Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—award winning author Elisabeth Naughton taught middle school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Elisabeth now writes full-time.

Though primarily known for her romantic suspense work, Elisabeth has penned over thirty books and continues to write in multiple genres, including paranormal romance and contemporary romance. Her books have been translated into numerous languages and have earned several award nominations, including three prestigious RITA® nominations from Romance Writers of America. In 2017, REPRESSED, the first book in her Deadly Secrets series, won the RITA® for best romantic suspense.

Elisabeth's work has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as being filled with "deadly intrigue, high adrenaline action, and scorchingly hot passion.” Kirkus calls her "a writer talented enough at weaving a yarn to get her readers ensnared in it.” When not dreaming up new stories, Elisabeth can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home, wrangling two cats, or chasing after one very rambunctious Dalmatian.

ENTWINED is the 2nd book in Elisabeth Naughton's Eternal Guardian series and continues with the Argonauts fight against the evil Atalanta and her daemons from destroying the peaceful realm called Argolea.

He’s tired of his immortal life and the loss of his soul mate. He feels there is nothing worth living for.
Believing he has nothing to lose he volunteers to bind himself to Isadora in place of Demetrius and perhaps finally he can get on with his life and get over his lost love.

Callia is the realm’s healer. photo Callia_zpsem5c59ah.jpg
She keeps her feeling for Zander hidden and shows a calm and collected face to the world. The two have a long shared history together, which ended in a very sad and heartbreaking manner. The circumstances which are revealed at the end are pretty heart-wrenching.

Unable to forget their feelings for each other, they now have to face never being together as Zander’s binding to Isadora is non-negotiable!!

Atalanta is getting stronger and bolder in her quest to destroy anyone who stands in her way to becoming the ultimate ruler of the world. The Argonauts continue thwarting her plans but she’s holding something or someone that is very important to Zander & Callia….and is prepared to do anything to stop them from finding out about it.

A lot happens in this story…..the fights between the daemons, working with the half-breeds known as Misos, Isadora being kidnapped, betrayal, lies, deception, discovering the true identity of the little boy, Max who lives with Atalanta…
 photo MAX_zpsumhzelz0.jpg
…….lots of action, lots of daemon kills!!!!

I enjoyed Zander & Callia’s story. They had a lot to get through before getting their HEA….which is so lovely.

I love the secondary characters in this series….and one of my favorites has to be Orpheus…this is one COOOL guy!!!
I hope we get his story.....

I am really liking the way this series is progressing. And the cliffhanger at the end was pretty awesome.

I want to say up-front that while I really enjoyed this book, there are a few plot holes, and some other things that I am sure will bug some readers.

For me, I really liked the book. I liked the first one a lot too, though. The author sounds like she wants to be the next Sherrilyn Kenyon mixed with JR Ward-hey who doesn't? (not in a rip-off kind of way, but in a really cool way).

I really liked our heroine Callia, and I did like Zander, however for what he did, I don't think he groveled enough.(I get the mis-communication that her father perpetuated, but I felt Zander was an ass) Although what he did say was sweet. I wish we had seen more backstory from 10 years ago when they met and fell in love. And you know how some authors take their sequel and re-hash the first book too much? This book didn't do that, which is awesome! But there was zero-to-no rehashing at all, so I was a bit confused since I read the first one a while back.

But, with all that said and done, my main problem with this book wasn't the writing or the plot (which I liked, plotholes and all), it was Max.

***SPOILER ALERT***

***END SPOILER***

I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did. I definitely will keep on reading this series.

Este libro sin duda mucho mejor que el primero.

La historia es más fluida.

Más interesante.

Y amé al protagonista, aunque a ella al principio no me gustaba mucho.

También tiene mucha acción.

OMFG, this book was simply AMAZING! I don’t know of any other adjectives that can accurately describe this story. Zander & Callia fell in love and discovered that they were soul mates 10 yrs ago. Then they were torn apart by deception, lies & betrayal -this book is about their way back to each other & to finally love again.

This was such an emotional book. At the beginning both Zander & Callia are filled with such anger & bitterness towards each other BUT you also see the remnants of the love they once shared for each other, it has never died. Their story is one of the most beautiful & heart-wrenching that I’ve ever read. They are filled with so much hurt & loss and feel as if the other has completely shunned them. When they uncover the truth, the scenes are simply stunning and I was left breathless & with tears streaming. To realize all that has been done to them and that they were able to find their way back to each other, the journey was oh so worth it and one I’d take again & again. There was a lot of other content & story line that filled the pages of this book. Again the suspense & mystery that kept the story arc moving was exceptional, just as in MARKED. However what struck me most was the relationship between the H/h, Zander & Callia & once you read it, because *sending a subliminal message to you* YOU WILL GO AND BUY THESE BOOKS AND READ IMMEDIATELY, you will understand why. I bow to the greatness that is Elisabeth Naughton and her amazing ability to write and exceptional Paranormal Romance series!

Favorite Quotes
“As for this?” He nodded down to where he still held her tight against him. ”It’s not at all what you think it is. It’s eight hundred years of searching for you and then trying to live without you. It’s being close to you and wanting something I can’t have. And that’s not sex, Callia. That’s you. Just you. The only thing I’ve ever wanted.”
-Zander

“We’re linked together, you & me. This goes deeper than the fact that I love you. It’s more than just you being my soul mate. This is about us and the reason I’ve never been able to let go of you either.” He moved in closer, and warmth closed around her as she felt her heart beating in time with his. ”There’s more, thea. No matter what happens today, tomorrow, there’s more ahead for us. You are my life. This story doesn’t end here. Not unless we let it.”

5 Fantastic stars!

Zander is an Argonaut, the oldest of the Eternal Guardians, tasked with protecting both humans and his realm from the daemon forces. He was once in love but was betrayed by his soul mate and now lives with the bitter aftertaste of that affair. Callia is the King's healer. She has tried to distance herself from Zander, her first love, but fate keeps throwing them together. Now faced with a common enemy and a hunt for a loved one, can they put aside the past to make a future together?

Entwined is book 2 of the Eternal Guardian series. This is such an unexpected surprise. I expect fun. I expected interesting, exciting, even creative, but I did not expect heart-clenching, heart-felt, and heart-melting.

"You don't understand. I didn't want to forget what happened, Zander. I wanted to forget you. I wanted to forget how I felt about you..."

"Is this your way of telling me you finally did?" he whispered.

"No. I didn't. I never have. That's the problem. It didn't work...Pain isn't freeing. It's just one more reminder of what you've lost. And now all I have are these ugly scars. That's what I'll have when this is all over."

I love stories where the characters get another opportunity at love. I appreciate Zander and Callia's shared history, and was eager to see how they resolve the problem that kept them apart in the first place. How do they reconcile? This second chance story goes emotionally deeper. This misunderstanding HURT. The assumptions, the lack of trust, the regret make way ultimately, for the redemption.

"If I had known," he said in a voice thick with emotion, "I would have been there with you. Every second. Nothing would have kept me away. And no one..." His muscles tensed against her. "No one would have ever hurt you." ... His fingers slid into her hair and he tipped her face to his gently. But it wasn't anger that plagued his features. It was regret. And sorrow. And a grief only she could understand."

Elisabeth Naughton infuses this emotional journey with quick-paced suspense. The story is compelling on so many levels. It just works.

Elisabeth Naughton has up the ante with Book 2. A fantastic read, it will entice you to the next book, Tempted.

There's nothing earth shattering about this series... but it is a very readable paranormal series with a nice balance between the Greek mythology and the HEA of the featured couple in this case Callia the Argolean healer and Zander descendant of the great Achilles. It's sort of in the same league as Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld but I actually like this series better. Much more concisely written and without a lot of the waffle and angst. There's even a reason given for the conflict between each couple (A curse from the jealous Goddess, Hera that works for me).

3.5 - 4 stars.

Quickie Review:
Entwined was a good continuation of the Eternal Guardians series and I loved the main couple, Zander and Callie, and watching them come to terms with their past together while work through some deep and heart wrenching misunderstandings. I also enjoyed the continuing dynamics between the other Guardians and watching the series’ villain’s scheme and plot their evil. But this second book in the series didn’t seem to flow as well as the first book, Marked. The story line was choppy and the plot left me confused often. By the end though, it did seem to straighten out and flow smoothly but I wasn't able to immerse myself into a big portion of it.

If you’re a fan of the first book then I definitely recommend you reading this one and if you’re new to the series then I would advise you starting at book one because there are several sub-plots and background stories going on that I think a new reader would be extremely confused by.
It really is a great series overall and I recommend it to paranormal romance fans looking for a unique story line and a break from the everyday vampire and shifter novels.

<2 stars for the characters, 4+ stars for the main storyline

Final rating = 3 stars

If you're a proponent of womens' bodily autonomy, there are some conversations between the MCs that may irk you. On one hand, the heroine says she wants to change the archaic, patriarchal ways of their world. And yet, her and the hero's viewpoints on a certain subject are both regressive and victim blaming.

Whatever.

The story itself is very cool and I may read on to learn about the outcome of the next book's couple.

Or maybe not.

I'm kind of pissed.

THE STORY
The Eternal Guardians are descendants of the seven greatest heroes in Greek history. Hercules. Achilles. Men of legend. And the Guardians have become the stuff of legends themselves. There is unrest in both the mortal realm and their home of Argolea, and only the Guardians stand between a vengeful goddess and the humans and Argoleans they have sworn to protect with their lives.

Zander is descended of Achilles and the oldest of the Guardians. Being the eldest, he's watched friends, brothers-in-arms, and leaders fall while he continues fighting. Ten years ago he thought he'd found the purpose for his long life. Perhaps his immortality was gifted to him so that he could be around to find Callia, the king's personal healer. It seemed, however, the ever unpredictable Fates had other plans for him, and his relationship with Callia came to an abrupt and emotional end.

Now both Zander and Callia avoid contact with one another as much as possible though both remain in the employment of the king. No talking, no touching, no acknowledging the existence of the other. However, their personal drama is soon escalated by the growing threat of daemons, horrific and detestable creatures who seek to feed on humans; an arranged marriage with the king's daughter, and a history they thought long since buried brought to the surface. Zander has survived centuries free of his descendant's famous fatal flaw, but his renewed proximity with Callia might be the impetus that reveals that weakness to friend and foe alike.

MY THOUGHTS
Two words. Quite. Enjoyable. This series is in the same vein as Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters and Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld, so fans of either will appreciate the focus on one particular hero and his struggle to defeat a villain of mythological proportions while having his life complicated by a sometimes unwanted female presence. The Guardians are strong, often egotistical, and fiercely protective, making them the ultimate romantic heroes.

Often times in paranormal romance novels, I find myself drawn to the hero but ultimately unable to relate to the heroine. The heroine tends to be of one of two ilks: either she's whiny and causes the hero interminable suffering with her constant denial of both him and their current predicament, or the author sometimes overcompensates by making her almost too self-assured and confident by refusing any and all help from the hero. This type of heroine often insists she is always correct regardless of the information contradicting her personal assessment, and sets off to do what she thinks is best without thought to the alternative consequences outside the ones she has conjured in her head. Neither type is particularly appealing to me.

Callia is a wonderful blend of characteristics, where no one particular trait overwhelms the others to make her cross the boundary from enjoyable to obnoxious. She is intelligent and strong-willed, yet compassionate when the situation is appropriate. She listens to the available information and acts accordingly (except for one instance), keeping her feelings in check and letting rational thought prevail.

Her history with Zander is slowly revealed to us, and it becomes clear that a series of miscommunications has left permanent emotional footprints on both souls. Their history is tragic, their hurt palpable, and their pain obvious in every prolonged loaded silence. This is not the typical meet, fall into lust, profess undying love, and then temporarily separate only to be united in the end type of storyline that dominates so many paranormal romances. Instead, these two share a history of betrayal and loss that makes them seem real despite their paranormal abilities and supernatural environment.

And so as to not be outdone by her beautifully depicted protagonists, Naughton creates a wicked enemy who gives new meaning to "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". Atalanta, former Argonaut like the Guardians and leader of the daemons, is blissfully cruel and terrifically callous, and I look forward to her continued presence in future installments.

Pick this one up if you like alpha males, strong yet realistic women, and a little Greek mythology in your romance.

LOVVVIT! It seems now the story gets BETTER! As usual, I enjoyed the combat and some gory scenes. The plot was intriguing. Compared with previous, this book has a couple of steamy scenes which was scorching hot *fanself*. Besides, here's a scene that was heartbreaking I wanted to cry. Talk about intense. Everything was superb intense just prepared emotionally if you are intend to seriously indulge in Entwined.

My one big puzzle is Max was raised and grew up under Atalanta's thumb. Though he's okay physically and finally embraced his humanity, what about his emotional and mental though? I bet he's damaged inside. Even small part of it. I just want to know. So Ms. Naughton, I just hope you give Max's his own book well of course after he becomes a man some day.

My pet peeve for this book is I am so not impressed with the ending.

Off to Book 3 because it's Demetrius and Isadora. Yay! These two hate each other but the chemistry between them was sizzling hot. Recommended.

This book was muuuuch better than the first one but I still hate the future queen lol what an annoying character.

Okay, this author likes messy plots and messing with the characters lives. They are all over the place and wow, its a restless read.

This is a second chance romance story and unfortunately I believe their love story happens a lot in real life. Where the lack of communication breaks something that could have been awesome from the begging, where you start hating each other for what you think happen without asking the other for the truth. And you start being destructive towards yourself, you hate the world and do nothing to change it.

So yeah, the whole story could have been so different if they had simply talked. That's one of the reasons why I don't like second chance romance. Anyway, the book was better than the first and made me itchy to see what happens in the next one.

I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.....

That was a roller coaster of a book, but had great emotional pull that made you want to not put it down.

I found all the gods more easy to understand being book two, and how my feelings changed about the characthers through the book.

Zander - to me certain aspects of him reminded me of zsadist from bdb - which is no bad thing.
Isadora - she's stronger than others realise, but still lacking personality to me.
Callee - feisty, strong, sexy, won't take being pushed around.

Basically two people who love each other convince themselves they hate each other - until events make them face the truth, and that's just the start if it. Twists and turns galore and very absorbing.

Looking forward to book 3 now.

This is the second book in the Eternal Guardians series. I loved it!

My sister recommended this series to me as she had read them all (that have been released so far) and thought I would enjoy it, and she was right! I downloaded this as an audiobook, as I had previously enjoyed listening to the first book in the series, Marked, in audiobook too. Entwined is again narrated by Elizabeth Wiley. She did another fantastic job in telling the story. Her narration was crystal clear and her interpretation of the characters brought them to life.

Zander is an interesting character. I really liked him, but he has a serious issue with self-pity at first, which I found a bit off putting for a hero. He is one of the oldest of the Argonaughts and, as he is from Achilles bloodline, believes himself to be immortal. Nevertheless, as the story progresses, he pulls his head out of his you-know-what and is actually a great person to know, who realises that everyone has their weakness and his happens to be his soul mate.

Callia is a wonderful character. She is the King's physician and has the power to heal. I really liked this strong willed woman. She has had to endure a lot over the last ten years, but her spirit has not been broken. But when Zander volunteers to marry Isadora, her world comes crashing down around her ears.

This story is another roller coaster ride, full of action, adventure and danger. Adalanta is busy preparing her demons for war with the Argonaughts, and has a secret weapon in her arsenal, though he's not very willing. This secret weapon is a young boy by the name of Max, who is ten years old. I really liked Max. He is a very resourceful young man, who has had to endure years of abuse and cruelty at the hands of Adalanta, and has had to do some terrible things to survive. His courage and determination to escape his "Mataras" to find his real mother had me cheering him on. Callia also finds out a secret about herself which, although it surprised her, didn't really surprise me. But it made me look at the King in a slightly different light!

As the story progressed, I fell in love with all of the Argonaught warriors, and the story in general. This is a fast paced, action packed adventure from beginning to end.
As I said in my review for Marked, "This story is mostly a typical paranormal romance, with lots of action and danger mixed in. However, there are several twists and turns that keep one guessing at what is really going on.", but after listening to this story I realised that there is a bigger story arc within each storyline, and I am looking forward to finding out what that story arc will reveal. One thing I will say about this story (and series) is the world building is excellent. The characters are well developed and extremely lifelike. I have always been intrigued with Greek gods and their offspring such as Hercules, whose exploits became legend (or are they myth?) over time. So reading about his descendants, who were with Jason on his voyage for the Golden Fleece, excites me. I am also a huge sucker for paranormal romances in general, so I am looking forward to continuing with this series and I will (hopefully) get to read/listen to Tempted as soon as I can.

Elisabeth Naughton has written an exciting paranormal romance series. I love her fast paced writing style and the flow is wonderful. I will be continuing to read this series, but I do have one of her romantic suspense novels sitting on my Kindle, which I hope to now read in the near future too!

Due to scenes of a sexual nature that are on the explicit side, I do not recommend this book for younger readers. However, I highly recommend this book if you love erotic paranormal romances. - Lynn Worton

Zander is an Argonaut, born of the guardian class descended from the greatest heroes in all of ancient Greece. Known as an Eternal Guardian, he must protect the half-breed race Argoleans. Zander is sick of fighting and would love nothing more than to give in. But as the famed descendant of Achilles, he must continue to put up a good fight against the deamons that want to destroy the half-breeds.

Callia is the dying King of Leonidas's personal healer who rules Argolea. With the king dying and his enemy, Atalanta, roaming the human realm waiting for the right time to cross into Argolea to exact her revenge for being cast out of the Argonauts, times are very dangerous. Things become even more taxing when Leonidas proclaims that his daughter Isadora will marry an Argonaut and beget an heir. Isadora doesn't want to marry anybody, least of all an Argonaut, and when Zander volunteers to be her husband, Callia feels as if her heart has been ripped apart. Zander is her soul mate, but after not seeing him for ten years, the hurt between them is still strong. Zander almost hates Callia with the same passion he once felt for her. Only he knows she did something so horrible that he can never forgive. Callia feels that Zander has betrayed her even though she still yearns for him. But Zander refuses to forgive Callia until the truth about the circumstances of their relationship come to light and all the deceit and lies are forced out into the open.

Entwined is heavy on Greek mythology with a tortured hero and heroine who have been betrayed by those they loved. Elisabeth Naughton relies heavily on the angst and the build up of passion between Zander and Callia. These two ache for one another but through confusion and miscommunication they are separated due to things they weren't aware of. Zander's anger toward Callia is very much alive on the pages and there is a point where you think these two will never work things out. Callia tries to work things out with Zander, who treats her with disdain and almost disgust.

The cast of characters that round out Enwtined are very rich in personality and spirit. Isadora is a fighter and refuses to be a victim of circumstance. She makes a deal that could very well destroy her, but with an individual who is not what he seems. I was more interested in Isadora and her path than with Zander and Callia. Those two just had too much rage and hurt between them. It really made for difficult reading. I felt more of an observer and didn't have any emotional attachment what so ever to them.

Elisabeth Naughton is a good writer, but something about Entwined didn't keep me interested. I simply wasn't engaged enough and almost couldn't make it through. There were some nice fighting scene and moments of passion between Zander and Callia, but overall, this was a read that just didn't stay with me and was quickly forgotten once I finished reading.

Entwined is the second book in the Eternal Guardian series. I have really learned to love this author, and the theme to this series has been such fun to explore. Entwined is the story about Zander and Callia. Entwined is a audiobook, and the narrator is Elizabeth Wiley, who has become a favorite of mine. After having read two other books in the series, I have fallen in love with this author. From the previous book we see Callia, who is the king's healer. Entwined is her story along with Zander. We don't see too much of him in the previous book, so it was good to see way more in depth of Zander. This story, starts off with the King demanding that a Argenaut marry his daughter Isadora. At first he demands that it be Dimitri, but then Zander steps in when Dimitri refuses. Zander believes himself to be immortal, unable to die. So he figures he only has five hundred years to lose, unlike the others, he has lived long enough to know their fathers and grandfathers. Even knowing he has a lifemate, believing that they have no future. But when Zander goes on a mission to the mortal world, he is injured trying to save half breeds, and Callia is then brought to him to heal him. Thus begins Zander and Callia starting out on a adventure where misunderstandings threaten their future, but when danger escalates with the demons, Zander and Callia will have to learn to trust each other once again if they want to survive.

Entwined was a thrilling installment of the Eternal Guardians. There is actually quite a bit that goes on in this story. Some of which I don't want to give away, so I don't spoil the book for those that haven't read it yet. This couple has serious trust issues, probably due to lack of communication and betrayal of those they trust the most. Zander and Callia have been separated even knowing they are destined for each other. I do wish that there had been some flashbacks in this story, to understand their relationship from the past a bit more deeper. But as the plot progresses, you get enough to put everything together. We get to see more of the Guardians, Isadora, and the half breeds. Atlanta-the queen of the demons, rears her ugly head once again, and we see more of her cruelty. Then we see a new character Max (who was my favorite). Those of you who have read Entwined, definitely understand I would think. Charming and sweet, and I was totally cheering for him all the way. From the beginning to end this story was enriched with emotion, passion and zest.

Overall a suspenseful story that takes you away in passion and adventure, enough to blow your mind away. A phenomenal romance that will bring a few tears to your eye, a story to pull at your heart strings, and a book to be sealed up into the memory of the reader.ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!

I can not believe I am going to say this, but so far this series has captured my like very few others... It has not just peaked my attention but it has grabbed it and won’t let go. I find lately that my reading interests have been leaning towards the links between ancient myths and humans, guardians and immortals and always good vs evil. Elisabeth Naughton's Immortal Guardians hold their own in this particular branch of the PNR Genre. Standing right up there with the heavy weights, like Sherrilyn Kenyon. As always when you read a particular genre you see similarities but the strengths come in their differences and let me tell you The Immortal Guardian series is just plain different. Entwined is a powerful book about love lost and found. Choices if for the greater good or be true to oneself and the ultimate struggle of good vs evil, the struggles within yourself.

********************************************************

Yes this book was about choices but it was also about hope. No matter how dark, hope remains. I know there are other series *grins* that consider hope just another demon but Ms Naughton treats hope as the precious commodity it is. The true light in the darkness, the beacon that brings us home. So far, this series is just getting better and better.. Next Tempted then I have to wait until April for Enraptured. I wish these authors would write faster..

But on a serious note, I seriously recommend that those of you that like, Kenyon's Dark Hunters or Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood, or Showalter's Lords of the Underworld, give this series a try.

Entwined took a few chapters for me to get fully immersed in the world. Maybe it was my lack of empathy for Zander at first, or maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for his self-destructive behavior. I don’t know, but I’m glad I stuck with it.

This book focuses on Zander the Argonaut and Callia the king’s healer. Zander is impulsive, angry, and his “woe is me” attitude reminded me of another character in a series about a band of brothers. Zander is immortal and he challenges his immortality regularly. Callia had a torrid affair with Zander 10 years earlier, resulting in a pregnancy. Callia and Zander both believed that the baby died.

Once again, this book pushes the idea of finding one’s soul mate. I found it kind of sad that Zander had to be told by another Argonaut that Callie was his soul mate. Men. Argonauts or humans, they always seem to ignore the signs. Personally, I’m a sucker for the concept of finding one’s soul mate. I like to believe that there is someone out there for everyone. I loved how Zander began to realize that Callie was his “one” and how hard he had to work to regain her trust.

Once this book got going for me, it was fast paced, lots of action, swordplay, beheaded demons, and the like. Callie learns some interesting facts about her family. I can’t wait to see how it plays out in the next book.

I’m hooked on this series and I’ll be reading the next book Tempted soon.

Second book in the Eternal Guardians series.

The dying King is still trying to marry off his legitimate daughter Isadora to one of the Guardians. Isadora doesn't want any of them but after Demetrios humiliates her, Zander puts his hand up and offers. She accepts because really there isn't any other choice.

Only trouble is his soul mate, Callie, the King's Healer, is still trying 11 years later to get over him. He has stopped feeling anything and thinks taking one for the team maybe all he can do for them.

What no one knows is that Callie is another of the King's daughters, the third of the Horae, the balance.

Atalanta knows and schemes to grab Max, Callie & Zander's son, at the moment of birth. For a demigod she sure has long range backup plans.

Really enjoyed the Greek mythology overlaying contemporary times, enjoyed the Elder Council games vs the Guardians. Thought some of the misunderstandings between Zander and Callie went on a little tooooo long. And I thought the HEA deserved more than the final 1.5 pages.

Looking forward to the next one.

This one was better than the first one for me, but I have to wonder about a few things. How many times are we going to have the same reveal that impacts people and their lives? If I see this same plot device in another book in this series I will be done, because really there are so many other things you can go to bring people into the story.

I liked Callia from the start. As you get to know her through the story you realize just how bad she got screwed over, and not just by one person, but my many. I also thought it was weird that when her one of her secrets was revealed she didn't really deal with it and neither did those that were involved in it.

Zander was a different story. At times I liked him, at others I thought he was a weak bastard and Callia deserves so much better. Even now after I am done reading I am not sure what to think.

One aspect of the story that I really enjoyed was all the Greek mythology and just how some of those people played into the story.

Damn you cliffhangers!!

*sniff* This made me sniffle in a couple of places. This is the story of Callia who is the palace healer and Zander. I enjoyed this way more than the first book. The story flowed better and because there was history between the two, the love aspect didn't feel rushed. Still sappy at a couple of places but the action balanced out the romance. Zander is angry and bitter. He is immortal and decides he needs a purpose in life. He thinks his purpose will be marrying princess Isadora but his past with Callia comes back and their love is rekindled.

"It's eight hundred years of searching for you and ten trying to live without you. It's being close to you and wanting something I can't have. And that's not sex, Callia. That's you. Just you. The only thing I've ever wanted."

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the character of Isadora. So far she hasn't been a very compeling or interesting character. Hopefully that will change soon.

I kind of like this one but there is still something that doesn't work for me.
I am used to brotherhoods/warriors/alpha males who are protective of their females, who want to feed them, take care of them etc.
All the males treat the women so callously and that always gives me a pause.
Zander and Callia were alluded in the last book as being true mates, so in this book, we got to find out what drove these lovers apart for the last 10 years.
Again, it seems like everyone is a pawn in both the King's game and in Atlanta's game. I am really coming to despise this King who seems to ask everyone to sacrifice in a way he hasn't.

I also feel bad for Queen-elect Isadora, who has lost another fiancée to another previously unknown half sister. That poor chick has crappy luck.

I want to read the next book because it's Isadora's but I can't say that I am enjoying the males. In fact, I am kind of team Atlanta right now.

Loved this story. From the blurb on the back I thought I would be bored. Nope. Couldn't stop reading this yesterday. Barely put it down to eat dinner. :)

There was quite a surprise in this book, a nice surprise.

My Review:

The Plot:

Descendant of the Greek Gods, the Argonauts are all that stand between the Argoleans and death. Towering males of incredible strength and lethal skill, they bravely risk their lives and traverse the portals of Argolea to Earth in order to combat daemons and the wrath of their leader - one very powerful and pissed off demigoddess known as Atalanta.

The Argonaut Zander is an immortal amongst his kind. He's seen kings come and go and brother Argonauts live and die. Now he wishes to end his infernal existence for he has no family to call his own and after having been cruelly betrayed by his soul mate ten years ago, there's nothing he longs to live for. Even the rise in daemons and the dire threat they pose to the Argoleans and the half-breed Misos on Earth can't sway him. But when the king demands that an Argonaut wed his daughter, Zander finds himself surprisingly raising his hand for the job. For the first time in ten years he feels he's found something to live for, a chance to make himself a worthy guardian again. That is until the king's personal physician asks him to strip...

Over the last ten years, Callia has nearly given up hope of ever being happy. Abandoned by Zander at a time when she needed him most, her persistent craving for him after all that he's destroyed leaves her frustrated and lost. While a distant part of her still hopes for a reconnection with Zander, that fragile hope is effectively squashed when Zander shockingly volunteers to bind himself until death to Princess Isadora. Now it's time to move on with life starting by gathering the tattered pieces of her torn soul and then proceeding, as the King's personal healer and at the behest of his command, to conduct a full physical examination of her one time love. Zander's virility must be ensured for heirs are a necessity in this turbulent time. With the Council looking to overthrow the power of the monarchy, the king will do whatever he must to ensure the survival of their people and with his dying breath he'll see his only legitimate daughter wed.

While making the decision to bind with Princess Isadora finds Zander a new found respect from his Argonaut brothers, it's done nothing to calm the consuming rage that continues to burn in the empty void where his soul should reside. Still clinging to his death wish, Zander continues to place himself in increasingly dangerous situations. After throwing himself into a battle where the odds were stacked sky-high against him, Zander's inevitable and horrific injuries has his Argonaut brothers rushing the best Argolean healer to his side: Callia.

Heedless of the fact that the love her life abandoned her ten years ago and then recently pledged his soul to another, Callia wastes little time before she's running to Zander's side. When a close and prolonged proximity rekindles a flaming desire between Zander and Callia, it becomes apparent that there's still unfinished business between the two. But while Callia is misled by a misinterpreted possibility of reconciliation, Zander is instead looking to just get his rocks off leading Callia to bolt into hostile territory. With hatred and pain once again reignited, things quickly get out of hand but that's not before a painful secret - lie rather - is revealed. Enemies close to their hearts have effectively stolen the most precious gift that their doomed romance was blessed to receive: life.

The Heroine:

Callia is a woman who on the outside presents a tower of strength but on the inside she's burdened with acute pain, sadness, and desolation. Surviving under the weight of all that she's lost, Callia's pushed through the last ten years by sheer will. While small, the kernel of hope lingering deep within her soul has survived a decade but it doesn't protect her heart from splitting open when Zander shoves this last piece of hope down the drain with his acknowledged pledge to another. While most would crumble under that kind of devastation, Callia lifts her head high as the last wisps of her dreams scatter to the wind.

Callia's source of pain is something that is leaked out slowly in the read but each tid bit is as shocking as the last. What's she borne and overcome is a thing of awe and it's not long before the reader is throwing their heart behind this brave woman. As the story progresses, the healing that occurs between Callia and Zander is slow and shaky as truths and betrayals are revealed but even with reconciliation comes the knowledge that they'll be separated forever since Zander gave his binding pledge to the king that he'll marry Princess Isadora. Knowing that in the face of all they've overcome happiness is still out of reach and it's utterly maddening but no worries folks, there's an HEA to be had with ENTWINED.

The Hero:

Zander is just as damaged as Callia as he's filled with self-loathing, anger, bitterness, and despair. He's desire to end his long and tortured existence is palpable as he throws himself again and again into life threatening situations. While Callia, as his soul mate, should be the calming force in his life, her believed betrayals leaves him shaken whenever in her presence. He loathes her as much as himself, so much so that only death can release him from the bonds of his pain.

Quite cruel at times to Callia, it's hard at times to hold onto a flame of hope for his character but when the source of his pain is revealed, one can't help but want to hold on as tightly as possible to his shattered soul and try to infuse some light into his dark existence. All is forgiven from a reader standpoint and while Zander continues to make mistakes with Callia, jeopardizing their fragile reconciliation, it all stems from a strong protection instinct. It's devastating to know that despite the fact that he's found his soul, his heart and his humanity, Zander still must let Callia go for his pledge to bind with Princess Isadora cannot be overturned.

My Thoughts:

ENTWINED, while emotionally tumultuous and complex, is also extremely engaging with a constant bombardment of activity, unveiled betrayals, and healing passion. There are several threads to this plot and while one would think that Naughton has every opportunity to drop one, if not all the balls she's got swirling in the air, delightfully this never happens. Not a single scene is wasted as everything reaches a satisfying crescendo and conclusion within this hero and heroine pairing. Bravo!

Another surprise: generally speaking, the use of The Big Misunderstanding in plots is a supreme source of frustration for me but with ENTWINED, all my developed stereotypes flew out the window. It all worked so well here that I'm finding myself rethinking my stance on The Big Mis. ... Maybe. :) But honestly, it did work well I think it's because while vitally important, it wasn't the only driver propelling this story. I've seen it used as the sole momentum for the plot before and in those cases, I'm pulling my hair out. Thankfully I retained all my hair with this read.

And finally with regard to the world building, while complex, it in no way distracts from the romance nor is it so over-the-top that a new reader can't dive in with this second series installment. I for one had no trouble diving in and taking off with this thrilling read making ENTWINED a good candidate for paranormal readers that don't enjoy heavy world building.

ENTWINED is everything that paranormal romance lovers want in their reads: rockin' action, fluid world building, evil villains and most importantly, page burning passion that leaves you panting for more. Enjoy!
