Broken

Rate this book

'Broken' is the powerful tale of two wounded people, finding healing in each other. Vividly set in the beautiful vineyards of Spain, the mean streets of New York, and the bright lights of Las Vegas, this 95,000 word novel tells the story of an MMA fighter seeking redemption, and a feisty young journalist looking for love.

Silas

His last fight put super-heavyweight Silas Batras in a wheelchair - but he'd been 'broken' long before that.

Young, dumb and hungry, Silas had fled to America from Spain, chasing his dream of MMA stardom. But the price of that opportunity had become more than he could bare.

First, he'd wound up becoming a married woman's plaything, just to pay his bills. Then he'd risked everything for his shot at the championship - and wound up nearly crippled, instead. Now he was alone, penniless, and learning to walk and fight again. His dream had become a nightmare.

But that was before Silas met HER - and suddenly, he had something real to fight for again.

Lyssa

Time and again, Lyssa Meadows had followed her heart into the wrong bed, and the wrong decisions - but this time, it had been especially devastating.

She'd been swept into a love affair with two men at once - or, at least, she'd thought it was love. Instead, Lyssa had wound up devastated - kicked to the curb like she was nothing.

Left at her very lowest - ashamed, lonely and scared - Lyssa thought she had nothing left to live for. But then she met Silas. A broken man, chasing a broken dream.

Could Lyssa be the one to build him back up? To rebuild his future, and put him back in touch with his past?

And could she find something true and meaningful in her own life, along the way?

Can two broken halves combine to make a beautiful whole?

Explicit, emotional and exciting, BROKEN is a full-length novel, and climaxes with a HEA and no cliffhanger. Enjoy!

Hi! I'm Simone Scarlet, and thanks for checking out my author page!

I was originally born and brought up in a cathedral city in England, but moved to America a few years ago. I've always written erotica, and have been published in magazines like Hustler and Jacques on both sides of the Atlantic.

I have an INCREDIBLY eclectic range of sexual tastes, and most of them find their way into my stories in one way or another! Most of my adventures are based around a fictional married couple, Gina and Simon, and the crazy and explicit adventures they have.

I'm really turned on by slutty wives, cuckold husbands, interracial erotica and good, old-fashioned orgies and gangbangs. I have a particular kink for impregnation and breeding; and you'll find many of my heroines aren't as careful about their birth control options as I recommend you be in real life!

I am also turned on by the idea of sexual reluctance, or even out-and-out rape fantasies. It's not that I want to get raped - just that rape fantasy is a way to explore wild and kinky sexual activities without getting labeled a "slut" for wanting them.

I hope you enjoy my stories, and welcome any feedback or suggestions on how to make them better!

Gifted an ARC for an honest review...
This is the book that never ended...162 Chapters PLUS an epilogue. There was so much extra, unnecessary, and unrelated stuff in this book, it could have easily been 2 or 3 books. This could have been a simple story about Lyssa and Silas, who cares about a sex club in Vegas, who cares about the details of Travis and Nicolai. Because of all this extra crap, Lyssa went from a possibly likable heroine, into pretty unlikable most of the time. I never give 1 star, but I was that disappointed.

So much potential...

Reading the blurb for this book I was very excited to read it and at first I was really into it and then it started to fall flat and a lot of the story felt like unnecessary filler. Lyssa and Silas' story wasn't a bad one but drawing it out in like one hundred and fifty chapters was a bit much in my opinion. One thing that rubbed me the wrong way was how fighter Rashaan Jackson kept being referred to as "The big black fighter" I get being descriptive but saying it over and over was overkill or so I thought. I don't like giving negative reviews but I couldn't in good conscious give this book anything above 3 stars.

*took Me this kind due to moving and unable tí really have time to read*

I received this book for free to give my True and Honest Review

I really did get to love the stubborn Super Heavyweight MMA Fighter 9o9 Spaniard Silas Batras, who in the start sold his body to Nicola Hedberg the wife of his sponsor Jared Hedberg who seems to always seems to get what ever she wants. Well that is until things go drastically wrong during this fight he HAS to win to show he's on top of his game after being defeated by Magnus Bjorn and I'll say not a one fight wonder.
That is until Lyssa Meadows (who I really liked from the off go) a lover & reporter of MMA comes into his life wanting to interview him and will do all she CAN do to interview him, including finish off the interview she tried to start BEFORE this dramatic fight came crashing down for Silas and that is to fly to Logroño the region where Rioja is made & to his family home which is also a winery of Bodega Batras. This is where we see such a completely different person, still stubborn and oh so angry with life as he left this life behind him & we get to know his family, his brother Alberte sister in law Celestina and nephews César and Chucho who all love him though still angry with him for up and leaving the family business behind to go to America to fulfil his dream of becoming this fighter.
He vertices he'll never walk again but his Doctor says it's ALL his mind and he's got to believe in himself again, which ask changes when the family's enemy Bruno Buenaventure who's father Aldophe wants their Winery, comes and threatens the family and Lyssa, which then changed the relationship between Silas and Lyssa.
After Lyssa's couple of weeks are up she leaves even though you can see Silas wants her to stay and deep down so does she. Then there's another turning point when persuades her to go to Silas to page her to bring him back for this one fight which she agrees to even she heard what he'll pay him just to get back to America and she knows it'll help them save the bodega. This is where things heat up for all the Batras family and Lyssa and becomes more intense with the Buenaventure family.....
The only negative I will say is that there is a fair bit of repetitiveness in areas and the amount of chapters which I thought could be condensed together more

I received this book as a complimentary ARC for an honest review.

Wow, great book! This is the second time I read Simone Scarlet’s books. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this MMA book that I could not put it down, and loved the characters of Silas and Lyssa. I also found this book to be entertaining and enlightening about MMA fighters and how they prepare for a fight. Silas is a MMA fighter from Spain, and ever since he was boy, he wanted to be a MMA fighter instead of helping out at his family’s vineyard. Lyssa is from New Jersey and she loves covering the MMA fighters as a journalist. Lyssa covered the big fight between Silas “El Torro” Batras and Wlodek “The Bear” Winogrodzki. Did Silas or Wlodek win the fight? Lyssa found Silas to be downright sexy. After the fight, Silas returned to Spain. Why did Silas go back in Spain? Lyssa went to Spain to get the story on Silas, and that is when the action and suspense starts. This story is intense and the searing sensuality that was created in this book will leave you gasping for air. You will need to read the book to find out about the great fight, which will put you on the edge of your seat.

I was given a ARC in exchange for an honest review. I found this book fairly fast moving, very intense. Lyssa seems to not be able to catch a break in either her personal life or her professional life. Having Lyssa be a sports writer covering the MMA scene seemed somewhat unusual, her spunk and grit seemed very right for the job. Her relationship with a few of the fighters blew up in her face when they broke it off with her, made her a little weary of the big Spanish fighter, El Toro yet she found herself in a whirlwind adventure with Silas. Silas had many hurtles to overcome after is latest bout in the octagon leaves him in a wheelchair, back home at his family's struggling vineyard. Silas has to find himself or is new place in life having to adjust to a new way of life. Lyssa's trip to write about Silas' injury she finds herself becoming more involved in to Silas' life and problems. The fight scenes were well written. Plenty of intense sex scenes, some threesome activity. A quick intense read.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review (Thank you!).

Silas always thought fighting was his ticket out of Spain and the family business, but his last fight put him in a wheelchair. Now he’s back in Spain, and determined to be part of his brother’s life again. Lyssa has followed Silas to Spain, in hopes of following through on her reporting job, but Silas has been sneaking into her heart.

I loved Broken! Ms. Scarlet writes with finesse and kept my interest from the very beginning. She fills her story with plenty of detail without the reader even catching on until it’s too late. The issues within the book were very realistic, sometimes quite intense. I feel Ms. Scarlet does a thorough job with a story and keeps the interest up throughout. I did feel it was a little long, but loved the characters and their interactions, which made up for the length. Some of the scenes made me want to jump in and be a part of it all! This is my first and only read from this author, but I very much look forward to reading many more of her books in the near future! 5 Stars!

Okay I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't do it. I did manage to finish but I feel like I had to really push myself to make it there. The hero is broken and I never got a warm fuzzy feeling about him, not even after he came around. The heroine was likable but I never made a connection with either one and I think that is why I didn't enjoy this story as much as I might have.

I also felt like some of the research was not there. As an example, and this may be picky, but I feel like if an author is going to reference a world famous medical school, they should get the basic facts (like the actual name and location) right. In this one, our Spanish doctor is said to have attended "John Hopkins" in Boston. In actuality, JOHNS Hopkins is in Baltimore, Maryland.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Hidden Gems for my honest review. All thoughts and words contained here are entirely my own.

Silas left his home to come to the US to be a MMA fighter. Lyssa is a sports reporter who loves the sport as well as many of the fighters. When they first meet, she has just been dumped by her two lovers and he is getting ready for the fight of his career. It leaves him with an injury that puts him in a wheelchair but starts a friendship between the two.

I had read the other MMA book Bruiser by the author and liked this one much better. The big difference was the characters. While they may have flaws, they are likeable. They are good people who make poor choices at times. Often they do so in a desire to be with someone to stop the loneliness.

Silas And Lyssa are both really fighters. She is not afraid to stand up and protect people she cares about from harm. They learn to really care for one another and it is not easy for them to overcome their pasts.

•Intense

This is a great story of how you can go from living the dream you thought you had for yourself, to living the dream that was meant for you to TRUELY be happy! Simone did an excellent job with her descriptions of the land, and especially the octagon! I laughed, cried happy, angry and sad tears, and TRUELY sat on the edge of my seat during the descriptive fights, I felt like I was ringside. The love story that comes out could be true life happening. It's worth a read and the 5 stars I'm giving it.

I received this book free as an ARC for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. Silas winds up in a wheelchair after a horrible incident during a fight. Lyssa is a journalist covering the MMA. Silas returns to Spain and Lyssa is at a low point after a threesome with 2 other MMA fighters ends. Lyssa arrives in Spain to interview Silas, but with his family’s winery hanging on by a thread due to an inflectional family who owns the local police they have a fight on their hands. Silas ends up fighting again to try to save the winery and then Lyssa has to fight to keep Silas.

I received this book for an honest review. It took some time for me to really get into the book, it started off slow but once I got past that it really intrigued me. I really enjoyed following the story with it's twists and turns, in the beginning I was really mad at how Lyssa was acting but as the story went on she grew on me. If you enjoy MMA romance books I think you will enjoy this one.

This book drove me nuts. The first f e w chapters were good, then it went to crap. What a bunch of skanks. Alyssa was the worst skunk of them all. With every character were talking HIV testing people.

I enjoyed the love story of two people who felt that they're broken. I absolutely loved how two people who had so much love could feel so broken. I'm glad Silas and Lyssa found true love plus were able to fix the broken part and become whole again.
