Tangled Desires #3

Cocky F@#ker

Rate this book
I came home to Reverence to start over, not to cozy up to Chelsea F*cking Taylor. Again.

My brother’s ex should have been off-limits, but she wasn’t. Not when we were teens. Not when I married her. And definitely not now.

I thought after I walked away from her in Vegas we were done. I was wrong. This time my brother isn’t getting in the way of what I want. I’m going to fight for her, fight for us.

The girl f*cking loves me, she just doesn’t know it yet.

Friends, lovers, enemies, and now…

To say our relationship is complicated would be an understatement.

Damaged, demanding, a verifiable prick, Mace Hadley is my biggest mistake, but that didn’t stop the former marine from getting back into my panties the night he arrived home.

It was supposed to be one last screw you. Except he’s in my face each chance he gets, between my legs at every opportunity.

I’m not sure how long I can fight him when I still haven’t gotten over him. But I’ll go down swinging. If I give him my heart and he leaves me behind again, it’ll break me. But that’s not the worst part.

I’m having the cocky f@#cker’s baby.

Misti Murphy writes sweet and funny, sometimes frustrating and always swoony romantic comedies with just a teensy bit of angst.

When she's not writing she lives in an imaginary world full of happy humans, glitter, and unicorns.

Not that being a mother of four, plus four fur kids isn't practically the same thing. Except when they steal the Tim Tams.

Mace's book has been the best book in this series so far. It took Mace & Chelsea awhile to grow up and finally admit to each other their real feelings for each other. I'm glad they finally got it together.

Chelsea Taylor has grown up with the Hadley brothers and she’s always been close with all of them—just in different ways. Mace Hadley stepped in when his older brother stepped out, and he hasn’t been able to wrap his head around it since. But now Mace is back in town and his love-hate attraction to Chelsea has come full circle.

This third book in the Tangled Desires series overlaps the first two books in time frame. While it can be read as a standalone, its flow is a bit choppy as the events of the first two books are vaguely interspersed and passage of time can get a bit murky.

None the less, if you’ve read the previous titles, you can guess that Mace and Chelsea’s relationship is…complicated. Turns out they have ten years of attraction, animosity, misunderstandings, and burning desire.

“I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have a nice bone in his body, well unless I count the one I was riding minutes ago.” –Chelsea

Told via Mace and Chelsea’s alternating first person point of view, there’s plenty of entertaining and dirty banter. This is most definitely a steamy read that’s hot right from the start.

“‘Let’s say I slipped. That I fucking slipped and landed right between your legs.’ He grasps my knees and thrusts them apart, stepping between them. Grabbing the waistband of his pants, I yank him to me. A solid wall of heat and hardness that has me moaning into his mouth. ‘You slipped and your cock just happened to land in my pussy.’”

The duo has to overcome quite a few perceived obstacles and seriously get in touch with their feelings. I’ll admit there were times when I would have liked to see more development scenes and a little less ping-pong with their relationship. But the climax definitely delivers and the reveal at the end was absolutely swoonworthy! I literally squealed in delight. You just don’t see that ‘relationship angle’ often enough in current contemporary romance.

“‘Any man who wouldn’t fight for the woman he can’t breathe without would be a fool.’” –Mace

Can Mace get past his issues with his brother? Can he come to grips with his time in the Marines? How will Chelsea and Mace handle all the elephants in the room? Can they deal with becoming parents?

“God, I hope it’s a pink one. Another girl to balance out the overdose of testosterone the Hadley men produce.” –Chelsea

As far as the characters go, I liked both Mace and Chelsea and while they had their fair share of miscommunication, I was pleased that they weren’t presented as clueless, especially Mace who had the insight to see through some of the facades. I do wish the supporting characters—the rest of the Hadley family—would been incorporated more deeply, particularly the ending where some their reactions felt scarce or forgotten. It would have made the story a bit fuller. And I’m certainly curious to learn more about Rush and hope he gets his own story where we can see more of this entertaining and colorful clan to wrap up the series.

Overall, a low angst, lighthearted, super steamy read!

Yeah this isn't going to work. I don't respect heroines that are "I'm never fucking you never ever again" the one minute and the next being "I'm so in love when he fucks me blah blah blah." Like, give the girl some convictions!!! It just makes her look brainless and pathetic to do the complete opposite of everything she says/thinks to herself.

This one was such a pain to get through due to the fact it had pretty much most of the first two books in this damn thing. So I'm giving a 3.5 star. Though I rounded up to four cause why the hell not?

Though it pretty much explains the hostility between the two MCs. And for a guy to figure out something that big that quick. He's got mad props from me.

Anyone that knows me,know that I love a friends to lovers romance so when I saw this, I was all over it. Who doesn't love a cocky guy that would do anything for the one girl he truly wants? I know I freakin do! Chelsea and Mace had all the makings to be that one couple that they write love songs about but what's a love story without all the drama and misunderstandings.

"Our entire relationship from when we were teens, for the last ten years, until now has been a series of unfinished moments". .

Chelsea and Mace has been friends since they were teenagers. Growing up with the infamous Hadley brothers has certainly gave her a backbone and the family bond that she's craved. But there has always been one brother that's stood out to her despite her dating the oldest one " Rush". That all changes one night in a barn when Mace delivers some bad news that has her leaning on him for support. Will they give into temptation or move on with the start of their new lives?

"Seeing her again, fucking her again, probably wasn’t the smartest move I could have made. But then I never claimed to be smart. Especially when it came to her.

 photo PicsArt_04-18-05.54.38_zpsyw9xhb8i.jpg

Fastforward a few years later and Chelsea is now an Adult living her own life and trying to forget about Mace. Seeing him hasn't been good for either of them with nothing but burning lust and miscommunications that has frustrated them both. How do they move on from that and try to go back being friends? After being deployed for so many years, Mace is finally back home and all he wants to do is try to adjust to civilian life and be there for his brothers. Being around Chelsea hasn't been good for his sanity or his body. But he's determined to move on and make the best of their situation. How long will that last? You just have to see.

What I really liked about this story was Mace and Chelsea's banter in the begining along with their sexual tension. Those two were a hot sweaty mess and I loved it. What I didn't like was the constant back and forth of "I want you"/I don't want you. This frustrated me to no end and I wanted them to get their sh*t together quickly. If you could overlook that part, I think you would enjoy this story.

I went into this with too high of expectations and sadly it never reached them. . . I just couldn’t wrap my head around the twisted eff’d up mess that is Chelsea. Even with the huge misunderstandings (more like deceptions they used on purpose to messed with his head) and huge gaps in communication, I still ended up siding with Mace on this one. Half the time I just ended up feeling bad for him. He fell for a girl who rejected him at every turn because of her own preconceived assumptions and insecurities, and had a brother that was selfish enough to hurt him for years because of some messed up sibling rivalry.

The drama around these two not being together could all be pointed back to Chelsea not having enough of a backbone to fight her own battles. Also wished the OM drama hadn't been so drawn out. It was just too much sniping, doubts and veiled accusations and not enough sweet or even good moments between them.

This was like that saying about assuming making an ass of you and me. Chelsea was the ass for assuming and made poor Mace an ass by default! I gave it a two because even though I liked Mace (what can I say, I enjoy a cocky bastard and Mace was this in spades! Plus the chemistry was hot!), he was just okay as a H. Sorry to say I couldn’t rate it higher, I just really couldn’t stand the h. Chelsea was always either too clueless or too selfish. She just rubbed me the wrong way. If she’d been able to pull her head out of her butt sooner rather than later this would have made a huge difference.

Thanks to everyone for the spoilers before hand! Even though this one wasn’t the right fit for me, I’m glad I tried it out anyway. I definitely would have DNF without them.

5 Finding Their Future Stars

I love this book!!

We met Mace and Chelsea back in Prick and Lady Killer. These two were literally at each other throats but their love are so strong. The bantering were of the charts and so are bed wrestling ;). They both tried to walk away from each other but.......

“I like that,” he says. “I love that even when you hated me, you couldn’t stop yourself from loving me. I love that you love me now and everyone knows it.”

So glad to have read Mace and Chelsea's story. I was really interested in knowing more about them after reading Prick Tease and Lady Killer. Mace is Claire's (from Prick Tease) older brother and has had feelings for Chelsea since they were teenagers. But she was his brother Rush's ex and he knew he shouldn't ever pursue something with her. But, as things tend to happen, they got involved more than once and they somehow ended up married years later, but then he enlisted and left her the next day and Chelsea went on with her life. But now Mace is back home in Reverance and is intent on making his wife his again, only Chelsea isn't so sure that's what she wants. She ends up pregnant and she doesn't tell him because she isn't sure he wants to be a father. Throw in older brother Rush's return, and concurrent drama with other family members, and you have the perfect romance.

I loved their story, it was passionate and filled with just the right amount of drama (not too much) and both Chelsea and Mace were really great characters. I liked Mace much more in this book than in Prick Tease, where he came across as just a one dimensional jerk of an overprotective older brother who didn't give his honorary brother (Razer) a chance to explain his real feelings for his little sister. Here, though he is cocky and overbearing, he has really strong feelings for Chelsea (and his family) and those feelings are shown in a really well written way. Chelsea too has strong feelings for Mace but she is understandably afraid to show them to Mace, considering how much he hurt her when he disappeared right after they got married.

If you are a fan of cocky guys who meet their matches with strong heroines who love them, then read this, you won't regret it!

This book definitely lives up to its title. Cocky ex-marine Mace comes back to his high school love only to find out that she isn't interested in him anymore..or so she says. Mace does everything he can to get under Chelsea's skin and make her want him. What he doesn't know is that she never stopped loving him. The only problem, there are so many secrets that surround their relationship that she isn't sure they can make it work.
Misti did a great job with some of the hottest steamiest sex I've read in a long time as well as showing the love between these characters and the family. The only reason this wasn't a 5 star for me was that there was a lot of side storylines happening at the same time with little explanation. I think probably b/c there are 2 other books that cover those stories - which I didn't read so I felt like I was missing out of stuff. I would recommend reading books 1 and 2 first.
Overall great book and I'm excited to go back and read books 1 and 2.

This was my first book my Misti and I can say that I enjoyed it. Although Chelsea dated Mace's brother Rush, it was always Mace she wanted. Even after a one night stand, they end up separating and years later, reconnect only to end up married in Vegas on a whim. Yet another separation happens and Mace ends up moving back and when Chelsea finds out, she tries to get Mace to sign papers for a separation....only a big complication ends up happening and it gets even worse when Rush shows back up! Plenty of angst, well written, and hot to boot, this was definitely an enjoyable book. Can't wait to read something else by Misti!!

Oh my goodness! I was seriously waiting on pins and needles for this story. SOOO worth the wait. I am now a huge Misti Murphy fan. She has a talent for hooking you at the beginning and not letting you go until the very last word. Mase and Chelseas story is complete insanity. Their beginning isn't pretty although intentions were good. Their ending.... now that's one I LOVE! This was a great read with all the feels and a little angst too. Mase is a dirty boy and Chelsey is too freakin sweet. Don't miss out on this series folks. Its a must read.

A ver...

This book was my favofavorite in this series. Mace and Chelsea were the best match. Loved his gruffness that is soothed by her love. Lots of great push and pull between these two. There were moments when the story kinda droned on a bit but overall it had so much to draw the reader in to really enjoy.

Chelsea and Mace get the chance to tell their story. I liked how the author remained true to the timeline. She did it smoothly and my adhd brain was able to follow along. The secrets that Mace and Chelsea both held on too were revealed, and they were able to get their hea. Third times a charm.

Mace and Chelsea’s story

As this series continues, Mace and Chelsea are still trying to figure out if what’s going on between them is real and if they could make it work. Every time they get together there’s some type of misunderstanding and Rush comes to Chelsea’s rescue.

Hmm

This is between 3.5 & 4. The story was good and I love Mace and Chelsea but most of it was backstory and repetitive from first two books. The fact I've read the series straight through may have lowered the rating.

Misti Murphy has given us another magnificent installment in the Tangled Desires series! She delivers a hot and sizzling read about a second chance romance with a little dash of a hate-love relationship. This book is filled with secrets, miscommunication, misplaced anger, decisions made out of haste, uncontrollable passion and need, and many sizzling rendezvous that will leave you breathless.

Misti Murphy gives us an arrogant and cocky alpha male who loves to push the buttons of the heroine while trying to fight off his attraction and feelings for her because she never wanted him and he wasn’t good enough. Then we have a sarcastic and witty heroine who had her heart broken by the cocky hero long ago and while she thinks she’s locked her heart away this time, he has ways to break all her chains with one smoldering look or snarky comment. Her sass and spunk rival his wit and charm and lead to some hot and steamy encounters. I couldn’t help but root for this couple to finally show their true feelings and shatter their walls the way their desires exploded when they shared the same space.

Mace Hadley had always desired something that he never saw as his: Chelsea Taylor. His older brother, Rush, had been dating her when they were younger and when he decided to leave, he left Mace to tell her the relationship was over. But that night lead to something more than he ever expected: losing his virginity with the girl he always wanted. But the next day, she’d left in a hurry to find his brother and the first wall was built around his heart laced with hurt and betrayal. As the years passed, Mace ran into Chelsea again in Vegas and this time he waited her out and she immediately came to him. That night, he thought he’d finally gotten what he wanted – married to the woman of his dreams. But once again, he found her in a situation with his brother and this time he left before he could hurt her. Coming home to Reverence after 4 years since Vegas, he expected to find himself with an annulment but he found out that she’d never found the time to do it.

Chelsea Taylor has been a part of the Hadley clan for as long as she can remember. Best friends with Clair and then Tom, she often found herself at their house and then she noticed her attraction to Mace. But so did Rush – and he easily talked her into following his lead to get Mace. But what Chelsea didn’t realize was the competition between brothers and how Rush’s plan would eventually backfire. After years of heartbreak and Mace walking out of her life, she assures herself that her old feelings are put to rest and he’s not a part of her future. Until he waltzes right back into her life full of arrogance and cocky attitude. Why does he get under her skin? She decides to get him out of her system completely by giving in to one hot night of sex but that doesn’t turn out so well. One night seems to lead to another then to another. But that first night changes their lives forever.

As the story combusts, Chelsea and Mace are propelled together and the secrets and desires that they hold so close to the vest are revealed not only to themselves but the whole family. We’re given an explosion of sweet and passionate love mixed with understanding and unspoken words filled with a decade’s worth of truth.

While this book is a stand-alone, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that this series be read in order to get the full experience of the love and closeness of the Hadley clan and to understand just how much they’ve all endeavored over the years. This book spans the timeline of the other two books so you may find out some spoilers if you read this book first. Trust me, you’ll want to read all the books!

“‘You’re calling me sweet?’ His fingers trail down to the neck of my dress, brushing along the skin there, making my breasts ache for him to touch them. ‘You don’t really think that.’”

5 cocky stars!! Ugh, this book is so good!!!

I fell in love with Mace the minute I started reading this book!! His relationship with Chelsea is a heated one, both sexually and mentally! Their story goes back to when they are teenagers and carries on over the years. Mace starts out as the sweet, innocent boy next door, but after Chelsea breaks his heart, he changes and not for the better (in most eyes). When these two are together there’s so much chemistry and angst, it almost erupts off the pages!!! I really love this series and I can’t wait to read more!

Having never read a book by Misti Murphy, I had no expectations. After consuming Cocky F@#ker, I am now obsessed and have added the first two books in the Tangled Desires series: Prick Tease and Lady Killer, to my to be read pile. Cocky F@#ker was sizzling hot and it's also second chance romance, which is one of my favorite themes. Mace and Chelsea are the epitome of secret rendezvous, wrong decisions, missed opportunities, and uncontrollable passion. I couldn't help but fall for these two lost souls and the scorching hot desire that exploded between them every time they were in each others presence.

Mace Hadley has always coveted Chelsea through their childhood friendship and her young romance with his brother Rush. She has always had his heart since he discovered girls but after years of hurt and betrayal between him and Chelsea the last thing he wanted was to pick up where they left off after strolling back into town. Of course his libido and heart have different ideas and soon tempers and sparks of arousal are flying with no end in sight. Mace checked off all my alpha must haves with his sexy innuendos, sculpted good looks, and panty melting skills. Pair him with a sassy broad like Chelsea and you have a fictional couple that would rock any reader's world.

Chelsea Taylor has finally put old feelings to rest for Mace and has her life planned out. That is until the hot broody man who rocked her past is standing in front of her in all his yummy goodness. She is not going to be pulled back in by his arrogant charm, not even for one night of hot sex reminiscent of the past...so she thinks. Her sexy, spunky, always ready for a fight attitude makes her a fierce competitor and match for anything that Mace throws her way. She is girl power to the tenth degree would have any other hero quaking in his boots, but not our dirty talking Mace. There was nothing she could dish out that he couldn't handle.

Misti Murphy delivers a searing read full of sarcasm and sexiness that pulls you in, holds your attention and is too hot to resist! I highly recommend for a read that is full of steam and romance that causes both heart palpitations and involuntary sighs. I cannot wait to step back into this fictional world and read more of the Tangled Desires series with Razer and Claire's and Tom and Gemma's story. I am sure that they are just as titillating, witty, and endearing.

I sooo love the Hadley clan from Reverence. Tommy, Claire, Mace, Rush and Razor have lives that are so full of love, hate, laughter and fights but their family love is just beautiful to read about. Through both Claire / Razors story and Tommy's story we gradually get to mert the whole clan and for Cocky F@#ker it is Mace's turn.

This bad boy, chick magnet ex marine has returned home after a traumatic accident dury his last tour. Now returning home he is faced with Chelsea Fucking Taylor ( ms Murphys name not mine ), the one woman who has him by the balls. After marrying her in a drunken haze while in Vegas, he expects to come home to an annulment, but what is gets is a pissed off woman who despite the fact wants to hate him, can't stay awat from him. Just one night, thats all.... HA - nope! One night turns into many, but that 1st night will have major repercussions for both Mace and Chelsea (Hells as sheis affectionately called).

Weeks pass and as the banter between the two become almost ridiculous, Chelsea discovers she is pregnant to Mace, but he has no idea. Being Mace - speak 1st, think 2nd he does everything in his power to mess with Hells head, and knowing she can't tell him "no" they end up screwing each others brains out almost constantly. But with history between Mace and Rush and Chelsea in the middle things become even more tense.

Knowing she has to come clean to Mace about the baby and to Rush about how she really feelsm it all comes to a head. Mace's reaction was just as I'd expected, he might be one cocky f@#ker but his a real man and stands up for his woman, their baby and his family.

This was another great read from Misti Murphy, and another that will indeed grace my re-read list.

Mace and Chelsea have a complicated relationship that spans years. Chelsea is a family friend and practically a member of the Hadley family. This is an amazing family, loving and willing to take in kids in need. Best Friends, like Razor, for example, are raised along with the siblings.
Chelsea first dated Mace's brother Rush, and it was Rush who asked Mace to breakup with Chelsea on his behalf when he left town. Head spinning? Mine too. The dreaded love triangle. This is why, although well written, I am not in love with this book. Must love angst. Must love bickering. Must love makeup sex(without making up.)
Chelsea and Mace play a game of love that just hurts. Their relationship is very passive aggressive. Neither is willing to trust the other, but they really do love one another. It is often a twisted, hurt-filled love.
After being away in the military for many years, Mace is back. Mace isn't done with Chelsea. No matter how she may fight it-even if she has her legs wrapped around him during the entire struggle. Let's just say he fell, and she landed on his...
In addition, the Mace who went away to war, didn't return the same as he left. He's still as Cocky, but he is wounded. Wounds his family and friends can't easily see.
“I couldn’t do it anymore.”
“W-what?”
“Hold a gun. I couldn’t…” I screw up my hand by my side, trying to remember a time when holding a firearm was the most natural feeling in the world. Now, my hand shakes, my fingers tense up at the thought. “…do my job. So I figured it was time to come home.”
Mace is home. But will he ever truly be home without Chelsea at his side? Taking a second chance on love may be the greatest battle this soldier has ever faced. Take a chance with Mace, and keep in mind- all's fair in love and war.
