Pre-review: The waiting is getting too much! I want this volume two right now! Life is so unfair!

Actual review after reading and re-reading it for a few times@04/12/2016:

OMG what the hell had I just read!?

Caste Heaven volume 2, I had been waiting for a whole year for this continuity of the twisted yaoi story about a cruel game of hierarchy, reward and punishment within a highschool.

This time, aside from the main couple Azusa and Karino (the bullied current Target and the ruling King of the class); the story shifts to the side couple, Kuze and Atsumu (the current Jack and the Prep, aka the model student).

I like how Kuze and Atsumu's relationship develops, I also LOVE the major twist that takes place in this relationship. I mean.... OMG, mind=blown!

What I really like about this series is that, whenever you think 'Thing can't get any worse or any more fucked up', well it does! I just have to wonder...how could Ms. Oagawa draw this scene without dying inside? I mean...whenever I read to this scene.......I just felt myself dying from the inside a little!

But my one small complaint is about this creepy teacher! This guy creeps me out! As a teacher you just shouldn't lust after your student!

The newly introduced third couple (Karino's straight-As older brother and the super crazy, super dangerous Bad Boy) is also doing so damn GREAT!!!! Although I feel it happens way too fast for the model student to fall for the Bad Boy.

The Final Words: Can't wait for volume 3 to come out! In vol. 2, Ms. Ogawa has teased us with a hint about a boy becoming the Queen of another class! I'm so dying of curiosity right now!

This book is crazy, like.... my mind is still reeling from everything I just read and I can't properly formulate what I want to say in a coherent manner. I just can't believe that these kids put themselves through this shit. Like, whyyyyy?!

I've read a lot of BL, and that rape scene was the most shocking thing I've seen outside of Korean manhwa. And I could not believe that Kuze was taking part in it! I felt so betrayed, like, what the hell?! (Deep Breath) Putting all those shocking scenes aside, I've gotta admit that this story is very well written. I mean, you may not like what's taking place on the pages, but you can't deny how well thought out everything was. The only thing that may not make sense is how the teachers supposedly don't know about the game. There is no way that they haven't noticed how the social hierarchy within each classroom seems to change every few months. The only thing that I can think of is that they do know but choose to ignore it. It seems pretty messed up that they'd do that, but, they may not know just how bad things can get for the Target. I'm sure the students aren't beating them up in front of the teachers. They also probably think that if things got too bad someone would say something about it.

So... is it weird for me to say that I want Kuze and Atsumu to work out? Kuze is definitely messed up but I think his character can be redeemed. And, I want to know more about Senzaki. Is his family really Yakuza? Him and Tatsumi make such an interesting couple. They are the first to openly say they love each other. I'm not used to having three couples in one series that I am equally interested in following. There is usually at least one that I couldn't care less about. Not here. Each of these couples' relationships have such uniquely interesting dynamics about them that I am never bored. I am just as easily drawn to one relationship as I am to another.

Without a doubt, this isn't a story that everyone is going to like, but personally, I love it. I'm hooked and enjoying every page of it. I want to know how everything plays out, but I don't want to reach the end too soon. I want to draw this out as long as possible. Definite 5 stars for me.

I changed my mind. All hopes were lost. They're all mental!!

And here I was crying about how pretty the second artwork was; what with Atsumu covered in ivy and roses. I forgot how George R.R. Martin symbolized roses for cunning, pretentious people—I'm sorry William Blake but GRRM won this time. I'm out of my mind! But I adored that symbolism and the first one with Azusa's body tangled in ivy. He definitely is!! Poor boy.

AND THE STUDENT-TEACHER, OH MY GOD. CAN YOU JUST KILL ME NOW? ABSOLUTELY REPULSIVE, I CAN'T—this is a very bad day to have eyes and a stupid mind. Freaking out aside, I hate this kind of educational institution. The regular teachers didn't even budge when a kid was hospitalized, rather bullied? And they freaking know about the caste game? My God, this is ridiculous. I'm sorry, Ogawa, but I just can't with all that's happening.

Also, here I am, getting uplifted (again!) by the two delinquent shitheads trying to conquer the world with adoration for each other. I knew I'd be disappointed as soon as I get to know them in the next volume—but let's see for real. All my hopes are gone now, I'm just going to dive into this mania with all I've got.

2.5 out of 5 stars this time. I just can't—what eye-glasses guy (I keep on forgetting his name, I swear! I keep calling him Jirou, augh, forgetful me) and Kuze did is unacceptable! What the actually fuck? That's seriously sick! But through it all, that dramatic voice never fails.

This series is insane but I love the political intrigue. It’s hard to keep the storyline and all of the characters straight sometimes but am definitely intrigued by this story so far.

DNF at the halfway point.

Not only does the sexual harassment get WORSE but even the teacher that you get a sliver of hope from is a total creep. I get bad vibes and I’m just not enjoying this. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy black flag bl with alllllll of the tw, HOWEVER! This is just not good. None of the characters are likable, the story is not good at all and I really don’t see how this could be a ‘happy ending’ like the author says at the end of volume one.

The author did do a good job of executing what she wanted; making a story full of despicable people. I’ll give her that. But this is just not for me at all.

Frankly, I don't remember much from volume 1 or why I gave it 4 stars, but this series is just bonkers.
There are things that could have been told about bullying, even with (or maybe even because of!) the over-the-top premise and despicable characters, but it all gets thrown under the bus for bad writing and jumping at every chance to make the characters have sex, often non-consensual. (I'm not saying it's bad that the assault is in there, but the way it's portrayed seems very much just for horny reasons and it does not seem to have any consequences whatsoever.)

Not only did we see more from the two original relationships, but not there are quite a few new players in the game. I really hope that the teacher guy doesn’t get involved in the game, because I know he’d really hurt Azusa. So stressful.

Totally totally into the manga! The characters are just so complex! I’m looking forward to seeing to finding out about Karino’s brother! That teacher was a bit creepy, everyone has a dark side! I’m hoping Kuze’s relationship develops well, it seems to be heading in the right direction! I like seeing even the small changes! Hopefully Azura can find some peace. Looking forward to next volume! ❤️❤️

So etwas stört mich sehr.

Story 4,4/5
Charaktere 3,6/5
Zeichenstil 4,4/5
Lesegefühl 3,4/5
Gesamt 4,0/5

Wow, this legitimately took me a year and a half to read because I had to drop it and not come back until now. That being said, I've changed quite a lot since then, unsurprisingly. I'd rather not get deep into the details of this manga as it's so dark, sick, and twisted... I skimmed through the parts from a year+ ago and I can't tell if it feels extremely different now because I'm skimming... or because I'm so different. Either way, reader beware. I rarely read a manga so beautiful in both art and writing and yet so twisted and sickening at the same time.
It was nice to see the side couple...if not for some reprieve from the more twisted main couple.
That being said... As it stands now, I think Tatsumi and Senzaki are my current favorites (their chapter was where I picked back up).
"I should have kept walking. But I was so very, very bored with life..."
"There's no need to be afraid. To live is to hurt. The pain you feel is proof you're alive. Watching you writhe in your first taste of life is so beautiful it takes my breath away."
I'd pay to see more of these two and their story, but somehow, I feel like it may be self contained to chapter 11. That's okay by me, it suits the story, especially if we get to see more of the other couples too in similar fashions. But I'd just be so happy if there were more of these two. I like Senzaki and the dynamic between him and Tatsumi, as well as Tatsumi's development, and the strong love and infatuation they share. I hope they keep going strong for a long time. Review for volume 1-5

Caste Heaven is appallingly cruel and tasteless. It could have been an interesting read about social hierarchy at school and bullying, but any hint of a good story this might have possessed was drowned out in the way it is delivered. This takes place in a high school where all students participate in a caste game: everyone is assigned a card that marks their social status and the lower you are the more you get bullied. Bullying, though, is an understatement - there are multiple rape scenes per chapter within the first volume alone.

The actual story takes a complete backseat and is ultimately just a means to an end for characters to have sex, a lot of which is at the very least borderline rape. Apart from the fact that this entire game is completely messed up and unrealistic, I found it very hard to stomach and am baffled that people actually enjoy this. I would have dropped this after the first two chapters had I not already owned the volumes. If nothing else, I can say that rather than improving, Caste Heaven stays true to its themes and only introduces new oddly-matched couples - why is it that non of these characters are even remotely sane? I'm getting rid of this - I don't care how it ends and I don't recommend it. I shall end this the way it started: this manga is nothing short of cruel and in poor taste.

WARNING: This volume contains noncon & a rape scene with 2 unwilling parties, so please be aware before reading!!

This volume is pretty great, as it develops a storyline for the secondary couple, Atsumu (former bullied kid, now ranked Jack) and Kuze (former Jack, now a lower rank). Their obsessive relationship with each other begins to grow at a dangerous pace outside of their massive amounts of sex. I really enjoyed how both characters rotate their lives around each other and how Atsumu tries to escape, but eventually gets punished each time.

In addition, there's more scenes with Karino and Azuza (main couple, King/Joker ranking) having sex, but also a dangerous punishment round after Atsumu and Azuza (the bottoms) start being friendly with each other... that punishment is definitely a lot of psychological damage to them both.

Finally, the creator also introduces a third couple with Tatsumi (Karino's half-brother & ranked a preppy) and Senzaki (transfer student & ranked a deliquent), which is kinda hot and also a good change of pace! No big psychological warfare going around here, just horny boys having sex.

Overall, a great volume and can't wait to read more! It's definitely a fucked up manga and you knew what you're getting into after the 1st volume, so fans of the concept will definitely enjoy the 2nd volume!

Just Lol... like its a fun read but if you take the events too seriously it's so unrealistic... like how do the teachers not notice? There is like a couple in every empty classroom and even the student-teacher (I can't recall what his title was) is demented. Not to say I'm not enjoying the read it's just a little over the top at times.
Other than that I'm enjoying the class dynamics and how their not contained and fluid as they may change with each caste game. I'm also enjoying the relationships as no one is truly honest with another and their backstories are enlightening on their current behaviours. As I said it is ridiculous that these situations are taking place but mob mentality and the fact their teenagers who want to fit in are plausible despite it being a heavily exaggerated situation. Overall, I'm enjoying it and cant wait to see how things will play out as the plot seems to be gaining pace.

Her problematic energy is thriving and spreading like, a rash? Bacteria? Venereal disease? But in a good way?

The spicy plot has me. THE MANIPULATION OCCURING IS ASTRONOMICAL W LEGIT EVERYONE.
Azusa being forced to f Atsumuuuuu heck. I know they'll def end up kiss kiss fall in love. Like Azusa is cray, but I feel he will develop and hence deserve a cute nice boi like atsumu in the end.

Kuze is a sociopath. As soon as they pull out the "I took care of a bunny as a kid" back story, you know it's official.

Hisoka looking mf has me EXCITED. Like no one looks like that w out having chaotic energy. And Tatsumi serves. He just serves

Warnings Rape, gang rape, & bullying

I take everything I said about healthy relationships back! There's no hint of one. Everyone is just F'd up. Also apparently the faculty does know about the game but they just let it happen because it's only 1 person being bullied per class and that makes it more manageable or something. Um, I'm pretty sure you'd have fewer kids being bullied if this game didn't exist.

Say they have 4 classes per grade, that's 12 kids getting bullied daily. That's a major problem in or outside this game.

This is just getting real and real.
Damn, I love this series.

Volume 2 explores Atsumu and Kuze’s complicated relationship. Well, in all honesty, it looks pretty obvious they are in love, and if it changes, I am going to riot!
Like I said in my previous review of volume 1, this is dark bully romance, so twisted shit is happening, so it really didn’t faze me a bit. Karino MF is high on power (I don’t mind), because Azusa kind of getting what he deserves 🤷🏻‍♀️

The biggest turn on was Tatsumi and Senzaki’s relationship. Man, I stan them 🙇🏻‍♀️ too bad they are just side characters.

This story was interesting I genuinely think main guy in this book is a very kind hearted person. And there’s only one moment I was worried about his mental state. I can’t say that they’re my favorite couple. I think the one that is shown at the end of this book is definitely more so my favorite. I love that there is a jump back to the previous book that connects the next set of characters in each book thus far.

Triggers for rape and abuse.

This volume follows more couples than the first one. I was hoping for more Azusa and Karino though. Kuze scares me and I just want atsumu to be safe. 😰
Senzaki and tatsumi are extremely interesting, hoping they show up again. I'm confused what happened to the student teacher btw. He just disappears?

Oh my sweet summer child, Atsumu.
It's actually very interesting seeing an 'innocent' character stuck in this system and this volume answers the question of 'why can't they just tell someone about the game?', which I believe to be a big plot hole, but they answered it in the next volume.
Also, im very interested in the 'couple' that was shown in the last 2 chapters.
