War is coming. The huge Blue Dragon Army is poised to invade the Red Dragon Kingdom, and has enough dragons to defeat them. If they win their purpose is to wipe out the entire nation and turn the map blue. The Red Dragon Military Council has reluctantly permitted John to seek an alliance with the Brown Dragons, a race they neither know nor trust. John, accompanied by Crystal and her friends, must travel far to the south, sneaking past unfriendly nations till they reach the land of the Golden Dragons, in the hope that they will not only facilitate the alliance with the Browns, but join in the fight and help them win the war.
How is war started and why is war started? That question is answered in this story. As we read in the first book, Becoming a Dragon, by Andy Holland, John, a Golden Dragon, comes to Furnace, a Red city to go to school but really to inform Crystal that she is a golden Dragon, not a Red dragon. John discovers treachery and is able to convince the Goldens that they must enlist the help of the Brown dragons or they will lose the war. The Blue dragons are the ones starting the war and we learn about spies, how they amassed such a large army and what they intend to do. The author, Andy Holland, has given us plots and options and thrown in a few "if and ands". There is a lot of action, enough for both male and female to really enjoy this fast paced story.
I ordered the wrong "War of Dragons" but I am kind of happy that I did since that was a pleasant read and even though I had not read the first one, I fully understood the world, the plot, character dynamics, etc. relatively quickly. The author had done a good job :) The book could have benefitted from some more editing but that's a minor point.
