Simone Porter, an inner city youth center director, has lived her whole life being dominated by her over controlling mother, but yet she still retains her romantic nature and idealistic views about life and love. Matthew Turner, however, has been hurt by a materialistic wife who used his kindness and affection and threw it away for another man. Now his heart is hardened and he feels he will never love again the way he loved his wife. Brought together by an almost deadly accident, Simone and Matthew develop a bond that becomes the basis for a fantastic friendship. Despite the extreme disapproval of Simone s mother and Matt s father, they become best friends. But is friendship alone enough to heal Matt s broken heart? And is Simone capable of going against her mother s wishes and standing for up for what she wants? As they juggle work, family conflicts, and their own conflicting feelings soon the passion and attraction between them becomes too great to ignore. However, Simone is torn between Alan, the man her mom wants for her, and Matt, the man her heart wants for her. Matt must decide between the ex-wife that used to be his everything, and Simone, his Angel . However, in this battle between true love and family influence, Simone and Matt learn that it is sometimes harder than it should be for best friends to become lovers. And Matt s relationship with his ex-wife proves to be more dangerous to them than anyone could have imagined.

Simone Porter is an inner city youth counselor, a job that her over controlling, status obsessed mother believes is beneath her.

Matt Turner is an architect whose recent divorce from his cheating wife Wendy has left him devastated.

The meet after Simone witnesses a car accident involving Matt and a hit and run car. She calls 911 and stays with him until he is taken to the hospital.

He is in a coma for months and Simone, being the sweet, idealistic person she is, feels as if she needs to make sure he is ok. So she visits him frequently much the the delight of Matt's mother but to the chagrin of Matt's grumpy (and vaguely racist) father.

When Matt awakens he is gratified to learn that the voice he had heard while in his coma is attached to this pretty, decent woman.

The two become friends and slowly fall in love.

I am always wary about getting a book from an author whose works neither I nor anyone else I know have read. However, the excerpt on Amazon was meaty enough that I was nicely surprised by the level of the writing and the depth of the characters.

But even that excerpt didn't prepare me for the treat I had in store with this book.

While Simone and Matt are the center of the story and are the main characters, the supporting characters and ancillary plots make this book a mass of soapy, romantic goodness.

There is Simone's mother. This woman is a controlling piece of work! She has managed all parts of her life to her liking and sees Simone as her final frontier. Going so far as to pick out the perfect man for Simone.

There is Wendy, Matt's ex-wife. She is first shown as quite materialistic and venal. And Matt isn't shown in the best light in relation to her. He is schmoopy in love with her so he basically gives her everything she wants even if it is something he can't afford. But she is later revealed to have bigger problems because the guy she left Matt for isn't as nice as he is. I do like the fact that the author showed Wendy's very believable flaws without making her a card board villainess.

There is Matt's father who, as I mentioned above is vaguely racist. He spends a lot of the time in the book making generic homophobic and racist comments but they seem awfully unfocused. More Archie Bunker less David Duke. This is a contrast to his mother who is very warm and sweet.

There is Alan, Simone's perfect (according to her mother) boyfriend who is a bit of an ass-hat. He is very possessive of SImone without seeming very interested in her.

All the different personalities, stories and drama is told in a very effective series of 'jump cuts' that take you from one plot string to the next and keep the story flowing.

This is at the core a sweet friends-to-lovers story and Simone and Matt make a great couple. Of the two, Matt is the better character because I think the author did a better job of balancing him. Simone aggravated me because the author Mary-Sue'd her like crazy. She was a bit too nice, a bit too forgiving. She was just this shy of being a total doormat.

But even with that I still liked this book a lot.

I loved this book, although this could not be named a Erotic romance it was a joy to read the characters evolved and grew i liked the beginning and loved the end. There is alot of racist terms branded about from Matt's father but we are all adults and im sure can get throught that. I love how their relationship grows and he is able to over come ehat was becoming to be an obsession with his ex and move on. And how Simone grew in this book it was great.

Sweet but Busy

When Simone saves Matt’s life when he has a car accident, he considered her to be like an angel and the pair became best friends. Matt was recently divorced and Simone was dating a man her mother REALLY approved of….but as Matt comes to realize that he is falling in love with his bestie will they be able to overcome the conflicts in their way? Simone was sweet….maybe a bit too sweet and the storyline gave the couple too many points of contention. However, If you are wanting to read a story with likable people, varying points of view, some real humor and a surprise twist or two My Angel will satisfy the requirements.

My Angel

I reading this book again after so many years. In this time when world is going through this crisis the book is exactly what I needed. I love the concept of Matt and Simone, cause we all need to have faith in Angel. Matt had his Angel in Simone, and their connection on friendship and love for each other was beautiful.

Interesting book, overall I really enjoyed it. I did however find myself getting extremely frustrated around 80% because it started to get out of hand with the two of them and their lack of communication. All it took was ONE person to state the obvious… but nope it just kept going and going and going until about 86% of the book… which equaled me being annoyed and frustrated.

Now I will say however even in my frustration I was able to see the friendship grow, which was beautiful because it wasn’t like all like OMG I LOVE YOU.. on day 2, but it was a gradual process which was a very nice element to the story.

BUT it still took entirely too long in my opinion, I was about 87% before either thought “ Hey maybe I should open my freaking mouth and express the feelings that I have” and then I was like awww this is great…

and then the book moved in turbo speed… and instead of tying up the loose ends slowly it was like a zipper being pulled up quickly. Just as I got into and started to be excited I looked down and I was then 99% done… I was like wtfool is happening!... well I will tell you what happened I was at the epilogue and the book was done… sigh.

This book is a great read if you go in expecting to see how two people slowly fall in love with each other. I would also warn that it takes a while to see everything placed together but the story is in fact beautiful...and a little frustration… but nevertheless pretty good even with all my complaining.

I have a few friends I would recommend this one too…

I really enjoyed this story. I figure you know a story is good when you are annoyed with a character and I was totally annoyed with Debra. I loved both Mat and Simone. This was definitely an unconventional love story but I thought it very cute.

When your life is filled with others trying to control you then you will only have a short existance. And then you mix in a hero that does not know when to love the right woman. And you get a really old tale with a racial twist.

The concept was good...but very long for the story it told, seemed to hash, re-hash, and re-re-hash the angle of an unreasonable parents.

Great Read

Thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the plot and the relationship in this novel. The touches of humour made it also an emotional read. I highly recommend this book.
