Mojave Road Guide

Rate this book
From an Amazon reader "Extensively researched and informatively written this is a mile-by-mile account of the famous Mojave Road and how to drive it in your suitably-equipped 4WD vehicle. Excellent directions and carefully drawn maps direct the visitor to the hidden treasures along the way. You don't have to drive the whole trail to get the best from this book as each section of the trail can be accessed from other better roads. So next time you are in the East Mojave National Preserve drive a little of this old pack trail which was a well-used native american trading route long before the days of mules and covered wagons; the drive time will be longer but the rewards will be greater." Also, included is a well-used AAA map of Death Valley and Lake Mead.

Not only a guide to the 4x4 road, but also a history book of the Eastern Mojave. Worth the read, even if you're not interested in driving the road. There are tales of Zyzzx, the desert oasis turned health spa; Army forts that protected the few water sources in the Mojave; Government Holes, site of the 'last gun fight in the west'; and many more. As for the rest of the book, it is a turn by turn guide to the Mojave Road, including detailed maps with mileage and points of interest. You can't believe how many springs are in the Mojave Desert.
