A blonde, a brunette, and a redhead walk into a bar…
After an embarrassing encounter with her roommate Nathan, Heidi Taylor is in major need of a drink and a place to hide. She calls in her two closest friends, Zoey and Meagan to help rescue her. After they meet at a bar and the liquid courage sets in, she comes up with an unusual plan in the form of a dare for each one of them.
Heidi fell in love with a man who’s off limits and she’s afraid to tell him how she really feels—until a bet is made and her friends challenge her to make a move. But Nathan De Costa makes it easy on her when he suggests she needs a little spice in her love life, and designates himself as her something spicy.
Jennifer Labelle resides in Canada with her husband and three beautiful children. After her third child she became a stay at home mom. In her busy household Jennifer likes to spend her down time engrossed in the stories that she creates. She is an active reader of romance (especially historical), mystery and anything paranormal. With an education in Addictions work she's decided to take a less stressful approach in life and hopes that you enjoy, as she shares some of her imagination with all of you.
When I found out Jennifer was writing this book I couldn't wait to read it. But I also knew that I had to go into this one with an open mind.
I've read three of her previous novels, Bittersweet, Broken Survivor, and Always, and I simply adored each of those stories. Heidi had a completely different kind of vibe to it than the three that I've read before. It was a short, funny, and definitely HOT read! And I definitely had to fan myself off a few times while reading this bad boy.
The reason I docked it a star, wasn't because I didn't enjoy the story, because I DID. It wasn't because it was poorly written, because it WASN'T. There's a scene (an extremely erotic scene) contained within this story that I don't usually read about, but that's just my personal preference. I know of MANY who people who do love to read this type of scene in their stories. I won't tell you what it is because I don't want to ruin anything for you when you decide to read this fantastic story.
In saying that, I still can't wait to read the following instalments to this series by this amazing author. Jennifer Labelle has a life long fan in me. ♥
BRIEF SUMMARY Heidi is looking for a roommate and finds, Nathan. The moment they've met, Heidi, is extremely attracted to Nathan and they've become best friends. For Nathan, though he finds himself attracted to Heidi, he's stayed away because of his sexual appetite, and naughty bedroom acts. Now, he is willing to spice it up with Heidi.
THOUGHTS This was a story about Heidi and Nathan exploring their friendship sexually. What Heidi thought about Nathan for the past three years has curbed her feelings for him. Nathan has always felt the same way, however, he has held back on his feelings because of his naughty acts and feelings in the bedroom. As they both explore each other, Nathan, has had some conflicting feelings that later made him seem like a jerk of the worst kind but later redeems his character. I did like the story and the way the author presented the characters. This novella would be for a reader who is sexually adventurous with the books they read and likes the way an author pushes them sexually. This book contains explicit sex with m/m/f.
Storyline: FAIR Intimacy: GOOD/ SPICY Enjoyment: GOOD
Spice It Up is the first book in the Spice It Up trilogy by Jennifer Labelle. Heidi has been in love with her roommate, Nathan, since she first laid eyes on him. However, Nathan is gay...or so Heidi believes. After Nathan convinces Heidi to spice up her love life a bit by visiting a new club, she learns his true feelings towards her and boy, do things really start to heat up! While Heidi and Nathan wade through their emotions as their friendship elevates to new territory for them both, neighbor and fellow hunk Rafe finds himself unwittingly"tied" to the couple.
I read this story in one sitting. The characters were so believable and the dialogue was on-point. Jennifer Labelle can write erotica! Her love scenes are very hot, very steamy, and very naughty! I have to admit that I was left a bit drop-jawed at the scenes involving Rafe and Nathan, but that's because I'm just now being introduced to male on male play in erotic novels. Definitely new territory for me. Yet it all together to create one sizzling story. I mean, I was actually crushing on Rafe by story's end.
I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this trilogy!
It is no secret what a fan I am of Jennifer Labelle’s work. In fact, in my mind I call her the Mistress of Emotions, as I know each time I begin reading on of her stories that I am in for an emotional ride. And, having started reading with her novel “Meant to Be” and moving into her Leather and Pleasure series, I have to say that with each books things just get spicier too. With “Spice It Up” Ms. Labelle created a unique set up and gave it the sexiest resolution yet. And it came with all the emotional twists and turns and bumps in the road that I expect from this author. There was a few moments that I went from feeling sorry for Nathan to thinking him a jerk and back again, and I appreciate the reality of emotions that this author brings to her works. They capture me, take me on a new roller coaster each time.
Recommend this story? It goes without saying! I’m always up for a new Labelle tale :)
Two friends discover their mutual love for each other and take it to a whole other level. But does it turn out to be a good thing? And what about when the neighbour gets involved? Full of emotion and hot, knock-your-socks-off love scenes, Spice It Up is a sure fire winner to get you all hot and bothered before bedtime! I loved the characters and recommend this book as a quick, steamy read. If I hadn't of been so tired that night, I would've read the entire thing in one shot! I think other readers will too.
The more I read of Jennifer's work. The more I like (and I enjoyed it from the start!)
She created a short and wonderful story of two great friends that take their relationship to a whole other level. I was really pissed off at Nathan for a few minutes. But he made up for his misbehavior in the best possible way. Oh and their neighbor Rafe added into the mix... Oh la la! A very hot menage that also has some VERY hot M/M action. A very drool worthy read indeed :)
Spicy doesn't even start to describe this book. It is hot, hot, hot! I love the way the menage played out and the part that Rafe plays, very skillfully done by Ms Labelle. The book was very short, and filled with lots of raunch fun. However I did feel the characters emotions were somewhat rushed in the short timeline. The story happens a little bit in a vacuum. I would have loved to see more of how Nathan and Heidi became friends and started to having feelings about each other.
It was a great read, lots of fun with quick pacing. Definitely worth the buy.
Roommates into lovers. Nathan does not want it to change anything but feels pressured and is cruel to Heidi when he thinks she wants more. She does let him know what he is missing but will not allow the relationship to go forward. He has to come to his senses and come back to her. Not a favorite of mine.
