What is true friendship really worth?

A psychological thriller that will draw you in and keep you guessing!...

When Emily receives an e-mail from her estranged childhood friend, Ali, she instantly looks forward to reading what it has to say. She hasn’t seen or heard from Ali in a very long time and hopes that they can begin to rekindle the perfect friendship they once had.

But when Emily opens the e-mail, she finds it isn’t the friendly message she had hoped for. Instead, it is a desperate plea for help from Ali to tell Emily she could be in danger.

Growing increasingly concerned for Ali’s safety, Emily is forced to return to the seaside town where she and Ali had grown up. The same town that she had fled from over fifteen years ago, when she had sworn she would never return.

Once back there, Emily is quickly thrown into a game of cat and mouse, where she must follow the clues to help her old friend. But time is against her and she is constantly looking over her shoulder.

It appears Emily isn’t alone, and must hurry before her past finally tracks her down...

It takes alot for me to give a book a single star. The writing was incredibly juvenile, but I pushed through because of the short length and the free price tag. The book was clearly not edited. (Or at least not edited well.) The plot twist at the end was just plain bad. It went from being the only obvious person to some character I didnt even remember.

Need a quick thriller read? Something to read by the pool or beach?

See You Soon by NC Marshall follows Emily when returns to her small town after she gets a mysterious email from her friend, Ali who she hasn't talked to in 15 years, right before she is reported missing. During her stay she tries to unravel the mystery...where is Ali? Why did she disappear?

What I didn't like:
The ending and the story, in general, seemed very rushed. I wish the author took more time to build up the plot line and the relationships between characters. It felt like a novella as opposed to a novel and could have done a lot more with the premise.

What I did like:
The story had a premise and the occasional change in POV to the mysterious antagonist was successful and helped to build some suspense. The story also had a protagonist I liked and rooted for to the end.

If you're looking for a thriller that will knock your socks off, I wouldn't pick this up, but I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a quick read or lighter suspense novel. I guess, I would classify this as a beach read thriller. While I don't think it had a lot of depth, I did find it entertaining with suspenseful moments, for the very short read that it was.

I got this book for free on Amazon, and I honestly didn't have the highest expectations.
It wasn't a bad book, but there was a lot of it I just didn't like. Especially the different points of view in the story, while switching between characters in the chapters, I do not like that at all..
The plot itself was good, the idea behind it was good, but there was a lot of unnecessary things added and a lot of repeating.
But for a free book it was fine :)

In this world can you really be sure who your real friends are? You may think someone is your friend but is that friendship worth it which leads to only hatred and agony leaving you blind in the dark? We can't trust anyone now a days, be careful who you call your friend: it might not be worth it.
This is a Griping page turner Psychological novel will leave you guessing.
Just 6 words : What a great friend Emily is!

I first came across this author after reading her debut novel, Sleep Peacefully, which I loved, so was very excited to see she had a new novel out which I bumped right to the top of my to be read pile.

At 186 pages, See You Soon did not take me long at all to read and I literally devoured it within a few hours.

Crime/psychological thrillers have got to be some of my all time favourite reads. I just love the buzz and tension that builds inside of you as you are reading them and See You Soon ticked all the boxes.

Even though Emily returns to her hometown in search of her childhood best friend, it is obvious that Emily also has some things in her past that she would rather keep to herself.

I was really intrigued with Ali's disappearance and was just as confused about it all as Emily was. Even though Emily hasn't seen Ali for many years, you can tell how much she cares about her and regrets letting their friendship fizzle out.

I loved the setting of the story in a small town where everyone knows each other and it isn't long before Emily is bumping into quite a few old faces from her past.

See You Soon had me gripped from beginning to end. For some reason I thought I had the whole thing worked out and was feeling pretty smug with myself. Even though I thought I had it all solved, I still really enjoyed reading the story and was happily waiting for everything to be revealed and for me to be proven right.

Well, I have to say the author totally floored me when I realised I was well and truly wrong with my calculations. Totally jaw dropping stuff which had me uttering "no way" more than a couple of times.

NC Marshall really is an up and coming author who is one to watch out for. If you haven't read any of her books yet, you really should give them a try.

Many thanks to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes one little e-mail can change everything. For Emily, a short note in an e-mail from an old friend in trouble sends her into a mystery. Emily has to sort through things in her past while she tries to find her old friend in the present. The author takes readers into a psychological thriller that is a quick read and a different type of mystery.

English mystery

Enjoyed the read. Part of reading a mystery is to guess who is the bad guy. I didn't get to do that. Disappointed. Then I remembered when reading ALL of the Sherlock Holmes.....we never got that opportunity either. Just be a English thing. But, it was a good book for a lazy afternoon.

Got the book for free on Kindle, and it's honestly a little bit above my expectation. Although sometimes the plot seems forced but overall, I enjoy reading the book. It's really light despite the claim written on the cover saying it's a 'gripping psychological thriller.'
I'd recommend this to those of you who want a quick read.

I can’t even...
I am usually too lazy to write reviews but this is one book I can’t finish and have to warn others. After 30 pages or so I gave up. Maybe it has a good plot. I’ll never know because I can’t stand the childish writing and lack of punctuation. Please get an editor or someone to proofread.

"Not if I see you first"

This was far from being a gripping, psychological thriller. I found it dull and predictable.

Emily left the small town she grew up in for reasons that only she knows. She gets an email that an old friend is in trouble and when she calls the police station she finds out she has been missing. She has to travel back to her hometown to help the cops find her friend, but will they find out that it all is about her and not her friend thats missing. Things have sure changed since high school and college and she must fight to save the ones she loves. A good mystery thriller that is a page turner.

What an interesting thriller. 'See You Soon' pulled me in from the start. I looked how the story played out. I definitely didn't see the ending coming. It could have been more dramatic, but I think it was still intriguing. A good add to your tbr list.

Devoured this book in a few hours and ended up really enjoying it. The plot was intriguing and I found myself really liking and getting to know the main characters, and was very impressed with the quality of writing. I will definitely be reading more of this author's work as she really had a skill of drawing in the reader. The plot twist at the end was really unexpected and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book!

See You Soon is the second captivating psychological thriller by NC Marshall.

Emily is on her way home from work, checking her emails when she notices a name from the past in amongst her junk email. Instantly intrigued and with past memories of her old childhood friend flashing through her mind, she quickly opens the email. But this is no catch up email, sharing news of what her friend has been up to, it's quite the opposite, her old friend Alison is in trouble, she's scared and she needs someone to talk to. There's a phone number included so Emily calls it but it goes straight through to an answering machine and she leaves a message.

Several days go by and Emily doesn't hear back from Ali so she tries to forget about it, telling herself that everything must be ok now but she can't shake a bad feeling that she has so she contacts the police in her old hometown of Sandbroke and it's not long before Emily finds herself travelling back to the seaside town of her childhood that she vowed she would never return to fifteen years ago.

Once she's back in Sandbroke she encounters a few familiar faces but it soon becomes apparent that someone is playing games with her. Is it Alison herself leaving clues to help Emily find her or are they being left to taunt her by someone else who has a more sinister reason for wanting to get back in touch with Emily.

I was hooked straight away by the prologue which described someone aware that they're being followed in a busy shopping area, being threatened with a gun, a deafening bang and then they see nothing but darkness. This was definitely a story with potential and I wasn't disappointed. Emily's past was gradually revealed as well as her childhood friendship with Alison at just the right pace to make me think that I knew who was behind Alison's disappearance on several occasions only for my theory to be proved wrong not long after. The twists and turns keep coming which only caused me to read faster and faster and before I knew it I'd reached the end and all my questions had been answered.

NC Marshall is definitely an author with a very promising future ahead of her and I would highly recommend both See You Soon and her debut, Sleep Peacefully to anyone who enjoys a gripping psychological thriller.

With kind thanks to author NC Marshall for the review copy.

When Emily Moore receives an email from an old school friend, Ali Martin, a chain of events are set in motion that will drag Emily back to her childhood home of Sandbroke - a place she would prefer to forget about. Even though she and Ali had drifted away from each other years ago, Ali's desperate plea for help cannot be ignored. And when Emily discovers that Ali has gone missing, she has no choice but to return, even though it will tear open old wounds.

It does not take long for the mystery surrounding Ali to become even more confusing, as Emily begins to receive letters from Ali herself, leading Emily to believe that Ali is in serious danger and is afraid to be found. But when Emily is injured in a hit and run accident, everything begins to take a sinister turn. For someone is watching and has set this plan in motion, and they have only one thing on their mind - revenge.

As Emily struggles with what is happening, and the emotional memories of her past resurface, this trip is starting to interfere with her sanity. The only positive note is reconnecting with old friends like Mark and Tom Logan - Mark, the older brother figure that she always loved, and Tom, the teenage crush that had never really faded, even after all she had been through. But when Emily's secret past is discovered and Ali's disappearance comes to a head, will Emily lose everything she holds dear?

SEE YOU SOON by NC Marshall is a psychological novel with many twists and turns, that weaves a fascinating journey from beginning to end. Brimming with suspense and mystery, I immediately connected with Emily's character as she struggles to help an old friend, while at the same time fight her own demons from the past. But when past and present collide, this story takes a very dangerous turn. This novel is very well-written and kept me hooked right up to the very end, and the build-up of tension didn't disappoint - I definitely did not see that twist! If you enjoy a thriller with plenty of moments to keep you guessing, then this is the novel for you. It is a shorter novel than some, so it is perfect for your afternoon break. Enjoy!

I'm at 73% and I think I'm abandoning this one. The writing is grating on my nerves. The author chooses overly dramatic verbs for everything, such as having Emily sneer when she should frown, run when she should simply saunter out of the room, and so on. I wish the author would attribute her readers with enough intelligence to deduce the emotions of a character without the gross overreactions. It makes Emily come across as a flailing-about drama queen.

Also, Emily assigns insulting traits to other characters for no reason. One minute she thinks Tom is perfect, the next minute she's referring to his giant ego...despite the fact that Tom has done nothing but show her kindness, help her with an injury, take her on a beautiful date, etc. Fabricating problems with no context, just for the sake of keeping the protagonist and love interest from getting together *too* fast, is lazy writing.

Speaking of Tom, his perfection is ludicrous. He's so intelligent that back in highschool he broke the "highest grades ever" record , yet was simultaneously drop-dead gorgeous, popular, and captain of the football team. Are you freakin' kidding me? Way to go creating a relatable character. All of this perfection makes Tom BORING. He's a Mary Sue with a penis.

From the grammar side of things, this is a train wreck. I'm actually one of the more forgiving readers when it comes to editing issues because I know despite an author's best intentions, sometimes those suckers are going to slip in. But once you get past the first few chapters, the run-on sentences in this book are so excessive that they actually pull you out of the story.

Not for me.

Loved it loved it loved it.Thanks to the author for giving such a great experience.
If you are looking for mystery, suspense, thriller, not guessable climax, go ahead.
This is the first book I am reading of this author. As a huge fan of mystery, thriller, suspense genre, this book satisfied all my conditions for getting into my all time favorites. Its a gripping novel keeping us fully in the world of Emily, Ali, Mark and Tom. I usually guess the villain by the second half of the book. But here the author proved me wrong even after I reached 80 percent of the book. I had never been so happy to be proven wrong.
If ever this book is made into a movie, I will be the first one to grab a ticket. Hope someone comes up with the idea of making into a movie.
The only tiny bit that hindered the flow of reading was the switch between the narrators in between the journey. It might have been written so by the author to make it look different. But somehow I got confused with the first person narrative switching in between. But anyways that could not stop me from giving a five star for this one.
I am surely gonna grab more from this author.

You can go home again…but sometimes it’s hard. Emily thought she would never return to her hometown, to the drama and tragedy that had beset her younger life. She thought that was all behind her…until an email from her former best friend, Ali ignited her memories and all her fears.

What follows is a suspenseful psycho-thriller. Ali has disappeared. Has she met with foul play? Is she dead? Where is she? Even though Emily has not heard from her in fifteen years she must find out. To do so, she must journey to her old hometown and confront long-dormant emotions, animosities, and relationships, most of which are unresolved. She finds that others have unresolved emotional issues involving her as well.

Emily is a mess of unresolved past emotional traumas, including an unsuccessful marriage to an abusive man she has not seen in years. Is he behind Ali’s disappearance? Is he the one with access to Ali’s house, and Emily’s vacation cabin? Does he have the chutzpah and the means to threaten their daughter?

Who knows? Only readers will know for sure as they clutch the edge of their seats while reading this suspenseful story.

A mystery set somewhere on the coast of Southern England. After having no contact with a close friend for nearly 16 years, Emily Moore gets an e-mail from Ali which is a desperate plea for help saying she is in danger. Contacting the police where Ali is living and where she grew up, she finds out that Ali has been missing and the police would like to see her original e-mail so Emily travels 7 hours by train to see the police. Emily withholds and continues to withhold information that she has been contacted by Ali to meet her and doesn't show and then a second contact after she sees Ali who disappears because Ali tells her not to tell anyone. Thus begins a sort of hide and seek game as Emily tries to figure out what is going on while Ali teases her. At this point one begins to wonder about Emily's willingness to play this game and not get the police involved. It doesn't help that Emily appears to little self-confidence and has returned to where she grew up which has major unpleasant memories for her which keeps her mentally off balance.

I got this book because a woman called into a segment on the radio and stated that she started and finished this book in one day. I figured, well it must be good right? It was!

Emily gets a message from her childhood friend, Ali. They haven't seen each other in 15 years. Ali states that she is in trouble and needs Emily's help. Ali doesn't respond to any of the replies that Emily send her so she ends up back in her hometown of Sandbroke. As Emily reconnects with a few old acquaintances she and the Chief Inspector try to find Ali; however, Emily keeps getting messages from Ali and is told not to involve the police.

This was a short, quick read. You don't find out what is really going on until the second to last chapter. Even though I was unable to finish this in one day, I am glad that I took this book as a recommendation and I will be reading more of the books by this author.

Suspenseful thriller
Not a fast-moving action thriller, but rather a slow-moving, captivating tale. Not much happening from chapter to chapter, but enough suspense created to keep me moving forward. A well-written tale, it kept me guessing what was really happening. Guess as I might, I could not have predicted the surprising ultimate outcome. There were actually little in the way of clues during the story to allow for successful prediction. Emily is trying to help her long lost friend, Ali, who has sent a distressful email asking to talk. This leads Emily to travel to her childhood home and relive some of her best and worst memories from her past. Lots of surprises, twists, and turns, lead Emily back to her present-day life where potential catastrophe awaits. I enjoyed the story from front to back.

This book follows the story of Emily who has moved away from her home town, leaving her demons behind her only to be dragged back there 15 years later because her high school best friend is supposedly missing.

This was an easy read to get through and it kept me in suspense wanting to know how the rest of it would all play out

I loved the first three quarters of the book, it kept me wanting to know know more and ultimately kept me reading. However, towards the ends the route you think the book will take doesn’t happen and it’s plot twist surrounds a character whom you least suspect, a character who seems insignificant and you are told none of their background until near the end which is quite disappointing. I felt like the ending of the book was abrupt and it could’ve been padded out slightly more in the epilogue but overall this was a lovely quick read which found me wanting more

Your past won't let go.

Emily receives a message from a long last friend but she hasn't seen Ali in over fifteen years so she is surprised. But Ali is missing and Emily decided to travel back to her childhood village to see if she can help the Police to find. No one can figure it but someone is watching Emily, following her, leaving her clues. But where is Ali and what does the past have to do with anything now? Emily knows that she needs to go back home to her daughter now that Ali has been found but who is leaving her messages then? Could it be her ex who she ran from, who she never told that they have a daughter together? Will she be able to figure it out before it is too late? A good read

Imagination not required

Shortly after starting this book I wondered why I'd purchased it. I struggled to emerge myself in the content as I would with a really good story but couldn't. I realised why... There was nothing to emerge into. My English teacher always said that the best fiction fiction fiction writing is when the writer shows the readers by using various techniques such as adjectives, imagery etc. The writer here uses words to tell you what is happening, what the characters are feeling... and it is all empty. I wasn't invested in the characters as I wasn't given an opportunity to get to know them; I was told they were feeling 😓. The idea for the story may have been good but the execution, I felt, was very poor.

I don't know why, but I categorized this as a cozy mystery thriller. Probably because it took place in a small town.

I enjoyed the story. The plot would make you wanting more with the cliffhangers in almost every chapter. I also like the mystery and the twist of the story. I honestly didn't predict that.

However, the ending felt rush and left me unsatisfied when I finished the book. It felt like the author wrapped up the ending once the mystery has been revealed. And I am actually sad, because I am a bit invested with the relationships of the characters.

Other than that, this is a fun read all in all.
