3.5 - "Be safe..." Stars!

Wilde Fire was a quick, sweet, sexy-smutty novella. Brother’s best friend is a trope that I have a bit of a soft spot for, and Kat Austen delivered a decent story-line for Jake and Bree’s step from friends to lovers.

It has been more than a few years since Jake has seen Bree, in fact it was prior to her brother’s death, the best friend he promised her he would bring back from Afghanistan after their tour. But fate had other ideas, and after leaving the armed forces Jake heads to Alaska to take up a job as a smoke-jumper. Seven years later and Bree comes a-calling, looking to do an interview about his job and what it entails, the only problem being the Bree he left behind, the teenager he still sees in his head, is not the woman that knocks on his door.

I still thought about him every single day.

Staying six weeks to conduct her research, results in Jake, basically walking round with a perma-boner, and trying not to punch any and all guys in the face that even so much as look in her direction, whilst Bree is a continually damp hormonal mess, and I found it all quite amusing in its own, slightly OTT way.

He’d been my friend and family growing up. He’d had my back and looked after me. A girl just didn’t get over a guy like that.

It was sweet to read how he battled with his newfound feelings for her, whilst fighting the guilt he still feels for not fulfilling the promise he made to her. And again it bought a smile to my face when he realized that not only did Bree share the attraction, but had been attracted to him for quite some time.

This is essentially a lunch-time special read, in that I got through to the last chapters in an hour, the plot is sweetly predictable, the sexy-times when they get going cheesily enjoyable, the dirty talking erred on the side of cringe a couple of times, but I still really enjoyed the reading experience, and would definitely look too read more from this author in the future.

I've officially read all of Kat Austen's 5 books. All novellas & all written in 2016. She no longer writes. Not using this name anyway. Anyone know if she has a pseudonym?

MEH or the BAD:
Average romance & romance development. Liked that it ended with H proposing marriage to h but didn’t like that H&h’s future wasn’t settled due to their traveling jobs. Both were committed to each other but the vast difference & nature of their jobs made a settled future with a house/family/kids iffy. Wish there was an epilogue years down to show what happens to them.

Liked that 23yo virgin investigative-reporter h saved her virginity for her bro’s BFF & teen crush late-20s welder-forest smokejumper H. BUT has an unbelievable-virgin h like Austen's other book, Rock Hard. h dated many men & had seen a live penis or 2. No info on what she did with the live ones or what was done to her sexually either. She was quite sexual & frank & self-pleasured regularly so not sure how far sexually she went with other guys barring oral & actual sex. So, she may have saved her virginity for H but she wasn't very faithful emotionally to him. Understandable really since her feelings for him when she was a teen was unrequited. So, she tried to get over him with other men in the last 7 years but none made her forget H.

The GOOD:
Novella. Hot S chem & detailed bareback S scenes. Liked that they didn't rush to sex, when they saw each other again 7 years later & both were wildly attracted to each other. H may have been a no-commitment player but he was honest & had a moral compass, which included respecting his deceased best friend by not touching his younger sister. Liked that they got to know each other as housemates for 3 weeks before they smexxed. It strengthened their romance so it wasn't just about sexual attraction. Liked H's jealous possessiveness with h but he wasn't over the top about it.

All I can say it meh! It was ok but not really great just ok! I would say the fact that they finally get together and keep both their jobs while not really seeing each other is great. I know for a fact that these relationships never work out. It's cute that they want sex but love!? Nope did not feel it except for on her side. He says he will go with her at the end but...come on! He is a self-centered ass who just fell in lust with his dead BFF sister. So what? Big deal. Nope not buying it. Just sex dirty talk and lust on his side and love everlasting on hers. I don't like these kinds of stories were I can't see them working out.
Plus side it's a fast read. Not too bad. Just not awesome.

Wilde Fire by Kat Austen was a quick steamy romance that will satisfy the needs of any best friends little sister romance trope lovers. And how could you not when the first three lines of the blurb immediately grabbed my attention. “As a boy, he was like an older brother to her.As a teenager, he became her secret crush. As a man, he’s her target and she’s determined to get him out of her system once and for all. “ Right?

Well as it turns out, I devoured this book and couldn’t wait till the hero and heroine finally hooked up. And let me tell you it was hot, sexy and oh so steamy. You gotta love a quick steamy novella where two people are madly attracted to one another but it takes a feisty determined heroine to make the man she loves finally see her. So if you are looking for a smoking hot love story that hits the spot for those best friends little sister trope lovers then this book is for you.

Intense and scorching (see what I did there??) romance, on the short side, this read was quick and oh so satisfying.
Somehow the scene setting and the character's background stories were presented on a well rounded manner, the story was well structured, and on a short time-frame, it was impressively well developed. Maybe there could have been a few more scenes pushed in there, but I did not really miss them -- all essentials were present and I was very happy as a reader with this book.

This is the second book I've read by this author and I liked it as much as the first. It's a quick read. The thing I love is the 2 books are very different. This book has a good storyline. It's a friends to lovers romance with her brother's best friend. The h did pretty much pine away for the H while he never thought of her in that way. In his defense though she is quite a bit younger than him. The last time he saw her she was 16 and I think he was in his 20's so it didn't bother me. Once Jake was in he is all in. No OW/OM. Very low angst.

The best friend’s little sister trope is one I have always enjoyed and Kat Austen did it wonderfully. I love when the hero suddenly realises the gangly he knew years back is now a luscious woman and their turmoil and confusion in dealing with their attraction is a lot of fun. Wilde Fire has that and more with Austen adding a surprising emotional angle.

I loved Jake’s inner monologue. From his instant attraction, to his overwhelming urges and his obsessive need to keep her close. Jake was an excellent character because along with all of his hotness he was also incredibly sweet and his vulnerability and feelings that he wasn’t good enough for Bree were endearing. On the flip side of the coin, Bree was a great character in her own right. She was strong and sassy and I loved the fact that she was often the aggressor.

This book doesn’t offer a whole lot to think about except that we have a sexy as hell hero with a soft heart and a dangerously sexy job, a heroine who doesn’t take life lying down and a passion that was steamy and hot. If you’ve got an hour to kill and are looking for something sweet and hot to have with your tea, I recommend this!

Jake Wilde never looked at Bree Chase as anything other than his best friends little sister. After avoiding her for 6 years because he wasn't able to fulfill his promise of keeping her brother safe, Bree is coming to see him. He didn't expect her to be the grown woman he sees when he opens the door.
Bree has been in love with Jake for as long as she can remember. She can't move on from her feelings so she goes to Alaska under the guise of working on a story. Now together for 6 weeks, their true feeling are about to surface. Safe read with no cheating or ow/om drama. Hot love scenes. No epilogue and a HFN ending.

This was a quick smutty novella about one of my favorite tropes - the best friend's little sister. I think fans of Alexa Riley would like this one.

Jake Wilde was best friends with Matt Chase since high school. They both joined the Marines together and went to war. Unfortunately, Matt didn't come back from war, but Jake did promise to take care of Matt's sister, Bree.

It's been seven years since they've seen each other. Jake has felt guilty because he thought he should have been able to save Matt. Bree is tired of waiting on him to come around and she's crushed on him since she was a teenager. So, as an investigative journalist Bree talks her boss into letting her go to Alaska and write a story about the Alaskan smokejumpers where Jake is working. When she tells him her real feelings for him, will they heat up and spark their own wilde fire or will it smolder and die?

Overall, this was a quick sexy read told in dual POVs. I had an hour to kill and this was a perfect read for that.

5 Fiery and Delightfully Sweet Stars!!

This book was everything that i wanted it to be since the moment i laid my eyes on the cover and so much more!! It was sexy yes but it was so tremendously heartfelt and filled with moments of anguish towards oneself about that past that made this book not only enjoyable to read it was exhilarating as well! Ms.Austen created a story that was much more than just sex between two people but a story of how a persons love that they have for someone else just doesn't diminish over time it can grow and become something more beautiful entirely even if that person hasn't realized how deep those feelings go.

It was short but not once did i feel like that took anything away from the story nor rushed things. The build up to the bigger moments are well worth the wait and they are written so frustratingly yet sweetly all at the same time. I will be sure to keep an out for more of Ms.Austen's work in the near future!!

One of my favorite quotes is - "She healed old scars and was a buffer to the new ones forming." <3

Bree Chase was a character that was living her life and working as an investigative journalist when the opportunity arises for her to pursue something she's always wanted to she doesn't turn away. She was quite hilarious and at times foul mouthed but those two things only served to make her more of a likable heroine. There was always that one person missing from her life and no matter who she picked to fill that void they never came close to the one she had always pined for which was something she was determined to change once and for all. I liked that even if things didn't go her way per say she wouldn't give up no matter what and that in my opinion only made her more awesome than she already was. Bree got straight to the point whenever she spoke and told it like it was.

Jake Wilde was a character that always lived life adventurously and by him being a Smoke-jumper any day could never be classified as "dull". He was sweet when he wanted to be and caring in ways that made me swoon with every turn of the page. I absolutely loved that he got his own point of view and that i got to read exactly what he was thinking or feeling. His past was something that haunted him in every waking moment and the thoughts of those who he felt he let down seared his brain for years. He was content with everything he was doing in Alaska but at the same time there was something missing without him even realizing it. Jake cared about others more than he cared about himself and he always wanted to do right by another person even if that meant sacrificing his own happiness.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a story that not only is hot and rather lovely but one that's about how two people finding their own long ways to the road that leads to a love that is more than consuming it's life-changing. This book will be sure to warm your heart, keep you smiling, frustrate you, and make you blush throughout. It's not too fast paced and it doesn't drag. I promise if this sounds like your kind of story Buy it Today! You won't regret it unless you don't press that One-click button right now! It's worth every penny! 5 Stars all around!! :)

Wilde Fire is a quick, sexy, and sweet read. I really enjoyed the second-chance /brother’s best friend aspect of this story, 2 of my favorite tropes!

Jake and Bree’s brother Matt were best friends through high school and enlisted in the Marines together. Jake made it back, but Matt didn’t. For 7+ years Jake has harbored such guilt about it, so much so that he feels like he has failed Matt by not taking care of Bree like he promised. He hasn’t seen her in all those years, with barely any contact between them other than an email or a text here and there. But Bree has reached the point where she’s had enough of the non-contact, she’s been holding onto her feelings for Jake for so long and just wants to get over him. She works it out so that her job as an investigative journalist takes her to Alaska for a story on smoke-jumpers- which Jake just happens to be. When she shows up at his door she’s not the same 16 year old he used to know. And it’s time that they both finally face what they’ve been hiding from themselves.

Bree and Jake were both very likeable characters. I was happy that we got to see things from both their points of view- it helped knowing what each of them was thinking and going through, as they discovered and opened up to their true feelings for the other. There were just a few things, some personal “issues” if you will, that detracted from the story, for me that kept it from being a full 4*. But overall it was an enjoyable read, an entertaining way to spend a couple of hours before bed.

A friends to lovers story

Bree had a teen crush, her brothers best friend and now Bree is a grown woman it seemed the flame of desire never died.

Bree sets out to see if she just needs to get Jake out of her system but instead of extinguishing the flame it well and truly rekindles.

A quick read Told in dual pov's, heartwarming and hot with great characters finishing with a well deserved hea.

I wanted to like this one I really did, and that might be why I was as disappointed as I was. Over all I just couldn't get into this writing style. The story I expected and the story I read were so vastly different it threw me off. Don't get me wrong you get the story the summary gives you, but I was expecting more mature characters, less insta love, more adult writing? The characters seemed to contradict themselves for me. Bree is suppose to be this impressive mature female. Jake is this supposed adrenalin junky Alpha badass. But the stuff she does and the things he says or thinks are so opposite from the people they are or are supposed to be. Then the virginity shocker, I'm pretty sure I remembered Bree alluding to her having slept with other men and how it had been awhile, then all of a sudden she's as pure as a Disney princess? That was the kicker for me. I went from having hopes to being annoyed. Don't get me wrong I love a good virgin/alpha story but it needs to be upfront. If the chick is a prude her personality needs to match. Over all this was a 2.5 star for me, the Johnson references and a hand solo experience being the "single most erotic experience of his life" and the "balls slapping my anus" certain words should never be used during a sex scene anus is one of them, they ruined it for me unfortunately.

I haven't had the pleasure of reading any of Kat Austen's book. I will look forward to reading more now that I've had a chance to read Wilde Fire. This is sweet, sexy, hot sexual tension going on with both of them.

This a sweet story about a young girl who fell for her brother's best friend. Jake always thought of Bree as a kid sister growing up, he was older than her. Bree knew they could never be more than friends growing up but as she got older she was thinking different thoughts as a sixteen year old.

Bree saw the girls he went through, get what he wanted an leave that was his M.O.
He never looked at her like he did other girls, but she figured that was cause of her brother an him being best friend.

Tragedy struck an Jake lost his best friend an Bree lost her brother overseas.
Jake blamed himself an hated that he couldn't keep his promise to Bree, but he couldn't keep his promise to his best friend either. He let them both down. He got as far away from Bree as he could get an still be in the United States. He moved to Alaska while Bree was in N.Y. City.

Bree was sixteen years old when she made Jake promise her to keep her brother safe an bring him home. She's a twenty three year old woman now an she knows different. She doesn't blame Jake for her brother Matt's death. She knows Jake blames himself that's why he doesn't come to see her.
Jake Wilde fought fires in Alaska he was known as a smoke jumper an on the off season he was an under water welder in Seattle.

Bree Chase is an Investigative Journalist travel all over the world.

She was coming to see Jake to finally put an end to her feelings for him. Hoping he will just make love to her an leave like he does the other women he has had. Maybe then he will be out of her system once an for all, an she can get on with her life.

It's been almost 8 years since they have saw each other. Bree shows up at his house an Jake doesn't recognize her...from the sixteen year old girl with no breast an hips to the full grown woman that standing at his door. She will be there six weeks an she is determined to work him out of her mind an body, even if she has to do the seducing.

He takes her to meet the guys at the smoke jumper office an he gets jealous with all the attention she is getting. She is there for interviews about their jobs

Jake is called away before they can proceed with their plans. There are some bad wild fires an three of the jumpers are missing no names given until they notify families of the missing men

Bree is going crazy she knows Jake is out there fighting in the worst of it. No one will tell her anything. All she can do is sit an wait on word or a knock on the door.

She bakes cookies giving her something to do...all of a sudden there is a knock on the door...she is frozen in place ...she doesn't want to answer it...the knock gets louder she has no choice but to open the door...Oh My God she says an falls to her knees. ..

Will they have their night?
Will Jake make it home or be missing?
Will Bree get to tell Jake she loves him?
Who is at the door ??

Have to read this awesome book. Can't give anymore away it's a real page turner. It will keep you on the edge of your seat in some of this amazing story.

Wilde Fire was a fast moving, passionate, wordy dirty novella. Its about Jake who is Matt‘s best friend and Bree is Matt’s younger sister. They all grew up together and Matt and Jake were really good friends who ended up joining the Marines together. Jake came back but Bree’s brother unfortunately didn’t make it back and Jake took it really hard. It felt like he should have been the one to die and not Matt. Another thing of guilt on his plate is that he promised Matt is that he would look after Bree and he hasn’t seen her several years and they have had little contact, with maybe an email or short text message every once in a while but its been several years since they have seen one another. But that is about to change as Bree is tired of Jake keeping her at arm’s length because she is she is tired of Jake not wanting to see her. She decides to go see him and works it out with her job that she can do a story on smoke-jumpers which is what Jake does now. Bree is now an investigative journalist and she decides to pursue Jake and put her cards on the table so to speak and show him that she is not 16 anymore. When Jake sees the 23 yo Bree at his door, everything changes. Will it change for the good and can Jake and Bree have a future or will the past hinder their present and future?
Jake and Bree are great characters who went thru a horrible tragedy and it set them on a course that separated them. Bree put Jake on a pedestal and thought he would always come back to her. When things changed and he didn’t, it made her determined to fix him and set him free from the pain he is in. She tried everything to get over him but really couldn’t because she truly loved him. She is sassy, sweet and independent. Then there is the hero Jake- wounded, determined, heroic, and oh so sexy. Years ago he felt something strong for Bree but because of her age, he kept those feelings bottled up and when her brother and his best friend died, he didn’t come home to her. Now that she is legal and she is there in Alaska with him, its like sunshine is back in his life and he isn’t sure if he is able to handle it again –he wants her so badly but is he able to keep her in his life. He is so sweet in how he struggled with his feelings.

I loved this story and how it went. I hope to read more by this author.

What a beautiful story. If you are looking for a sexy, sweet and a quick read, you will love this story. I really enjoyed reading it.

Jake has known Bree for years as his best friends little sister. Bree sees Jake as her brothers hot best friend and has always had a crush on him. Jake and her brother join the marines and only Jake returns. With the guilt Jake moves to Alaska, where he becomes a smoke jumper and doesn't see Bree for several years.

Bree is now an adult and she is an investigative reporter. Bree still has feelings for Jake and she wants just one night with Jake so she can move on. Bree gets assigned an assignment on smoke jumpers and it takes her directly to Jake.

When Jake opens his door to Bree, he doesn't expect to see the beautiful woman she has become. Jake takes Bree to work and is jealous when others are showing interest in her.

Will Bree get what she thinks she wants or more?

This is a beautiful story and I will certainly be looking forward to reading more from Kat Austen.

This is a sexy quick read that I find very sweet and very well written for a debut. The male lead, Jake is ex-military and a smoke jumper (that instantly caught my attention as I have read a few books that featured characters with that profession and I find it very interesting). He is all about risk, a classic classic adrenaline junkie and far removed from commitment, preferring simple no string hookups. When Bree, his best friend's younger sister reenters his life he is about to deal with a whole new kind of fire that may be way too hot, even for his risk taking lifestyle. Bree grow up with Jake and idolized and crushed on him hard. When he is finally back in her path, she is no willing to let him slip through his fingers again so soon. Kat Austen added the perfect amount of angst to this short read thanks to Matt and Jake and Bree were very sexy and sweet together. I'm looking forward to seeing what Kat Austen writes in the future.

4.5 stars! My only issues with this were to do with words and wording. I cringe whenever I see things like 'seed' and stuff, and some of the dirty talk made me feel awkward. But it didn't really ruin anything in the book. I really liked it. Oh and my other issue was the heroine saying she'd done EVERYTHING to get over him, and then it turned out everything was not very much at all. I love that cover too!

This is a Hot Sweet quick read it's not an insta-love story but more of a second chance love, with angst and a HEA. The story has a great flow and I couldn't put it down.
Bree is the younger sister to Matt and has unrequited feelings for her brothers best friend, Jake. Matt and Jake both joined the marines and when they returned, it was with Jake alive and her brother not. He feels guilty that he returned and her brother didn't and even more guilty at not keeping his promise to look after Bree with them only kept in touch through holiday cards over the years and with Jake working in Alaska part of the year he's managed to keep his distance.
Bree hasn't seen Jake in years and when the opportunity comes for her to write an article on Smoke Jumpers she uses the chance to finally get over her feelings for Jake and heads over to Alaska to interview him and put her plan Get Over Jake into action, but is it ever that easy to get over the One......
When Jake opens the knock on his door, he doesn't expect to see the beautiful woman Bree has become and finds himself in whole load of trouble.

“This is your best friend’s little sister, Jake. Little. Sister. I kept repeating the phrase to myself until it cleared the filthy images from my head.”

Both characters are head strong knowing what they want and through the story it becomes clear to them that this is each other, the Pull is just to strong to ignore.
“But even as I glanced over at Jake from the passenger side of his old Jeep, I accepted that no man would ever measure up to Jake Wilde.”

“I want you, Bree. In every way a man can want a woman.”

This book is more than just a short love story there is also a gripping part to it as well and I don't want to give to much away and spoil it for you.
Although this is a quick read it gives you two strong characters and keeps you wanting to see what will happen. I suppose it could have been made into a larger book but sometimes Short Hot Sexy Reads is what's called for and Wilde Fire is the perfect book for anyone looking for a good short, fast paced steamy read.
I would most definitely recommend this book and this Author!!

This is my first book by Kat Austen ,and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this quick romance story ,it's a sweet and sexy novella .Kat Austen has given us a great story that was well written ,and it suck you in and keep you there from start to finish and will leave you wanting more from this author. It's story of second chances brothers and best-friends. This is Jake Wilde 's and Bree's touching story. Jake who was Matt's best friend and Bree is Matt's younger sister who has a little crush on Jake. They all grew up together but Matt and Jake were really buddies ,they even joined the Marines together. But poor Matt didn't make it home ,unfortunately he was killed in action. But Jake took it really bad, he though it should of been him who was killed. But he made a promise that he would look after Bree ,but he hasn't seen her for years, and he's had ever little contract with her.But there's an email here and there and maybe a small text but nothing else. So what will Jake do when she shows up at his door unannounced , because she hasn't told him anything about her visit .Will he be happy to see her and what will he said to her ? Kat Austen has written great characters who has gone through a horrible tragedy and they are still hurting in their own way. And this tragedy has separated for several years .Bree really has to try and fix Jake ,because she has always loved him. She try's to make Jake realize that he has no realize to feel guilt and anything not even her brothers death. Jake wants Bree so bad ,but he doesn't know with he can handle it. He's struggling with his feels with everything that has happen over the years. I could go on and tell you so much more about this touching story, but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this touching story, for you won't be disappointed.

Colour me intrigued with Wilde Fire, the mystery behind the best-selling author using a pen name had me instantly wanting to know who the elusive Kat Austen was and whether I could guess by the writing style ;) Although after reading it I am still none the wiser lol.

Bree has been in love with her brother's best friend for most of her life. He is the yardstick with which she measures all other men against, finding every single one lacking. Her heart beats only for Jake. Unable to settle into her own life, Bree makes a plan to get Jake out of her system once and for all. You've got to admire the girl for taking control of her life. In all other aspects Bree is a go getter but she has been holding herself back where her heart is concerned but self-aware to realise she can't go through life in this manner.

Jake is a complete adrenaline junkie, smoke-jumper in the summers, undersea welder in the remaining months of the yer. Weighed down by guilt from the loss of his best friend during their tour of duty, Jake has distanced himself from Bree over the last few years. still thinking of her as the gangly teen he remembers, Jake is stunned to find Bree all grown-up. The insightful dual narrative was necessary to fully understand the emotional barriers between Jake and Bree.

The chemistry between the two is fuelled by the depth of caring and understanding they already have. Sparks quite literally fly.

Wilde Fire not only shows the trials and tribulations of a relationship with someone in a dangerous profession but also the difficulty in forming a relationship when careers require a large amount of travel. Difficult but not impossible.

More than anything Wilde Fire shows that happiness is a choice, you can remain tied to the past with all its regrets and hurt or embrace the happiness and love available in the present and hopefully progressing into the future.
