Crimes of passion, brutal slayings, infanticide, and here are eight gruesome and often tragic stories of women accused of murder. Many are little known or long forgotten, such as Mary Osborn, the first woman to be hanged in Upper Canada, executed for poisoning her disappointing husband. Read about the crimes and subsequent trials of Mary and seven other women in this collection of dramatic tales drawn from Ontario's colourful history.
i found this book at the library and it was great! it was interesting to read about crimes that had happened in places i’ve lived and i was presently surprised how well the book commented on how the social conditions of the time period shaped both the crimes, public response and convictions! the author also did a great job at telling the stories without simply relaying the facts or relying on sensationalism. would recommend to anybody who is interested in true crime or Ontarian history
I picked this up at a used book store for 25 cents thinking it would be a lame read about some sketchy women. It was actually very interesting, with lots of detail about each case. If you're looking for some info on true crime in Ontario, or just enjoy reading up on it, you'll probably enjoy this book.
