work that Firebrand is famous for. As Ash sits at the diner, he notices how empty it is. When the waitress cones over, his guard is up as she calls him by name. How did she know his name? What message was written on the ticket the waitress left at the table?

Lainey has kept a secret from Ash that will take him by surprise. Will this secret put people in danger? As Ash is called home he can feel the tension in the air between him and Lainey. I loved the chemistry between them. They have a lot of emotions to work through. The author does an incredible job of bringing two people together as they sort through forgiveness, deceit, danger and a bit of romance that makes the book so powerful. Be prepared for action at the highest level in this fast paced story that delivers twists that you don't see coming. I loved the first installment of this series and can't wait to purchase the next one when it is available. I have found a new author that writes with great depth, keeps readers guessing and a story that will have you on pins and needles.

TARGETED BY SANDRA ROBBINS
Wanted to read this book because of the action and adventure. It's so much more than that.
Starts out with Lainey and her son Max who are being threatened to get her brother in law to come back to the house.
Ash has been working out of CO when he gets a note to call home-he follows the waitress and finds the dead diner owner and the waitress and no sign of the woman who handed him the note. He alerts the authorities and calls Lainey and when he hears what she has to say he informs her he'll be home soon.
He arrives with help from Firebrand friends, a military trained group who sometimes help the US government out of sticky situations.
I have read other books along the same premise and the reads are action packed and fast paced, as is this one. You learn a lot just sitting back taking it all in-they tend to cover all the angles.
Threat of bombs, more death threats and Ash is handed a personal note from the lawyer from his dead brother...He's learning a few new things about Lainey and she's not as bad as he had feared-keeping everything for herself but for her son.
They know who the threats are coming from and try to anticipate what will happen next as Ash tries to keep Lainey and Max safe. Also chapters from the cartel with their plans.
He has a big decision to make: stay with Firebrand or go about his own business and/or stay to help with Max. He asks God for help and doesn't get a feel that he's there...
SO many twists and turns, the plot really keeps you interested in reading what's gonna happen next. good surprise ending, didn't see it going down that way.
Excerpt from the next book in the series in included at the end. Didn't read the prequel book but I didn't feel I was in the dark as some things are discussed from the past.

Targeted is the first book in the new series Firebrand by Sandra Robbins. This book was amazing. You need to hold on to your seats for this book because you have a roller coaster of excitement coming your way. From page one you are hanging on to every word wondering what is going to happen next. The author has done an excellent job writing in such detail and energy that even though everything is on high speed you are still able to keep up. This thriller is full of suspense and a hint of romance with twists and turns you won't see coming.
Lainey Dehan and her 10 year old son Max are home together when she hears someone breaking into the house. These men break in and tell her to get Ash, her brother in law home! Well that is easier said than done since she doesn't know where he is since he left 10 years ago. He left to join the Firebrand an elite group of ex military that take on sensitive jobs for our government.
Ash is sitting at a restaurant contemplating whether to stay in the Firebrand or retire. He looks up and realizes that for a restaurant it is pretty empty. This sends red flags up for him especially when the waitress that he didn't have before shows up at his table calling him by name? She gives him a message that changes everything. Ash is on his way home now because he knows that Lainey and his nephew are in danger. He knows it is his job to protect them at all costs since his brother is dead.
These two, Ash and Lainey have secrets that could very well put everyone in danger! They have a lot to work out and need to dig deep for forgiveness before someone pays the ultimate price.
I loved the fast paced energy of this book and can't wait for the next one.

Targeted by Sandra Robbins is book 1 in the Firebrand Series. Lainey DeHan is a young widow with a 10 year old son, Max. She is also running her late husband's family business. One night some men break into her home and tell her she has to have her brother-in-law, Ash, come home. Lainey does not know where Ash is. Ash left home 10 years earlier to join The Firebrand Brotherhood. When he left he did not know Lainey was pregnant with his child. Ash's father and brother watch out for Lainey and she eventually marries his brother. When Ash found out Lainey and his brother were married, he never returned home, not even for his father's or brother's funerals.

Ash does not know Max is his son but they both quickly develop strong feelings for each other. Ash wants to be a part of Max's life, but to do so, he needs to leave his job. He looks to God for help.

Sandra Robbins is a new author for me and I am so glad I was given the chance to read this book. It is so good. This is Christian Fiction but is more so just a very good story. There is a lot of action and suspense to keep the story line moving quickly with just a touch of romance. The book reminds me of a “who done it” type book and I was often surprised with the outcome. I'm excited to read the next book in the series. There is a prequel to this book, but there is enough background information given in this story that is can be read as a stand alone novel.

Sandra Robbins is a new name (to me) to watch in romantic suspense. Targeted, the first tome of the Firebrand series, introduces Ash DeHan,part of a special ops group who works for the government. After nearly an eleven year absence, an emergency calls him home, where he swore he would never return and to the woman he swore he'd never forgive.

After all this time, Lainey DeHan has sworn to hate Ash forever for deserting her. But now she has a son to consider and how she works together with Ash may determine if her 10 year old son will survive the immediate future.

I must admit, I have a hard time identifying with these types of situations. However, moving beyond that, the action was exciting and quick. I kept turning the pages to discover which direction the story would careen next. Robbins does a great job making the reader empathetic to her characters until you will wish you could pull the "puppet strings" to make situations different. So much more could be said, but I have a sequel or two to look up. Recommended for romantic suspense fans!

"Targeted" by Sandra Robbins was an excellent romantic suspense novel. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. This book kept me interested from the first page and throughout the whole novel. It also had some twists and turns.

This book starts out with Ash DeHan's dead brother's wife and son being in danger. Ash has been gone from the family for 10 years because he has been a member of the Firebrand Brotherhood. He gets a message to come home to the family. This begins the journey of Ash, his sister-in-law and nephew. Ash and his brotherhood are trying to figure out who wants him and his family dead and why. This is the first book in the Brotherhood Series. There is a prequel that I wasn't able to read first, but I was able to understand what was going on in this book.

If you love romantic suspense novels and some twists and turns, you will love this novel. I received this book from bookfun for my honest opinion.

I love to read books written by the talented author Sandra Robbins. This book was great. Filled with suspense, lots of fast paced action and romance. A real page turner. Great defined characters.
Ash DeHan left his hometown and Lainey the love of his life a decade ago to join the elite Firebrand Brotherhood. A group of ex-military people who hire out their services to several government agencies. He thought he would return soon and marry Lainey. That did not happen and she married his brother.
Lainey and her son Max were home alone when someone broke into her house and threatened her and Max unless she got Ash to return home. Once he is back the action, suspense and danger begin and you feel like you are on a roller coaster ride that won't stop.
An amazing Christian fiction novel not to be missed. Looking forward to the next two books in the series.
I highly recommend this book.

Fabulous, thrilling, action packed novel! I couldn’t put it down. It begins with Lainey awakening in her home with an intruder who threatens her life and worse, the life of her son Max. She is told to get her brother-in-law Ash to come home. Ash hasn’t been home in over 10 years – not since he left to join an elite group of “ex-military individuals who hire out their services to various American government agencies needing assistance with delicate situations,” otherwise known as the Firebrands. The reader quickly learns that a Mexican mafia boss wants revenge on Ash, through Lainey, his dead brother’s wife and her son.

Bomb threats, kidnapping attempts, and more occur while Ash is “protecting” Lainey and Max. Like I said, great for the adrenaline junky! I highly recommend this book! I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion.

This was basically a good story that kept me reading but there were some "things" that made me wonder. One thing was that sometimes when natural instinct would send people rushing around, the main characters would just talk about things, and things unrelated to the emergency. I also thought it odd that Lainey could be the CEO of a major company and never do anything but consult with William now and again. I thought it strange that when people would sneak themselves or things through the protective perimeter, that was the end of things--there wasn't mention of the subsequent manhunt that would logically ensue. I also thought that Victor seemed extra kill-happy. The killing of the nurse was totally unnecessary--for Victor and for the story. Idk. The story was okay but I do not want to read on in the series.

This is a very good read for the first in the series. I love stories where the hero shows his flaws. You have the romance, intrigue, betrayals, brotherhood, loyalty and forgiveness. This story reminds us of the lengths God will go to have a relationship with us. The reader will walk away from this story hopeful that God knows they are not perfect and yet desires to be near them. I like the active pace of the dialogue. The characters were likeable and relatable. You will understand a young girl’s hope, a young man’s desire to be a man and a child’s heart for a family.

Targeted, first in the Firebrand series by Sandra Robbins is a suspenseful, fast-paced book. Readers are kept guessing throughout the book. White-knuckle grip tension keeps the pages turning. Lainey, a widow with a 10-year-old son, Max is threatened and that brings her former boyfriend, ex-military soldier, Ash, home to protect his now sister-in-law and nephew. Secrets are revealed, death threats continue to mount, and the action-packed story quickly moves to a climactic ending. The author has written a great suspense story with twists and turns to the plot and realistic and evocative characters. This reader is looking forward to the next in the series.
