A Tangled Web Well Weaved That Only Faith Can Change She only wants her true love. Lady Grace de Melan has no intention of marrying the man her father and Prince John have chosen for her. So she runs away to find Edmund, the Knight Templar who is holding her heart. With Prince John's men in close pursuit, she is rescued by a wayward monk who is anything but pious... He's better off dead. Guy Ashton faked his own death to save a friend, and now hides his identity under a monk's robes. After discovering that the girl he rescued is sought by Prince John, Guy realizes his own life is now in danger. Determined to protect himself, he decides to deposit her in the next village. But he can't resist her pleas for help even if it means darkening his soul with a plot of revenge and murder.
Olivia Rae spent her school days dreaming of knights, princesses and far away kingdoms; it made those long, boring days in the classroom go by much faster. Nobody was more shocked than her when she decided to become a teacher. Besides getting her Master’s degree, marrying her own prince, and raising a couple of kids, Olivia decided to breathe a little more life into her childhood stories by adding in what she’s learned as an adult with her first Christian romance series, The Sword and the Cross Chronicles. When not writing, she loves to travel, dragging her family to old castles and forts all across the world.
An enjoyable medieval mystery! I honestly wasn't sure how everything would end. My only fault towards it was the thought that the trial near the end lagged a bit although I can understand why with bringing everyone's viewpoint to clarity.
If there had been a higher raring I would have rated it higher. This Christian novel set in King John's time is the third in the series. It is exciting with the right touch of love and struggles to appeal to every reader. Kings , Templar Knights, peasants, those who aware rich and those who wear rags and go shoeless.Scripture at every chapter pertaining to that chapters bounty..I loved reading all the books in this series and highly recommend them.
Olivia Rae does it again! I really enjoyed this book. Found myself choked up at several points, smiling at others, and uplifted when it was over. She obviously knows the time period well (or is a thorough researcher!) and the way she weaves her knowledge throughout the story makes it even stronger. Well done.
I loved this story of lies, love, and redemption. Guy is a man who has lost sight of what really matters. And Grace is a woman determined to find the man she loves, no matter what. The end result is a wonderful story with timeless messages of faith and hope. Oliva Rae has such a talent for making the medieval period come alive.
My review today is on the Medieval Romance, Redemption. This is the book 3 of the Sword and the Cross Chronicles. This book was sent to me by the author because I so enjoyed the first two books. I think this might have been my favorite of the three. I really liked Guy and was glad he had his own story. I loved the old man that came to him and was also in book two. A cool visitation. This book is well written, action packed, and humorous. I know you are going to love it.
Sir Guy Ashton is traveling by mule across the country. He had faked his death(book two) and now is headed to join the monks. He runs into a young lad who is in trouble. The kings men were after him. He helps the boy only to find it's not a lad at all but a girl running a way from an arranged marriage. The girl turns out to be ill and Guy takes her to his estranged brother's Keep. They sneak into the keep and up a secret passage to his brother's wife's room. She is a healer and will help them. The wife is dead and they find his brother there with another woman. He threatens to kill Guy. It seems he is the man she is to marry. Guy must save her from the marriage for his brother is a cruel and evil man. Her father storms in and takes charge. Prince John shows up and Guy tells them all that he and the girl are married.
Lady Grace de Melan is frantic to escape the marriage her father is forcing on her. Her heart belongs to Sir Edmund who has traveled to the Crusades. She manages to escaped by dressing like a boy. She begs the monk to help her. She becomes ill and wakes to find herself at the very Keep the king's men were taking her. She goes a long with Guy's statement of their marriage. The king send men out to Crosswinds to find the priest who was suppose to have married them. Then he will decide what to do with them.
An adventure that turns all of their lives upside down. It takes time to help Guy become the man he needs to be and for Grace to realize she wasn't trying to get to Edmund but to be free. God has a plan for these two; a good plan and not for evil. God has a plan for you too. You aren't going through these kinds of adventures but you do have an enemy that is trying to steal, kill, and destroy. Give Him your heart and learn what He has in store for you.
This novel was an interesting quick read. At only just over 200 pages you can get through it in a few hours, so if you want at historical romance with adventure, its a good choice. Guy has an interesting character arc, and there are some good messages about redemption and forgiveness.
I give the lower rating for two reasons. Firstly because the two protagonists spent most of the book doing stupid and pig-headed things, and enacting their own selfish plans, and refusing to listen. I understand this was necessary to the story, but it was carried out too long.
Second. Although this novel is set in the late 12th century and the basic historical details are right, the characters have very modern ideas. Its common, I'm starting to notice, for the women in this series to whinge and whine about men 'controlling their lives'.
Also there is a reference to a character dying of the plague: presumably the Black Death. This is totally inaccurate, since the Black Death did not come to England until 1348, a full century and a half after this novel is set. Its almost like The Plague is becoming a plot contrivance that authors think they can drop anywhere in Middle Ages. Rather like Vikings.
Finally, I can't help but feel the depiction of Prince John in these novels is too good to be true. I mean he comes over as a nice guy. OK so he may not have been the Devil incarnate, but there's evidence aplenty to suggest he one of the worst rulers England ever had. The John in these novels is not that man.
SENSUALITY RATING: No PROFANITY; No SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS; No Euphemistic "CODE WORDS
GENRE: Historical English Romance; CLEAN Romance; Inspirational Romance; Mystery
SETTING: De Barres Keep.
CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTER: Lady GRACE de MELAN – courageous; on the run; willing to take the blame.
CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: GUY ASHTON – incognito; ex Knight in the Templar Order; closest friend to Julian (book 1 and 2).
SYNOPSIS: Grace went on the run trying to get to her true love Edmund. She ran into Guy begging for protection. She becomes ill and he runs to the closest Keep. Attempted murder ensues.
WHAT I LIKED: Going thru the tunnel and look who he finds. AND, courage and a pat on the back leads to a new friend.
RATING: (5) stars BECAUSE plot was a great rescue to surrounded with attempted murder. This is a perfect inspirational with a light touch of romance around a strong emphasis on “whodunit”. I consider this is an adult romance safe for YA.
Each Book in this series completely different. Enjoyable Reading
This was a delightful read. It brought lots of little chuckles and smiles to me, while on the other hand there were some shady things that I completely missed until the answers were out in front of me. I really enjoy the Bible verses that Ms. Are used at the beginning of each chapter. I liked Guy very much in Revelation and just loved him in this book. It is easy to become a part of these characters in Olivia's books, New friends almost. I also have enjoyed the times in each book that the main character has met with a very special SOMEONE and the whole scenario that is developed. AWESOME! I would highly recommend these books of you enjoy good, clean, Christian, historical romance. Each book has been completely different and I look forward to reading the remaining two books. I did receive a copy of this book from the author, but I was under no obligations. This is my personal review with my own input and thoughts. Vicki from Wyoming
I like this book because I like reading about the Crusades. Lords and knights have always interested me. The middle of the book is a little bit slow but the story keeps your attention and you have to keep reading to find out what happens next all the way to the end. The end is a little abrupt but I don't know how else to end. I recommend this series to anyone who likes adventure and reading about sword fighting and Lords Ladies and Knights. I'm starting the next book as soon as I finish this review. Happy Reading. DVH!
People seeking their own interests above others' make a fine mess of everything. It is hard to find truth and virtue in this mire of evil plots and bad choices and selfish ambitions. HOWEVER, the lead male and female characters have a few likeable characteristics and garner the reader's sympathy, ensnaring the reader in all the drama of the multiple forces against them, inspiring a desire to cheer them on to a happily-ever-after.
Redemption book 3 in the medieval series is a fantastic story of a man who embraces God's grace and turns his life around. The author is very talented and write a page turner filled with meaning and purpose. I love how she presents God's truth and love through her fictional characters' lives. The plot and character development are wonderful. On to the next book. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
The setting, mystery, and the love story work together to create a spellbinding read. That the LORD'S Grace and love winds throughout the plot makes it even more memorable.
If your taste is for medical romance, with knights, intrigue, maidens rescued then this Book and this series is for you. Absolutely glued to every page!
If you enjoy a good medieval story with knights, ladies & secrets then you will not be disappointed. In the shadows lurks a mysterious person who is not what they seem. Can you unravel the clues?
Amid the mystery a tender love blooms, but will this new love be strong enough to withstand the trouble ahead?
I have read all of this authors books and each one is better than the book before. I really enjoyed Guy's story. He was a real person with real problems and even though he found hid faith, he still struggles with daily life situations. A must read.
