3.5 Coming Out of Hiding Stars * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free This series likes to take situations which can mirror what each person is hiding...In this entry, we have two people who have tried to run away from where they could never get out of the shadows or assumptions of other people.
Lina McArthur grew up in Marietta, Montana as the daughter of the "end all, be all" Doctor everyone admired. She did follow into the medical field, became a doctor as well... but she never was able to be seen as Lina, the person... only as the Daughter of...
Lina finally decided she needed to find out who she was on her own... Have others think of her as just another co-worker/doctor. A move to the neighboring community was the trick. Here she was able to try things, new things without judgment.
Dean "Ace" Clark has joined this community too. He has been running for a long time... and hopes he can settle down here. He likes his fellow Smoke Jumpers...likes the town and is thinking this may be where he can stop and just breathe.
Dean has carried a burden for so many years... He was a troubled teen and has a sister he hasn't seen in decades...He made a decision in an instant to make sure she would never be dragged down by his actions...He has been careful to hide in plain sight... not allowing his sister to find him.
These two cross paths when Dean has a work injury. Lina is in the ER and takes care of him. After making sure he is basically ok... she has a sense that she may know him from somewhere else...She questions him and he plays the usual game he always does...He sticks to his pat story and throws Lina off track.
At least he thinks he does...
Both of these two... decide to play each other...and in the hiding of their own agenda...another agenda takes place... They fall hard for each other. It will only be a matter of time before we see what happens...Because it is bound to...
This series has all of the firefighters making appearances, the community giving that small-town warmth and always a HEA. There are more entries coming and I will be looking for them.
I came for the smoke and the jumpers but all I got was a boy and a girl touching each other silly.
Should the series be titled Firefighter’s of Montana if there is a lack of jumping and firefighting? Perhaps a better title would be Boys of Montana. Hehehe.
At any rate, the author knows how to write a good romance.
"Ignite" by Nicole Helm is book 3 in the Firefighters of Montana series and can be read as a standalone. This novel is the story of Dean "Ace" Clark, a Smokejumper firefighter and Lina McArthur, a doctor. First let me say that I really love this series. The heroes are rugged, alpha and sexy and I like the heroines as well because they are smart and not flighty. Even though the five book series is written by different authors, I can honestly say the writing from book to book flowed perfectly making no difference to the stories being told. In addition, the characters from past and future books are mentioned throughout. If you're a fan of the Montana Born books by Tule publishing, you will love the mentions of Marietta. Actually Ace's sister's story was previously written "Keep Me Cowboy" also by Nicole Helm. I admit that wasn't one of my favorites in that series because I didn't like the characters as much but having read it, I had more understanding of Ace's past.
Lina moved from her hometown, Marietta to Kalispell to make a new life for herself, out from her father's shadow and the stigma of the prestigious McArthur name. Lina's father was not an affectionate man; more condescending than anything. Lina just wanted to be known for her own talents as a respected doctor without the influence of her affluent family name. Unfortunately, because of the stifling way she was raised, Lina was uncultured of the real world in so many ways. She lacked the experience and joy of having fun. Lina was very intelligent but sadly ignorant of many things in life.
Ace was running from the past, hiding his identity so he wouldn't be found. Ace had his reasons although I disagreed with how he let his self-banishment go on for so long. When he meets Lina in the hospital following an injury sustained during a forest fire, there is a small recognition however he denies his true identity when questioned by Lina. Of course she is suspicious and decides to do some investigating.
As Ace and Lina get to know each other, Ace stays true in his denial and even though she doesn't believe him, Lina decides to ignore it for the time being as they grow closer. "Ignite" was a beautiful story. I loved watching Lina let down her walls and learn to enjoy life without analyzing everything. Ace was such a likable character. I just loved him! Ace was sexy and sweet and even protective, not to mention he had a romantic side too. There was some angst leading up the the HEA but so worth it! I can't wait to read the next in series, "Heat."
I am loving this series and this one is a fabulous addition to them we have met Ace Clark in the first two books he is a cocky one strong and good at his job as a smokejumper but I had the feeling that he had a secret and now it is going to be uncovered in such a great story sit back and enjoy.
Dr Lina McArthur has moved to Kalispell to start a new life get out from under her father's shadow she is quiet a loner a very good Doctor and very innocent in so many ways she has one very close girlfriend Jess and lives a quiet life that is until one of the smokejumpers is bought into the ER as she treats him she sees something in his eyes like she knows him and she is drawn to him this is so unusual for Lina and so her life is about to change in so many ways.
Dean Ace Clark has a secret that has kept him running for many years form one place to another but he has finally found something that has made him feel good about himself his job as a smokejumper he has finally put down down roots but his past is always with him kept locked away, so when he is treated by Dr McArthur in the ER that name brings a lot memories back he should stay away from her but there is a pull a spark that cannot be ignored.
This really is a beautiful story as Lina opens up in so many ways to life and love with Ace they have such a sensual journey choosing to leave that elephant alone until Jess arrives from Marietta to visit her friend Lina and the emotions come pouring out. This is a story that will have you turning the pages and thoroughly enjoying the journey to such a beautiful HEA for Ace and Lina two people who are perfect together.
Lina gets away from her past in a new job however comes across a patient who is connected to her past and touches her heart. Ace and Lina work to find a future together. 3rd book in Montana firefighters series that keeps the reader turning pages. Am enjoying my visit back to Montana. Ebook from net galley and publishers with thanks. Opinions entirely my own.
"Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review" The intense focus on the two lead characters shows Nicole Helm’s craft creating strong, believable characters and emotionally complex stories. The author limits the action almost completely to her main characters and what a powerful portrayal is conveyed of two beautiful and damaged people, connecting in the most unexpected way. This book is not very long but I really enjoyed it, I love Nicole Helm’s stories. This apparently unlikely couple – a smokejumper and an emergency doctor –, who have more in common than one might think, grew on me. I really liked the apparently cold and not very lovable heroine who gets through the hero’s “self-destructive bullshit”. And we can see the little boy going from foster home to foster home in the man he’s now. The dialogue is great and the depth of emotion touching. Nicole Helm never disappoints. I'm grateful to the publisher, Tule Publishing, and NetGalley for providing a free copy.
If you enjoy being inside the heads of the main couple in your romantic read, you will surely love this one, folks. But be prepared for lots of internal back and forth, conflicted monologues that hash and rehash pretty much every aspect of their lives. From their past, how they think others perceive them, how they view themselves, should they be doing what they are doing, and, of course, the big secret that is like a self-imposed brick wall between them that is sooner rather than later going to come tumbling down upon them. That aspect takes up quite a bit of the storyline.
For me, I have to admit I just didn’t see what the big deal was all about. Lina figured things out right away and vice versa. It was that obvious. So what if she didn’t reveal that she knew this to a certain someone for a couple of months. More importantly, why was Ace continuing doing what he was doing. He hadn’t committed a major crime. He wasn’t a fugitive from the law. To put it more specifically, he should have made contact a long time ago. If nothing else, a brief proof of life note was in order, IMHO.
I took greater exception to being told Lina had the reputation of being a smart, successful doctor with an ice princess persona, but instead we were given a blushing virgin heroine who didn’t even know how to dress right, flirt, or kiss a guy. I just couldn’t reconcile those two images. Besides, I’m just not fond of feeling embarrassed for the leading lady, folks. I would have preferred her being a sexy siren that set him on fire hotter than a five alarm house fire. Sure, he was attracted to her but it was more of a cool guy decides to go for the unlikely girl at the bar set-up.
If you also like leisurely, touch by touch, not in a rush, lengthy, steamy scenes, you’ll likely enjoy their eventual smexy time together, as well. With Ace only getting called out on one firefighting job late in the book, the couple had loads of time to get to know each other.
Having enjoyed book 3, Scorch, I’m reading this series out of order. Now with book 2 under my belt, I hope to backtrack and read book 1, Smolder. Sam, the fire chief, you’re next, buddy. I can’t wait to see Laurel bring you to your senses and help you get over your grief after losing your wife.

***Ignite 3 stars I purchased a copy of the slowburn/steamy novel Ignite: A Firefighters of Montana Romance:Ace and Lina Book three by Nicole Helm and this review was given freely. A virgin-alpha firefighter romance with an instant attraction between two characters who are each hiding their hurt and loneliness behind a facade. This sequel is a somewhat steamy romance that includes a Glacier Creek smokejumper and a step by step analysis of Lina and Dean's every thought and action but ultimately ends happily. Looking for her best friend Jess Clark's brother Dean and hoping to escape her father's influence, the introverted and socially awkward Dr. Lina McArthur moves to Kalispell and the Regional Hospital's ER where the secretive smokejumper "Ace" Clark happens to be her patient.
*** Heat 3 stars I purchased a copy of the mildly steamy novel Heat A Firefighters of Montana Romance Book 4:Dodson and by Karen Foley and this review was given freely. Drama and action packed, this sequel returns us back to the hectic life of the Glacier Creek forest station team and contains a brief introductory summary of the first two books as well as an attraction at first sight romance between divorced and disillusioned with marriage Tyler Dodson and the woman he saves, California veterinarian Callie McClain who is visiting her father at his wolf sanctuary.
***Flame 3 stars I purchased a copy of the steamy novel Flame: A Firefighters of Montana Romance Book 5 by Victoria Purman and this review was given freely. A second chance at love romance with vivid descriptions, a caring uncle and a steamy love story. A year after Russ's death and Sam's becoming Captain, prior high school friends, smokejumper Dex McCoy and his first love the owner of Cady's Cakes bakery, Cady Adams return to their hometown of Glacier Creek, Montana and starting their dream jobs but have a hard time moving past an awkward encounter and panic attacks.
Lima is from a strong family dynamic in Marietta who has moved to Kalispell, Wyoming to work at a hospital as an ER Doctor away from her family. When smoke jumper firefighter is brought into her er with a concussion she realizes he is the brother of her friend who has been looking for him for ten years. Ace Clark is the name he is using now but realizes who Lina McArthur is when he sees her doctor nametag. He knows he needs to get away from her now. Ace has been running from his sister for ten years because he is nothing but trouble. After seeing Line in a bar later that week, he knows he wants to get to know her better. As the sparks fly and they both knoe
4.5 Stars I am loving these firefighters! This is book 3 in The Firefighters of Montana series and it features Ace Clark and Lina McArthur. This book was written a little different than the first two in this series. Ace's firefighting job is not the base of this story line. It played quietly in the background while his past crept into his present. Lina is a great character. She was strong and she knew the only way to find herself was to move away from her overpowering family. This story was about facing the past and moving on.
I really like this book was very exciting. It was short, but good. Enjoy the characters they had a lot of sass, and romance. The storyline is good, I’m excited to read the rest of the series and the books with the brothers. Thanks
In Ignite by Nicole Helm, Ace is a smoke jumper who unexpectedly runs into his past...a past he ran from and has stayed away from. Lina is the Dr. who treats an injured Ace, a man who seems so familiar to her. Both of them left Marietta, Montana for different reasons, but Ace is determined to stay away and not be found. Lina is sure she knows him from her past, and the attraction she feels towards him is only one of the reasons she wants to get to know him better in her present world. The attraction is on both sides, and as they spend more time together they leave the past alone, and instead focus on the here and now. Their relationship grows and the chemistry between Lina and Ace is hot, but unresolved issues on both sides are still there in the shadows...and when the past confronts them, can it be as bad as it seems? Will it bring destruction to not only their relationship but their relationships with others, or will they find the strength to face the past, and maybe have a chance at a future together?
Ignite was a fast paced story about two people finding their own way in life, then finding each other. I was glad to get to know Ace better, having seen him in previous Firefighters of Montana books. His youthful ideology and ideas of right and wrong drove him away, but even as an adult they've kept him away. He made me feel different things as I got to know him. Frustration because of how he continued to hide, sadness for what he had come from and went through, and hope that he'd open his eyes and see the future clearly. I'm undecided how I felt about him because he has held onto the past tightly and it's impacted his entire way of being. I could understand Lina a lot better. She left Marietta to make it on her own, away from a powerful family with a lot of influence. It would take a lot of courage to do this, to stand up to her father in particular, but she does it with no regrets. She's doing what she wants to do to make her happy. Lina and Ace seemed to spend a lot of time in their own little world, and I was intrigued to see what would happen when the outside world finally broke in.
I liked the secondary characters we did see in Ignite. In particular Ace's sister who I could really feel for.
I liked the characters, but didn't develop a strong connection with them, and this made it more difficult to feel invested in their future. The plot is good, I just had a hard time with Ace for a lot of the book.

This is Lina McArthur and Dean “Ace” Clark's story. Lina McArthur studied the screen of her rolling computer station, noting the patient’s information before entering the exam room. “Doctor. Happy to be starting at a new hospital, Dr. Lina McArthur finds herself with a stubborn patient. Injured smokejumper, Firefighter Ace Clark has been stitched up, has a concussion and is fast becoming impatient with the amount of medical staff at Kalispell Regional Hospital, Montana, who’d asked him questions about his injuries. After venting his anger at Lina, he panics when he realizes that he somehow knew her, having met her a long time ago whilst in foster care. Lina is equally in shock when sees Ace’s name tag, recognizes those eyes and suspects that Ace Clark might actually be Dean Clark, whose sister, Jess, is her best friend. As they both try to dig deeper and deeper into each other’s past in order to get to the truth, they do the unthinkable... and begin falling for each other. Ace will do anything to keep his secret, and his past, from those around him. But when you are in love, priorities change. As Ace realizes that Lina is emotionally invested in his life and she declares her love for him, he runs. After all, jumping into a wildfire is much less scary than falling in love.
Nicole Helm’s wonderfully romantic story about two people who had crossed paths in their youth is one which brought tears to my eyes, both in sadness and joy. With each of the characters being so stubborn, it is intriguing, not to mention comical, to see how each of them tries to break down the wall built around the other as they tried to connect. There are many humorous parts in the book which carry dark undertones, blending painful pasts with hopes and dreams of the present. Both Lina and Ace had been running their whole lives from who they had once been and where they had come from. Although their reasons for running differed, their determination to weigh up the pros and cons of letting the past back into their present was an emotional labyrinth which I took great pleasure in exploring. I very much enjoyed Ignite and recommend it to readers over the age of 15 who enjoy suspense, drama, action and humor in this wonderful romantic adventure.
"Ignite" is a beautiful, sweet, and passionate story. You will be hooked from the start to finish. Both Ace and Lina have portrayed themselves differently that who and how they feel. In this story you discover the real Ace and Lina.
"Ignite" by Nicole Helm Is book number three in the "Firefighters of Montana" series. This is Dr. Lina McArthur and smokejumper, Dean "Ace" Clark's story.
Lina has moved to Kalispell to escape being under the shadow of her father who is also a doctor. She wants to experience life instead of just being all about her studies and work at the hospital. Since moving she really hasn't changed her life as much as she thought she would.
Dean is his real name but has been going by Ace for years. He has been on the run from an early age. Ace never tells anyone the true story of his life. Russ his boss that was killed in a jump was one of the first person's in his life that gave him a chance. He just feel he deserves happiness and love.
Ace ends up in the emergency room from a jump injury. This is where he and Lina meet. Lina is suspicious and believes that he could be her best friend's brother Dean. Ace lies and tries to act like he's just a party guy. But there is also something about the way Ace makes Lina feel. She has never felt this type of attraction to a guy. Lina has never had an intimate relationship or even been kissed.
Ace has intentions of staying away from Lina because of her relationship with his sister. He has his reasons for not contacting his sister. Lina decides that she is going to try to find out if Ace is really Dean Clark. The two meet up again and both their intentions go out the window. Watching their relationship grow and develop was sweet and passionate. Will Ace's past catch up with him and destroy their chance at happiness and love?
FYI, includes mature content. I received a copy of this book from Tule Publishing for an honest review.
Ace and Lina's story is a romantic and enjoyable read. I loved their story.
I’m not even sure where to begin. This book was irritating. I couldn’t even remember the two main characters names to start the review. I had to go back and look.
Lina McArthur is an Emergency Room doctor in a fairly small town. She moved from an even smaller town to escape her family. Her dad is a doctor in that small town and her family name gave her privileges, wealth and an elitist, arrogant attitude. It also kept anyone from asking her out.
Ace Clark is a smoke jumper. He ran away from home 10 years ago, leaving his sister, Jess, behind. He has reinvented himself into someone he actually likes. His sister has been looking for him since he left.
Lina just happens to be Jess’s best friend. She thinks she recognizes Ace as Dean, the long lost brother, but Ace has perfected his cover story and the lies roll off his tongue easily.
So many issues with this story. If you truly want to escape your past, wouldn’t you change your entire name, not just your first name? Wouldn’t you relocate further away than the next bigger town? And if you knew you’d just found the brother your best friend, who has been the one solid person in your life, has been trying to find for 10 years, would you really withhold that information for months for selfish reasons?
I didn’t connect with either character.
This book was published in 2016 and since I just received a copy, I assume I received the published copy. It needs further editing for typos and sentences that don’t flow well or make sense.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy from NetGalley.
Dr. Lina MacArthur spent her life trying to impress her father and live up to the MacArthur name in Marietta. When she decides that it is time to live her life for herself, she finds a position in Kalispell and starts to find things that make her happy. The last thing she expected was to find her best friend and sister-in-law's long lost brother. Ace Clark left Marietta as a teen, hoping to give his sister a chance at a better life. He has finally found his place and started to settle down with his job as a Smokejumper out of Glacier Creek. When a trip to the ER brings him face-to-face with Lina, he knows that he should stay away, but he finds himself intrigued. Lina and Ace can't resist the chance to get to know each other, ignoring the obvious. When it is time to face the music, will they be strong enough to fight for the life they have made. I really enjoyed this story and the development of these two characters and how their story fit with the others in the series. This book can be read as a stand alone, but the stories are all so fun, I recommend reading them all. *I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
When Dean "Ace" Clark ends up in Kalispell Hospital's emergency room after a jump goes wrong, he discovers the doctor to be none other than his sister's best friend Lina McArthur. He couldn’t let Lina know who he really is. He didn’t want to interfere with his sister’s life. Ten years ago, Ace left Marietta and never looked back. He wanted Jess to have a good life without his troubled past overshadowing her. He has created a whole new life for himself including a new background and he wasn’t going to let anyone know his secret.
Lina was tired of living in her father’s shadow. When it was time to break free, she moved to Kalispell where she could figure out who she really was. The day Lina has a patient with her best friend’s last name, it sets her mind racing. What if this was Jess’s long lost brother? She was almost positive Ace really was Dean and she will do anything to find the truth. But one thing Lina didn't expect was how hard she would fall for the sexy smoke jumper.
This is a fast paced book with a great storyline and interesting characters. It is a wonderful addition to the Firefighters of Montana series.
This series keeps getting better with each book. The series might be about firefighters/smokejumpers but its also about relationships. and not just between a man and a woman. It also about a friendship. Lina started her life over when she moved away from her hometown. she meets a patient in the ER and discovers that this man might be her good friend's missing brother. she is going to find a way to get to the truth. once she does she doesnt want to know if she is right. Dean 'Ace' Clark has been establishing a life as a firefighter and a new identity. He selflessly left his sister 10 years ago in good hands knowing he was making iy hard for her inbfoster care. now he is close to blowing that all away if he lets Lina into his life because she is his sister's good friend. For a short story it sure dealt with insightful emotions, and discovering what you are truly made of for both Ace and Lina. Decisions have impact not only on yourself but on others as well. by keeping her relationship with Ace to herself she didnt know how it could hurt her friend. it was well written how the author reconciled it all for each of the characters and a happy ending.
This was a really great love story. 2 people running away from their pasts and choosing to ignore the truth about each other so that they could find love in each other's arms. Lina McArthur has lived all her life overshadowed by the McArthur name. Trying to make a name of her own she leave Marietta to move to Glacier Creek where as an ER doctor, she has an encounter with Ace Clark. Only his name and face rings familiar bells.
Ace has reinvented himself. He's left the notorious Dean Clark behind in Marietta so that his sister can make a life for himself. Only Lina has endangers everything he has sacrificed and worked so hard to achieve. And even though he tries to resist her, fate has other plans in store for them.
Ace Clark and Lina McArthur are trying to escape their pasts. Ace has successfully reinvented himself after his troubled youth and has left his past behind. Lina moved to Kalispell to get out of the shadows of the McArthur name. When Ace recognizes Lina's last name at the hospital, he knows that he should stay away from her because she is definitely linked to the past that he has avoided for 10 years. Despite their best efforts to deny the chemistry between them, passion ignites.
Lina and Ace were great together. They are my favorite couple of this series. I absolutely loved Lina's perfect day! I love the Firefighters of Montana series!
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
Lina had grown up under her father's shadow. She decided she needed to leave her hometown and get out on her own to find herself. She is a doctor and sees a patient that had the last name of her best friend. Her friend has been looking for her brother for years. Ace left his old life behind and decided it was best for his sister if she never sees him again. He recognizes the doctor's last name and assures her that he is not the guy she is looking for. He wants to be that guy, but knows it is best if he stays away. Can he be the guy that stays around with Lina and his sister? Does he need to run again? He likes his life as a smoke jumper and doesn't really want to leave.
Excellent read! Ace Clark ran as far and as fast as he could from a troubled past. Fearful that his bad reputation would risk the place in the foster home his sister Jess was so happy in wanted to get away and give her a chance at happiness. Now years later it looks like his past has caught up to him. An injury doing his job as a smoke jumper sends him to the hospital. There he is treated by the gorgeous Dr. McArthur. She's from the very family he ran from all those years ago. Falling for her could jeopardize everything he's sacrificed for all these years. Or it may very well be the best thing that ever happen to him.
Dean “Ace” Clark is a smokejumper in Kalispell. He ends up in the ER with a concussion due to an accident during one of their jumps. Upon recognizing the doctor’s name, all he wants to do is get out of there and quick! Lina McArthur is the doctor who examines Ace. One look at his last name and Lina thinks she knows him. Will this chance encounter change their lives for the good or dredge up a past that both are trying to escape?
I quite enjoyed this book! I love how these stories are entwined with each other yet have a quality of their own. I can’t say it enough. If you haven’t read this series, you must add it to your list!
By the time I reached the end of this story I was in tears. Ignite is the third in the Firefighters of Montana series and pairs Dr Lina McArthur with smokejumper Ace Clark. Both have a shared past in the form of Jess, Lina's best friend and Ace's sister, a sister he ran away from ten years ago when they were both foster children. While I kept wanting to hit Ace over the head and tell him to man up and face his past, I could understand why he and Lina pretended she didn't know who he really was. I thought Nicole Helm did a good job of fleshing out two difficult characters, and I liked the way she developed their story. This story had me hooked and I pretty much read it in one session. Nice!
Ace started his life over outside of Marietta years ago. So far he has not had any problems keeping his identity a secret. All of that is threatened when he hears a name from the past. After a work injury he is patched up by none other than his sister's best friend. He has not talked to his sister since he left, for her own good, years ago. Lina left Marietta to get out of her doctor father's shadow. Can she stop questioning Aces true identity long enough t get to know him? Great addition to the series. Loved it!
