I also received book two in return for a honest review from the authors publicist. In book two Nat has taken Richie on as his own apprentice letting him live in the house. Nat is also still dating Sandy, who the house happens to like it seems better then Nat since it lets her in when she stops by. A troll statue is missing from Seattle and other demons are starting to turn up missing. The city is offering a reward for the return of the Troll statue, which I really a troll. With the help of the demons the trio uses goats in attempt over a bridge in attempt to draw out the troll.

Nat meets Lilli who is also a Demonkeeper who has a collection of demons she keeps in her trailer. Lilli goes to Pikes Market and when she comes out she finds her demons all gone so she goes to Nat for help. Nat lives in a house full of demons, like the gum demon who likes to get stuck in hair, the chandelier, the carpet and many more.
So Nat sets out to figure out where the missing Demons have gone, as well as find what happened to the troll. As if he’s not got enough to do, he also needs to catch the “Thin man’s” demons that are returning to what they once had been prior to the “Thin Man”. Lilli is really upset about her missing demons, and afraid that the demoneater is going to eat them. There is a strange man who always happens to be hanging around when something supernatural is in the air. Nat has his hands full, but with his friends he should be able to save the day.

I really liked book to better then book one because I was already familiar with the characters and felt like it flowed a lot smoother. It’s such a fast pasted story like the first one no so much gory like the first either, I found this one had a few comical moments like the first; I had to lean over and tell the hubby what I was giggling about. I really like the Sandy and Nat relationship they both are unique in their own but they make it work. In book 2 Nat has taken Richie under his wing to train him to be a demonkeeper too which I really liked since I kind of felt bad since he lost his friend. Overall it’s a great story you learn a little more about the demons around the world that not all are bad they are more chaos in the world or that they create chaos. I look forward to starting the next one.

“He is devouring them,” it said simply. My mentor is a Demoneater.” Read the journal in which a Demonkeeper was writing in. He has just realized that his mentor, the one who trained him to be a Demonkeeper is no longer the man he knew. This was bad, really bad. You see a Keeper’s job was to give demons a safe place to live.

The book then fast-forwards to present day, where the Fremont troll has disappeared. This would not normally warrant attention, except the troll was incased in two tons worth of concrete, wire and steel rebar. Instead of being a statue in the park like the normal humans thought, the troll was really a sedentary entity who liked to make folks squirm. While Nat, Sandy and Richie are out looking for the troll they run into to equally strange characters. Mr. Calamitous, a weird researcher and Lilli a free-spirit from San Francisco.

The introduction of another female character- as we all know will lead to a love tri-angle. The love tri-angle does little to help the book move along. The execution of the love tri-angle is awkward at best. In fact, it actually made me very mad at Nat- how dare he put Sandy though this. As each other’s first romantic interest, one would have hoped that Lilli would have just been a friend to Nat and Sandy. But no- Buckingham goes there. Even worse, there is no true resolution of the tri-angle before the end of the book.

Demoneater is a refreshing take on the paranormal world that had exploded over the last few years. I had a hard time cheering for Nat, the main character. Yeah, he helps Richie out and gives him a place to live. Richie by the way is hilarious. Sandy is loyal and resourceful, a character that you want happiness for. Lilli, is well weak, with a woe is me kinda attitude that annoyed me. Why? Her character sees the beauty in things, but it is not portrayed every well.

The entity that scares the Troll into hiding does not come out into the open until chapter 23. I cannot help but wonder if the introduction of the bad guy earlier would have made the book read at a faster pace.

The cover of the book while eye-catching does not give anything away, neither does the synopsis. This is a shame because while some do judge a book by the cover, others judge it by the synopsis. I did not feel that either did the book justice. A trio of teenagers, surrounded by mischievous demons while a female teen looks on from the distance with a demon on her shoulder would be a better jacket for the book.

I am going to have to rate this book 2½ stars out of 5. I was excited to read the book and remained excited about it until Chapter 10 titled Two Kisses. While I do like love tri-angles, I feel that not all books need them. This one clearly did not, as it crushed my enjoyment of the book greatly.

Demoneater & Demonocity are the second and third books in the Demonkeeper series and what a terrific series it is, not just for boys, who Royce Buckingham aims his books at, but for anyone who wants an action filled tale with a lovely touch of humour and, best of all, an interesting conceptual basis.

These demons are born of chaos, but rather than kill them, Demonkeepers, keep the demons safe from the humans and the humans safe from the demons. Without chaos our world is sterile, boring, too predictable, so chaos and its demonic manifestations must remain. It’s a great idea and the ramifications of it are beautifully laid out in these novels. Minor demons include such things as carpets that trip you, cameras that wobble, beds and blankets that move, ladders that walk, the froth on beer, dust motes and so on. The major demons are elementals, the demons of earth, water, air and fire. These guys can grow and get out of control, but to Demonkeepers they are as innocent and worth protecting as wild animals are to a zookeeper.

Blurb: Ever since his mentor disappeared, Nathaniel Grimlock has been charged with the responsibility of keeping the demons that live in his old, rickety house… alone. Demons are all around us. Most of them are relatively harmless, but some are dangerous… some can kill. In Demoneater and Demonocity, the demons are back and causing more chaos than ever in the rainy city of Seattle. Whether the demons are burning their way through the Seattle underground or threatening to topple the Space Needle, it’s Nat’s job to keep them under control.

I really can’t fault these books. They’re unique, well structured, well paced and simply and effectively written for young readers. They build, like wind in a vortex, to battles where our young heroes & heroines must dig deep into their resources in order to vanquish the enemy —the stuff of all good tales. The books also make you look at the world a little more deeply, a quality I love in a book. Reading them helps you to appreciate chaos and its role in the world, and makes you look more closely at that carpet you keep tripping over.

If I had boys, these books would definitely be on their Kindles, but girls will love them too. They’d be great read aloud to a variety of ages. Indisputably 5 stars and a place on the Awesome Indies listing.

This book started off in the 1700's in Ireland. George is writing about his master's return. His master, the Demon Keeper had disappeared for a month and they thought he was dead. He tells George he survived by eating the bugs that infested his ship and yet he lost all of the demons he had captured. George realizes something has changed in his master. His last entry tells us his master has become a demoneater.
Fast forward to current Seattle and we once again find Nat, Richie and Sandy together. When a giant cement troll under a bridge disappears they realize that something is seriously wrong in Seattle. We meet Lilli,a young hippie type who is also looking for the Troll. Sandy is jealous of Lilli. Nat realizes that Lillie is a Demon Keeper. She considers herself a collector. She collects all of the colorful peaceful demons. Nat on the other hand hunts the more mischievous demons. Lilli has been keeping a secret. She only tells Nat, Sandy and Richie about it when her demons are killed. She has known for quite some time that something was stalking her and now she has led it to Seattle. Sandy is furious and points out that Nat, his house and his demons are now at risk. You must read this book to find out if he can rescue them and find out who or what the Demoneater is. I loved how the tension was taken up a notch. I am finding that I don't like Nat very much. He tends to talk down to Richie at times. He is also a very insensitive boyfriend. Lilli came across too strong toward Nat at the beginning of the book. This dysfunctional family of four seem to have real issues with relationships. One thing that made me really love this book was the way the author used demons to explain events in history. Demons Wedge and Char were responsible for the Great San Francisco earthquake and fire, or the Great Chicago Fire. I loved getting a better look at some of the demons.

Loved this one, finished it in one day! Buckingham did an amazing job. I loved how he worked his demons into the modern world, even including real world land marks. The troll under the bridge is an awesome example! Plus there are pictures at the end of some of the places in the book!
I have to admit I haven't read the first book in the series. After having read this one it has definitely made me want to get a copy of Demon Keeper. But even though it is the second book in the series, I think it is capable of standing on it's own. I don't feel as if I was missing any important information and I wasn't at any point.

I really liked his characters too. Sandy and Ritchie were both smart and funny. I wasn't too sure about Nat at the beginning. Sorry I think the way he treats Sandy is kinda toolish, I did start to like him in the end though. I really liked the different demons and their different personalities as well.

I kinda figured out who the villain was early on in the story, but it really didn't take away from my enjoyment. In fact I couldn't wait to get to the part when the heroes finally figured it out.

Over all I think this book was awesome! I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an awesome new read. I can't wait to get to the third book which is quietly waiting on my Kindle and I plan on picking up a copy of the first book asap. Also I think it is readable for both younger readers as well as adult readers. There's nothing inappropriate for younger teens/pre-teens and there's lots of action. But there is also a lot that would interest us older kids as well.

This book was great! I grabbed me from the first page and did not let go. I am looking forward to reading the next one in this series. It had a great beginning and a wonderful ending. It features some misfits, of course demons and a bit of jealousy. However most all is worked out before the ending. If you would like a good read this is one book that I would recommend.
