I've been following the Eternity Series since the beginning, and while I have loved and enjoyed Walter, James, and Mary Crofter's life adventures, I don't think I've been as invested in a story as much as I was with Angus's incredibly inspiring journey.

I, Angus tells the tale of the last male member of Clan Mackenzie from Scotland. At the age of 15, Angus loses his father and sister in an attack at their own castle, which was also left in ruins by cause of fire. Before his death, his father sent him to deliver a message to a Scot's castle, only for him to come across with the man's daughter of his own age, who was left all alone in the castle. After a series of events and by force of nature, Angus and the girl, Angela, are forced to take shelter in a cave, along with three wounded people. They eventually fall in love, but fate has other plans for Angus, taking him into a painful yet rewarding journey where he will learn to trust the road that God and his faith have set out for him.

I didn't expect to love Angus' character as much as I did, but it was truly hard not to given how this person is such an inspiring human being. I admired his will to pull through difficult times and risk his own life in order to protect those in need or to do what is right. I felt his pain and felt his joys. As a whole, I wish he would have had more joys than pains, but life during his time wasn't a easy one. Still, Angus' journey is one that really set things to motion for the better good of Scots, French and many others.

In all honesty, I don't know whether I, Angus is historically accurate or not--although I am aware that a Clan Mackenzie existed, as well as the Clan MacDonald and a few others mentioned--but as far as things go, this book rings with authenticity in the way of capturing the essence of the Scottish and other European societies during the 1700's. They are tough times and full of dangers in every corner, yet faith, people's good will, and bravery is what truly stands out in this hostile era.

The only drawback I found in this book is that, despite how much I enjoy the author's writing, I did feel it gets a bit slow two-thirds into the story. I skimmed a few pages to hurry up my progress and I don't believe I missed anything important. Do feel a bit guilty though for doing so!

Other than that, I, Angus turned out to be another rewarding read from Mike Hartner and an excellent addition to the Eternity Series. If you enjoy historical fiction novels told as memoirs with adventure, a hint of romance, but most of all, noble characters that we could all take a page out of their books, then you will surely come to enjoy any book in this series (which can be read as standalones!).

I thoroughly enjoyed I, Angus. The newest installment in The Eternity Series by Mike Hartner. His books are easy to read, enjoyable and filled with history. He touches on the heart with this book and makes you understand that life is sometimes filled with heartache and loss. I was excited to see Angus becomes the man he never intended from the young man lost and searching. It was nice to run into Mary and see how her life had progressed. This is an excellent YA book and I strongly recommend it to young and old alike. I look forward to more in this series. Great Job Mike!

This is the fourth book in the series and we meet Angus. he is young and living in the time where Northern Scotland is being invaded by the English . Leaving in their wake broke homes and families destroyed . When we first meet Angus he is charged with delivering a message from his father to a neighbouring king. But with all epic adventures his is no different . The journey is full of trials and twists . Once he arrives he meets Angela, the kings daughter all alone . When a rider less horse shows up the odds of her father coming home are looking grim. What we see is Angus and Angela looking for their fathers on the battle field, where the find soldiers and nurse them back to health all while living in a cave . With the challenges that come and go as they work there way across England, Scotland and England .
These characters are very well written and complex. You can't help but fall in love with Angus . He is a man of peace but life has a way of putting him through trials and tribulations that molded him into the strong man he became. Angela is a tough cookie too she is strong and is there for Angus when he needed her . They go through so much together and are stronger for it in the end .
I really didn't know if I was going to like this one as much as the other books . Angus wasn't one of the Crofter children so I really didn't know how the author was going to retell his story, I must admit he took us on a wild adventure ride into the war between Scotland and England and off to the new world . This one feels more adventurous then the other stories . These books are great for anyone from the age of 12 to adult to read . They are clean and oh so well written . You get transported back to a time where there is strife and wars but also you find loving families that care for each other . Each story is a great read and you will love every character . So get this series for you and your kids . You will all love them . So add them to your fall and winter reading list

Fourteen-year-old Angus Mackenzie had never really had any great ambition for his life. Growing up during a time when Scotland is being torn apart by dissension and civil strife, Angus is content to live his life quietly - taking care of himself and his family, and protecting them to the best of his ability. However, as war rages around him and he loses those he loves most, Angus grows increasingly more disillusioned by the state of his country.

As a man of peace Angus has seen his share of death, and he is certain that the North has lost more men to the violence of war than it ever did to the ravages of Nature. Although he wants no part of such violence, it seems as if a peaceful existence and a loving family may not be a part the Grand Plan for Angus. Because the North needs a leader; someone who is able to build communities.

However, Angus Mackenzie must first undergo his own trials by fire. He must be tested, shaped and molded by his adversity. The person who emerges from this particular crucible will ultimately be a much stronger and much wiser man; someone who is held in the highest esteem and much beloved by those who know him. Angus Mackenzie will hit both highs and lows as he travels across the lands of England, Scotland and France, all before he meets the challenge of a new land.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I wasn't quite sure where the story would go from the previous book, as Angus Mackenzie wasn't actually a relative of Mary Crofter. However, I found that this book worked perfectly within the series; the plot was just as intriguing as the previous books and advanced the story along very well. I would give this book an A!
