Here's an Alabama hometown high school romance.
Ronnie is more than just the football coach's daughter, and Gibson is more than just a rock star's son, and they are the only two people who seem to see that in each other. I love how he gives her a feeling of being wanted that her family never provided, and she helps him discover what he really desires most out of life. So sweet.
Ronnie, the heroine, is the ultimate country girl! Down to earth, pretty, and rules in beer pong. I like her!
I really loved the references to Deamon from JLA's Lux series, and how Gibson pokes Ronnie in the back with a pen when he's sitting behind her in class...just like Daemon did to Katy!
It was cute when suave, bad-boy ladies-man Gibson gets awkward as he asks Ronnie out on their first date. Loved that it was both their first real date!
I Love, Allen!! He's the comic relief = "My homie Katy was wrong. I kissed a girl, and I sure as hell didn’t like it!” And he has awesome taste in hot guys. #FellowJensenAcklesLoverHere! Shout out!
River's awesome too. Maybe I'm just a lover of best friends!
Rodger is a douche. Period.
I want to learn more about Sean. He's the overprotective twin brother (but a good brother) except he's possibly a cheater (though, eek, I hope that story is not as it seems). I definitely want to know more about him with Anna. That's why I was happy to see book three is his!! #Yay
Since Gibson was so famous, I was certain some media people would flag him down to the small town he was staying in all on their own, especially since it was no secret to everyone there who he was and that he was sent there in place of going to jail. Some fellow student HAD to have mentioned it on some social media place that he was attending their school and spread it around. But I guess that story would've been totally different if it had leaked sooner.
At the beginning, I could tell it was a debut book. I think editors have ruined me, making me notice things about writing that I probably never would've noticed before they got hold of my head! But as the story progressed, and things started rolling (like the secret relationship!! Sorry, I'm a sucker for secret relationship!! Adore them!), the writing improved, and I got way more into the story.
Overall, good, happy tale with a good happy ending! Thumbs up! :)

I've been absolutely enamored with this book since the moment I stuck my nose into it. A Fresh Start is the debut novel from author Lexi Bissen. As part of her Second Chance Boys series, it is more of a young adult romance, than a new adult, but you do get a new adult feel in it. (As in, it reads more mature, but is more focused on plot than any hanky panky going on between the characters.)
Exceptionally well written from an alternative first person point-of-view, it can be read as a standalone but there will be other books to follow in the series. There were actually a few moments while reading this book that I full on giggledsnorted out loud. Yes, gigglesnorted. It does have an HEA, and no cliffy.
Ronnie and Gibson stole my heart. Ronnie is a girl growing up in a small town, trying to find herself. She's trying to stand up for what she wants and figure out how to go about getting it, without hurting or alienating her family... whose whole life is football. Gibson on the other hand, is a guy trying to find a second chance. He's working at a new life for himself, sort of a self renaissance. An enlightening and growing period for himself. He never expected Ronnie to waltz into his life.
I cannot even stress enough how well developed these two characters are. You get their depth of emotion, and understand their feelings as they work through them. If nothing else, this is a novel about growing up, changing, and learning to embrace your true self.
Aside from the main characters, you have some fabulous co-characters in here. Allen is one you'll be enamored with from the start, and probably burst out laughing at. I will never hear a Katy Perry song the same again. Ever.
The author also does a fabulous job of leading you into the next books. It's almost seamless how she weaves in just enough to have you curious about the other characters and their stories. I won't tell you more about that bit, but I can promise that if you read A Fresh Start, you will want to know. I have a list of at least three of the co-characters that I'm dying to know how things turn out for them too.
Ms. Bissen couldn't have written a better debut novel for herself. A full five stars from me, and I'm excited to see what else she comes out with!

Hollywood Bad Boy meets Small Town Good Girl…we’ve read this story before but not quite like this.
Gibson Mitchell’s never had anyone truly care about him except his best friend and his best friend’s mom. His father’s a rock star with no time for him and his mother’s a druggie that’s more interested in her next high than she is in her son. With parents like these it’s no wonder Gibson likes to live on the wild side. His shenanigans have put him on the cover of every gossip rag you can imagine. When his latest stunt ends him in serious hot water he’s shipped off to live with an uncle he never knew he had in a town where the only exciting thing is football. This change of scenery could be just what he needs. A fresh start, time away from the limelight and fast pace life of Hollywood; a chance to prove to himself that he’s more than just the son of a rock star who’s simply famous for being famous. It’s here where Gibson is able to hide from the prying eyes of the paparazzi and where he meets Ronnie Hamilton. Ronnie’s nothing like the girls Gibson is used to or the other girls in her town. She’s more chucks than stilettos, shorts than short skirts, t-shirts than cleavage revealing tank tops.
Ronnie Hamilton wants out of this small town like now. She can’t wait for graduation day so she can high tail it out of town. First she has to convince her parents that she deserves more out of life than living in the shadow of her football coach father, football playing brothers and queen of the town’s committees mother. She deserves more than the local community college and a full time job at the local Chilies. When the new kid who is rumored to be famous and sports tattoos and piercing and his hotter than anyone should be allowed to be, comes to town Ronnie isn’t the least bit interested. She doesn’t have time for rich and entitled jerks. When Ronnie is paired with Gibson on a project she learns that there is more to Gibson Mitchell than meet the eye. The real Gibson is about as far from his Hollywood persona as she is.
I’m not a fan of the young adult genre, the “seniors in high school ready to take on the world” storylines, but I will read them when sent my way. I normally find them okay and very rarely do I find myself wanting more as I read them; this book was one of those few gems. I really enjoyed this story.
From the moment you started to get to know Gibson, the vulnerability was there. His desire for the attention from his parents was there. His hurt and not being a priority was there. When he realizes that he not only likes Ronnie but he also has really strong feelings for her, he lets it be known. I loved that Ronnie’s life wasn’t perfect and that she struggled with her own family issues. I loved that she while she wasn’t a damsel in distress she also wasn’t hard. I really loved the common thread between the two. Although Ronnie’s parents were physically present, they neglected her in their own way.
Of course there is the whole young love thing that makes it hard for me to want to read books with character of this age group. The whole, “I’ve found the love of my life. We are going to go to college, graduate, get married and live HEA.” I know, I know…that’s what HEA romance is all about, but I still have a hard time with it. Truth be told that really didn’t bother me in this book. It was written in a way where yeah, I kind of wanted it to work out that way for them. I also enjoyed the supporting characters. Absolutely loved the bestie Allen. Even though he was a bit of a jerk I like her brother Sean and I’m curious about his story. I’m curious about Gibson’s bestie, River as well. Now I know this is all about young adults but my curiosity is a little piqued at Gibson’s uncle Dan. What’s his story; maybe a little novella about him (hint-hint)? So this is book one in the Second Chance Boys Series, hopefully some of my curiosity will be satisfied because I most definitely plan on reading the rest of the series.

I was instantly in this book. Felt like I was sitting at the table, getting a front row seat, Lexi definitely lets you feel every emotion felt by these characters. The characters are only in high school yet you don't see a lot of immaturity. The story line: believable and could so happen.
So we are taken to a little town in Alabama where football is God and if you are not into that why are you there. We have Ronnie, senior, writer, great student, trying to find her nitch in a house full that resolves around football. Her best friend is gay and very funny, I was belly laughing at his mouth.
Gibson is a misunderstood rock star's kid who took a wrong turn and ended up being given a choice: Jail or Uncle Dan's house. Gibson finds himself in backwoods country just trying to get through his time before he can go back home. Of course rumors and stories are flying about him, gossip magazines are writing what they believe is the truth and he has a school of kids that have known each other since birth following his every move.
Ronnie friends Gibson one the first day and the friendship is deep. I loved that Lexi gave us a 400 page novel and showcased all these emotions that are running through teenagers. They share with each other what they fear to share with their families. They share their dreams, future, and what they want to accomplish. I was instantly taken back to the first love in high school when you thought you had it all figured out.
Gibson makes a bone head mistake that I was freaking about!! Like seriously my heart was pounding racing through the words trying to figure out if Ms. Bissen was going to leave us with a cliffhanger or if she was going to be able to wrap it up and give up a happy ending.
At this point from Ronnies POV I was feeling like I was right there witnessing it::
“This,” I point between us, “whatever it is we’re doing. What you said to my brother was true, even if you were saying it for his benefit. What does a guy like you want with a girl like me? You’ve been with girls far more beautiful and I’m sure more interesting. It’s just like you said, you’d be downgrading.”
I loved these two together, I love the epilogue which wasn't too far ahead since the book ended in their senior year. I am hoping we get another one from Lexi soon and I am keeping my fingers crossed it is Sean's story. Ronnie's brother was nice, mean, grumpy, and sensitive all within the same book, this mysterious teenager needs a story!!!

First, it’s been a while since I read a book with teens in High School and I was a little worried it was going to be immature but was thrilled that it wasn’t at all .
We meet Ronnie Hamiltion , sister to Jerry and twin of Sean . Being as she is the only girl in the family she has very protective brothers . Being that her father is also the head coach of the high school football team , her family is all about sports but Ronnie couldn’t care less about all of it .
Ronnie has plan for herself that don’t include there small town in Bama but she is too afraid to tell her parents for fear they won’t like what she has to say . Her best friend Allen who is more like a best girlfriend is trying to find his own identity but being gay in Bama , there are not many that accept him.
“All right, fine. It was more than that. I felt like I really had a connection with him, if that makes any sense.” – Ronnie
Gibson Mitchell is the new kid , but he is more than that your normal new kid in school as he’s also a bit of a celebrity because his dad is a famous guy in a band . This means Gibson is famous by proxy. He’s done some questionable things that have landed him in Bama as he has been court ordered to finish high school in small town Bama where his uncle lives .
He was planning on keeping his head down and doing his 7 months , then he would be free and able to do what he wants . He wasn’t counting on Ronnie though or what she would bring to his life .
“He told me to wait for the girl who stops me in my tracks.” – Gibson
It’s not as easy as boy meets girl , her parents don’t want Ronnie to hang out with the new kid because he is deemed “ the bad boy .” Only they have such a pull toward each other and understanding even , they get each other and the untrusted and unwanted feeling they both struggle with . Gibson encourages her to tell her parents her plans for the future and she in turn encourages him to have a future . Inevitably something happens and they become more than friends and they have to figure out what that means.

An amazing start for a brand new author. I loved the dynamic between Gibson and Ronnie. I thought that the story was well written and super cute. I am hoping for an Allen book! I need me a totally awesome gay friend like him to follow me around speaking his mind! Great job Lexi! I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Ahhh, Ronnie and Gibson....I really loved their story. Would of liked a better epilogue to see them off at college but I'm guessing we'll get to see more of them in future books.

Clean Slate
I won this beautiful book in a giveaway.
I think we all wish that at some point in our lives we could start over again,
I know I have.
This book was brilliantly written. Severely cute and very much a high school sweet heart romance.
The two main characters weren't what most would say a conventional match. But most great relationship are with the unorthodox pairs.
The best friend in this story is very funny, the lack of finesse in their approach to situations is very comical.

This book was brilliantly written. Severely cute and very much a high school sweet heart romance.
The two main characters weren't what most would say a conventional match. But most great relationship are with the unorthodox pairs.

First it’s been a while since I read a book with teens in High School; I was a little worried it was going to be immature. It wasn’t at all.
We meet Ronnie Hamiltion, sister to Jerry and twin of Sean. Being the only girl sibling she has very protective brothers. Being that her father is also the head coach of the high school football team, her family is all about sports and Ronnie could care less about all of it.
Ronnie has plan for herself that don’t include there small town in Bama. She is too afraid to tell her parents for fear they won’t like what she has to say. Her best friend Allen is more like a best girlfriend he is trying to find his identity but being gay in Bama, not many accept him.
“All right, fine. It was more than that. I felt like I really had a connection with him, if that makes any sense.” – Ronnie
Gibson Mitchell is the new kid, but he is more than that, he is a bit of a celebrity because his dad is some famous guy in a band. This means Gibson is famous by proxy. He’s done something questionable things and has been court ordered to finish high school in small town Bama where his uncle lives.
He was planning on keeping his head down and doing his 7 months, then he would be free and able to do what he wants. He wasn’t counting on Ronnie though or what she would bring to his life.

It’s not as easy as boy meets girl, her parents don’t want Ronnie to hang out with the new kid because he is deemed “the bad boy.”
Only they have such a pull toward each other and understanding even, they get the un trusted and unwanted feeling they both struggle with. He encourages her to tell her parents her plans for the future. She encourages him to have a future.
And things somethings happen and they become more than friends.

I've never read any of Lexi's books before, but I'll pick her up from now on.
A Fresh Start is a cute story full of real life YA drama. A new, mysterious guy in school from out of town, sparking immediately with the local girl. I do like a little bit more spicier description with my writing but the overall writing was good enough to counter that.
Its a refreshing little story and I look forward to more from Lexi. I believe she'll grow as a writer and I can't wait to read another one. :)

Being the son of a famous rock star Gibson lives he's life in the fast lane, parties, drugs, women and getting into trouble are all his ever known. From the moment these two meet theres an intense attraction between them, but with everyone warning her Gibson is no good for her and Gibsons colourful past will these two have a chance at being together?

Overall a great debut book and i'd love to see more from this series especially from Sean and Allen too!

Wow just WOW! This was an amazing book! I could not put it down. There were so many different feels and really helps people connect to the characters.
Ronnie Hamilton is a small town country girl. She has a dream for her future but is afraid to go after it because she does not know how her parents will react to her news of being accepted to University of Northern Florida with a full ride scholarship. She knows she has to tell her family soon since she is now a senior. On the first day of school she learns there will be a new student and they are kind of a celebrity. Once they meet her entire life is changed for the better. She has to overcome so much and she does with the support of the friends in her life.
Gibson Mitchell has had a rough life. He has an absent rock star dad and a drugged out mom. He ends up on a bad path and makes a mistake that can either change his entire life or send him to jail. He chooses to change his life. He knows it will be difficult and plans to stay in BFE long enough to "serve his sentence" and then leave. He never planned to make friends or realize he truly does want to change his life. Even with the many difficulties he has to overcome he is determined to make it happen.
Will these two reach there goals or will all go up in flames.

Very promising new author!!
Plot?
Your typical High school romance. Rockstar son and High school football trainer’s daughter. She has a great BF, an overprotective big brother and falls head over heels even though she doesn't want to.
I absolutely adored that we don’t have any violence sh*t in there. Finally a guy who can reign in his temper. Thanks! :D
Characters
Liked the characters. Ronnie's a girl who seems determined, super cool and totally into books. Thing about her is she has her insecurities, doesn't really know how to tell her parents what she plans to do after high school. I
I didn’t like that Ronnie was so insecure and always had to dobut herself when it comes to her appearance, though… She’s 18 for god’s sake not 16.
Loved Gibson. A guy who was on the wrong side of the tracks but really tries to turn everything around. What I found disappointing was that there is no talk about his drug history. Even if he did not take any 'hard drugs', it should have been dealt with.
Writing style?
Quite a lot of mistakes… what makes this especially bad is that the lovely … wants to edit books later on.
Anyways, I liked the writing style. It just flowed and there were quite a few instances that made me laugh and smile.
Btw, you don't like cheesy scenes? Don't read this one :D

I really enjoyed this super cute romance!
Ronnie is the daughter of the high school football coach and twin sister of the teams quarterback. Their family is pretty much town royalty but Ronnie hasn’t let that go to her head, she’s a down to earth country girl. Gibson is the son of a rock star and he’s gotten himself into a ton of trouble resulting in him having to move to in with his uncle in a super tiny town. Gibson decides from day one at his new school that things are going to be different but when he first lays eyes on Ronnie he can’t help but want her. Gibson wants to do things differently with Ronnie then all the girls he’s had in his past so he works up the courage to ask on her on a real date. The problem is Ronnie’s twin brother and his best friend hate Gibson on sight and continuously warn Ronnie against being near him.
I think my favorite part of this book was Allen, Ronnie’s best friend, he’s absolutely hilarious. The plotline is great and this story is definitely fast paced, I couldn’t put it down once I’d started reading. I didn’t even realize this was a debut novel for the author, I look forward to seeing more from Lexi Bissen!

I absolutely loved this book! Ronnie is a down home southern girl. Growing up being the only girl, all she has ever known is sports. But she wants to leave the small town life and go to University of Florida to become a editor. There is just one thing..she hasn't told her family.

An amazing Debut! I just fell in love with this book!
It was just so sweet but not with over the top syrup! I love that there was no billionaire or virgins. Just some good old teenage angst. This was just what was need for a brain cleanse, a refresh for an exhausted blogger. Lexi's future is looking pretty great! The writing was wonderful. I loved Ronnie! The sweet southern girl with a whole lot of sass! And Allen, I really enjoyed the best friend. This is a perfect representation of not judging a book by it's cover! Never judge by what's on the surface because you may miss out on the love of your life!

A Fresh Start was a YA contemporary romance. The main theme in this story was never judge a book by its cover. I loved how Ronnie got to know Gibson and did judge him like everyone else. The romance between them was really sweet and it felt more mature that a high school romance which I really loved. The secondary character Allen added so much to this story. At time he had me laughing so much. We get dual points of view in this novel in addition to well-developed character and an HEA ending. I hope we get to see more of these character in college in future books. This was a great read.

4 VERY STRONG STARS For Lexi's debut novel! I was pleasantly surprised on how good this book was. It was sweet, funny, and at times it made me MAD and I wanted to knock some sense into these teenagers - which is a good thing, because it had all kinds of feels to it.
