Capturing the Captain started out with a BANG! I was easily hooked into this read in the beginning because of all the action.

Abigail was kidnapped off of her father, Captain Clear’s pirate ship. This all took place while her father’s men fought the enemy who had just invaded them. The kidnapper has no idea she was a women as she was clearly dressed as a lad. She is then taken prisoner aboard Captain James Marrow ship who later on Abigail learns is her father’s enemy.

Captain James Morrow has been trying to get the treasure back from Captain Clear that he had stolen from him. Once he figures out that his prisoner is none other than Captain Clear’s daughter, he sets about to charm her into getting information about her father and where he hid the treasure.

My favorite character of this read was Abagail, she was a very smart and brave character. I loved how she would figure out ways to get what she wanted.

It was fun reading about these two falling for each other but it did take a while for them to finally trust each other. There was a lot of sexual chemistry but despite that the heat level was not very high. There were two heated scenes that did give it heat but one was only talked about after the fact.

Near the end, things got really exciting making it hard to put the book down. Then the ending came and for me it was a bit rushed leaving me wishing more would have been offered up.

I really enjoy reading about pirate’s, treasure and battles at sea and I got just that with Capturing the Captain.

5 "Aye, Aye, Captain" stars!
I found this book on Amazon and it was for free. The cover wasn't so attractive, but the plot made me wanna read it. And now I'm so happy I downloaded it!
Pirates, privateers, a "lady", treasures, an island, year 1720: the perfect book!
It was the first time I read a book about pirates and it was fantastic! I felt like watching a different version of Pirates of the Caribbean, but the "movie" was in my mind.
And I was so happy to read a book where no technology was present. It was such a relief to read about ships, swords, letters, parchments, coordinates, weeks on the sea. This book had so much action! It didn't let me get bored. I am so excited right now!
I feel like I should read more books about pirates! ❤️

**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for honest review.**

As you probably know if you follow my blog, I have mad love for anything written by C.K. Brooke. This one was no different!

Abigail is the daughter of a pirate and she's spent most of her life on her father's ship, learning the ways of the fugitives who sail the high seas in search of their next plunder. She isn't a delicate damsel, that's for sure.

But when Abi's ship is boarded by another, she finds herself taken captive and at the mercy of a new captain, one that doesn't think a woman's place is at sea and surrounded by scoundrels. Captain James Morrow does see a benefit of holding the daughter of the pirate captain. He plans to woo her until she shares information on where her father is holding a large pile of treasure.

Abi isn't one to be fooled, however. She devises her own scheme to seduce the captain and gain her freedom. And so the two set off intending to charm the other in order to get what they want. Along the way, the game somehow changes when Abigail and James realize their pretend affection might just be real.

Soon, Abi is caught between her loyalty to her father and the new love for her pirate captain. Unfortunately, the two men despise each other which puts a kink in Abi's plans.

I really enjoyed this book and the banter between James and Abigail was fun to witness. So was the budding romance that stemmed from the hot-and-cold relationship. The pacing was quick and filled with adventure, something I've come to expect from Brooke's stories. Abi's character was feisty and witty, yet still vulnerable enough to believe in the possibility of her happy ending.

In closing...
I hope there are more pirate stories to come in this series! Four suns!

Locked away in the belly of The Indomitable is no place for a woman…

Captain James Morrow is more than displeased to discover his sole captive to be none other than an untamable young lass who will earn him no bounty. Quick Reasons: well-crafted, gorgeously-written historical fiction; pirates! because who doesn't love pirates?; complex, intriguing, well-rounded characters; action and adventure; forbidden/star-crossed lovers; C.K. Brooke has captivated me once again

Huge thanks to C.K. Brooke, Limitless Publishing LLC, and YA Bound Book Tours for sending me a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review! This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this book.

If she succeeded in helping James get to the gold, might he merely take it back for himself, and all the story of his reform was only that--a story? If so, then Abi was playing right into his hands. Her head repeated her father's warnings, told her to beware of the man in whose arms she stood. But her heart didn't know how to let go. And didn't want to.

I would wax poetic about how much I adore C.K. Brooke and her mastery of the written word...but I feel like I do that every time I review a book from her, and you guys have GOT to have gotten the point by now, right? If you haven't picked up a book from this author, I just... WHY NOT?! Go do it. Seriously, she knows how to write characters, her plots are always complex and action-packed, and I swear you are bound to fall in love with everything she writes. I know I have, and continue to do so.

That being said--this book managed nothing less than I was expecting. When I first discovered this book tour, I was super excited. I mean, why wouldn't I be--there are pirates, and a love arc, and adventure, and... WHO could say no to all the awesome that this book's blurb promises? I certainly couldn't--and I wasn't disappointed in any way. Abi is exactly the sort of strong-willed, powerfully independent woman I was hoping for going into this read. Her interactions with and reactions to the rest of the characters that come gallivanting along were realistic and, at times, super entertaining. There were so many moments I found myself awing over her level-headed fierceness, and wishing I could be friends with her in the real world. Seriously, the girl is a tiger--I could learn a lot from her.

As always, the plot was engaging and action-packed. C.K. Brooke has a mastery over weaving complex, exciting adventures that will leave you on the edge of your seat, thirsting for more. She also knows how to write realistic, believable romances into the mix--and how to do so subtly, with a focus on relationship growth that not many authors think about while writing. I adore how easy C.K. Brooke makes reading her books seem--the pages fly by me seemingly without a breath, keeping me enthralled and pushing forward without realizing the passage of time. Seriously, once I dive into one of C.K. Brooke's novels, I lose track of everything--except what's happening in the book.

"I gave you no permission to free my captive."

"Was she your captive, Jim?" The first mate lowered his pipe, aging blue eyes seeing straight into his captain. "Or were you hers?"

As always, this was another adventure-packed, complex read from an author high on my favorites list. The characters are realistically-written and entertaining; the prose is authentic to the time period; and the journey is fast-paced and, at times, heart-wrenching. I definitely recommend this title to readers of pirates, historical fiction, and star-crossed lovers. C.K. Brooke wields her words like a pistol; perhaps you should take a bullet and let her set your reading world aflame.

2.5⭐ the golden middle ⭐
While this was nothing spectacular, it was quiet fun to read. And since I LOVE pirates at the moment and this was only 3 something bucks on kindle, I thought why not.
The book starts right away with some action and a battle between two ships, so yay! And I loved that about 99% of the story were set on a ship, also yay!
The story itself was pretty clishé. The main character is the daughter of a wanted pirate and gets captured by privateers. The captain of the privateers wants to use her to get to the pirate's treasure by trying to seduce her. And then falls for her himself. She starts out as quite head strong, but falls directly for the privateer and his little gestures. But I appreciate that she struggled with that quite a bit and ultimately found a way to both keep being loyal to her father and get the guy.
Turns out, our privateer captain isn't that aweful (I expected a macho womanizer kind of guy, which he wasn't). He didn't sleep around, he was always nice and sometimes pretty sweet to the main character (once he realised that she wouldn't betray her father). I've read about way worse guys, so this was refreshing.
I'm quiet sad that the action was only in the beginning and the rest of the story was just about Abi and James falling for each other. The ending was really anti-climactic too, it was really fluffy and convenient and nobody got hurt. Everybody was happy and got what they wanted. Yawn. (But since this book has only 280 pages or something, I don't know why I expected more to happen.)
Since I knew that this was a romance novel I expected a lot of sex scenes, which weren't there. All the sexy times don't even fill one page, so at least one good surprise.
The writing though was meh. The author tried to let the characters speak with this pirate-ish dialect which was okay most of the time, but really bad at one point or the other.

All in all, this book was okay for what it was and fun to read. Nothing more, nothing less.

This book had me at the series title and the year: 1720, during the Golden Age of Piracy; my favorite historical time period-PIRATES!

This was a super quick, easy read, finished in three days! The story line was simple: enemies become lovers. Yes, this is a romance book and that is the driving force for the plot. Even though, treasure, cannon battles, and sword fights can still be found.

I liked the little bit of religion Brooke added to the story line, since a lot of people don't think of pirates and religion in the same thought, but it was done; there are noted pirates who conducted scripture readings, on Sunday's.

Another neat take was the American pirate aspect, since usually it's the English pirates, like BlackBeard, Calico Jack Rackham, and Charles Vane, which are highlighted as roving the Caribbean waters.

I thought the character trait, in the female, Abigail, of not being able to write was a nice touch to the times and her upbringing, under her pirate Father. And it provided a nice twist to the plot.

In the beginning, the logistics of where the characters were at, in relation to each other, and the ships were a bit distracting. In the sense that people just appeared, without having shown us the action of that person approaching. And the ship warfare, though, believable according to movies, isn't plausible for actual pirate tactics, since stealth was a pirate's best defense and cannon and powder were expensive, used as a last resort, and were not wasted, especially if a fight could be avoided. I understand the lure to use such devices to amp up the tension, but it pulled me out of the story, until I was again redirected to the characters and how they acted in the scene.

The only question I have is, when is the next book coming out?!

Capturing The Captain has easily secured a spot on my list of favorite reads, not just for 2016, but EVER. A swoon-worthy romance with one of the most incredible, strong, and stubborn heroines ever, this book is a must read. James is a dashing (former) pirate, presented as the perfect combination of rugged and romantic. Abi is headstrong and anything but dainty. When the two collide, sparks fly and magic ignites! With a steady pace and tons of razor-sharp action, this is a page turner from the very start. I've never read anything from C.K. Brooke before, but I plan to seek out her earlier works. Her writing style is so fluid and natural while still maintaining a crisp edge of intellect, making it easy to lose yourself in the story. What an exciting, thrilling read!

This was a treasure of a story set on the high seas. It is about a dirty sea urchin discovering her femininity, beauty and womanly desires, when she is kidnapped off of her father's pirate ship and taken onto a privateer's vessel. After Captain James Morrow discovers that his captive, Abigail Clear, is a girl in lad's clothing, the chemistry between them sparks off and continues to build as each day passes. But, ultimately, Abi has to decide between the love of two men -- her father and the captor of her heart.

I loved this book, but I thought it was too short. I wanted MORE! I am definitely interested in reading the next book in this series.

Abigail Clear is the daughter of a notorious colonial pirate captain. After her mother died from smallpox, her father brought her aboard his pirate ship, where she has grown up. Her father has many enemies and one day one of them, boards the ship and grabs a hostage, not realizing that the the boy is actually a young woman, dressed in men's clothing. Captain James Morrow has come to retrieve the treasure that Captain Clear stole from him. While Abi and James dance around each other, he to find out where his treasure is hidden, she to escape, they find themselves caught together in a net they both have weaved. This was a very fun, enjoyable read.

Capturing the Captain is a fun read. The romance between Abi and Morrow develops nicely, and there's plenty of pirate/treasure hunt/battles at sea-style action, too. CK Brooke keeps the action moving, and the book flies by. I look forward to future installments of the American Pirate Romances series.

Aboard her father's ship Succubus, Abigail Clear, is captured by privateers looking for treasure. Aboard the Indomitable she is mistaken for a boy. Captain Morrow discovers that Abi is no boy and is the daughter of Captain Abner Clear who has Spanish treasure. After meeting with his officers he begins to question her, insults her, then apologises to her. Abigail Clear is a puzzle and he needs to find a way for her to switch loyalties to reveal her father and treasure location.

This is such a swashbuckling adventure filled with action intrigue drama, angst, and life aboard ship. The description of life aboard ship, of interaction and motivation of the captain and crew make this a compelling story to read. The story is well written and fast paced; told from dual POVs and reveals the thoughts feelings and emotions as they explore their relationship and navigate through the many obstacles that arise. There are many twists and turns ahead me matie's! There's an epilogue and a HEA

Abigail Clear is the daughter of a pirate captain. She has lived her life on the sea. As always, the ship is invaded and Abigail is taken as a prisoner. Captain James Morrow wants nothing more than to find the gold that was taken from him. He has plans on seducing Abigail to obtain this information. She plans on seducing him into letting her go. The 2 play this dangerous game. Soon feelings are questioned. Is it possible that love has bloomed or is this all part of a master plan?

An interesting read on pirates, romance, and missing treasures. I enjoyed reading the period piece. I have not read anything on pirates before (have only watched them in movies). It was entertaining with the right amount of romance.

Fun Pirate Romance

I'll admit that pirate romance fiction is not my go-to choice for romance, but this author put up a variety of subgenres of genre fiction at one of my favorite book review sites. I was curious to see how an author could juggle so many different types of fiction. I have to say that I really enjoyed this particular book. The tone, voice, and vibe conveyed remind me of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Abi’s a great heroine, strong and feisty. While I wasn't sure about the hero at first, he grew on me. I was impressed by the scope of knowledge that the author seems to have about piracy, privateering, and all the parts of a ship of these times. I found this to be a fun read.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Capturing the Captain is a fun pirate romance about a pirate captain’s daughter who gets captured by another ship. It’s a bit silly, but it’s a good, entertaining adventure.

Recommended for mature readers- contains sex scenes and sexual situations.

The narrator is a pretty good narrator, but she makes Abby sound particularly young and immature which makes the difference in ages in the romance a little harder to swallow, and while Captain James sounds masculine enough, his voice lacks sex appeal, but rather sounds a bit sleazy (to me).

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Very entertaining piece.
Yo Ho it is the pirate life for Abigail but wouldn’t you know she is taken captive and now is the prisoner of Captain James Morrow. But guess what gang the jokes on him because she will not increase his wealth. Trying to use his charms to have her change side I am not so sure he thought this one out after all he wants to capture her father. This one was very entertaining with some exciting action toward the end of the book. I just loved the characters and the author's writing style. I also have book two so I cannot wait to read that one next. An excellent book that I highly recommend I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Entertaining!
It always amuses me when the hero starts out to win the trust of the heroine (for whatever reason) and he gets trapped by his own plot by the innocent maiden.
This is exactly what happens in this lovely, amusing, well written and exciting story and I loved everything about it.
Anneliese Rennie does a good job with her narration and you can clearly tell each character from the voices she uses.
I listened to a promotional copy of the audiobook and my voluntary and unbiased review is above.T

I enjoyed the slow build and the writing of this novel. It's well-written and engaging and I was drawn in quickly and stayed with the plot of Abi's adventure/romance. The ending was a tiny bit abrupt, but overall the book was very good and I'd recommend it as a fun read and getaway from everyday life.

This novel was provided to me by NetGalley for free for an honest review.

There were many aspects of this novel that I liked. The narrative trips along at a good pace and the characterisation and setting are well described. I also liked the characters involved. But the plot and story line did not seem to have any real direction. It was not the gusty, pirate story I was expecting from the cover – I did not have the benefit of the category descriptions I subsequently saw on Amazon which described it as historical romance. It is well written and does deserve 3*. For me a stronger plot was needed to give it a higher rating, but those who enjoy love stories might give it more (as many of them have).

This was a good, solid read and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While I don't typically read pirate books (not because I dislike them, but because I just haven't seen enough of them), I recommend picking this one up and trying it out. The romance is light-hearted and sweet, so keep that in mind because I wasn't quite expecting that for a pirate romance.

It's my understanding that during this time period (and I could be wrong here), women on ships were not welcome and regarded with suspicion and derision. I was curious as to how the author was going to get around that pesky little tidbit given that the main character was a captain's daughter and lived on a ship. I was pleasantly surprised with her creative and sound explanation and how she addressed the hero's approach to dealing with the heroine.

The love story was slow to build and very sweet -- another surprise because these guys are pirates and you don't exactly expect sweet. I always thought of pirates as starring in more of the bodice-ripper type books from the 80s... you know, more of the pillaging types? Sweet's not very realistic and these pirates were a little too... fluffy and sensitive for my taste. Maybe they take sensitivity training classes?

Even so, the story was enjoyable because you were never quite sure how the main characters truly felt -- was it an act or did they truly feel for one another? Each character kept questioning the other throughout the book and it helped to build the anticipation of those wonderful romantic tingles. I'm a big fan of tingles.

My biggest complaint was the ending. It ended in a rush. Did the author just get bored and throw up her hands? I was disappointed that after all this build-up between the two main characters... we didn't get to actually see them reunite. It faded to freaking black and then we're slapped with a two page epilogue that hints at a HEA. What the freaking hell? I want tingles! Gimme my tingles.

I feel slightly cheated.

Aside from that, I'd still recommend this book. But I'm sending out this plea to the author -- please consider going back at some point and take a look at your ending. Seriously -- what's really good right now can be so much better if you just put a little more into the ending. Can we at least see them reunite? Something? Fading to black in such a pivotal moment is so... so... anticlimactic. I want a HEA... not a hint of a HEA.

Sheesh. Forget the wine. I need some rum.

( I received this book free in exchange for my honest review )

This was a fast pace, fun, sexy ride that I didn't want to end. Once I started reading I couldn't stop. I'm not big on these type of stories, they tend to turn into a weird harlequin rip off that just makes me want to gage. But this, wow just wow.

For starting off my reading for the new year, I'm glade I got to read this beauty. It put a new spin on a overused group and I'm so happy more authors are moving away from cookie cutter writing and letting their imaginations run wild.

The plot was on point, the writing had a very sensual tone that had my heart going and the sexy bits was done tastefully.

The only thing that I would have to say bother me, had nothing to do with the plot, or characters, but at the beginning when the food was being described. For one, you can not see salt once it's on a hot meal, so that was irking and the meat. It was said to be chewy, I don't know about you, but if me meat is chew then it wasn't cooked very good. You want that shit tender and melty.

In all I highly recommend this book, it will having you wanting more, more and more!!!!

Happy Reading
