Jay Morningstar was the first rule I ever broke.

From the first couple pages I could easily tell that this book wasn't for me. I didn't have many expectations for this book, but I did expect a good romance.

Sadly, Edge of Glory didn't deliver.

I can tell that from the author's note that Magan Vernon is such a strong person, and that this story means a lot to her- so nothing in this review is against her as a person.

From the beginning, however, there was the worst instalove. If there's one thing I hate about romances, it's definitely that. Jay Morningstar, rich and famous swimmer, suddenly walks into the restaurant that Lia works at: and suddenly is all over her.

I felt no chemistry, found their conversations pretty boring, and I was constantly questioning as to why they were together. From the second he walks into the restaurant, he's head over heels for the girl and I just couldn't understand why?

“Well, can I call you later?”
I didn’t know how to answer that. He was probably just being nice. That’s all it was. He didn’t want a girl that he had to chase. A loser like me.

I mean, Lia's a GROWN WOMEN. She works, has her own car, is in college, etc. and yet is absolutely terrified of her 'strict parents'. I say strict parents in quotations because 2 months into Jay/Lia dating, they let her fly to Cali with him and spend the weekend......... Not to mention the fact that she could never take a joke and was always putting herself down. I get being hard on yourself, we all are, but this was just ridiculous.

I'm not even going to go into the moments where there was the clique bitchy ex-girlfriend, the clique outgoing best friend, a weird reality tv thing, pointless drama thrown in the end, and Lia constantly saying things like this:

"I wasn’t drowning anymore.
I didn’t need my walls.

He was going to save me."

3 Deep End of the Pool Stars
*** Spoiler Free - Right Now Free
Remember when that book He's Just Not That Into You came out... well, for some reason this book caused me to be that guy...Crazy... because I came to this book caught up in the idea of an Olympic level swimmer and a young 20 year old having the time of their lives.

As much as there were humorous scenes with the strict Italian family, caring and loving with strong dashes of situations of possible embarrassment for our gal, I just felt I was not the right reader for this book. I understood all of the conflicts and concerns of a 20 year old woman with an over protective family...the push/pull of wanting to break free and explore the world, etc. The love they all felt for each other was a strength.

What was difficult for me was the main love interest. His actions with our gal were at times extremely thoughtless. She had no experience to be able to adapt to his world and he failed to truly look out for her. The flip side of this was their real attraction and want for each other... which caused the feeling of disappointment when he was thoughtless.

So, I think my feelings for this book had more to do with me then the target audience because I am decades away from YA/NA...Which goes back to why I just might not have been into this book...
I will say the author shared a strong Preface on the writing and reasons for this story. It is very revealing and I commend her perseverance and wish her all the success in the world.

Ms. Vernon is a new author for me. I am a sucker for sports romance so I was happy to try this book. This is one of those books that I just really had trouble connecting with the characters. Also, the family drama was not handled in an interesting way. Overall, it’s pretty decent and readable.

DNF @ 30%

I made myself get to the 30% mark, but I'm Done.

I'll add this spoiler tag for those that don't necessarily care one way or the other about my rants...

*deep breath* Ok, rant done...

With that being said....

I'm sure plenty others will not have issues with the fluffy, light read that I had started. Especially those that like instalove type stories (again -- they don't actually get to the L word, but it sure seemed like it was going that way). It just wasn't for me ;)

It's hot to feel the rush,
To brush the dangerous
I'm gonna run right to, to the edge with you
Where we can both fall far in love - Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga -

I really can't remember how I stumbled across this book. I checked the author's website out and saw that ARCs could be requested so I applied and got one.

For a change it is a romance with a swim theme so not your typical football, hockey etc. Which means that it is refreshing and different.

Jay Morningstar an Olympian swimmer who is trying to get back on the right track. He comes from Hollywood and he is one of the rich and famous. He is made out to be a dumb jock and with some of his escapades when he his fame get to him that it was the truth. He moves out to Friendship, Texas to concentrate on his swimming again. Until he finds something he likes more than swimming.

Rosalia 'Lia' Conti is socially awkward with no experience with boys/men, her Sicilian family is very overprotective. Her interactions with her family and generally her family were an absolute riot. Throw in a cheeky brother, a goat that shares crisps with her Nonna and a loud father and you'll be laughing your arse off. She has insecurities and she lets everyone play on those insecurities.

There were a lot of things that irritated me about this book.

I felt like it had more of a YA feel to it than a NA but that could have been to the secondary characters Sofie, Scotty etc. because when the MCs where alone it a NA vibe to it.

Jay was a great Hero UNTIL he got back to L.A. for his sisters reality TV show marriage. Then he turned into an utter douchecanoe. I wanted to rip his bollocks off and make him eat them. Yes I feel very strongly about this as Lia was the one who suffered the most.

There was also a sweet epilogue included and I really hope that Sonny gets a book.

This book did suck me and I enjoyed every moment of it. So my personal feelings a side and the issues that I had it then deserves 4 Stars but due to the problems I had I would give it 3 Stars instead.

The foreword mentions how important this book is to her and I think that one can really tell.

This is simply put, an easy read. I didn’t find there to be an inordinate about of depth, and at times it was rather anticlimactic, BUT! Sometimes these are the perfect types of stories to read after you’ve experienced something overly emotional or angsty. If your settling into a beach chair for a day, put up your feel and jump into this book. It’ll keep you in the mood while soaking up some rays.

I loved Magan’s song usage throughout the book. There were different styles from different eras, but most importantly, her usage of Lady Gaga’s anthem, Edge of Glory. It fits perfectly with not only the accompanying scenes, but with an overall theme as well. Excellent song choice, connecting it with scenes/moments to add importance, and then turning it into the title.

Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a die hard romantic. I live for swoony, sweet, cheesy stories in both the books I read and in real life. Edge of Glory definitely had some of this going on which I means of course I devoured it. At times it became almost a little too cheesy for my liking, simply because it was coming from only one character and happening constantly, but later when the cheesiness was toned back again, it was a cute read.

“I didn’t know what my feelings were for him. In the beginning, it was the thrill of the hot Olympian and now I was seeing past the guy in the Speedo to the guy that wanted to be out of the spotlight. The one who listened to records and told me I was beautiful.
Jay Morningstar was going to break me and I couldn’t stop him.”

A little tidbit that I picked up on was the heroine’s family heritage. I understand that these characters are Sicilian, but the culture don’t need to be forced into every page for me to believe it. Personally, it seemed to be over the top and unnecessary.

Realistic, this is not, but it’s certainly nice to dream that if something like this can happen to Lia, it could happen to anyone

I’m a sucker for sports romances and was ready to dive in to this story (pun intended) with the Olympics being only a few weeks away, but it was a bit of a miss for me. I just didn’t connect with the characters, didn’t feel the chemistry between Jay and Lia, and didn’t actually know why they liked each other. At times the relationship seemed unbalanced and almost one sided.

My biggest problem with this story has to be with how immature the characters were. Scratch that, the hero seemed to act his age, it was more so the heroine and her best friend. I don’t know what it was, but these two seemed to be fourteen year old girls stuck in a twenty year old body. The gossip and squealing and the way they spoke, it reminded me of freshman year in high school. These two were aggravating to say the least, especially during scenes with the two of them together.

Overall, Edge of Glory was a cutesy, new adult love story between a sheltered girl with strict parents and a famous boy whom she’s always idolized. It was an easy read with low angst, funny moments and charming dialogue. If any of those characteristics seem like something you’re looking for, be sure to pick this story up today!

BOOK REVIEW: Edge of Glory
BOOK SERIES: Friendship, Texas #1
AUTHOR: Magan Vernon
GENRE: New Adult, Sports Romance,
EXPECTED PUBLICATION DATE: July 20, 2016
CLIFF HANGER: No

3.5 Stars

SYNOPSIS:
"Welcome to Conti's. I'm Lia and I'll nguhhhhhhhhhhhhh".

I froze. Directly facing me was Olympic swimmer, Jay Morningstar… and I just made an idiot of myself.

The rest of the table looked up to see me standing there with my mouth practically gaping. His coach, who I recognized from TV interviews, and even two other swimmers from the Olympic team... they didn't say anything, they didn't even blink.

"Uh… I mean…"

I couldn't even put together my words and Jay Morningstar was just staring at me with that Wheaties box smile and those icy blue eyes.

What was I supposed to say? Sorry I just made a weird noise, it's just that I have a poster of you on my wall where you are wearing nothing more than your gold medals, a smile, and a pair of man panties?

MY THOUGHTS:
This is a contemporary, new adult, sports romance. It is definitely written with new/young adults in mind and it is a quick, enjoyable summer read. It is a sweet love story with a little heat. It had humor with a snarky awkward heroine and a handsome, famous, or is it infamous, Olympic swimmer! Ryan Lochte is the muse for this story and with the 2016 Olympics coming up next month made this read all the more fun for me.

Jay description

Jay Morningstar came from an affluent southern California family. His sister is a reality star, hot mess actress and his ex-girlfriend is an equally hot mess reality star and friend of his sister. Jay worked hard to get where he is in the swimming world, although his fame after winning eight gold medals at the last Olympics went to his head and he partied hard and got into trouble. He had to work very hard to get back in the good graces of the swimming community again. He was in Friendship, Texas training with his coach and a few teammates, when he met Lia. There were supposed to be no distractions here in Texas, but her couldn’t get Lia out his head.

Lia description

Rosalia (Lia) Conti is the youngest child and only daughter to a very overprotective, immigrant Sicilian family. Her parents owned the only Italian restaurant in her small town, and the entire family worked there. Her family was a riot; loud and in your face and business all the time. Lia didn’t date much because she didn’t want to have to deal with her family. She is a student working on the last few classes before obtaining her Associates Degree and then she wanted to transfer to her dream university, USC to study music management. Her family wanted her to stay and go to a university in Texas. She had a huge crush on Jay Morningstar for years and even had a huge poster of him in his speedos on her bedroom wall. So when she came face to face with this beautiful man, she was speechless.

The story line follows the courtship of Lia and Jay. Jay pursued Lia and she just didn’t understand how he wanted to be with her, she had insecurities that caused problems with their relationship. They have quite a few hurdles to jump through, or swim through, to get to their HEA. Lia has walls that she puts up to protect her heart. She uses sarcasm and humor to diffuse situations. She is a virgin and doesn’t want to just give herself to someone unless she is ready to give her heart. There are a few sexy scenes towards the end of the book, so if you are looking for a steamy read, then this isn’t the book for you.

This is such a sweet love story with some drama involving both families and the pressures of dealing with the press, obnoxious mean girls and Lia’s crazy family, which includes her Nona and her Nona’s pet goat that acts more like a dog. There is a lot of laugh out loud moments with her crazy family and friends.

If you want a sweet heat sports romance, give this one a try.

I'd heard of Magan Vernon for a while but this is my first ever read from her. Sadly, this book was kind of touch and go for me. I was all pumped for this read, as the Olympics are a month away (*even though Brazil looks to be in ruins*), but this one errrmmm was just okay. I just did not connect with the plot line nor the characters at all. There wasn't anything that point blank stood out for me, aside from the eye rolling cliches that we readers typically tend to come across, not to mention the blend of the story ploys that I did not understand its substance to be included within this novel. I'm not saying that I hated this read although my review does heavily tend signals otherwise...it's just, story wise, it was alright. I believe it will satisfy some readers' cup of tea but it did not entirely do so for me. There were a lot of cons than there were pros in my opinion. But still, do not let me sway you from picking up this book if you're truly interested in it. It may just work out for you.

3.5 stars.

Recently I've been in a weird reading mood. All I've wanted to read was romance, which is slightly unusual for me. I really like the genre, but over the past couple of years I've been reading epic fantasy instead. I have a lot of Magan Vernon's books on my tbr, and have heard great things about them. I decided to start with Edge of Glory, and I'm so glad I did. I greatly enjoyed the book.

From the first chapter, I loved the main character, Lia. I found her to be very relatable. Personally, I had a strict parent growing up so I was easily able to place myself in her shoes. When she was heartbroken, I was able to sympathize with her a lot. She was very awkward and kind of nerdy, which I could also relate to. I loved her sense of her humor, and her storyline. It was great to finally read a book where the awkward, nerdy girl gets the guy. I loved that.

There were a couple of issues that I did have with the book. At times, it seemed like the author was trying to force funny scenes, and it just came out awkward and unauthentic. It pulled me out of the story. Also, other than Jay and Lia, I didn't connect with any of the side characters. They seemed like they were there just to be there. They didn't add anything to the plot. Lastly, what Jay does in the car near the end of the book, while original, was a complete jerk move. That automatically took it down a star rating for me. It wasn't cute, or romantic. If I was Lia, I'd be mad that he put my sister-in-law in that position. If I was Dana, I would have strangled him then and there.

Even though I had a couple of problems with Edge of Glory, I really did enjoy this book. I ended up finishing it in less than a day because I couldn't put it down. It's rare to find a book with a main character that is relatable on so many different levels. I didn't connect with any of the side characters, so I doubt I will continue this series. However, I definitely plan on reading more of Magan Vernon's books in the future. I enjoy her writing style, and the way she tells a story.

description

I honestly don’t even know hot to start this review. When I read the blurb, I was super excited, I mean, it sounds super fun, and an olympic swimmer? Sign me up. Unfortunately this book didn’t live up to my expectations… it didn’t even came close to it, and it actually pains me to be writing this review, and I don’t want to insult the author, not even for a second. But I’m a fair reviewer, and I don’t shy away from bad reviews, so here we go…

I thought the writing in this book was OK… the story is told in Lia’s POV, on the first person, and it somewhat works. I think it would have been somewhat better if Jay’s POV would have been part of the story too, because there are some points of the plot that are still a bit muddied in my head.

I had huge problems with all the characters of this book. All of them. Honestly I didn’t like anyone, and that’s never good.

Lia, our main character, is a weak person. That could be super ok, because not everyone at 19/20 is a strong person, but she shows no growth whatsoever during this book. She let’s her future be decided entirely by her parents, she chooses a path that she’s not even sure she likes, she moons over a boy that she doesn’t truly know. She makes ONE decision for herself during the book, and she retracts it the very next morning when she apologizes for something she shouldn’t. She also can’t take a joke and she’s always doubting herself and putting herself down. It’s annoying and sad! Take a look:

Dana smiled, pushing me toward the girl. “My sister-in-law is looking for a dress to wear to a wedding in California.”

“Oh, California! Awesome. Anything in particular you’re looking for?” The girl asked.

I shrugged. “Something that doesn’t make me look like a whale?”

The girl laughed nervously. “What size? Any color? Style?”

Jay is not much better, though I liked him a bit better. He does know what he wants out of life, so a point for him, but still, he did some things so wrong during this book, that I didn’t even know where that was coming from.

The supporting characters are caricatures and clichés, and mostly annoying and pointless.

My biggest problem with this book, by miles, was the representation of the patriarchy and chauvinism. I know there are a lot of controlling families, where the men sit at the table while the women do all the work. I know it exists, it’s sad, but that’s not what bothered me. What irked me what how the main characters went along with this. I will tell you before hand, Lia is 19 and Jay is 20!!!! Lia goes to university, works, owns a car, and while she still lives with her parents, she shouldn’t be treated like a 13 yo. She shouldn’t allow them to treat her as one. Instead, things like this happen all the time during the book:

“What I was telling your dad is that Jay meant no disrespect by taking you out without his permission,” Jay’s coach said. “I didn’t even know that your father didn’t know about this relationship until Jay told me at practice this morning. I figured it’s why he’s messing up his sets. Since I have a daughter of my own, I sympathized with your father and told him that he had to come clean.”

I will say again how she’s a grown woman, because that looks like a teen thing, right? Then there’s this:

“Mr. Conti…” Jay turned his attention toward my dad. “I’m sorry for thinking that Rosalia had your permission to go out with me and my friends and I promise it won’t happen again.”

Then to make matters worse (in my opinion), this is her brother’s argument, so their dad will “allow” his grown up daughter to date an olympic swimmer:

“That’s right. Business has been great. People from Dallas are coming into the restaurant now. And come on, Pops.” Sonny slid his arm around my dad, shooting a wink in my direction. “It’s not like guys are really banging down our door to get to Lia.”

I have so many problems with that whole exchange. SO MANY! But then Jay goes and does something as chauvinist as her father and brother:

Slowly he peeled his shirt off, revealing his sweaty and very toned torso, then he handed me his shirt. “You wouldn’t mind washing my clothes too, would you? I didn’t expect a workout when I got here.”

I honestly can’t deal with this shit. She puts herself down, and let’s everyone around her do the same. Even when Jay tries to tell her she should relax and not think too much, she can’t. She doubts and thinks the most stupid things:

He reached into his pocket and I sucked in a breath. Was he going to pull out a joint? Even worse, what if it was a condom?

I should mention that they were on a private plane… the likelihood of Jay taking out either of those items was very very small…

I’ve mentioned that she felt too young, right? She did, not only didn’t she stick up for herself, but her knowledge of guys, relationships, sex or her own body was beyond limited. I’ve read a lot of books where the MC was a virgin, and had very little experience with guys, but none as clueless and stupid as this one. There’s a particular moment in this book where I wanted to chuck my phone to the wall, because I couldn’t believe her stupidity. I mean, I’m pretty sure that for a moment there she might have thought that she could get pregnant from stray semen on the swimming pool… and then there’s the fact that she thought she was bleeding because of a finger, and not because of her period… yeah… bright girl, this one.

The romance was the biggest case of instalove that I ever read about. She saw him and was struck, I kind of get that because she had been fantasising about him for a long time, but then he sees her and is basically in love himself. Within very little time they are boyfriend and girlfriend, he’s meeting her family, she’s cooking for him and his friends. Is this all bad? No. I can deal with insta-whatever, but the relationship has to make sense, and the couple needs to have chemistry. These two didn’t make sense and had 0 chemistry!

Then there are just weird things in this book, like his family’s reality show, his ex-girlfriend, and the conflict that comes between them. It was beyond weird. I didn’t like the conflict or the resolution. Or the second conflict. Or the fact that Lia “fought” her battles through hashtags on instagram…

In the end I was livid by the way that things came together to her. She gets to go study far from home, but not because she stuck to her dreams and wants and convinced her parents that it was the right things for her. Oh no. She manages to do it, because her mother says that she can go do whatever and she’ll support her. But Lia NEVER stood her ground. Not for a single second, and ultimately that’s what bothered me the most. Because by the way this family is presented, it would be the perfect situation for her to assert herself, and she never did.

I honestly can’t recommend this book at all. But I have to say that I seem to be the only one, because goodreads is full of 5 and 4 stars reviews for this book. So, I’ll urge you to check them out and decide for yourself if this book might be for you or not.

Most of this book is Lia worrying about her virginity. Then some conflict is thrown in that is never resolved except by Jay saying he loves her and not to believe what the media says. They are supposed to be 20 but act like they're 15/16. Lia's phone buzzes multiple times to interrupt them in multiple situations, yet when she checks she only has one text message. Which phone buzzes multiple times for one message?? Jay has supposedly won gold multiple times at the Olympics, yet he was rejected from the Olympic team when he was 15... where did he get all those medals from then? He's also constantly eating pizza and other unhealthy stuff and he vapes... that's not how you become a gold medalist. This book was a mess and not in a good way.

Lia is a waitress at her parent's restaurant. Jay is an Olympic swimmer and is staying in Texas to train. Jay is trying to make a comeback in his sport, and Lia is trying to prove to her parents that she is a mature adult.

Lia is a too much a doormat for me. She is almost 20 years old, and she still lacks most experiences that most kids her age have due to her strict parents. She is always doing things to please them instead of following her own dreams. I also felt like they were hypocritical. They let her brother, Sonny, doe whatever he wanted, but they were always controlling Lia. She did eventually start to try to stand up to them.

Jay was a celebrity and usually overlooked situations. I felt like he sometimes had good intentions, but he used the "I am a dumb jock and don't know any better." excuse too much when he was asking for forgiveness. He put Lia in several awkward situations without thinking of the consequences or looking out for Lia's best interests. To me, if he loved her as much as he proclaimed, he would have never let some of the scenes play out the way they did.

Honestly, I was surprised she forgave him as quickly as she did, and several times she apologized when it should have been him apologizing. I think there should have been more groveling on his part and proof that he had changed.

Overall, it was a cute read. I loved the sports romance aspect of the book and was glad to see some character growth towards the end of the book. I will definitely be reading more from this author and continuing this series.

Audible Review:
Overall 4*
Performance 4*
Story 3.5*

Sweet romance.
Edge of Glory is a sweet NA novel. Although there is some drama, it doesn't have the over-the-top angst you'd typically find in most books featuring characters in their late teens/early twenties. There were a couple frustrating moments for me, due to some of the things that happened. But then I reminded myself these are young adults, (more on the young side than adult), and realized their actions and reactions were definitely realistic for their ages!

I enjoyed this story. It was a light, easy read (listen), but engaging. Jay and Lia were really cute and I loved Lia's family. I love the thought of a small town girl falling for her celebrity crush, and how she, and everyone around her, deals with it. Jay was a sweetie, even when he was being a clueless boy!
To me, Lia's character was very true to life. I liked that she wasn't perfect and put together, that she had her insecurities and weaknesses.
I thought Kassiopia did a terrific job giving voice to those insecurities. Her overall portayal of Lia was great, and I really appreciated that she sounded like a 20 year old.
The narration as a whole very good, she nailed the accents!

Edge of Glory was the first book in the Friendship Texas series by Magan Vernon.

I am taking a break from formal reviews for a while, but a couple quick thoughts: Edge of Glory was a sweet (vs steamy) storyline filled with life lessons regarding fame, virginity, overprotective parents, growing up and building relationships. It was a sweet, emotional story at times and a good start to the series.

I'm new to this author and I must say I really enjoyed her book. I've never read a book about a swimmer before. Was interesting how she took something that she's passionate about and made it into a story. That characters were well built and the story was attention grabbing.

I enjoyed this book, it was a sweet story. There was insta love but isn't that what reading is all about - escapism! Lia meets the man that she has the poster of on her wall in her family restaurant and she is stuck for words! He likes her too and so begins the tentative start to a romance - with a few hurdles on the way - he is an Olympian so comes with fame, groupies and a persistent ex! Oh and not to forget Lia's over protective family! Makes a change from meeting a rock star. I have picked up book 3 as I want to know more about Lia's best friend Sofie.

I’m so happy there is finally a book about swimming! My son is swimmer, so I know all the hours and commitment the sport involves. Edge of Glory wasn’t just a love story between two individuals, it was also a love story by Vernon to the sport of swimming.
Lia is from a small town in Texas, and she has a big, loving, and at times, hugely overprotective Italian family. She waitressing in her family’s restaurant when the very object of her dreams, Olympic swimmer, Jay Morningstar, comes in with some of his fellow teammates. She’s completely stunned that he notices her. Before long, the two begin dating. However, there will be obstacles they will face, such as insecurities, misunderstandings, and dating in the national spotlight.

I love a great story with great characters, and this book had both. Their romance didn’t develop too fast or too slow. While they had great chemistry, they didn’t automatically jump into bed together. I loved the banter between Lia and Jay. They truly enjoyed being around one another.

I really liked Jay and Lia. Each had their faults which made them more realistic, and this made me connect more with them. Lia was extremely insecure at times, but she doesn’t have a lot of dating experience. And, her romance is played out in the public eye, and she had to endure some really nasty comments. She retreated from Jay, and he would have to work hard to reassure her. However, she did mature, and it was wonderful seeing her mature and believe in herself. At times, I felt like Jay forgot that Lia wasn’t used to the kind of life he lived. As Lia did, he matured, and thankfully, never gave up on her. They really complemented one another. He gave her confidence and helped her take risks. She grounded him because she loved him for who he was as a person, not just because he was an Olympic swimmer.

In addition to loving the main characters, I loved the secondary characters as well, especially Lia’s family and her friend, Sofie. Her family could drive her crazy, but it’s refreshing to read a book in which the character has a great loving and supporting family. I’m so interested in seeing some of the secondary characters getting their own stories…there is a lot of material for them. Vernon did a great job of giving readers just enough about them to really want to know more about them.

I highly recommend reading Edge of Glory if you are looking for something original and fresh. I guarantee you will want to be a part of the Conti family and a resident of Friendship, Texas. Thank you, Magan Vernon, for not only a great romance but for shedding some light on the sport of swimming and the dedication and commitment it requires.

I picked this up because I saw the DNF instalove reviews and I was ALL over that shit. Unfortunately, I think that set me up to be disappointed even more than I would have been if I didn't see that. While there is a very big instalike/lust I didn't feel the love. I actually didn't feel much of a connection between the characters at all for most of the book.

My biggest pet peeve was the OW stuff and how the "drama" of the book was handled. Personally, if my boyfriend (for a few months!) lets his ex-girlfriend "ride on his back" even for a wedding stunt and kisses him then he continues to laugh it off, ignores me and tokes it up the guy would be single in about the time it takes me to cross the dance floor. So the fact that the h got upset then started yammering on about how she builds walls and everyone in her life says the same thing about the situation and so she feels guilty? Look everyone has their issues. Short side trip for a life lesson feel free to ignore this shit............Her bad habit of building walls does not negate his bad behavior and fuck her, him, and her friends/family for saying it does. Then she later finds out after the wedding and he continued to go out with ex girlfriend after she ran off upset and he gets kissed again, doesn't tell her and comes back to get a handjob from the upset girlfriend because she was feeling guilty from running off. Oh and he LIED and said he spent the rest of the night with his sister. The creates a "break" in the relationship after which the h suddenly realizes she cant live without him. No apologies for being a spineless asshole that never even apologizes for his shit. I could never believe in this HEA with how the H acted.

oh byline of course the h is a virgin

I will give him this, he states he never kisses her back and he told her he loved the h.

Yeah that pissed me off and basically made me write off the characters. 2 stars for the writing and the fact that I enjoyed the book up until the stupid drama.

Edge of Glory by Megan Veron is a sweet sports romance between an Olympic swimming star and a small town nerdy girl. Lia Conti has never been the life of the party. Growing up with strict Sicilian parents and working in the family restaurant Lia hasn't had the chance to spread her wings. The last person in the world Lia thought would walk through her family's restaurant door is the man who's poster she has up on her wall. Jay Morningstar has everything anyone could want: fame, fortune & a career he loves but after some ill thought out decisions Jay has found he might have put what he loves the most as risk. Training in Friendship, TX was suppose to take away distractions but Jay can't get Lia off his mind. Can these two from completely different worlds find even ground? Or will fear of the unknown and outside sources come between them?

I read the blurb for this book and I was like "Sold". I'm a sucker for a sports romance and with the Olympics just around the corner I couldn't resist. It's a sweet love story we follow in Edge of Glory, a little tamer than I'm use to but enjoyable none the less. I understood Lia's fears and why she's hesitant with Jay. Jay seems so open it just seemed that it might be too good to be true. Jay is down to earth and just pain lovable you can't help but fall in love with him. This was my 1st read by Megan Vernon but I'm sure it won't be my last. 4 Stars for Edge of Glory

Lia is a waitress at her families restaurant. She’s always been over protected. Never really had a boyfriend and the mean girls call her a lesbian. Yeah, that is until Mr. Jay Morningstar walks in the building. The Olympian that Lia has slightly been obsessing over for awhile.

Their falling in love together is so endearing. You see her go through all the issues anyone faces. Am I good enough for him? Is he just going to leave me? I mean they had some awkward moments together. But all in all Jay really won me over. He was sincere, even when the media twisted the story. Or his crazy ex-girlfriend following him around.

I loved Lia’s growth through out this story. She really went from a girl who thought she was not much, to one that knew what she had. She knew that she was always going to be beautiful in Jay’s eyes.

I loved that he was a swimmer. I haven’t read very many books with swimmers. But it is one of my favorite things to watch during the summer Olympics.

This is the very first book I’ve read of Magan’s. So I looked her up to see what else she has out. And she has like a million books that will be going up on my TBR list. What I love most as a reviewer, is finding these seriously amazing stories and these writers that I’ve never heard of.

Overall, I give this book Five HUGE Boundless Stars. It’s going up on my top reads of 2016....Lissa

Edge of Glory is a quick, humor filled romance. Lia is a hilarious heroine, trying to overcome her own insecurities and an incredibly overbearing Italian family. Jay is the ever charming, attractive Olympic swimmer, more than ready to try and sweep Lia (and her family) off her feet.

The Edge of Glory will satisfy any sports romance lover. The romance is sweet and sexy, the characters have good chemistry, and there is a good balance of drama and humor.

The love was a little instalove for my own personal preference. While the romance is a sort of whirlwind, it all felt just a little too rushed. The other thing that bothered me a bit was Lia's family. I have no idea if Italian families are actually like this or Magan was playing with it or what, but I found them more annoying than endearing most of the time, though I feel like I was perhaps supposed to feel the latter. The end was adorable and lovely (my kind of happily ever after ending) but her family's sudden change of heart and the speed at which it all happened left me wanting a little more.

Overall, a sweet and sexy story with a nice touch of humor and mostly naked athletes. Hit the spot when I was wanting a solid romance with a hot athlete. Recommended for any lover of Ryan Lochte, sports romances, and a quick, cute love story.

4.5 stars

Sports romance is a sub genre I love to read so when I saw this novel was about an Olympic swimmer, I had to jump on it.

Edge of Glory has an unexpected story line that caught me by complete surprise. With an overbearing, meddling family, and two young adults determined to create a life they desire, we get to see the obstacles they must overcome to reach their goals. They're influenced by those around them and it wasn't easy to ignore. While every hurdle wasn't easy, and there were times I wanted to jump inside the book and shake some sense into the heroine, I really adored this story. It left me smiling until the very end.

I've had author Magan Vernon on my radar for a long time now. After I finished this book, I realized I should've started reading her years ago when I bought The Only Exception. The writing flowed so naturally and the characters are easy to relate to. Edge of Glory was light and sweet and full of heart. A real pleasure to read.

I liked it but sometimes it was a bit pff and grr.
In the beginning Magan explained how she came up with this one, and what it all means
to her. So I have lot's of respect for her and this book.
But that's also not really a reason for me to give it a star more than what I felt.
I really really love Alpha and Caveman but Jay just wasn't that.
I mean a caveman would never put up with all the bullshit that the ex-bitch
did. Sometimes I wanted to pull my hair out and scream at Jay and that bitch.
Sorry for the nickname but somehow I forgot her name.. Wonder why?

When you finally let someone in, well lets just say those walls go up automatically when you're so sure it will never go right. Or you just don't think it' where you belong. It's a matter of trust and the public gossip doesn't help with those decisions. Giving love a chance can be inspiring, scary and heartbreaking all at the same time. Will they finally talk and see they want the same things? Or will the gossip keep them apart?
Fantastic read, exciting, heart wrenching and powerful. Even wanted to do a little happy dance at the end.

5 amazing stars for this book. So I can't believe this is the first book I've read by Magan but that will change asap. This book will suck you in and you will not want to put it down until the last word is read. I immediately feel in love with Lia, she's just so down to earth and her awkwardness is down right endearing. As for Jay yeap he's a keeper all right and his awkwardness around Lia is cute considering his a famous Olympian. Also the side characters in this book are amazing, I can't wait for their books. This book had me laughing out loud and crying into my pillow and then wanting to beat some girls. I absolutely loved this book and would recommend everyone to read it.

Once I started this book I just couldn't put it down!! I fell in love with the characters and the story right away! hell it even reminded me of my crazy Sicilian family! This story is about opening yourself up to what you thought wasn't possible, to believing that you're worthy of love even if the past tells you that you're not.., believe that you're worthy of loving and being loved.. of having someone that will rock your world and destroy your walls for the best! This was my first book from this author and it will definitely not be my last! *ARC provided in exchange of an honest review*

Jay is a Olympic swim star who is a heartthrob to many woman and is nearly posted on every females wall. Rosalia is a student and a waitress in her families Italian restaurant. She would never believed in a hundred years her bedroom poster boy would be at her table. Jay takes interest in her right away and Lia can't believe it. Little naive and not really comfortable with her looks why would he want to date her. But another problem is her strict parents. Can this be real and work or will fame and a ex take this into another direction.

This book just really missed the mark for me. It's meant to be NA, but it really felt YA and I just couldn't feel invested in the characters or their little relationship. It sort of felt like my 13 year old nephew was telling me he's met "The One". Meh

I usually enjoy YA without a problem, but this particular book just felt too young for me. If you do like a youthful YA love story then this one might be for you!

I read this in one day! It was such a great story. My only concern was with Lia's best friend.... She was annoying as all hell! It seemed like she was 14 not 20 years old. Also, I'm having a hard time picturing what Lia looks like. The story was well-written despite my inability to picture Lia. The characters (minus the BFF) were all very well developed and interesting. Will read more from this author.
