Have you ever wanted to write a book? Maybe you’ve got a great book idea but have no idea where to begin. “Think, Write, Publish” is the first and only book you’ll ever need to read.
Life can be crazy with the demands of the world pressing against our every moment, but there’s hope. Writing and authorship might not be for everyone, but how do you know if you never give it a try? From start to Finish “Think, Write, Publish” will help you along the way. From coming up with book ideas to finding pockets of time in the day to do the writing itself. Everything is covered.
The world wide best-selling author Benjamin Chapin (writing as T.K. Chapin) has written a book to help guide those interested in self-publishing. He went from punching a clock full-time and wishing for a different life to having published over sixty books world-wide in less than three years. He's now sharing the book he would have wanted when he started out. A full and complete guide that will equip its readers to think, write and publish.
Meet Benjamin: A husband, step dad and author. He sees the world a little differently then most people, he can see the quiet beauty in the mists of all the chaos. Benjamin loves to help people that are in need.
Benjamin's experience and expertise comes from his studies. For years Benjamin has been studying different elements of psychology, entrepreneurship, business, personal transformation and so on. He also spent a good deal of time listening to studying the Bible and listening to sermon's. He has absorbed much from these studies and wants to share it with the world.
In Benjamin's free time, he enjoys to spend time with his beautiful wife Crystal and his step daughter Emma. They enjoy to travel and visit family. They live in Idaho Falls, ID. It's a smaller sized town, but Benjamin says, "The summer makes the winter worth the pain."
[I picked up this book because I was interested in the "Think" and "Publish" parts. I'm researching publishing options, and I thought the "Think" part meant story-developing advice I could use for my next novel.]
Think, Write, Publish should really be called Publish.
Because as a book on self-publishing, it's helpful. Chapin goes through the processes and dos-and-don’ts of formatting, covers, publishing, selling, marketing, and growing a reader base. I hadn’t even realized a self-published author could realistically have an audiobook! Chapin makes it all sound so doable (but I’ve done little other research on it, so I have only his word to go by).
As a book on becoming a writer and building a writer lifestyle, it’s decent. He talks about finding your “why” which I haven’t seen much in other books on writing.
As a book on brainstorming, plotting, and outlining...well, that's not what he means by "Think" or "Before Writing."
As a book on writing, it’s seriously lacking. The “fundamentals of writing” consists of 6 paragraphs on scenes and 5 double-spaced pages on dialogue. That’s it. No conflict or pacing or structure or style. He gives ideas for plot/character inspiration, but only one page on plot basics, and nothing at all on writing believable characters or character arcs.
And then revising: He advises making your first revision about addressing only the problems you already know need to be fixed. (Don't even read the manuscript start to finish.) The single paragraph on the second revision advises, "Read through your story and fine-tune every sentence you come across."
So, no read-through for plot holes? No checking for pacing or character consistency or subplot rabbit trails? Your first read-through is too soon to be polishing your sentences. You need to catch the big things first.
It’s comparable to almost every other book on the topic. Very broad and brief. Seeing that the author has published fiction I started trying to read his novels, but can’t seem to get into them at all. Knows what he is doing and if he’s able to make a living writing and self publishing then good for him. That’s the major takeaway for me from reading this guide book is that if he can make it so can I. I just need the work ethic that this guy has when it comes to waking up early and using time wisely to write something.
Most writing books don’t really tell you how to write. They all remind us who are stubborn and lazy what we already know.
Think, Write, Publish: How to self-publish a book: Pre-writing, Writing, Publishing and Marketing Guide, written by Benjamin Chapin, is exactly what the title says it is. Chapin breaks down the complete process of getting ready to write a book (nonfiction or fiction) and exactly how to publish and market it. I found the processes that he maps out to be extremely thorough and yet with each step he explains it so well that I’m sure I will be able to follow the map and complete my goal. He breaks down each step along the way from preparing to write to marketing ideas and strategies. I’m excited to see how it all works. I’ve never written before, but would truly like to publish a holiday traditions and cookbook someday. With this guide, I know that I can accomplish it. I do think that I would like to get a paperback copy of the guide in order that I can mark it up a bit, but also use my Kindle version of this book to be able to link myself directly to the many helpful sites that Chapin maps out within this guide. I feel that Chapin didn’t hold anything back with this guide…he has been successful and wants others to be able to join the title of “author” along with him. Looking forward to putting it to use!
"Everything You Need to Know About Self-Publishing"
There's been many times I've thought about writing a book but the thought of it seemed too complicated. Listening to "Think, Write, Publish" really put it into perspective for me. This book written by Benjamin Chapin lays it all out and tells you everything you need to know to not only get started but to publish your work. It takes dedication first and foremost and you have to do the work but the end result is worth it.
I like the way he put this together as Road Maps because he gives you every avenue you need to take to get yourself to the destination. This is a terrific book that I'd recommend to anyone wanting to write and publish.
I enjoy listening to Jay Prichard's narration. He has a positive, upbeat cadence in his voice and that goes a long way. He makes listening fun and enjoyable while speaking clearly.
Audiobook received in exchange for an honest review.
A very informative book for anyone who is interested in writing and publishing his or her own book. I doubt I will be doing that myself, but I would want this book close at hand if I were starting the process. The book is reasonably short and easy to read. The author does not get bogged down in minutiae but yet provides sufficient information to help a budding author get started. If you have dreamed of writing and publishing a book, or maybe have just started, I recommend you get this book, read it, and keep it handy as a guide as you go along. When you start a new venture, it is always good to find some guideposts left by a fellow traveler who has traveled that same path. It should be especially helpful to those who choose to self-publish. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
This is a go to book for all indie writers, beginners or not. Benjamin documents each step with examples and shares personal knowledge of the process with great detail. For me, this will be a book that I will keep in my library ,to read many times and use as a reference. Thanks for an advance review copy and the opportunity to give my honest opinion.
