Mediko Jared Estro is a brilliant scientist, head of the mediko team on the Drastan fleet, and a well respected member of the Drastan community. So why does he lose all common sense the moment he is around the beautiful human female?
Lily Tyner survives losing her husband during a nuclear disaster and raised her young son in the most inhospitable environment. She will do anything to give her son Thomas a better life. Even if that means putting up with a self-righteous alien who is too good looking for his own good.
Both of them are haunted by tragedies in their past. Nothing worth having is ever easy, which is what these two find out when someone else wants to claim Lily for their own. Will they let their past keep them from making a future together? Or will these two strong wills seek comfort in each other and in the end find their Atonement?

Jared is tough and sweet. It was nice to see the family healing. They have needed it for so long. Lily is a very special person she survived with a small child in the worst of times. She built a home and family from nothing. She is strong. Jared worried me for a minute. But he came through. Great series. Great story.
Wow, this was such a good book. Had me in tears at one point. Who knew an alien could be so.... well, I'll just tell you that being a father has more to do with feeling then biology. Jared is part of the family of alien leaders who are doing all they can to assist earth after an atomic war. Some from earth were allowed to enter protective domes but not all were so lucky. They were left to subway tunnels under the city. The "big bad aliens" as some anti alien factions try to convince the humans, are doing everything to help, including treating radiation sickness and those injured in the explosions and battles.
A couple of earth women have discovered just how helpful and loving theses gorgeous guys can be. Married and pregnant, Lily's sisters of the heart have found what she longs for. Having a young son makes her priories different and other men have made it clear her son is not what has their interest. Yet Jared, her brothers-in-law brother has befriended her son and shown him attention and played a man's attentive role, without any play for Lily. Darn. But that is soon to change.
Can they find love as the other couples have done? Will traitors, battles, a planet to rebuild keep they apart or draw them together.
This has touching moments, steamy times, and people of all kinds taking a chance on that universal thing called love. Don't miss this--and great news. It is a stand a lone book in a series. I missed one book in the series but am going back to get it for the top of my TBR list. Can't wait for more of these hunky guys and the strong women they can't help loving.
In the disaster that is post-apocalyptic Earth, love stories have been set in motion. An alien race, the Drastans, have come to help humans heal and rebuild. But there are pockets of resistance, those who seem bent on continuing the human kinds' race to destruction. In this installement of KD Jones series, we catch up with Lily and Jared. Lily had trained to be a nurse before the bombs hit. Now, she works with the alien mediko, assisting with the trips into the tunnels and domes, and helping to administer healing. One mediko has caught her attention, Jared Estro. He's strong and caring and hotter than heck, but Lily has a young son to think about. Her boy has already lost his father and most of his world, she won't choose any man over her son. Jared has gone through all of the training required for his people and his final choice of careers is mediko. After the death of his mother during the birth of his brother, Jared has carried an unwavering guilt for not being there to help in some way. Becoming a mediko allows him to redeem himself in some small way. He refuses to commit to long term relationships because he thinks he doesn't deserve them and he's afraid of loving someone that much and losing them. But he notices Lily and her son, Thomas. He cares deeply for them both and he can't seem to distract himself from that. Lily and Jared are a HEA just waiting to happen, but do they have a chance? The resistance fighters are gearing up for a fight could have deviststing results.
Great story, great series. Lily Tyner is one of many survivors on Earth after an apocalypse. Jared Estro is a medico from an alien race who is helping the survivors with food supplies etc. Jared is drawn to Lily from the first moment he sees her. He is fighting his feelings but after watching his brothers with their wives he feels it is his time to be happy. After Lily lost her husband and being in a bad relationship she is afrai to feel again. To put her trust in yet another man. And she has a son to consider. But there is something about Jared. He makes her feel wanted and safe. There is such a great sexual tension between them. And when they do come together it is explosive. Can Jared save Lily from what might be a tragedy and can Lily let go of her inhibitions and trust Jared? I would like a bit more drama though. This story concentrates on Lily and Jared mostly. But still a yet another fab story by KD Jones.
I received an ARC in return for an honest review. This is the second time I've read a Sci Fi Romance and I enjoyed it. KD Jones did a great job in bringing Jared Estro and Lily Tyner's story. Jared is a medico with The Drastans and Lily is a nurse. Lily, along with her son survived the apocalypse but not her husband. Jared and Lily tried to fight the attraction they have for each other. Lily was afraid to get into another relationship after getting out of a bad one. Jared is very attentive and caring to her son. Slowly but surely they came together in an explosive sexual encounter. I will have to go back to read the other stories of this series to understand about The Drastans.
This is the first book I've read in this series but I really enjoyed it. I thought Lily and Jared made an excellent couple. They had some really good chemistry. The secondary characters were also very interesting and added to the story while taking nothing away from the H/h. I recommend this story if you enjoy sci-fi romance. I plan to check out the first two books in the series as well. I received a copy in exchange for an honest opinion.
