New heroes emerge from the smoldering ashes of humanity... But so do new threats.
A man-made plague has ravaged humanity, the military is in shambles, and chaos reigns over the world. Hope seems nothing more than a dream.
Captain Dominic Holland is determined to stop the inevitable. His daughters are finally safe, and his crew has found new ways to combat the Skulls. He leads the Hunters on a mission to recover vital research that may hold the key to stopping the biological agent responsible for this apocalyptic new world.
But unexpected new dangers threaten the Hunters' efforts. They must adapt and face these challenges with everything they have. After all, it's no longer just their lives on the line. The future of the human race relies on their success.
Can the Hunters salvage what remains of humanity? Or is it already too late?
Anthony J Melchiorri is a scientist with a PhD in bioengineering. Originally from the Midwest, he now lives in Texas. By day, he develops cellular therapies and 3D-printable artificial organs. By night, he writes apocalyptic, medical, and science-fiction thrillers that blend real-world research with other-worldly possibility. When he isn't in the lab or at the keyboard, he spends his time running, reading, hiking, and traveling in search of new story ideas.
With his daughters safely tucked away on his boat with his scientists, Dominic, Meredith and the team go in search for information that will help them fight the Skulls.
While searching a hospital, they find a few survivors and take them back to The Huntress.
Are any of the survivors infected? Will anybody pose a threat? Will they retrieve information that will help fight the Skulls?
The whole series is slightly better than an average zombie apocalypse story. Unfortunately it doesn't have this spark of brilliance that would make it exceptional and worthy of 5 stars.
Salvage is the third book in the Tide series by Anthony Melchiorri. Salvage presents our heroes with new challenges of bigger and badder skulls and danger from every angle. I can genuinely say that I really enjoyed reading this installment of the Tide series. I found that this book had better flow and a more enjoable storyline than the last book. The pacing was well done and I really felt a connection with the characters in this book.
I had a great time reading this and look forward to readin the next book in the series.
The Tide horror thrillers are fantastic! The action is non-stop! I am constantly holding my breath as I read. I feel like I am inside the book! The thrill is real!
Loved this series, and I can't WAIT for the next installment. I spent the better part of a week finishing all three books in this series, and I must say: I'm not disappointed in the least. In fact, 2 months later, I still can't wait to find out what happens next. Very entertaining; a captivating story that's well worth your time. If you like the Extinction Cycle series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith, you'll love this series as well! (And if you haven't read that series, I also recommend!) I read quite a bit in this realm of storytelling, and love the books that make me emotionally invested in the characters. This is one of those series' that tells a great story while developing the characters in a gradual way that allows the reader to bond with them individually. It has a great balance of action, with just enough mystery that makes you want more!
Things are getting so much worse for the Hunters. The Skulls are changing, creating more nerve-wracking situations and a need for different ways to kill them. I love the descriptiveness, the intense action, and the nerve jangling feeling that the human element may be the biggest threat. A wonderfully exciting series that never has a boring moment. *This was an ARC, my opinions are my own.*
There are indeed things in this world worse than flesh-eating monsters! This book is the 3rd in Melchiorri's "The Tide" series and it hit the ground running! Dom and his team discover an SOS on top of Boston Mass Gen Hospital and realize that there may be survivors that can help research and/or find an ONI agent cure/vaccine. To add to that, this particular hospital also houses research and samples necessary to further the research Dom's people have already discovered. The Hunters were successful in liberating several survivors, including a researcher (unbeknownst to them) and although the separate groups came close to being overrun on multiple occasions, the author did not take another beloved character away from us. The Droolers and Goliaths play a more prominent role in this book and Dom and his team even end up using the Droolers against other Skulls and Goliaths, which was incredibly satisfying.
While The Hunters are still deeply ensconced in the hospital mission, Fort Detrick is attacked and nearly overrun because of a betrayal recognized much too late to do anything about it. While Shepherd is whisked off at gunpoint to an unknown location, a similar situation is unfolding on the island of Kent, where Dom has been sending all survivors, including those from the Naval Academy. Dom isn't aware of all of this and accepts a mission from General Kinsey as a show of good faith and a hope to secure a facility to mass produce a cure/vaccine once one was found. Unfortunately, the mission was a setup to split up Dom's team and an attempt to try and get their hands on Meredith Webb!
The two Hunter teams barely survive the ordeal inside the NIH/VPPL, but manage to reconnect. They realized that the entire mission was a setup, but it is too late for the Huntress, as she is boarded but US Military. All communications have been cut off so Dom has no idea how his crew is faring, but at least someone had the foresight to get his daughters off the ship. No Dom just has to fight his way through Skull-infested Washington to get to them and then figure out a way to get his ship back!
This has been the most engrossing book of the series so far, as The Hunters seemed to plunge from one seemingly disastrous mission to the next! However, Dom and his Hunters proved once again how resourceful and determined they are to survive. They are tired and dirty and scared and worried about their friends, but they won't slow down until they have made it through Washington and have take back their ship!
Still having a bit of trouble keeping all of the characters straight...some more than others, but they are all growing on me. Andris is quickly becoming a favorite...and I can completely sympathize with Navid. I have a feeling he will play a bigger part in the upcoming books. I was angered at the situation the author created with the military, but not because of how it played out...because Dom refused to listen! I know what Dom was trying to do and it was indeed noble, but he has to remember that a lot of people depend on him to take care of them...and they should come first. He is too trusting and a bit too noble for this new world. I hope to see him a bit more hardened (but not so much that he doesn't want to help survivors anymore) in the upcoming books.

5 stars. I can't even quibble a half-star away from this one as "Salvage" is easily the best book of the series so far and one of the better books I've read this year(s). Though not a one-sitting length novel I did indeed read it in one sitting as the action is non-stop, adrenaline-fueled and full-throttled amazing. That one 'scene' in the bio-production lab will go do as one of my all-time favorite action sequences of any genre. It was that good.
Melchiorri really ramps things up in this third installment and its not just because of the action. Bringing in 'new' villains - or at least making us very aware of same - has upped the ante significantly. As with his compatriot NS.Smith, knowing that the bad guys are just a step (or well-placed gunshot) away makes the tension that much more special. And the variants (oops, sorry "Extinction Cycle" fans) of his Skulls that are now popping up are just as cool as they can be. Mutated sh*t is hittin' the fan y'all so brace yourselves!
This is fun. This is wild. Read these books. Aloha.
The Oni Agent outbreak continues its rise to devastating levels across the globe. The infected, now called “Skulls” are evolving. The horn or scale-like protrusions on their bodies are growing, covering more of their body and becoming thicker, like armor. There also is a king-size version of the Skulls, called “Goliaths”; bigger, meaner, and more dangerous in every way. Another evolved version spits acid; they call these “Droolers”. Add to this the political climate is turning against Holland & crew as well. There are facets of government that definitely have conflicting visions of how things should be run (what’s new?). It is becoming evident that finding an antidote is taking second place to staying alive. Captain Holland & crew certainly have their work cut out for themselves and have difficulty determining who to trust. There seems to be more action and excitement in this third book than the first two combined.
I rate this 3 stars and yet I have spent 2 credits to try and finish this series. The over use of certain words in this series just agitate me. I can't say that I have connected with any of the characters. Well that's not 100% true either, Miguel is my absolute favorite. The narrator does an exceptional job and I will be looking for more of his work. There is something about this series that keeps me coming back for more. It's taking a lot of will power not to use my last few credits to finish this series.
This is the third book in The Tide series. I'm continuing to enjoy the series because of the level of detail put into each battle scene. It could be argued that the plot is on a bit of a slow role, however, I find that this doesn't bother me in the least due to the amazing battle scenes.
The core of this third book is the search for medical supplies and a new human based thread which has emerged.
Anthony Melchiorri has delivered yet again. Book two was an astonishingly fast paced thrill ride and now book three has not only continued the pulse pounding excitement but even manages to outdo the second book, adding in the extra new dimension of a second front. Not just the skulls but the forces behind the outbreak. I have already purchased the next book in the series and can't wait to get started.
Three books in and the formula has gotten a bit stale for my taste. Combined with what may be the least surprising twist of all time , I think I might be done with this series. Honestly, the only thing I am curious about is which 'Left 4 Dead' special infected gets copied next.
Definitely the best of the first three books in the series. The author, Anthony J Melchiorri is definitely trying to change things up in this third installment. He is toying with different traits for the "Skulls" with powers ranging between, super strong/large to spitting acid. I felt more suspense and twist than the first two put together. This may go sideways for me, but I'm definitely on for the fourth book in this series
I love Anthony's world. The Hunters are a tight knit group. Now in the apocalypse, they have become family. The action, the suspense, mixed with some treason and hide & go seek, makes a book you will not put down until you are done reading it! Anthony throws a curve ball, so you will definitely want book #4 Deadrise! I'm driving in now!!!
I love this series. This is the 4\5 time I've read books 1-3 as I have re-read them with each new book release. Every time I read them, they're even better. (Probably because each new book provides more information which explains nuances I'd previously only wondered about). Can't wait to get to the latest new one, book 6!
Third book in the series, and it isn't losing momentum. Monsters aren't exactly zombies, but have some of that feel to them, science used is just enough to give it the 'this is possible' feel, without being too heavy. Well-paced, fun to read, and I'm looking forward to book four.
We know Mr Melchiorri can write a great battle scene but a great battle should have a purpose. It should advance the story. In this series we have our valiant little band of heroes fighting overwhelming numbers of maniacal maneating monsters over and over and over and over. Please, get on with the story. Deadman's War is a much better series.
Too many bad and stupid decisions. Lots of lousy shooting for supposedly amazing shooters/fighters/whatever they are. I feel like they should be way smarter than they are, so I'm often surprised by how surprised they get when shit hits the fan once they've chosen to do something stupid.
Dom and the crew are back and better than ever. Every book in the series builds on the previous, more action, more danger, more questions.... Reading this book left me anxiously awaiting for the next.
The Tide Series grows and gets better with each book. Dom and the Hunters have a new enemy to contend with besides the Skulls. Onto book 4 to see what is going to happen next.
Contiineuing Dom's fight against the skulls but now he finds himself the target of the CIA and the U.S. Military. Kept my attention and still find the storyline fun and intrigeuing.
This was the longest 37.5 hours in my life!I couldnpt decide if I wanted to keep listening or not. When I purchased it I was expecting a more sea based zombie invasion.I liked some parts but was just neutral about most. Ryan Kennard Burke was a fine narrator.
Y'all want just to much information on what I think. But since I'm here I'll let you know that I wouldn't be writing this if I didn't want to get to the next book...
Though it was limited on tropes, a lot of the plot was still very predictable. The charcter work has improved. There are some very beautifully done segments in this third novel. Full review coming eventually.
Dom continues to fight to protect his family and the other hunters against the skulls. We are introduced to some interesting mutations. Unlike most books they explain why these mutations exist. I couldn't start the next book fast enough! Such and amazing book and series!!!!!!!

Giant plot twists in this book as betrayal shocks the crew of the Huntress. New characters are introduced and romance takes a peek at the apocalypse. Nonstop, gory, military and CIA try each other and the kids get jobs. Next volume please!
The third book in this series hits all the marks. Fast paced, action heavy, and in-depth character development that makes the story all the more compelling. Now getting into the meat of the story, the machinations are really starting to come into play, and Melchiorri handles this with a deft brush.
