Ron Roy has been writing books for children since 1974. He is the author of dozens of books, including the popular A to Z Mysteries®, Calendar Mysteries, and Capital Mysteries. When not working on a new book, Ron likes to teach tricks to his dog Pal, play poker with friends, travel, and read thrilling mystery books.
I wanted to read one of the Capital Mysteries by Ron Roy because my friend's cousin, Timothy Bush, is the illustrator. What better volume to choose than "The Election Day Disaster" in light of the contentious election we are currently experiencing? The plot itself is highly unlikely, but the book level is 4 so I'll allow it. I anticipated that I would be inspired to read the whole series, but I think this was enough for me.
I did learn something new in the "Did You Know?" section at the end. George Washington was indeed elected, but very few people had voted. However, George won every single vote that was cast in both 1789 and 1792.
At the Halloween party at the White House everything goes as planned, so everyone thinks. The next day there are photos circulating on the news and the internet of the President pranking kids at the Halloween party. Just weeks before the election and his numbers are sliding. Who put up those fake photos? Can KC and Marshall solve this mystery before election day? And who is this green octopus figure roaming around at the party?
This time the mystery involved crazy internet pictures, an octopus costume, and an election. This is an awesome combination. These are fun mysteries. Posted pictures cause Big trouble for the big chief In election polls.
It is almost Halloween and KC and Marshall are going to have a party for Halloween. When the party starts they see a stange costume and they don't know who it is. They find out that he is taking picture to make the president look bad. The election day was almost there. KC didn't want to have to leave the White House so she and Marshall tried to find out who did it. They found out it was a security guard who was just taking pictures and sending them to his friends but they got on the internet and made the president look bad. The president wins and KC gets to stay in the White House for another 4 years. This is an ok book.
This is another suspensful story in the Capital Mysteries series. Our girls have really enjoyed this series and we look forward to reading more together. The tales aren't all that realistic, but this one demonstrates the dangers of sharing files online and how pictures can be easily manipulated nowadays.
