Good friends? Al & Joy Jenkins and Frank & Helen Wilson fit the dictionary definition of good friends perfectly. Joy and Helen grew up together in Prairie Rose ND; the couples stood up for each other's weddings; the guys played Santa for each other's kids for many years; and their families still vacation together.
With so much history, they think they know each other well. But when the four friends turn fifty, secrets emerge. Helen thinks Frank is planning their long-awaited vacation. Wrong. Al and Joy can't believe they could have marriage problems; their biggest crisis is far behind them. Wrong. Frank thinks he's hot stuff. Wrong again.
Even Joy's first-graders know that without a compass, it's frightfully easy to get lost. When one of the four friends gets blown off-course, destructive decisions and devastating actions thrust all of them into the path of a dangerous storm.
Thank you for your continuing interest in my stories over the years. If you enjoy them, please continue to tell your friends. If you didn't find a particular book of interest or to your taste in reading, it's always wise to "do unto others" (including authors!) as you would like others to "do unto you." Best wishes for many happy hours of reading, ~ Hadley Hoover
I loved this book. I loved Helen, Al and Joy's characters and the friendship that they had. In this book we get to look at the foolishness of a middle aged man and the mind set of his more sensible wife.
Frank and Helen have been married for almost 30 years and are best friends with Al and Joy. Frank has just turned 50 and is having a midlife crisis, one that is tearing his family apart. Helen is at her wits end with Franks going-ons and gives him an ultimatum. Franks selfishness causes friends to take sides and causes a rift that may never be repairable.
