Spirit Warrior and supernatural enforcer Naomi Garland has fought hell beasts and magical miscreants. She has thwarted warlords’ schemes and plunged into the deeper reaches of hell. None of that has prepared her for this.
Following a mass demon breakout from hell, Naomi and her Dragon Born lover set out to hunt them down. But this time, it isn’t just about saving the world. The demons have infiltrated Naomi’s inner circle—and to defeat them, she must join forces with her sworn enemies.
Ella Summers has been writing stories for as long as she could read; she's been coming up with tall tales even longer than that. One of her early year masterpieces was a story about a pigtailed princess and her dragon sidekick. Nowadays, she still writes fantasy. She likes books with layered plots, lots of action and adventure, and a touch of romance. When she is not busy writing or spending time with her two young children, she makes the world safe by fighting robots.
Originally from the U.S., Ella currently resides in Switzerland. She is the author of Sorcery and Science, a fantasy adventure series set in a world splintered by magic and technology.
I made it to the 30% mark before I couldn't take it any more. I usually like Summers' work, but this whole series is a mess.
The characters are all the same. The women are all sarcastic, happy-go-lucky, and have the same banter over and over and over and over and over again. The men are all broody and stoic. You could swap dialog from Alex, Sera, and Naomi and you wouldn't know. The same could be said for Makani, Kai, and Logan.
Each chapter is the same set up of having some banter, encountering a random enemy, beating that enemy handily, then a random character appears to lead them to the next fight. Rinse and repeat.
I would hazard a guess that you could read the first and last 2 or 3 chapters and not really miss anything.
After rescuing Naomi’s dad, they discover that he had been used to carry dozens of demons from hell to Earth. Now they have to find them all and send them back to hell, but it isn’t that easy. The demons are smarter than they look. They’re hiding in Alcatraz and Atlantis and deep inside their unwitting hosts creating chaos wherever they go. The solution takes them deep into the levels of hell and revels an amazing surprise.
Lots of unusual battles with demons and talk about food. Some places a little corny. But I love the ending.
Fave scenes: the watertower distraction, crashing Lara and Riley’s surprise, chasing the two brothers into the transportation stream and the fight with the spiders.
This book had a fantastic beginning and middle, but the very end felt a bit rushed. It definitely feels like Ella Summers wants to close her Dragon Born Universe.
While it felt rushed the end was actually pretty perfect for this book. It definitely gave the book a sense of finality and brought closure for Makani and ______'s story.
I look forward to what happens next with Alex and ______.
Magic Immortal, another wonderful book in Ella Summer's Dragon Born series, has again blown me away! Even this far into the series, the books are each unique enough to capture your attention and merit their own praise. Magic Immortal completes Naomi's tale and is a story filled with twists and turns, intrigue, danger, deception, redemption and love. A must-read part of the Dragon Born series!
I enjoyed Naomi's story and the twist in this last book was something I hadn't seen coming. Thumbs up!
One of the characters had me puzzled though. She was happy to do XYZ, but ABC was crossing a line... I'm happy she changed her mind, but it did baffle me.
3.5 a hop, skip and a jump. The plot that is, difficulties overcome without much strain. Characters and plot are the bare bones of something great. Maybe I just was in the mood for surface level stuff.
This was a gripping read from start to end and another fantastic addition to this amazing series of books. I'm looking forward to how this series concludes.
Biggest surprise ever. You will never see this one coming. I loved how this series concluded, it was the perfect end to Naomi's story and i cannot wait to see more of Naomi and Makani in Alex's final book.
