Born in River Edge, New Jersey, Pascal began his art career at a very young age of seven when his older brother Sean, gave him the task of “copying” comic books covers in exchange for Pascal to read the comics! At the age of three, his family relocated back to the south of France, where he spent hours sketching and drawing both comics and the beautiful landscapes of Provence. In 1998 Pascal began his studying narrative illustration at Arts Decoratifs de Strasbourg, in France. His formal training emphasized storytelling through art, and also happened to be the last class that was taught without computers. After graduating in 2000 from the Arts Decoratifs de Strasbourg with a diploma in Narrative Illustration, Pascal’s brother Sean built him a new tool: a computer. It was the beginning of a new form of art for Pascal and a digital artist was born.
In 2001, the appeal of paradise combined with employment took him to Honolulu, Hawaii where he worked at PREL developing online educational games. In 2002, he joined the start-up studio, Bent Image Labs, in Portland Oregon. Here Pascal honed skills as a commercial 2D artist and then becoming a commercial director and collaborated on campaigns for clients such as Ritz Crackers and Reese’s Pieces.
In 2005 Pascal moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to be a Senior Visual Artist for Leapfrog where he was responsible for the creation of many Leapfrog characters, storylines and game development for LeapFrog and its partners.
In May of 2007 Pascal married in San Francisco and in 2008 their first child, Lily was born. His intense passion for his family thus began and he has been carrying that flame and inspiration in his work, and has become one of his hallmarks.
In 2006 Pascal began to truly develop his own art and style, but lacking time due to his full time job, he had to come up with an efficient solution. It was then that “Sketch of the Day” was born: every morning, first thing, he creates a sketch, albeit full color, and a story unto itself. This routine has yielded an archive of close to 3,000 sketches and over 30,000 organic Facebook followers and growing numbers on Tumblr, Twitter, DeviantArt and Pinterest.
As a freelance artist since 2007 Pascal has worn many hats in the art world; from conceptual design to visual development for feature films and television; to creating commercial animation for clients such as Chevron and Disney; as well participating in DeepGreen movie. Today, his current list of clients includes: Dreamworks Animation, Paramount Pictures, Disney Feature, Disney Toons, Bent Image Labs, Cartoon Network, Hulu, They Might Be Giants, Insignia Worldwide, BRC Animation Arts and PBS. He is represented by Shannon Associates in the field of publishing.
Pascal is excited to be involved in so many diverse and exciting film, print, and commercial campaigns. Recently, Pascal has pushed his personal work into exciting new territory, as he evolves his work to Fine Art. Pascal debuted his first solo art show at the Galerie Arludik in Paris France in January 2013. If asked, he will say his inspiration to create and work hard stems from his family. Wife and Business Partner Katrina has helped to create both a thriving business and an energetic home life. Father to Lily, and twins Max and Colin, Pascal loves to draw from his life experiences and moments that bring him true meaning and satisfaction. From http://www.pascalcampion.com/about/
You can search the world for “the best” artist: but you’d be wasting your time because if you’re here, you’ve already found what you were looking for, especially if you’re looking for a capable, brilliant, incredibly adaptive, as well as an artist who manages to magically reach out to draw you into his world of beauty and wonder (and that is only describing his “daily sketches”, let alone his finer works where words, quite simply, fail-or such a word has yet to be created-to do justice to the brilliance and depth Pascal creates with his art. To see his art, IF you are lucky enough to do so, is to know him, as well as his family, and obvious compassion and love for them, not to mention his love and compassion of the human condition ...which, I can only surmise, is part of the reason that he continually pushes past his comfort zones to create an altogether different look.)
I was fortunate to “meet” this incredible artist online while I was randomly looking up various artists and their styles on DeviantArt.com (sadly, I’m a writer and, while the two are not mutually exclusive, I can write but please if you value your sight: don’t ask me to create visual art!)
As I was looking around, a friend said that I should look this guy up because of his talent (art is a beautiful escape from dealing with life and a chronic illness that causes, among other less lovely things, chronic pain.)
Straight away I was drawn into each “story” (as a writer it’s hard NOT to see stories in any artwork created by particularly gifted artists.) I was hooked and checked everyday to see what he was up to/“what new story was he going to share with us, his audience, today!”...and I was never disappointed! After a lot of long winded comments made by me-amongst the thousand or so follows he had/has, it’s been a while since I’ve been back to the site because of life/etc.-but after a few thoughtful posts and questions on my part, we started sending messages about art, eventually I mentioned that I was a writer and then that I had some autoimmune disease that has yet to be figured out. Pascal’s response? Sending this book to me, after I had sent one type of writing I do, children’s stories, to him! Complete with his autograph next to a cartoon of me-a girl sitting under a tree reading, which accurately sums up the part of my childhood NOT spent climbing trees and playing makeup sports with the boys, and generally scaring my poor mom to death with my “adventures”-which was next to a beautifully kind note to feel better and to keep on writing (yes, I still am!)
Since I’m a firm believer in paying it forward, or I suppose backwards in this case, Pascal if you ever see this, please know that I cherish that “art book visual artists use to show off their talent and hopefully get another job” you sent me. Hopefully one day we’ll actually meet in real life so I can at least pay you for sending a gift to a girl dealing with nonstop pain: to this day I look through it and it always helps me to keep the pain at bay on truly bad days. There are no words of gratitude that will ever truly describe the joy that book brought to me since it was likely just a small gesture of kindness on your part, but it did (and continues to) mean the world to a suburban Philadelphian, PA, USA kid fighting pain daily since I was 13. And who knows? Just maybe one day you can turn my art words into visual art if our paths do ever happen to cross and I get to see your wonderful family that I strangely feel I already know from your daily sketches! Which additionally bring me immense joy with something new daily! So thank you again and again for continuing to share your artwork in the form of your daily sketches (not to mention the comic variant covers as well as artwork in your books and the sketches you can buy on their own!)
In short: if the art has Pascal Campion’s name on it, don’t hesitate for a moment! Buy it that instant and you can thank me later. Well you should thank Pascal since he’s the genius who can help guide you through any storm you may face, simply by taking in all the depth of his art. You’re welcome in advance people who didn’t know if these collections and books are worth it: they are!!!!
