A brief but very beneficial read on the concept of time in this dunya and making the most of our time. However, I did feel it to be a bit incomplete (maybe it was the translation)
The translation was a bit unsatisfying, however, the book is quite motivating. . "Do not ever preach without an intention and do not walk without an intention. Don't even swallow a bite without an intention. All of this will become clear to you once you get acquainted with the characteristics of our predecessors."
"Youthfulness dispirits the guided, and misguides, the rebellious and ignorant ones. Abandoning sins when one is old and his hair is grey, is not like the one who abandon sins when he is young. Rejoice if you struggled against your desires patiently, O friend, yell at idle play and tell its fire to be extinguished.”
- It had been a while since I read a book so I wanted to read something small. The book is fairly short, I finished it all together in a couple of hours. The book was a great motivation and guide to get disciplined. The book has some good advice for parents also, such as marrying of your children young, as you also bared the same pain of not being married. Also at the back of the book holds some advice on disciplining your children. Books very concise and straight to the point. One of my favourite quotes from the book is, ‘ Indeed, I exhaust myself in worship because easiness is what I’m looking for’ p.g 45. The book did have useless speech as well, we ask Allah to forgive Ibn Jawzi for this, but he included speech of Plato, which wasn’t needed and the athar from the sharia is more than enough.
"Whoever knows the nobility and privilege of life and its value will not waste a second of it." This book is a great reminder book for all - especially for parents.
