If the L WORD (hot fantasy lesbians), Sex and the City (engaging in girl talk), and Seinfeld (about nothing) were dumped into a martini shaker, what would emerge is the Thalia Chase: Sex Therapist series. The series both informs and entertains the reader as the heroine becomes your own personal virtual sex therapist.
As we peer into Thalia's life in this first book of the series, we are introduced to her chosen family and the community in which both her practice and her life thrives.
Thalia's life is perfect. She has her dream house on the edge of Lake Cumberland in Nancy, Kentucky. She has a thriving sex therapy practice. Her sister has just moved nearby and is running the daily business of her practice.
She has a tight group of friends who keep her entertained and honest and a seemingly endless supply of ladies to meet her more basic human needs. Thalia has no regrets she's without a life partner.
Or does she?
A rough break-up five years ago left Thalia's heart in pieces. Thanks to friends and family her heart healed and she was able to find peace and happiness again. But not without scars that have left her unwilling to be vulnerable and exposed again.
When Amara walks into Thalia's practice seeking help for her friend, something ancient and terrifying stirs inside her.
Will Thalia be able to keep their interaction professional or will the allure of "one who will be forever beautiful," as her name suggests, be too much for Thalia and her fragile heart to resist?

ok, I was admittedly in a mood when i dnf'd this one. I don't like this narrator, but after having just listened to a worse one, i decided to give this book another try.
i did not like the writing style at all. And having it finish on a cliff hanger with "to be continued" means i do not recommend this book.
People fall in love or just have random sex for all sort of reasons. A sex therapist is also just one of those people. Janice and Thalia plays the game very well and they are competitive when it comes to women. But with no emotional strings and no commitment. Thalia is not a therapist to just spice things up. She gives counsel on real life issues. Everything changed the day at the raft-up. Thalia has gotten herself in a real mess. She is the pro but she doesn't know how to get out of that mess. Lucky for her, she has her awesome friends and sister for setting her straight about her feelings, facing the facts. This story was touching with just the right amount of twists and turns to keep turning the pages. There are humorous dialogues and scenes and I particularly enjoyed the scene on the float. I had to laugh out loudly. I know a book is good by how the characters draw me in and feeling the emotions with them. I also know a book is excellent when I forget everything around me. And it happened both. This book had me smiling from the start. Two thumbs up for the author.
I get this will be one of a series, but with all the characters and stories (a bit dull, I'm sorry to say that) it has been a really boring experience to read it till the end. And all the womanising Thalia does, come on, it's just not credible. I didn't feel the connection between Thalia and Amara, not build up just void and unbelievable circumstances
This is an unusual read. For a start it’s in the third person and present tense, so we are told everything about our characters. There were times when the descriptions got a little long, but overall I fond it refreshing and intriguing.
It’s a romance, in the last twist you could even call it a traditional romance, but it’s also extremely erotic and full of thoughtful relationship exploration. In the end I could only categorise it as a fictional biography, almost the journal of our main character, sex therapist Thalia.
It starts with a lot of relatively shallow erotic scenes that may put some readers off, but actually perfectly set the tone for Thalia’s womanizing lifestyle. Throughout we are introduced to Thalia’s friends, a lively bunch, and her clients, which allows Baker to explore a whole range of relationship situations and issues from internalised homophobia to issues around parenting and of course that fear of being vulnerable, letting somebody back in to hurt us again.
There are some laugh out loud scenes and interactions, an unusual rendition of Dickens and enough twists and turns to make it interesting. Throughout there is a clear sense that the author loves these women. Ultimately it is the interrelationships of Thalia and her family of choice that imbues the novel with affection.
The setting it interesting and the lake scenes drawn with loving care. We might raise an eyebrow at a rural Kentucky small town being quite so chock-a-bloc with women throwing themselves at our heroine.., but it is a work of fiction. I definitely need to visit to find out for myself.
Overall an enjoyable read. A good first novel and I will certainly be looking for the next one to see where Ms Baker takes this concept and crew.
I haven't read many books with this trope, but this is my second one in two days. I don't read book blurbs that often, and when I do, I'll wait some time to forget what a book is about so that I have no knowledge or expectations. The other book was by an author that I follow, and don't read her blurbs at all.
All of that being said, this was a good book. I liked the main characters and their story, as all as the supporting characters in their lives. There are also dogs and horses for the animal lovers.
Thalia Chase is a sex therapist I know it’s come out of a bad relationship. She’s been single for five years and has been called a womanizer. The story is a good one and the characters are great. How does A womanizerLove ones out in the end find a relationship. That is the plan of the story and then there’s a good one. In this book is a good love story. This book was given to me as an ARC but my opinions are my own.
This book totally sucked me into the story and I felt like I knew and was friends with the characters. I could not put this book down and ended up reading it all in one sitting, I'm not even sure I moved. When I read the last line I wanted more immediately, I was not ready for it to end, at the same time I loved how the ending finished this part of the story, but also left it open for more.
I read this book four days ago and I am still thinking about the characters and their stories. I can't wait for book two.
This book is written in third person omniscient and present tense which is unusual. It helps to make this story both different and stand out.
I absolutely loved Thalia and found myself not only pulling for her as the main character, but also for all the other characters. I totally fell in love with Sammy (Thalia's best friend) and can't wait to hear more about her. Also you find yourself really pulling for the characters that are in therapy with Thalia, hoping they get a happy ending.
As I said above, this book really sucked me in, I felt so many emotions while reading it, I was angry one minute, felt like crying with sympathy the next, then I found myself laughing out loud. It was definitely a roller coaster ride that I loved.
I definitely recommend this book. It will be one that I read again and again, especially while waiting for book two….which I want to read NOW. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book.
However, cliffhangers are a cheap way of getting readers to buy a second book. Additionally you need an editor, several small error and distract from the book.
