What a great read. This is a really good time travel romance. Story is excellent and such well developed characters, really strong you can't help but get drawn in. Also the unusual twist in the time travel was very well done. Can't wait for the second one to come out. Well recommended an excellent read.
What can I say except Kathryn Kelly has found a new fan. I loved Twist of Fate! I've never read a time travel book before because I wasn't sure I would like that genre. I now have a new genre to add to my favorites. The story line was great, a romance mystery with a twist. I loved the relationship between Erika and Charles. This story took me on an emotional roller coaster and I loved every minute of it. This is a well written story with well crafted characters for each time period. This is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more of her books. I am volunteering to leave a review for a free copy of this book.
Overwrought and amateurish writing. I liked the underlying premise, but it could have been so much better. Our heroine was on the brink of a professional career, but wound up weeping and collapsing in tears over and over. Our hero was initially portrayed as cocky and confident, and then became concerned and tolerant of all things. The action in the book was repetitive as there were misunderstandings between this woman and that woman. And then the "twist" at the end regarding the woman who tried to kill the heroine's grandfather twice. Very disappointing. It's not the worst thing I've ever read, but it's very simplistic and not well developed. I won't be reading the rest of the series.
Too many things are left unexplained. A big deal is made of both the clock key and the cameo and it's implied that each of them is the key to travelling through time. And that's it, nothing more is explained about either item so apparently they weren't actually important after all.
Early in the book there are several implications that the mmc is not a nice guy, there's even a comment that he isn't allowed to live in the house with his sister. And that's the end of that, nothing more is said about why he isn't a nice guy.
Same goes for Elizabeth, it's hinted at several times that there's something behind her attitude. Nope, apparently she's just a nasty bitch with loose morals.
What about the man Erika saw in her time? Was it Charles? Was it Christopher? Was it the postman? Sorry, we never get told who it was. Speaking of Christopher, why did he leave? Why did he stay away for 2 years and let his family think he was dead? Why did he suddenly come back with a wife and child at the end of the book? What was the deal with him and Elizabeth?
What about Charles best friend Albert? Why does he look at Charles with hatred? What does he have against Erika?
Sorry folks, the answers to these and any other questions you have will never be revealed.
This had the makings of a great story but it all just fizzled. Both mcs started out strong but the fmc quickly turned into a milksop and the mmc never became even likeable. Throw in the modern words that were used and the spelling and grammar mistakes (and sentences that didn't make sense) and there are lots of better things to read.
This book was just what I needed. It was suspenseful, and a number of characters had compelling personalities. I’ve read time travel books before, but the manner in which time travel was conceived in this book was unique. I found it curious why the author created Erika to be a veterinarian, but didn’t do much with that talent. And the brooch seemed to have something to do with the time travel, but then it seemed as if it was due to the clock key, so I was confused when neither seemed to have anything to do with it after all. There were rules to dueling, which weren’t always followed, but when Albert took a shot at Charles in the manner in which he did, the author didn’t have the Seconds even react, as if it was fine with them. But at the start of the duel, the Seconds seemed to be honorable men. So, I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. But 4 is a rating high enough that others wouldn’t dismiss this book.

I really enjoyed it - it starts off with how the "gift"was given - an Indian massacre- the Indian warns the initial time traveler- that her descendants might have this happen to them that there was no guarantee where it would end. Fast forward to present day, the granddaughter travels through time falls in love in the past, meets her grandmother (the initial time traveler). The granddaughter can go from the present to the past to the present to the past- then she decides to stay in the past. I don't know how the other books are.
I read this book all I one cloudy afternoon. I am a reader of civil war fiction and enjoyed this book eminently. This story made me cry and cheer for Charles and his family. The ending was a complete surprise much to my enjoyment. Please ignore the spelling errors as I don't seem to know how to use spell check, thank you for giving me this chance to go back to 1837.
I totally love this author this was the first book I read by Kathryn Kelly and it won't be the last. If you love romance with out the R rating then you will love this story. Not only was the story line wonderfully written but it was so clean I could let my 12 year old read it. The way Kathryn wove the past and the present together was wonderful. I wouldn't have put it down if my 3 kids and husband would have left me to read lol.
Am I the only one who is having trouble with the familial relationship between the love interests in this book?
I literally couldn’t get into the love story of a girl and her ancestor. It was in my mind the entire time I read. The only reason I kept reading was to see if their family tree would be explained in some way eventually, but nope. The lack of detail and plot holes also made the story confusing and hard to connect with.
It was very well written and I love time travel stories,I recommend it highly, I couldn't stop reading till the very end! I will definitely reading more of this author's work again!
An unexpected approach to the time travel starting in the 1700 with one woman effecting later generations. It's a great start to this series. Interesting and very well written.
DNF. Could barely get through the first quarter of the book and finally gave up. Love a good time travel, but this one bounced around way too much, with what seemed like dozens of characters popping up within the first 30 pages. Maybe for some. Not for me.
If a book can make you cry and laugh it is then a great read. That is this book. A few corrections, but great story with a few twist. Look forward to the next book.
Normally time travel book aren't really my thing, but I was looking for a book outside my normal genre and the book summary was very eye catching. the author really added a lot of detail about the time period (1830s) to were Erika travels to the past. over all very enjoyable book and I will be reading the other books in this series.
