Cady Adams has had a crush on Dex McCoy since high school, but her ambitions were always bigger than the small Montana town they grew up in. In the years after, Cady headed to California and Dex ended up drifting from one job to another all over the US.

But when the rug is pulled from under her feet, Cady comes home to establish her business, Cady’s Cakes. What she doesn't know is a family tragedy has pulled Dex home, too, and he's taken a new job as a smokejumper.

Will they finally give in to what’s been burning between them for so long? Is the timing right to find out the dreamer and the drifter are really perfect for each other?

Flame is the fifth instalment and a wonderful conclusion to the Firefighter’s of Montana series, all written by different authors, and all new to me except for Victoria Purman.

Dex McCoy is a super likeable character, a caring uncle and a rookie smokejumper.

Cady Adams is the successful owner of Cady’s Cakes and a place Dex has avoided. Why? Does he not like her sumptuous cupcakes? or has it something to do with his crush on Cady since forever? Read this fun book to find out, better yet read all 5 books, you won’t be sorry.

Absolutely adored the side story featuring Dex’s niece, Lila. So cute.

A splendid and heart warming tale.

This is the fifth and last book in this series and again I loved it sensual fast paced and it was a fabulous story to read.

Dex McCoy has moved back to his hometown of Glacier Creek, Montana after being away for months doing a smokejumper exchange he is still known as the rookie on the team but he is really good at his job and has learnt a lot over the past few months, he is gorgeous single and has no plans to change his single status his brother and his sister in law and their little girl Lila live on the family ranch and Dex does everything he can to help them after Lila was hurt in an accident but when he runs into Cady Adams a spark starts up again after many years are they destined to be together?

Cady Adams has lived all of her life in Glacier Creek and after going off to California to go to a culinary institute and learn to bake the best cakes and pies in the land she is back in town now but there was one thing she wanted before she left and it had a lot to do with Dex McCoy but she left without getting it so when she runs into Dex there is a lot of water under the bridge between them and feeling that emotion between them flying from the pages is awesome.

Who doesn't love a firefighter and Dex has a few issues that need to be resolved and Cady is just the person to help him truly they are so made for each other the journey to a HEA is filled with ups and downs but is sensual and very moving. I do highly recommend this one MS Purman will pull you in and have you smiling of course it was fabulous catching up with friends from the previous books and the cup cakes that Cady makes well I want them all :)

It can definitely be read as a standalone. However, it would be easier to get into if the entire series is read.

This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

There are times Dex has to rephrase things because the man gets it wrong the first time, “no, that’s not what I meant. I’m not saying I want you to go. I’m saying you should come wait inside while I take a shower. And then I’ll get you a beer. Okay?” I liked this book, Dex was a real great guy, and Cady had a big heart

Flame is the 5th book in a Tule Publishing series about the highly-trained, highly-skilled and courageous firefighters of mountainous Montana. I haven’t read any of the other volumes, I only grabbed this one because otherwise it would be the only one of Purman’s books I hadn’t reviewed.

This is a beautiful story of high school crushes carrying their feelings around for years in a case of extreme bad timing until finally finding the right time.

Being a novella this is quite a short read which means making sure all of the important backstory is included but leaving out the superfluous details. We get glimpses into the teenagers that went to high school together but only in the relevant settings. We don’t get to know the teens, except in their infrequent dealings with each other.

Dex McCoy was the popular kid at high school who lost his mother and then hightailed out of town as soon as he could; returning only for brief visits to see the family as he travelled the country gaining skills and experience. Eventually home calls to him after a family tragedy and he finally lays down roots in his childhood home town.

Cady Adams was a studious teen with big dreams to get out of her small home town of Glacier Creek so she scrimped and saved to get to culinary school in California. The loss of her mother and grandmother sees her struggling so the dream changes, instead of a cake shop in California she decides she wants to open it in her home town.

Years after school, years after their last interaction, and they are both back in their home town. It seems that everyone in town can see they are well matched and want to know why they have never dated, which is cute and small towny.

Flame is set in Montana, far from Purman’s hometown of Adelaide, so I can image there was quite a bit of research into both the Montana landscape and the smokejumpers. This is a career path I have never heard of.

Smokejumpers are highly trained and highly skilled firefighters who parachute into heavily forested mountain areas to fight raging bushfires. They are gone for days at a time, out of contact and often stuck in heavily forested areas with no vehicle access. A career that could definitely be classified high risk but which attracts loyal and dedicated firefighters.

Purman explores some of the risks of the job as well as the fears faced by the partners left behind. The stress and concern of going on with life while your loved one is on a mountain and out of contact. The more I’m thinking about it, the more it seems like a fear that would be understood by partners of firefighters and police officers everywhere.

It looks like Cady and Dex may have finally found their timing but Cady has already lost so much… she has no family but a close knit group of girlfriends and the small town community is very close; though would that be enough to keep her moving if she was to suffer another loss? Cady is not so sure.

Dex is no stranger to loss either and he has come home to help out with his aging father and his precious niece who suffered a tragic accident. It is the way he has been there for his family that shows the true depth of the man. He has always been a drifter, but he never had the pull to bring him home before.

Flame is a sweet little story that incorporates a lot of heartbreak and a lot of loss. Purman has captured the emotional rollercoaster for those left behind and written a captivating addition to the Firefighters of Montana series. We meet the characters who took the lead in the other volumes and there is definitely a part of me that wants to go read all of their stories, and see what else I can learn about Dex and Cady from the other authors involved in the series.

It had been ten years since Cady Adams had drunkenly thrown herself at her high school crush, Dex McCoy. Not wanting to start college as a virgin, Cady had wanted Dex to be her first; he had instead rejected her, unwilling to take advantage of an intoxicated woman. Ten years later, Cady and Dex meet again when Dex walks into Cady’s cake shop to pick up an order for his fire-fighting team at Glacier Creek’s forestry service. Cady is still furious that Dex had rejected her all those years ago, but when she learns of the reason he had not taken advantage of her that day, her heart slowly melts and the wall she had built around herself starts to fade. Cady and Dex start getting to know one another again, until Cady's nightmares of losing him in a fire cause her to abruptly end their romance. Unwilling to give up on their love, Dex is determined to fight for Cady's heart until his dying breath.

Victoria Purman’s tale of misunderstandings in love, anger and grudges, leading to an incredible romance, is one that I will be reading again and again. All of the favorite characters from previous books in the Firefighters of Montana series are cleverly written into the story, including an anniversary memorial which brought a tear to my eye. I was amused, yet not surprised, that an intoxicated person had only remembered half of what had happened all those years ago and had held on to her hostile feelings for so long. A large array of emotions were touched upon in this incredible read, which is a cocktail of love, humor, tragedy, action, suspense and romance. Having read all of the books in the series, each one from a different author, I was impressed to see that the continuity of each of the characters remained intact. Flame carries action and suspense at every turn of the page, leaving the reader wanting more and more. I recommend this book to those who enjoy incredible love stories which make you laugh and cry at the same time, and I look forward to the next book in the Firefighters of Montana series.

4.5 Stars!! to "Flame" Firefighters Of Montana Book Five by Victoria Purman........

"Flame" is the last book in the Firefighters of Montana series. I'm sorry to see it end because I have enjoyed this series, as well as the sexy Hot Shot smokejumpers!

This is Cady and Dex's story. Back during high school Cady had a serious crush on Dex but when she made her feelings known, due to a misunderstanding, she was rejected and embarrassed. Shortly after, Cady left town to pursue her dreams of being a baker leaving her broken heart behind. Years passed and she moved back home and opened her own bakery in town. Cady is still embarrassed by what happened with Dex those years ago and is thankful that he never comes into her bakery. If she was truthful with herself she could admit she was a little sad by that too.

Dex is a smokejumper and finds himself back in town working for the Hot Shots firefighters. He is aware that Cady is back in town but purposely keeps his distance. Dex always wanted Cady but it didn't work out how he would like. Even all these years later the attraction is there but he still avoids her.

Can Dex risk loosing out on a second chance with Cady? Will Cady take another chance at being rejected? Will they both realize that their hearts belong to each other?

I loved both Cady and Dex. The author did a great job with detailing and bringing fourth a believable and realistic story with a steady pace and sweet HEA.

Cady Adams of Cady’s Cakes on Main Street, Glacier Creek.
It wasn’t a long way from Missoula to Dex McCoy’s hometown of Glacier Creek, Montana. Only two and a bit hours, if he took the most direct way.
But when the rug is pulled from under her feet, Cady comes home to establish her business, Cady’s Cakes. What she doesn’t know is a family tragedy has pulled Dex home, too, and he’s taken a new job as a smokejumper.

I hate to see this series end. I have really enjoyed the smokejumper stories. Cady had a crush on Dex back in high school. They both left Montana to follow their dreams. Years later circumstances find them back in Montana. Cady owns a bakery, Cady Cakes and Dex is a smoke jumper. They both knew the other was in town but they were keeping their distance. Cady threw herself at him once, long ago on the eve of her leaving town. She felt rejected and now the thought of seeing him makes her want to run the other way. Dex is fiercely attracted to Cady. He has always tried to do the right thing by her. He avoids her because she pushes his control to the limits. When they end up seeing each other sparks fly. Neither of them is looking for a relationship or someone to worry about. She needs a man that is grounded and who will stay in Montana. He needs a woman to love and miss him while is off on a jump. Can these two get past their own hang ups to give love a shot? Great read!

I loved the "Firefighters of Montana" series. Dex and Cady's story is the last story in this series. Their story is sweet and sizzling! Get cozy and enjoy!

"Flame" by Victoria Purman is book five in the "Firefighters of Montana" series. This is Cady Adams and Dex McCoy's story.

Cady is back in Glacier Creek running her business Cady's Cakes. She has had a crush on Dex since high school. After high school, Cady went off to CA to attend culinary school and Dex left town and moved from job to job. Their timing just never was right.

Dex is back in Glacier Creek due to a family tragedy. He took a job as a smokejumper so he could be near his family.

Now, they both are back in Glacier Creek. When Dex and Cady's paths cross there are definitely sparks flying between them. Will the timing be right this time around for Cady and Dex?

FYI, includes mature content. I received a copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review.

Another steamy hot Firefighters of Montana story.

When Cady Adams returns to Glacier Creek, she has no idea her high school crush Dex McCoy has returned as well. In the past, their timing was never right. They both had plans of leaving Montana as soon as they could.

After school, Cady moved to California to go to culinary school. She is home again and has established her own bakery, Cady's Cakes.

Dex spent his years traveling from one place to the next taking on different jobs. He is now back home and found working as a smokejumper is his calling.

Now that Cady and Dex are both in the same town again, will they finally get their happily ever after?

This book was very well detailed and you could tell the author did a lot of research to make the story believable. I hate to see this series come to an end.

Cady and Dex have known each other since HS and their timing has always been off. One drunken kiss and a misunderstanding have kept them apart but finally they are in the same place and maybe they can see if there can be something between them. this was a story of hope and new beginnings. Cady may have been afraid to love and wanted to protect her heart but she knew if she wanted to be with him she would have to take the risk. The risk can be worth it and I'm glad she realized it. His little niece is an inspiration to live your life and not hide from it.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. They each gave a good look into the life of a smokejumper and how they try to fit a personal/love life with it. Takes a special someone to realize that they have big hearts and can try and do it all.

Book 5 in the Firefighters of Montana series, Flame is another great weekend read, and like the other four in this series it stands alone well.
I was particularly amazed at the amount of research Australian author Victoria Purman must have done in order to so accurately describe the lives and experience of smokejumpers dealing with wild fires. We have bushfires here too, but nothing like these infernos that seem to hit north America so regularly.
This book is not, however, a treatise on the life of a smokejumper. Rather it is a really entertaining love story packed into a novella sized parcel. It also examines the walls that we put up around ourselves when life hasn't treated us right in the past. In the cases of Dex and Cady, it was fun watching them chip away at each other's walls until they reached their inevitable happy ever after and, of course, it was a darned good read.

Dex has always been a drifter, trying out different jobs, figuring out who he is. Cady has always known what she wants from her life. To own her own bakery and Dex McCoy. But her shy nature has always prevented her from telling Dex about how she feels. One drink too many, a bad attempt at seduction and rejection from Dex in the past, has made her wary. As for Dex he's never thought he was good enough for Cady, even though she's the only girl he's ever dreamed about.

Even though Dex is back home, Cady is scared of being left alone. Trusting him to be there for her is going to tough considering he's always going off to do something else. Dex just wants her to give him a chance to prove that he'll be right where she needs him to be.

Cady Adams and Dex McCoy knew each other in high school. Not much of a past for them as they didn’t date, however, both wish they had. Now Cady and Dex are back in Glacier Creek. Cady can’t understand why Dex seems to be avoiding her sweets shop, Cady’s Cakes. She can’t imagine it has something to do with the kiss they shared years prior, can it? When Dex and Cady finally start talking, she realizes just how wrong she was. Could this be her second chance to be with the guy she has loved since high school or will Dex being a smokejumper squash her idea of happiness?

I really enjoyed this book. Flame was a great addition to the smokejumper series. Definitely recommending this group of stories to be placed on your to-read list!

This is the final story in this series centered around a group of smokejumpers in Montana and what a great way to wrap things up! There's always been a sizzling attraction between Dex McCoy and Cady Adams. What has never been right is timing. Years ago he had big plans of leaving Montana for good and he did. Spending the time drifting from place to place. Cady had her own plans, heading to California and culinary school expecting to make it big! Now they find themselves back in Montana with the fire still burning bright between them. Is this their time or will he get wanderlust again??

You want to grab this one and find out. I highly recommend it.

Dex and Cady shared a kiss 4 years ago before Cady left town for culinary school. Now that they are both back in Montana, memories from that night have Dex avoiding Cady, but not for the reasons that she may think. They definitely have different recollections about that brief encounter.

I enjoyed reading about the backstory of Dex and Cady and their journeys that led them back to Montana. I really loved the Firefighters of Montana series. I wish there were more books to follow.

This was a great conclusion to the Firefighters series.
Dex and Cady had known each other since high school, but their timing was always off. I loved the chemistry between the two of them. And the way Dex is with his niece just made my heart melt. They were both very likable characters and I really liked that there wasn't a lot of unnecessary drama between them. There were bumps in the road, but nothing over the top. And as a side note, I got really hungry reading about the cupcakes from Cady's Cakes.

Cady Adams has liked Dex McCoy since high school. The night before Cady is set to leave for School in California they have a run in that leaves Cady feeling rejected. Years later they are back in Glacier Creek. After a trick meeting between the two the sparks are flying again. The problem is Dex is a smoke jumper who doesn't like cakes which happens to be Cady's passion. Can Cady move past Dex's profession and will Dex learn to like cakes?
This was the perfect ending to a great series! I really liked this book. It kept me interested until the very end.

It seems that I started with the last book, #5, in the Firefighters of Montana series to read first. So without a doubt I can say that Flame by Victoria Purman reads very well on its own. The other couples especially the female part of the couples are mentioned in this book but it only serves to make you want to read their stories. I liked this couple of Dex and Cady who are Montana born and breed. Theirs is a sweet story with a wonderful side second story of Dex’s niece’s recovery after a fall.

The characters are likable with no true villains unless you count the wildfires that start up on a regular basis in the novella. As for pacing the plot is mostly okay. I felt a couple of times it was choppy, especially since I didn’t see why these two had trouble connecting. It was never clear to me why Dex wouldn’t ask Cady out instead avoiding her. The past didn’t seem strong enough to warrant such a reaction from Dex, who was a great son, brother and phenomenal uncle. Still I liked the characters who were hard working, loyal and just good people so it made reading their story worthwhile.

The last of the series and I'm sad. I will miss these characters a lot.

I would have liked for Cady to get some sort of counselling for her nightmares. (Why did none of her friends notice this? Why didn't Dex, for that matter?)

Lila was cute, but her voice fluctuated between 6 and 10. And you can't tell me that Dex wouldn't have remembered the name of a movie that he's supposedly watched dozens of times with his niece. Or that Cady would decorate a cupcake without knowing details about the movie it's based on. Nobody thinks it's cute to hint multiple time at Frozen without actually mentioning it. I could see a one-off, but not repeatedly.

Still, it was a quick read. And enjoyable, though it could have been longer and I would have been even more pleased.

I purchased a copy of the steamy novel Flame: A Firefighters of Montana Romance Book 5 by Victoria Purman and this review was given freely.
A second chance at love romance with vivid descriptions, a caring uncle and a steamy love story. A year after Russ's death and Sam's becoming Captain, prior high school friends, smokejumper Dex McCoy and his first love the owner of Cady's Cakes bakery, Cady Adams return to their hometown of Glacier Creek, Montana and starting their dream jobs but have a hard time moving past an awkward encounter and panic attacks.

I wish it had been longer.

Loved this series of firefighter series. I wish there were more, they were longer. And a few I wished had a danger or bigger conflict in them. And an epilogue for them all.
But that's because they ended too soon. I wanted more of Cady, Dex, Lily and the rest. We did get some previous characters interacting which was fun. And the fact that *spoiler* Dex gave her the idea for the name but wish she had remembered that. And Lily was a sweetheart! We could've used more Lily.
I will probably reread the series. And I discovered some fun authors.
