Zeno’s satisfied being a grunt among the super-soldier hybrids of Luna Lodge. He’s never been a deep thinker, but he respects his leaders and is happy to be the guy they drop in when they need trouble shut down with a little muscle. He’s annoyed when he’s ordered to accompany another team on a mission to Peru. The main mission’s fine, but he doesn’t like the idea that he’s also being sent to check on Ava, the flighty sister of the mate of another hybrid. As far as he’s concerned, it’s a waste of his talents to check on some grown woman on vacation. Ava thought she’d found true love with Antonio on a cruise. Now she’s the prisoner of a dangerous criminal. As far she knows, no one is coming to check on her, so it’s up to her to get away from him before her captor tires of her. When Zeno and Ava cross paths, they both realize Antonio is far more than he appears. If they are going to escape with their lives, they are going to have to remain focused. Unfortunately, their burning attraction for each other is more than a little distracting.
Madison currently lives with her husband and two children in the Valley of the Sun. Phoenix, Arizona. After leaving the frozen tundra of the north, Madison was more surprised than anyone with how much she has enjoyed living in the desert. Seeing as she had stated on more than one occasion how much she hated the heat, it was an odd move. But it seemed her hatred for sub-zero temps and ice, or really the things that ice could do, won out in the end. When she’s not writing, she’s enjoying time with her family. Madison and her family frequent festivals in the area, as well as local cultural events, and spend time with family in the area. In the summer she is most likely to be found in the pool with the family and in the winter by the fireplace. Since both her children are autistic, days can be a little chaotic but with her husband beside her, there’s nothing she can’t handle. Luckily he is also an author and able to share in all the activities (and chores) special needs kids require. Madison has a full schedule of releases planned for 2014 listed and updated on her blog: http://madisonstevens.blogspot.com/ Newsletter Sign-up: http://eepurl.com/OX9r5
Plot: Our H Zeno is the brawn and muscle guy of Luna Lodge. Gets recruited to rescue Paige's sister Ava, a flighty and selfish lady, who has gotten mixed up with a very bad guy Antonio, and is being potentially held as a prisoner. We flash to her side, where evil creepy guy is almost molesting and assaulting her, and killing anyone who tries to help her. Zeno helps her escape, but soon everyone realizes that Antonio might be hiding dangerous secrets himself, that affect the safety of the whole Luna Lodge. Oh, and Ava is his vestal.
Romance: Average with Ok sex scenes.
Pet-peeve: The very graphic torture and assault scenes. NOPE. And the bad guys are TRULY disgusting and evil. I do not like this in my light romances. Also, the author made the hero sound stupid, and heroine extremely superficial. Not likable characters.
Angst: Medium. The scenes of Anita and Piero broke my heart.
"Zeno was satisfied being the guy other people told what to do."...
Zeno is one of the grunts, and he has no issues with his place. A leader needs people to lead after all, and he is skilled at completing the missions his leader gives him... though something more interesting than guard duty would be nice.
When Justus and Paige got together Paige mentioned her concerns about her sister Ava. The hybrids have a mission headed to the neck of the woods Ava is in, and given their tight knit nature it isn't much of a surprise Titus is willing to have someone check up on Ava.
One of the recurring themes in this series has been family, how these brothers in arms have been the closest any of them have to family, how the women coming into their lives have given them a new, almost unheard of sense of hope when it comes to family, and in more recent stories the understanding on actual sibling dynamics, and how similar they indeed can be to team dynamics.
Something about this one didn't get me like the others have been. Maybe it's the break I had between books, but I kept getting annoyed with the characters. She ran off at one point and honestly I don't think I've seen something that dumb in a while. It's like people want to die lol.
It was an OK read, but I don't think anything really happened to add to the series AT ALL. Sure there was some mind control shown for half a page, but really, that could have been in any book for how small it was lol. A hint at another company, people are now buying monsters to control. I dunno, overall I didn't like where it went and just want to get back home to the Lodge lol.
I loved Zeno! He had a job to do and was determined to get it done, and his Vestal showing up threw everything off. I loved watching as he wanted with himself over how to take care of her and keep her safe while doing his job. So much heat and lots of drama! Next please!!!
I really like how, when a character is mentioned, we get their story in the next book rather than waiting a few books, edging that cliffhanger. I also like that the hybrids are powerful but still realistically limited.
Zero was a jerk up to this point. He was mean to Rachel. He challenged Marius. He was nasty to Remus. Finally we get to see a new side to him. I actually felt bad for him because he had no idea what love is. He learned the hard way. As usual for the hybrids. Ava is smart. Funny and does what she needs to when her friends are threatened. I like Ava. Good addition to the series.
Another repeat of this frequency problem that they have not addressed and now not only do we have to contend with grammatical problems, but with factual problems with the books. The casualties at Luna Lodge changed from one book to the next earlier in the series and now her sister went from no communication to a postcard to a couple of post cards.... and the last two women (books) just jumped straight into sex with a stranger without pulling me in at all :/
