Author Interview:
Q: You write Military Romantic Suspense, and though it seems like the Navy SEAL romance books are the most popular, even Black Operations. So why did you choose Special Forces?
A: My husband is active Army and a veteran. The top tier of the Navy is the SEAL Teams. The top tier of the Army is the Special Forces. I think the SF deserves just as much recognition as the SEALs…they are like the Ghostwalkers of the Army. Plus- I don’t know jack about swimming.
Q: You based your military romance series on a Special Forces team – Task Force Scorpion. Why did you also decide to put them in a small town setting?
A: Just because you come from a small town, doesn’t mean you can’t be hard core. I grew up in a small town. The men there can be bad boy alpha males just as easily as the men from big cities ☺
Plus, I grew up reading small town romance. I think readers love the feeling of belonging to a community, getting to know all the quirky folks who live there and falling in love with not only the hero but also their friends and family.
Q: You're books are often about second chances – big secrets. Why?
A: Who doesn't root for a hero dying for a second chance? Yes, he probably screwed up big time in the past, but how much sweeter is the love between the hero and heroine when they show forgiveness?
As far as big secrets – they're just fun. Secret babies, corrupt politicians, love triangles…
Believe me – it ALL happens in a small town romance and real life.
Q: Why write Military Romance?
First off, I am kin to and am friends with a lot of military men, and they're all sweet and well mannered and love their country. But a lot of them are badass, too. Which is what we want when someone's fighting for our country – :-) – and in a hot romantic suspense : A fearless bad boy alpha male who fights for his country and his woman.

I'm being quite generous (in my opinion) giving this book 3 stars.
What I didn't like about this book was how David went about trying to gain forgiveness from his wife. Sex does not mean you still love your wife. Sex does not solve all your problems. Sex doesn't bring back the past 2 or 3 years of loneliness Lori experienced because David was too busy with his job. I hate that David turned the tables around and tried to make Lori feel bad because he was working so hard. It takes 2 seconds to take out the trash. It takes 2 hours out of your day to go watch your kid play baseball or gymnastics. David tried to make Lori feel guilty by saying if he didn't work she wouldn't have the life she does.
Not the best novella of the series. I kind of wish I didn't even pick it up.
Also, I thought in the previous books they mentioned Santos was killed. But yet in this one he's still alive? Hmm...confusing!
Just like the cover art this book is hot! At the same time it deals with very volatile issues surrounding a DEA agent and his wife along with the troubles that life can bring. In order to restore strength and faith back into their marriage and love, David has taken time off to do just that with his special lovin'. This after Lori, his wife, has put the trash he keeps forgetting to take out behind his car to run over on the way to work (made me laugh). And she has finally confessed that she doesn't know him anymore. He then calls her parents to take the kids after the case he has been working is closed. However, they have a mole and they get a surprise visitor at the house. The Men of Mercy step in to save them, hopefully, and find the mole.
Quick read and a good one for those who love action and these alpha male romances.
A bossy, kinky man who almost lets his job lose him his wife. I didn't really see how it fit into this series until the very end when the bad guy shows up.
David and Lori were at a crossroads in their marriage. For the past two years, David let his undercover work with the DEA cause a divide in his relationship with his wife, making her feel lost, abandoned, and unloved. He got so caught up in his work, he couldn't understand or see how or why Lori was feeling like she was at the end of her rope. Lori finally decides that she's had enough, forcing David to really SEE the effects his "absence" was having on his marriage and his kids.
Well, now...such as life right? Sometimes we do tend to let outside forces come into our homes, damaging relationships we promised to keep safe. It happens. A lot. Some say sex doesn't resolve these kinds of issues between a husband and wife, but seeing as how its been so long since David and Lori shared any type of intimacy, I guess you could say that letting the woman you married know that you still loved her and desired her was a step in the right direction.
I did not appreciate the way David made Lori feel bad for wanting him to pull back from his job a little and give more time to her and the kids. Of course, she was understanding about the type of job he had, knowing that these cases can sometimes consume you. I could understand where Lori was coming from--that there needed to be balance. I wanted to knock some sense into David when he became defensive about their issues. But what do you expect from someone who thinks he has all the answers?
Anyway, David finally sees reason; especially after seeing that pain and hurt on his wife's face when she comes to surprise him at work. It's like someone pulled the rug right from under him, and he now realizes that he's in danger of losing his family.
Thus, begins "Operation: Save My Marriage, Save My Family." This was a novella, so not a lot of time to really explore much, but David and Lori are one hot and sexy couple. Their passion steamed up my kindle. I love that they have a "toy bag." I love that David is a dominating, alpha male in the bedroom and that's what Lori craves. When you know what you like, and you love what you like, I say go with it. Get some! 😂
Anyway, I did like the story, but the grammatical errors still stick out like a sore thumb, there's a discrepancy in the story about the bad guy, especially since he supposedly died in a previous book, and the author should have never made Lori feel like she was to blame for the marital issues when it was perfectly clear that the fault lies with David. Other than that, I enjoyed the suspense and danger, and I was glad to see that b!#@$ get what was coming to her. Serves her right trying to be a money- grubbing homewrecker!😌

REVIEW: 3.5 stars—DAVID: Men of Mercy by Lindsay Cross is a contemporary, adult erotic, romantic suspense novella focusing on undercover DEA agent David, and his long suffering wife Lori. For close to two years David has been working undercover with the Mexican cartel but Lori has had enough of David’s absence in their family’s life. Close to walking away from it all, Lori all but threatens her husband with the possibility of going it alone. Realizing his marriage is falling apart, David takes action including reminding his wife about what was, and what will be again. But not all goes according to plan when his latest assignment threatens the woman he loves.
DAVID: MEN OF MERCY is a story of estrangement and loss; of one woman’s struggle to keep believing in her marriage and love; and one man’s battle between head and heart. The premise is fast paced and entertaining; the romance has a little bit of BDSM, Domination and submission; the characters are struggling in their personal and private lives. DAVID: MEN OF MERCY is a quick read focusing on one of the secondary characters from the author’s Men of Mercy romantic suspense series. Several of the previous story line characters cross over for cohesion and familiarity.
David is an undercover DEA agent. His wife Lori thinks he is cheating on her and their marriage is falling apart. They argue and David realizes he has put his family second with his job first. He sets up a surprise to try and win her back. But his cover was blown and the drug cartel he infiltrated finds his real identity. Can they get their marriage back to the way it was and live through their abduction ?
Short, a little BDSM, and action. Lori says “For knowing he’d suffered because of her selfishness.” She was the one who suffered, she was totally ignored and very lonely. I didn’t think she should have blamed herself.
David had been so busy working his undercover DEA cases, Lori was sure their marriage was over. David had been so wrapped up in closing in on a Mexican cartel, their children didn’t expect anything from him anymore. Yippee! The case finally closes and though David’s still having none of it, his loathsome partner is still trying to get him in bed and makes sure Lori sees her fix her appearance after leaving David’s office.
David tries hard to get back in his wife’s good graces and reassure her there was nothing going on with the woman at work. Including sending the kids to their grandparents for two weeks since it’s summer. Just as David and Lori find each other again, the cartel gets David’s home address and kidnap David and Lori!
I liked but didn’t love this one sitting short, this reader would’ve preferred a more resolute ending. Rating: 4.25stars
David & Lori had a strong marriage. An undercover agent David has let work take priority over his marriage & family. Lori is so tired of being ignored by David. Finally Lori explodes & gets David's attention & he gets a huge wake-up call, there is no way he is losing Lori or his family. David plans to show Lori how much she means to him. Meanwhile the drug gang David & his team are taking down decide to take care of David & Lori. Lori & David need to stay strong & hope David's partner & the ATF & DEA can get to them in time. I could feel how much David was determined to prove to Lori how much she means to him.
David has been working long hours taking down a drug cartel. He does not realize he has been ignoring his wife and kids. Lori wants him to realize his family should take priority over his job. Will there marriage survive or is it to late?
I enjoyed this story. Lori is determined to make David see how is job is affecting family. David wants to show his wife and kids that he will fight to keep them. There is a twist in story I never seen coming. The ending was great. I do however wish story was a bit longer.
David is a DEA agent and gets a hit right in the solar plexus when his wife says "things need to change". As the case he's on comes to an end he takes some time off from workto work on his marriage. The kids are at their grandparents house. Now David must fix his marriage. He realizes the DEA has a snitch on the inside when a visitor visits his home. David needs the Special Ops clan to help him and his wife.
Absolutely amazing, steamy love story about reconnecting with your husband when you think your marriage is dead. Lori and David have lost their spark and their way when his undercover job overrides their marriage. But with his heart aching David finally puts her first. Will it be enough to save the marriage or will his job once again get in the way. This was a short story but it packed quite a punch. With wonderful characters and hot and steamy sex scenes this book is a must read.
I found this short story a pleasure to read. I liked reading about the second chance between this married couple. I have to admit she can be a be a brat! This is a sweet short story in the series "Men of Mercy". Even though it's a short stories, the author does pack quite a bit of background and a nice rekindle of a marriage romance in this story. My only question would be, why would anyone with that kind of relationship forget? Holy moly, it was hot!
Author Lindsay Cross rips off the veil to reveal the stress and pressure of agents and family members. Lots of drama, upsets, betrayal, danger and passions. A little confused by book placement (book 12) in series based on events of previous books have not happen in this timeline. Also no mention of these characters in previous books in the series.
Great book. I think the fact that David and Lori have kids and are married hits home for a lot of women. Both have neglected their marriage in their own ways, but after a rude awakening, David has decided to change that. The only problem is that David's undercover position was found out and the cartel comes seeking revenge.
This is an intense story of a married couple 💑 rekindling their marriage and the outside dangers they face because of the husband's job. David and Lori are a couple that the reader will quickly take to and root for them to make their marriage a success. A great 👍 edition to The Men Of Mercy series but can be read as a standalone.
Ok so this book does not the into the 1st 3 until the end I was so lost i am reading them in the order that is recommended by the author. An i think she made a mistake it's not Rayland that took out Santos it was Ranger he came back from that mission with a messed up leg.
Engaging action filled novella! David has been working undercover for a long time and his marriage is falling apart. How can he make things right? When he arranges for a two week leave to try and woo Lori again, his case comes back to haunt him. Will he be able to rescue Lori and his marriage? Worth the read.
4.25 stars!! This series was really good but within every book the premise is sort of the same insta love, the alpha is going through shit and doesn’t date, the female gets roughed up badly but is in love with the alpha, and within 3 days they’re both declaring love!!!! Over the top and surreal but I had to read the series anyway ... my flaw!!! Was hoping for a change I suppose
The marriage is troubled and this story addresses the problems. A short and fast read with action and rekindling of romance. Not quite a second chance as they are still married. The villain/traitor was predictable but the family dynamic with the teammate was interesting.
Another amazing little novella from the series. A lot of suspense for a little story, which I thought was fantastic! David and Lori are married, which was a refreshing change to the norm.
David and Lori's marriage is suffering from neglect. Most of it being David's responsibility. He needs to take corrective action, but will Lori be receptive? His methods are panty melting...
This book may be a novella but it is packed with heat and action from the first page to the last. This is books you keep and pull out when you want something you know is going to satisfy that craving.
Story line was great. The chaos between the loving couple when his job has taken over is realistic and heart-wrenching. Not entirely sure where the details of the sex scene came from, I must admit, seemed to come out of nowhere and really threw me. Ending was good, though.
