Jane Donovan has been living a lie. Every day for the past ten years, she's run from reality and the temptation that Tony Ramirez represents. But this year, Jane’s getaway is filled with more than just relaxation; there’s a dead man on her kitchen floor. Suddenly, keeping Tony away is the last thing Jane can do.
Tony Ramirez has wanted Jane for ten years. While she may not be his mate, the attraction is undeniable. When he can’t shake the feeling he needs to check on her, he decides to crash her vacation to ensure her safety. When he gets to her cabin, Jane is gone and nobody knows where she could be.
Finding out who the dead man is may be the least of their troubles when a pint-sized, pink-haired little girl who needs help suddenly makes an appearance. Unfortunately for Jane, the trouble with a small lie is that it grows with time. The truth may come to light before she’s ready. Now they have a murder, a child, a mystery, and the unwavering attraction to deal with.
Milly Taiden (also writes as April Angel) was born in the prettiest part of the Caribbean (to her) known as the Dominican Republic. Currently, she resides in New York City with her husband, bossy young son and their little dog Speedy.
When she’s not working full-time, texting with her best friend Heidi in England, chastising her son for pulling the dog’s ears, shopping with her sister Jewel or watching scary movies with her husband, she can be found writing on her laptop.
She’s addicted to shoes, chocolate, Dunkin Donuts coffee and JIMMY THOMAS covers!!!
Unwanted Protector is book three in the Federal Paranormal Unit by Milly Taiden. It can be read as a stand-a-lone.
Unwanted Protector delivers a murder mystery, conspiracy, aliens, a kidnaped girl, and an attraction that blazes to an inferno at one glance.
So whats not to like?
To start, Jane and Tony see each other across a room for the first time and once their eyes meet, well it's instant and their libidos take over. Yep, they don't know each other, so what do these two strangers do they have hot dirty sex. Jane lets her bodies lust control her. Yes, he knows she's his mate and she feels the same, but that’s not enough for me to have two people hop into bed at first glance. I dis-like these types of hook-ups. Where the couple sleeps with each other; because their body has to have their mate now, especially at the start of a book.
Now lets move onto my second issue. Jane uses her unique abilities to make her mate forget the night of passion as well as making Tony’s tiger forget her smell, so if they do end up in the same room he won’t know that she’s his mate. I was so POD with her that she does this instead of talking to Tony or trying to get to know him.
You may be wondering why does she do this? Well this brings me to the third thing that had me reeling. She was running away from home; because she doesn't want to become like her mother, a domestic house wife. She wants a career. She feels that if she has kids her life will be over. She’ll have to stay at home with them and can't do anything else. GOOD GOD!!
And, to make it worse this was just the prologue. The introduction. Not the actual story…. At this point I was just fed up and thought to myself; do I want to go on or should I DNF? (Well I read the whole thing!)
Last, the insta thing never turned into love for me. Even though the author makes her characters say "I love you." I never did believe that the lust changed to love. The couple does have lots of hot, steamy, and wild sex throughout the book. It was great up to a point, but with the romance not working for me, it felt like it was sex.
What I Did Like: I liked the mystery, conspiracy, and our kidnapped child Sari. She is one unique and special kid. I also enjoyed the aliens or what we learned about them. Jane’s brother was fun and cool. He added a little laughter and levity to the story. Close to the end we do get lots of fighting action; which I always enjoy reading.
Unwanted Protector was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

We are destroying our world little by little and it couldn't be better described, a message for all. This is the long awaited story of Jane and Tony.
Jane came to earth to get away from what she thought was expected of her. She wanted to help people. She wanted to use her gifts to ease the suffering of others. She never imagined she would find a mate on earth and the fear of living the life she is running from in the form of a shifter and makes the biggest mistake, now 10 years later she regrets having done it because her feelings are the same as they were that day.
Tony Ramirez is a tiger shifter hat has been working at the FBU with Jane for the past 10 years and still can't understand how she can dismiss his charms. But he also can't understand why he always wants to be near her and why he has never been able to be with another woman, despite his reputation as a ladies man.
It is so entertaining to see the way Tony acts near his mate, the man is a boy with a crush and the little passion there is in this story is so hot, it will have you fanning yourself.
Plot: 3/5 Characterisation: 3/5 Prose: 3/5 How much I enjoyed it: 3/5 An overload of mashed up plot in this book. Its like trying to cram a space opera series into a book. It took a different direction from the first two books of the series.
Both Jane Donovan and shifter Tony Ramirez work for the Federal Paranormal Unit and Jane has lived a lie for the past 10 years as she has run from reality and the temptation that is Tony, but this year her holiday getaway is filled with more than relaxation as there is a dead man on her cabin's kitchen floor when she arrives there. Suddenly keeping Tony away is not so important. Tony has wanted Jane for the last ten years - she might not be his mate, but he can't ignore the attraction he feels towards her so when he gets a strong feeling that he needs to check on her as she is in danger he decides he needs to crash her vacation and take whatever punishment that leads to. But when he arrives at the cabin she is not there and no one knows where she can be. Working out who the man suddenly seems irrelevant when a small pink-haired child makes an appearance and she needs help. Unfortunately for Jane, the trouble with her small lie is that it will grow with time and the truth is likely to come to light before she is ready for it. So now they have a murder, a child, a mystery and their attraction to each other which is impossible to ignore. Can they get to the bottom of everything and work out their relationship and what the truth actually is?
I loved this story which had a great combination of a mystery, a lie, a very special child and love and devotion that was impossible to ignore. The way that the truth came out was typical of the way that secrets will come out eventually as they will not stay hidden forever. It was well written and very easy to read and understand. I could feel the frustration from Tony as well as the determination from Jane as she kept to her ideals and what she was striving to achieve. The ending was very unexpected and I now need to go and look to see if there is a new series that carries on with the story. Contains some sexual content.
This book is ridiculous and not in a good way. The first thing I found unrealistic was that right in the beginning after Tony and Jane are together for the first time she makes him forget about her and the fact that he equates her scent with that of his mate. So he doesn’t remember having sex with her. However - would not his sheets have smelt like her in the morning? And would not that scent have been the same as when he met her the next day? So even if he couldn’t remember her, or the fact that she was his mate, he still should have know she had been in his apartment.
The second thing I didn’t like were the aliens. I just felt that aliens didn’t not fit in with the universe the author had created with the first two books. And then the fact that the aliens could basically see the future and had been controlling everything for years? Stupid.
The relationship between Tony and Jane felt rushed and unrealistic. He doesn’t remember for 10 years and then boom! his memories are back and he’s in love.
Then there’s the fact that Jane didn’t want kids because she doesn’t want to be a domestic goddess. When Erica says that one day she plans on having kids and then eventually coming back to work Jane’s response is along the lines of “you can do that!?” The woman has been on Earth for 10 years and didn’t know you could go back to work after having kids? Was she living under a rock?
There were more things I didn’t like about this book, but I’m too lazy to write them all.
I do not recommend this book. Books 1 and 2 are ok though.

I was so excited about this one, especially after the prologue and first chapters, but then it took a confusing turn. For the first two books, this series was about the supernatural and shifters with a little murder-mystery thrown in. Then, the last book decides to swing into alien (as in from another planet) territory. The author tried to tie it all together by claiming that shifters were created by aliens and that's why they exist, but that line of thought doesn't really add up to me. Especially considering how Erica and Cyn aren't shifters but have other supernatural abilities. The explanation didn't include the women's powers, so it just doesn't gel. I feel like I was reading the beginnings of a different series.
I loved this series from Trent and Erica's store and I must say that this one did not disappoint. The suspense, drama edge of your seat, thrilling and page turning was epic, omg good. Tony, I can't say nothing bad about him, his thoughts and the things that comes out of his mouth just cracks you up, but when its time to become a take charge no nonsense guy, he is the one to have in your corner. Jane, it was refreshing to learn more about her past and powers, the chemistry between her and Tony was off the charts good. The story was so captivating I didn't want of to end.
It's a second book in the series, when I makes a choice regardless of H. Once again, I have to say, if its reverse, they will be so pissed about it. I'm a bit amazed that H in this series are so forgiving. And Jane's excuse may could work 10 years ago, but not some time later, when she knew better. That you can be more then pregnant and barefoot. And still at the present, she still is conflicted about it. Previous two books seems so simple compared to this one. Here is so much to take in. Honesty, I wasn't expecting this. It felt like its beginning, instead of the end. What I loved here, was 6 years old, pink haired perfection.
Read in the box set. At long last all my begging letters to Ms Taiden have paid off. Book 3 just rounds out the team we have come to know. I do not want to give anything away but if you have read both books in the FPU series you will be so surprised at Janes secret/power. What an amazing team they are. I agree with Tony that knowing everyone’s powers and abilities strengthens them. This book took us in a direction I would never have guessed and hopefully will be followed by more books as the ending implied. Now that it is all out in the open they can really go in a new direction with some of the new characters we meet in this book. Was it worth the wait. OH YES.
OMG!! I volunteered to review this book for the author. I love reading Milly Taiden books. She makes you feel like you have known each charterers your whole life. This is the third book in this series. It is Jane and Tony story. This is an amazing addition to this series. Jane and Tony relationship is complex and real. I must say that this one did not disappoint. The suspense, drama edge of your seat, thrilling and page turning was epic. I hope to see more from the FPU team. I can't wait to read more of your books. Keep up the awesome work! I HIGHLY recommend reading Milly Taiden stories.
This book was just full of surprises! I never would have guessed some of the things I learned in this one. So many twists! Jane and Tony have an undeniable connection that just can't be thwarted by anyone or anything and it was combustible! I loved the banter between these two. Not only do you have their story, but all the other couples are brought back to work on this case as well as some unexpected visitors. You have to read this one to find out all the secrets and see what happens!
Action, drama, love, love yet realized, crazy bad guys, intelligent bad guys, and SHIFTERS! So I've been reading Milly since PDA and fell in love with so many shifter couples I hadn't realized how much better it could get. Paranormal romances with depth that has me addicted to the story and character development that makes me interact emotionally and OMG plot twists! Definitely a top writer in the paranormal romance genre
Well it's taken 3 books but finally we get answers about how and why FPU came to be. This is also Tony and Jane's story. When I read the backstory of why she didn't want to be with Tony, I wanted to hit her upside the head. Really?? Had she looked around or done a Google search she would have realized it didn't have to be either or. Instead she made them both miserable for 10 years. If I were him, she'd have some serious groveling to do.
This story was awesome. And all the lead up within the last couple of books to Jane and Tony’s book was worth it. You learn so much in This book about Jane and her family and her powers and more about Brock and the formation of the unit. So many twists and turns. Lots of angst and suspense with just the right amount of steamy and sexual need. Loved this Tory and the whole plot that accompanies tony and janes get together.
Thriller about aliens and shape-shifters. The adventure was good but I skimmed the political stuff and the sex scenes. Proofreading was poor. I saw problems with spelling, word usage, sentence structure, and missing letters. Oh, and by the way, threatening to get a tiger wet is not an actual threat. They can and often do swim.
I absolutely love milly she just keeps me coming back for more. I read this first then listened to the audio book. Both were great I definitely reccomend any of her books. Jane and Tony were some of my favorites you get to see them interact through other characters it was great to read jane and Tony's story. Definitely a great quick read
Aliens, shifters, and cops...oh my! Milly Taiden knows how to grasp your attention from the first page to the last. Tony and Jane have a very hard time finding their HEA but with hard work it all works out in the end. I love this author's work because I never know where she will take me but I know I will enjoy the ride.
Knowing in the Back of your mind for 10 years that you love someone and never able to touch them. Tony had a heart of gold, with sexy body, funny personality that made your body put in over drive. Finally the truth comes out and he gets his love of a life time. Great story, caught myself laughing alot how funny he was.
I have thoroughly enjoyed these stories. I loved the first one. I still think it's still my favorite story. The 2nd and 3rd ones were very entertaining and good reads! It's sort of sad that there won't be any more of this series to wait for.
Oh my sweet Baby Jesus! Millie, your mind is amazing! The constant excitement, action, and intrigue in the stories in this series is ingenious. This is another wonderful must read book!
Strong characters excellent storyline teamwork. Makes us think what is happening to our world because of technological advancement. Are we comprehending or slitting our own throat
Love Milly’s mind! Simply amazing paranormal storylines. She makes you really believe and stay engaged from beginning to end. The comic relief of some of the characters helps too!
Great story! This series is one of my favs! If you like paranormal, go for this one!!! Kept it sexy and crazy just enough to keep me interested and wanting more!!!
I loved loved this series. I'm never disappointed with Ms. Taiden's books. Follow the last of the team members as they find there place in life and love.
I love Tony and Jane's book as well, at this point I couldn't pick a favorite. I did love seeing the whole team in action. Another awesome read Milly!!
