I wish I had not wasted my money, not a good book by this author. Well I started off feeling sorry for Bella but as the book progressed I just did not like her. AT ALL. Bella was supposed to be an attorney working for one of the top firms in the country. She was sexually harassed at work by a client and basically fired for not putting out. Good girl. Smart getting away from a potential rapist. But then she calls her very cold cruel father to let her stay with him for a short time. She spends two weeks with her father who did not even want her there and she does nothing to help herself. Does not look for a job, nothing. She then ends up working at the main house but she was insincere, ungrateful, unethical and basically a thief. She accepted money from Rodney to not tell he was stealing from their boss. Not cool. She bemoans her fate when she gets caught with the cash. For example - "She had technically aided and abetted Rodney. Bella was too angry to read and too sad to leave. She felt a great rage at all the men in her life who misjudged her, who blamed her for their own faults, or who saw her only as an object to be toyed with. She should have called someone. Reached out to old friends on Facebook or Twitter or Snapchat. She should have done something. Instead she stewed, marinated in her own dark feelings for days on end." Really, this from a lawyer, someone who had to work their guts out in college to get to be a lawyer. What a waste of space she is. Then when her would be rapist shows up she does nothing but shows him around the house. Weird, I would have been kneeing him in the right place. The ending was just too strange and too twee to be real. Hunters turn up, Bella loves Dorian and does everything to save him. Forgives him, (he is still apologising for some reason). Where was the build-up, the getting to know each other? One picnic and a couple of days working together does not a relationship make. Then he just chases the hunters off, doesn’t kill anyone, I am sure they will not come back with reinforcements. This story just keeps getting sillier. Dorian was intriguing and far too good for Bella. Why was he apologising to her, he did nothing wrong except have these mad rages he could not control. HE WAS CURSED. Bella leaves Chloe locked up in the skull den whilst she has sex for two days with Dorian. Luckily Chloe was able to get out with some interesting help. Please don’t be my friend. Sheesh. What a pity he ends up with her. This whole book was weird and not enjoyable to me in any way apart from Chloe who was the best character in this book. I have read and enjoyed other books by this author way better than this one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I've read this author before; I'm surprised at how little I liked this story. Chloe is an interesting supporting character, but the leads are disappointing. The "Beauty and the Beast" aspect is clumsy, and Bella lacks integrity and backbone. Dorian is a bit lacking for a shifter, as well. There are too many random details that could have added interest if they had been developed (Franklin's behavior and the multiple spooky trophy rooms, for example). This could have been a good read...such a pity.
This story features; BELLA, a curvaceous, clever lawyer, audacious beauty; LORD DORIAN WINTERBORN, heart-stirring, sultry powerful dragon shifter.
What you'll find in this story; remarkably impressive and engaging characters, spectacular story-line, picturesque and dynamic scene descriptions, phenomenal banter, camaraderie, action, a bit of drama, gripping suspense, secrets that lie deep within the walls of Winter’s Breath, emotions spiral, life threatening moments, earth-shattering jaw-dropping heart-pounding sensual romance, and a melt your heart conclusion leaving you wanting more.
Bella finds herself in an extremely precarious situation when she is let go from her job the cause not her own; now homeless she begs her dad for shelter. Her dad lives in Bearfield on the grounds of Winter’s Breath. Bella's dad informs her that under no circumstances is she to leave the confines of his home as the Lord loathes unannounced visitors. One night when she believes everyone to be asleep she ventures out on her own running smack into the Lord who is enraged at the sight of her. Dorian believes she is a thief and threatens her life, then changes his mind and makes her work for him. Dorian has been cursed, a curse that causes explosive violent rages making anyone around him cringe in horror; when not enraged he is kind and humorous. Nightmares of Dorian’s displays of anger plague Bella, but still she is drawn to him not understanding why. Dorian must find a way to break the curse, save his failing estate, and protect Bella from the horrific danger that threatens to destroy all he holds dear....
WOW/FANTASTIC-fast paced well written imaginative read by a truly gifted author. The story has you hooked from the beginning as the characters spring to life with the intriguing plot, action, scenes that leave you breathless, and awesome dialogue. The author does an incredible job with Dorian’s split personality; I also loved his humble and gallant hero persona. Bella is strong and fearless. The romance sizzles and filled with unwavering devotion. This was joy to read and very entertaining. If you treasure shifter romance this is a terrific book for your library. {I was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review}. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I recommend this book.
This was an excellent, well-written, exciting story to read, which I enjoyed immensely. After 3-years at Black, Cross and Landon, Bella was beginning to feel like a prisoner; even with all her perks, the job was a drain on her youth, life and vitality. Refusing the advances of Charles Edward Heath results in the loss of her job and Bella has only one person she can call on for help, a person she has resolved to never ask for anything – her father, Franklin. Her father has a new life, a new job. It is all very mysterious and he refuses to give her any details other than he is a groundskeeper for a wealthy recluse; she could stay with her father, but there would be rules. When Bella breaks those rules, she exposes herself to Dorian’s cruel temper and is forced to pay off her debt. Bella forms a friendship with Chloe, a cook that interacts with ghosts, and Rodney, a seducer and thief. The estate is in peril and Dorian is cursed, but as the two spend more time with each other, it becomes clear that Bella is a calming influence on Dorian. That is until the prospective buyer for the estate turns up, and is none other than Charles Edward Heath. When Charles attacks Bella, Dorian goes berserk and Bella once again witnesses his rage, tantrums and anger. Dorian asks Bella for forgiveness – how can she not forgive him when she loves him – so what a surprise it is when her compassion shatters the curse binding Dorian. The key he has been looking for is Bella, she has always been the key because she is his one true mate. But Bella has freed Dorian from one set of chains only to replace them with another, those tying him to her. Love was a chain that bound them inextricably together but it wasn’t a curse, it was a blessing. I really enjoyed this story; it was very heartfelt and warming and I would have no hesitation in recommending it. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Never did I ever think that this story would turn out the way it did, i have to be honest this is one story I don't want to indulge too much on this, because what I can tell you is this, that you would never have guessed that the heroin of this story is somewhat of a mystery. Bella was a top of the class student who aced her test to becoming a partner in a very busy but exclusive law firm. Until one day changed all of that, she had lost her job and was told to leave her clothes except the ones she arrived in, her apartment that very night. Knowing that she could not turn to anyone else she had no other option but to return to estranged father, who happens to be working for Lord Dorian Winterbourn.
It is here when things become somewhat of a mystery to Bella and leaves her wondering if she had fallen in among people who were insane or just plane crazy. Dorian was her main concern he was a mystery to everyone and most of all his mood swings were worse than what she bargained for, the only thing is she couldn't explain why she was so attracted to him and why she was the only one who could smell burning cinnamon everytime his mood changed.
So what do you do when you are surrounded by a mood swinging lord, a cook who supposedly talks to ghosts and a thief for a butler. Oh let's not forget the estranged father who has been keeping a secret for many years and who turns out to be just as deceitful and cruel as the lord of manors father. This is a thriller you would not want to put down, okay so I'm being vague, but trust me Bella and Dorians story is worth the read.
Bella Hart was a smart lawyer who didn't realize that the firm that she worked for decided to offer her favors to a client without her actually knowing that it had nothing to do with business, so when the client comes in her office things go down hill fast and she leaves him standing in her office with his pants unzipped. The next day fines that she has been fired from the firm and her boss is their to get her out of the apartment along with everything she own's including underwear she let the firm provide it all she didn't even have a phone left but before the service was cut off her ex boss let her make a call she only had her dad to call be cause had not kept in touch with friends and so she only had her father she also knew he certainly didn't want her staying with him because he worked for the Lord of the Winter Breathe Estate Dorian Winterborn. The current Lord was the youngest of thirteen brothers and when their father died he cursed his younger son for the lies the older brothers told their father and it seems the older Winterborn was insane but there is lots more to this story that Bella is about to find out and that her father has played a part in the misery of the current Lord. Dorian is like Jeykel and Hyde on any given day and he has been told that he is dying and Bella is determine to try and help him but he does scare the daylights out of her on more than one occasion. his assistant and falls in love along the way. This is a lovely beauty and the beast story. I was given a copy for a honest review.
Title: Chained Series: Dragon's Heart Reckless Desire Destination: Book 1, 125 Pages, Author: Jacqueline Sweet Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Genre: #Paranormal #Dragonshifter My Score: 5 Stars ☆☆☆☆☆
♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡ Since I love dragons so much, I was really excited to start this book series Dragon's Heart. But it was slow for me at first that I had to reread because I was not sure I understood. It was a little frustrating, BUT I keep on truckin, then it was smooth sailing. Maybe I'm just the slow horse at the starting gate. Ms. Jacqueline has written a different kind of Dragon story. Which was new again for me, but just perfect. I really thought Chloe was very cute in a strange kind of way. Who knows more about the ghosts? Isabella Hart aka: Bella is a BBW lawyer, who worked for the firm Black, Cross and Landon, she lost her job because a client told her boss she threw herself at him, When it was the other way around he shouldn't have shown his family jewels. Lord Dorian Winterborn is a powerful dragon shifter with a powerful curse. This curse would change Dorian with no warning to a cruel nasty, ugly, violent man. Dorian must be acknowledged the curse and save his crumbling estate. But can he in time, he was desperately trying to no avail, he has I listed many Witches and Wizards to help. Will they all be on time? I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.
Setting: Bearfield, CA contemporary Genre: Paranormal shifter romance After getting fired from her high-powered job at a San Francisco law firm (for not putting out for a potential client), Bella Hart moves in with her dad, who is groundskeeper at a huge estate. Dorian Winterborn is the gorgeous, cursed heir to Winter's Breath. He is slowly going insane from the curse that keeps him from shifting into his dragon. When Bella calls her dad to beg him to let her stay with him, he reluctantly agrees on the condition that she stay inside the house he occupies as part of his job, and never wander the grounds. Of course, she can't stay cooped up forever, so when she slips out one night, she meets Dorian. The story is about how the relationship develops in spite of his curse. Both main characters are well-written. Both have depth, and interesting traits to add to the story. Secondary characters, especially Chloe, are interesting and likable. I found the plot, a kind of fairy tale, absorbing and easy to get lost in. It's part of Sweet's Bearfield series, but is a definite stand-alone. Chloe is the only character from another novella, but it isn't necessary to read that story to enjoy this one. Truly, this is a good reading experience.
I received an ARC of 'Chained' from Jacqueline Sweet, in exchange for an honest review.
I started this book, a little unsure just what was happening, but I quickly became intrigued with what was actually going on & couldn't wait to find out the answers. 'Chained' is book 1 of Jacqueline Sweet's new series "Dragon's Heart".
After unfairly being fired from the law firm she works for, Bella needs to find somewhere fast to live, calling up her father is the only choice Bella has. With only hours to get out of her apartment, Bella grabs everything she can & gets the bus to Bearfield & waits for her father to pick her up. With rules about living on Winter's Breath estate, Bella is pretty much recluse until one night she meets the owner Dorian Winterborn.
I'll leave that there, I don't want to spoil anything for you, 'Chained' was filled with intrigue, keeping me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen, why Dorian was the way he was... I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Bella Hart is a young attorney and is working at a prestigious law firm straight out of law school, until she is asked to stay late one night and turns down a rich clients sexual advances. After being fired she can think of only one person who could possibly help her, her father. Franklin Hart works as groundskeeper for Lord Winterborn on his estate in northern California, and he makes it clear that her stay is temporary and she has to stay hidden in his home on the estate at all times. When Bella is caught by Dorian walking around outside, she fears for her life, but instead ends up working for him. It soon becomes clear that Dorian has two different personalities, and Bella finds out that he has been cursed. She agrees to help him search for the key to break the curse and falls for him. This book has lots of twists in the plot, fascinating and sometimes quirky characters. Fantastic book!
Love this new series, it has drama, intrigue, romance, action, and one hunky but cursed dragon shifter. Forced to ask her father for help after loosing her job, her phone, and even her dignity, Bella moves onto a beautiful estate with him. The downside is that its run by a man who appears crazy, fine one minute, and full of rage the next. Dorian is cursed, forced to remain in human form and never to release his dragon. The curse is driving him mad, and his rages are getting worse every day. The only bright spot is Bella, who seems to calm him, but can she see through his volatile emotions to the man he truly is? Can they find the cure in time to save all?
The story is not exactly what you expect and very different from the more sweet romances by this author in her bear shifter series.
It is about a woman name Bella who is at a loss and needs a place to stay. Her father reluctantly lets her hide out on the estate where he works. The new owner, Dorian, does not want anyone around is very angered when he finds her.
Dorian and the rest of the household is very odd and there are lots of secrets. She ends up wanting to learn more and help him.
It is more focused on the mystery than the romance aspect but it does give the author time to develop the characters. I am interested in seeing where the author will go next with this new series.
At the beginning with Heath I had no idea where this book was going, but I knew for sure I really didn't like that guy. This book surprised me where it went. It was wonderfully done in a way that just ensnares you. Bella's life is crumbled to the ground and she's at rock bottom. She has no idea where to go, but the night she ends up at Winter's Breath will be the moment that changes her life forever. I'm glad we got to see Chloe again. We've met her previously in a Bearfield book. Dorian is a strange man at first. He's got a temper on him, but once we learn about the curse everything makes sense. Though Dorian has moments when he comes off as a jerk he cares deeply for Bella. The problem is can they find a way to reverse the sure before it's too late?
Chained: Reckless Desires (Dragon's Heart Book 1) (Dragon Shifter & BBW Paranormal Romance) by Jacqueline Sweet gets 5 stars!
Tormented and cursed Dorian Winterborn currently has problems that run more than skin deep. At times, he is more beast than man. When will the chains fall off? Will Bella Hart be his last chance at redemption? Will more than her love be the cure to end his ill-fated curse? Only time will tell, but Dorian's time is running out. Read the story and discover why Chained rocks.
It was an ok story, but there were a lot of typing errors, and between that and the huge gaps in story telling I couldn't bring myself to rate this any higher.
I think what I found most frustrating was the heroine kept talking about growing feelings, but they never interacted, and she, for the most part, avoided the hero.
Interesting idea, but so much was left out.
Also-who the hell forgets their best friend locked in a room with human skulls embedded in the mortar?!
Bella didn't realize that everything her job included as perks were not hers if they decided to fire her. Yet, whats a girl to do when the boss decides she's supposed to be someones sex toy. Now she's jobless and the only person she has is her Dad. Yet, he's really no better. Then she meets the owner of the estate her Dad works for. Dorian is hot headed one minute. Then a complete gentlemen. Will she be able to crack the code? or will he forever be destined to ruin?
This is the first book in the Dragon's Heart series. Bella is an attorney who loses her job thanks to a pervert client. Having nowhere else to go she moves in with her father. He is the groundskeeper of Winter' Breathe estate. Dorian is a cursed dragon shifter. Will she be able to help break the curse? Will they find peace and love before it is to late? Will Dorian go insane because he cannot shift? I enjoyed this story and give it 5 stars.
This standalone series opener has it all. A cursed Dragon, an attorney unjustly fired from the prestigious firm where she worked, a psychic who talks to ghosts, a castle built into a mountain and an unscrupulous oil tycoon. What a combination. But the author brings it all together into an entertaining story of good versus evil. It is a great 4 star KU library read.
A very pleasant story. Chloe was a interesting side kick - Added just the right amount of additional mystery. Normally the hero is fighting someone else to save his true love or fighting his true feelings for his true love but with this story he is fighting to save his life.
This book was awesome, it started out a little slow but then I just couldn't put it down. If you're looking for a quirky and fun loving book about a Dragon who finds out what love really is then you will want to give this book a try. Awesome storytelling with a little bit of funny twist.
This is my first book by Jacqueline and I was impressed. The story was really good I would have loved to see it be a long novel. Jacqueline really had me invested in these characters. If you are looking for a good book to read this is it.
Ms. Sweet has an amazing talent for weaving a great story! So much passion is in her books. This one is not different. Bella has problems with her new boss. He seems to be crazy. If you like situational issues and love, ghosts, dragons, and bad guys, you will love this book!
Her father was just as evil as his father. I suspected she was the key he was looking for and that the buyer was the same sleaze ball. That's what had the spirits in an uproar. Sorry Heath didn't get a beat down.
This was well written and I could not put this book down. It had me hooked from the beginning. It had me wanting more and is definitely a Must Read for over 18 due to content.
I love Jacqueline Sweet's novels. They're sweet, romantic fluff. Her heroines are strong, sexy and a little vulnerable. I like happy endings. There's stories make a nice escape for the afternoon. I look forward to the next one in this series.
A little too unbelievable for me - not the dragon shifting part but the taking a job as a maid having no money after her firm paid for all her living expenses and I lost a lot of respect when she took the money at one part - fun and does kind of tie things up together at the end
