A group of eighth-grade girls is out on a backcountry wilderness camping trip, led by a wilderness expert and a group of chaperones. Along the return trip to civilization, they discover they’ve been trapped in the wilderness by a life-altering event. One that proves to be deadly.
After a few days, their predicament becomes apparent. No rescue is coming, despite savage dangers. The campers must stick together and fend for themselves.
Meanwhile, an even more sinister threat awaits them should they survive. Beyond their patch of wilderness, the whole world is changing, and not for the better. One chaperone steps up to lead the children and hundreds of refugees who join them on a journey into an unknown future. The fate of the region’s remnant of humankind hangs in the balance, tipping toward death.
