“Ky’s a fighter. Blue’s an artist. But together they are truly magical.”

Ky’s fought his way to the boxing championship for the third time, but now the fight of his life isn’t against an opponent in the ring. He’s battling a darkness within himself that he can’t ignore and can’t control. If he fails, everything he’s spent his life working for will be gone, and he can’t see a path to victory. Only a hunch sends him looking for help in the most unusual places.

Blue’s a quiet guy, living for his family and the art of his tattoos. He’s created his shop, Blue’s Dungeon, to be a place for the celebration of art on skin—simple, friendly, and mostly uncomplicated—and Blue likes it that way.

But when Ky shows up in Blue’s tattoo studio, desperately searching for a lifeline, it’s the beginning of something magical for both men…

K-lee Klein grew up in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia and now lives only two hours away in Calgary, Alberta. Her life is blessed by three now-grown (but still spoiled) kids and an adorable grandson who calls her Gwaa Gwaa. She has a patient husband of over thirty years and spends her days being bossed around by a kitten named Poe, a senior feline called, Miss Chili, and a canine who thinks she's a princess, Chewie.

K-lee’s writing muse is terribly temperamental so to keep him close by and in-check, she had him inked on her left calf. Yet she still writes on his schedule and inspiration, and quite honestly, he can be a bit of a drama queen. K-lee writes mostly contemporary but has forayed into paranormal and urban fantasy, and her favorite tropes to write and read are hurt-comfort, friends to lovers, opposites attract, and relationships with children. Her biggest accomplishment as an author was overcoming all the hurdles to transition from publisher releases to her first self-published book.

Although K-lee considers herself to be an extroverted introvert and revels in her solitude, she very much enjoys traveling to conferences to meet up with friends old and new. She’s grateful for all the people in her life who accept her as she is and support her through the ups and downs as a mom, wife, friend, and joyfully obsessed writer.

2.5 stars. I have read and really enjoyed Klein’s writing before. So I was really looking forward to this ARC when I received it. But it didn’t QUITE reach up to what it was trying to accomplish. The story itself had the backbone to be good. I will say that what it was lacking was that overall polishing that makes a decent or good story into a GREAT story. The beginning didn’t start with the bang I was looking for. It didn’t grab me at all. Ky and Blue start off with a no-strings-attached sexual encounter(s) that are all a bit awkward. Their dialogue (and even the internal alternating thoughts) were stilted, and even the sex was awkward. For example:

"Ky was like a puzzle, a beautiful picture you’re just on the verge of completing, before discovering some asshole had lost or taken a piece."

The phrase started off well, but final execution fell pretty flat……..

There were other awkward and/or unbelievable moments. One where they had just climaxed, pants were still around their ankles, they slid to the floor, and both fell asleep right there. Really? Because that happens? Two people fall asleep on hard floors with their pants still around their ankles? Bare-assed?

And another part where a friend, Oli’s, “talent” or “gift” is described as genuinely caring about other people. ???? Don’t most of us? I genuinely care about other people, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a talent or a gift. I can tell by further description later that something else was meant entirely, but that’s not the way this particular description was worded. It was very clearly worded this exact way in this part of the book.

"His eyes shone with honesty, the tiny crinkles in the corners telling Ky he was being truthful."

Crinkles in the corners of eyes can show honesty? Hmmmmmmmm.

"…he trusted Ky more than double anyone else he’d ever had in his life."

More than double? Is that really measurable? Wish I could’ve just read “so much more than” or something like that. It just reads so awkwardly……

There were quite a few of these types of descriptions throughout the book – I highlighted over 10 of them – and I just couldn’t get past that many of them. One, or even two, I can get past as a reader. But that many were too glaringly obvious that this story has not been polished at all. Klein can write better than this. I’ve seen it in action. I’m hoping, since this is an ARC without an official release date, that some of the editing hasn’t taken place, and that a lot of clean up can happen. I can appreciate that if it’s the case.

The relationship/love story itself did develop past the initial awkward stage for me, and I did begin to like them more as a couple. And there is a setup for future books with other secondary characters from the book.

4.5 stars.

I really enjoy K-lee Klein's books and her writing. Everything of hers I've read so far has been really good and I always look forward to hearing she has more books coming out.

Moonstone is a nice story about Kye, a boxer and Blue, a tattoo artist. There is a connection between them almost straight away and it leads to a sexy encounter in Blue's shop.

There is a magical element to the story that was enjoyable and that was pretty different from everything else I've read before.

The secondary characters were great. Especially Blue's mother. She was accepting and loving and the total opposite to Kye's mother, who died when he was a child.

I'm really glad this is the first book in a series because I'd love to see more of these characters.

***I'm a terrible reviewer...but here we go again anyway***

I LOVED this book!

I read a lot of paranormal books and this one was completely different and fresh.
Blue is a tattoo artist. Ky is a boxer. But they are so much more than that. I loved their interaction from the start. They got to the sexy times pretty quick, which was a pleasant surprise. ;-)
Blue has an overwhelming urge to help Ky...and boy, does Ky need it.

This story was the perfect blend of sexy and romantic!

I absolutely loved the side characters as well. They really got me excited for the rest of the books in the series. I'm dying to see how the Michael and Dart story plays out.

I'm feeling an overwhelming urge to fangirl really hard right now and just blurt out the whole story so I'll end my review here.

This was the first book I’d read by this author. I was pleasantly surprised.

This story had so much more going on than I had expected. It’s a sweet love story between Blue-a clever tattoo artist-and Ky-a loner who’s had a rough life, and is making his living as a boxer.

Ky needs all kinds of help. And Blue, who holds secrets close to the vest, is just the man to help him.

A must-read for readers who love magical romances and hurt/comfort.

Moonstone is the first book in the new Stone Magic series by K-lee Klein. While set in the modern world as we know it, there is more than human activity afoot in this swift moving story. Filled with some very interesting secondary characters, each with carefully guarded secrets, the introduction of the cast that will make up future installments was done masterfully. So often, initial novels in a series are rather clunky with the job of establishing the arc of future stories and teasing the reader with just enough information about each person that the plot gets bogged down and you feel as though you have just been given a major glut of data. Instead, Klein manages to unfold the character base for her series by intertwining her the men and introducing them as a close knit group of friends and thus they become a piece of the pattern of Blue’s daily life and a source of care and comfort for him and each other.

I really wanted to like this more but aside from the sweet awkward romance between Blue and Ky, I found I had more dilikes than likes. I didn’t care for the pacing of the story. It kind of drags for most of the first half and then picks up speed in a race to the HFN ending. I had read the reviews and was originally confused by those that referred to this as a paranormal romance because I couldn’t understand the paranormal part. Then, at about a third of the way into the story, the paranormal is finally revealed, but we get no world-building or any satisfying explanations of what the curse is about and what do the four different stones mean. And for all that’s hyped about Ky’s big fight, the whole thing is rather anticlimactic.
The supporting cast of Blue’s friends are interesting and clearly there is a set-up for the rest of the Stone Magic series, which sadly doesn’t seem to be coming. This was first published in 2015 and six plus years later, it’s still a one-book series.
The writing and editing could use some improvement. There is a tendency towards over-description and it gets very repetitive. The occasional grammatical error pops up throughout and quite a few occasions where names were mixed up; mostly Ky’s name used when the context was clearly meaning Blue.

I Leave this book with a review of no stars and a 'dnf', because I guess I was missing a rather big chunk of the book. It just ended a paragraph with the 2 Mc's first meeting IRL coming to an end, and BANG I'm in the middle of a sentence that follows into a scene that clearly can't have been the following scene.

So I can't give this a fair rating.

I really enjoyed this story. It starts with Ky who is going to get a tattoo, but is clearly unsure of doing so and the place that he's going to have it done. The Warehouse is a huge place with a group of people who work and in some cases, live there as well. They're an eclectic group that you get to know slowly, but not in a lot of detail. I'm guessing we'll learn more in future books.

Ky meets Blue, the tattoo artist and things aren't ever going to be the same for either man. I really don't want to spoil the story, not even a little bit. I think that reading it and learning what's going on as the story progressed is what made this story work for me. The mystery surrounding Blue and Ky builds slowly and then things become more interesting and open.

It's hard not to feel for Ky. Losing his mother young and being placed in the system where he was bullied had to be hard. Blue has his own pain from the past and the present as well. Yet, they work together so well. Ky is can be a bit moody, but we see why eventually and can forgive him just as Blue does.

I hope that K-lee Klein plans on writing stories about the rest of the group from the warehouse. I'm very curious about Micheal and Dart at the moment.

I really loved this story. I also suck at reviews but the intensity of Ky and Blue's connection, their humor and backstory completely pulled me in. Afterward, I kept thinking of them and the wonderful characters who also work, create and live at the Warehouse. Another wonderful story from K-lee Klein and the beginning of another great series.

I enjoyed this, although I almost gave up on it when I was about 20% into it because I wasn't sure when things were going to pick up, or if they even were. They did finally, and I enjoyed the second half of the book, but I still felt a bit disconnected from the story and the characters. Still, I think the other characters were interesting, and I would definitely read about Dart and Michael.

An interesting take on the paranormal/shifter verse, but I thought the story dragged on.
