This was fantastic. An essay giving a little insight into the process of finding story ideas and then an excerpt from said story. I immediately wanted to buy Leave Me but I resisted... purely a financial consideration. After reading the rest of the excerpts, I would be game to read any of them but to actually shell out money, maybe not right now. Will definitely be looking out for more of these types of books.
Adore samples and The Algonquin Reader Fall 2016 is an especially good one. Found titles I might have missed and enjoyed the essays by each selected author. 5/5
Thanks to Algonquin Books and NetGalley for this fun read. Opinions are mine.
A 50-page preview of five upcoming books from Algonquin. I won't summarize the books here, because the sampler's introduction does a fantastic job of introducing each novel. You can click on each book link for more information. What I loved most were the essays about each author's inspiration for their novel. It's really interesting to read about their creative process and it made me feel even more invested in their stories.
Each one of these novels has a first chapter that grabbed me and made me wish I could continue turning the pages! I finished this sampler excited about each one of these emotionally gripping novels.
Thanks to by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill and Netgalley for a free copy of this sampler in exchange for an honest review.
I deeply appreciate the work of Algonquin Press in finding quality stories to share with readers. I have many literary interests and among them in the Appalachian literature genre. Writers like Silas House, Lee Smith, and Robert Morgan speak in a language that reaches into my roots.
What stood out most in this anthology of brief previews was the work of Susan Rivers, an author I will be visiting again soon. A recommended appetizer for a literary feast.
