Find out how it all began for Peter and Christian.
Before Toby met Damon, Peter and Christian found each other on the internet.
Still in the army, Christian was inexperienced in not only BDSM, but sex altogether. Still, he has yearnings and furtively explores them in online chatrooms.
Luckily for Christian, seasoned Dom Peter recognizes Christian’s lack of experience and a kindred spirit in the man, and they take their conversations to text messages and Skype calls.
After Christian’s last deployment and only a few months before his discharge, he takes leave and visits Peter so the two men can see if they are as compatible in person as they seem to be online.
This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."
A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.
Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.
After reading the five previous stories in the ‘Beer and Clay’ series, it was very nice to get a closer look at Christian and Peter’s beginning. They only emerged gradually in the first few books, and nothing much other than “they met on the Internet” was ever said about how they found each other. ‘Tasting’ is the beginning of their story, and I really enjoyed finding out more.
Christian is a soldier. He has to be strong to the point where showing any kind of weakness is not allowed. He has a lot of guidelines about what it means “to be a man” in his head, and none of them seem to fit what he secretly wants in a partner. Christian wants to submit, he wants to be told what to do, and he wants a Master who takes care of him. He has read about BDSM and is curious, but can’t really do anything about it while he is deployed. But Christian is interested, and he has a lot of courage, so he ventures into some chat rooms on the Internet and begins to ask questions.
Peter has tried to find a sub who can be his partner for a long time. He has given up on clubs, and he is beginning to doubt there is anyone to be found on the Internet. But then he comes across Christian, and his curiosity is piqued. As soon as Christian has some leave they get together – both men want to know if the connection they have felt via Skype is there in real life as well.
And boy, is the bond ever there. These guys are super hot together. Christian all shy but incredibly courageous, full of doubts about what he is doing yet willing to follow Peter’s lead. And Peter is the perfect Dom – extremely focused on Christian and what he needs, unrelenting in pushing his boundaries, yet able to be “just a man” when that is what they both want. As the blurb says, this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship and I loved watching it develop as much as I liked reading about the later stages in the other books of this series.
If you like Christian and Peter based on the previous ‘Beer and Clay’ books and want to know more, if a sub who is just beginning to explore his needs sounds appealing, and if you’re looking for a read that is as hot as it is sweet and kinky, then you will probably like this novella.

I was glad that I had read the preceding stories, and knew of the stability of this couple's current relationship. I found this quite a difficult read in places, because Peter moved so fast. Admittedly we don't know the full extent of the conversations that they had online, but for me Peter made some huge assumptions. Christian may not have safe-worded, but when we hear his point of view, he is clearly conflicted. It just skated along the edge for me for most of the book, which was a strange feeling. I think it told the story really well, I did get the point, and believe in the outcome, but it was unsettling.
I love this wonderful flashback story for Christian and Peter. It was wonderful remembrances of how they began. This story really gives a sense of how much courage it took for Christian to even reach out in the first place. It is a wonderful their relationship started at all.

Tasting takes us back to where Peter and Christian first meet. This story is erotica and as such it moves from one sex scene to the next with only the amount of story necessary to keep it ticking along. It was lovely to be back with Peter and Christian and see where it all began. They are a sweet, caring couple and the sex scenes are good. I personally would have liked a little more time taken to flesh out the story and give us more of the emotions of the characters. It would have made the erotic scenes have greater impact.
4.5 Stars ~ Ok, so even though this is book six in the series, it is a flashback to when Peter and Christian meet and the beginning of their relationship. I totally enjoyed going back to the beginning for them and learning how they came to be Dom and sub, and the nuances of their relationship. From the beginning of this series I have enjoyed getting to know these men, so learning how they came to fall in love completes a journey for them, and for us as readers, that has been a pleasure to take.
Peter is such a straightforward personality. He works in absolutes more often than not, and he was concrete right from the get-go that Christian would be his. The premise of their love story has its foundations in online dating where the two found each other in an online forum for BDSM relationships. Peter comes across posts from a shy Sergeant who obviously needs tutoring in the lifestyle and a deeper understanding of what it all means. Posts turn into emails, which turn into Skyping, which turn into agreeing to spend Christian’s next ten day leave together to explore whether their relationship can be the more both men are looking for. This book is those ten days—and what a ten days they are!
Christian has been in the military a long time, he has done multiple tours of duty and suffers from PTSD. He longs to let go and let someone else carry the burden, but he just isn’t wired that way, and being submissive to Peter is something that elates him and scares him all at the same time. Peter is an experienced Dom when they meet, but Christian has never done anything remotely close to BDSM before, so the learning curve is a steep one with these two. Christian is leaving the military in three months so these 10 days are a test run to see if things will work between them.
“I’m not used to this,” he moaned, and the admission made him ashamed. “I know. I’m going to make sure when you leave you are used to it. That you’ve enjoyed ten days of kissing and touching and fucking and coming. You’re going to be sore in places you never dreamed of, stretched in ways you can’t even imagine. It’s going to be amazing.” Peter held his gaze, so serious. “I’m going to change your life.” That was what Christian was afraid of.
This book is not really a stand-alone book, none of the books in this series are. They build on each other and likewise, knowing the future of this relationship helps to understand a lot of Peter’s actions and the way Christian reacts to them. Read the series to get the whole story arc. Tasting is about the budding relationship between two men who are looking for a home, a safe place to land with someone who loves them unconditionally. This series brings together a lot of Sean Michael’s favorite go to themes – strong Doms who look at the world with a little humor, strong military subs who are beautiful in their final submission and living the lifestyle 24/7. Do I think the actual story could have used a little more meat around it’s bones? Yes, but I am still looking forward to the next installment—which I really hope there is one! I recommend this book, but more importantly, I recommend this series!
This whole series, was about Damon and Toby and had Peter and Christian in the back ground. As the series progressed, Peter and Christian became more prevalent.
But we never got the story behind them. NOW WE DO! YIPPEEE
So, they meet in a chat room, Christian, knowing what he thinks he wants, but being career military oversea’s no way.
Peter, looking for a ‘boy’ a sub to spend the rest of his life with is enchanted by him, on many levels. The first being, trainable.
So this is all about Christian and Peter meeting for the first time, Christian being introduced to the wide world of BDSM and having his first encounters in a sexual nature. period.
So we get these two meeting at the airport and the ten days of the holiday that will make or break this relationship.
We already knew, from the series, that they make it. But getting how they made it work, I found amazingly sweet. The one thing I did find a little too fast, was the total sexual encounter they had. With Christian being a virgin, in every aspect I would have expected that to go a little slower.
But the way we got to live the ups and down, simple things that cooking, relaxing, was nice. Made me feel like a fly on the wall. I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review by Crystals Many reviewers
I love Sean Michael's books but somehow out of the gazillions he has written, and of those I have read, I managed up until now to miss the Beer and Clay series. This is number six in that series and I read it as a standalone.
Let's face it, if you are reading Sean Michael it generally has hot kinky sessions between the sheets, and almost certainly guaranteed that one of the protagonists will growl "mine" at some point.
True to form, Peter does exactly that as he contemplates Christian when the boys are getting hot and heavy. Originally, these two guys got to know each other online whilst Christian was on service. Tasting takes place over ten days during Christian's leave from the army. They want to meet in person to see if the connection they feel is as real as they think it is.
I was quite blown away by this on several points find out why on the Boy Meets Boy Blog.
This was a really good BDSM story by an author I love. This is the first book in this series that I’ve read and I feel it can be read as a standalone. Sean Michael is an author that gives me my BDSM story but it is clearly entertaining. I would put this book in line with his Hammer Series; it was fun and loving type of story. I immediately had a connection with Christian (l love my military men) and quickly came to love Peter as well. These characters clearly had a connection to each other that fulfilled both of their needs. As I’ve read many books by this author I can definitely say that there is emotion, yet tenderness in the story as well as a lot of really hot sex. If you like BDSM stories then I would highly recommend reading this book.

Tasting (Beer and Clay #6) by Sean Michael 4.5 stars M/M BDSM, Military I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
This was a story that I enjoyed a lot. This was more of a discovery story. You have Christian who is just learning what he needs and wants and then you have Peter, the established Dom in the relationship.
They have great chemistry and Peter is ever patient with Christian's struggle both internal and external.
It's a quick read, but one that packs a lot in to the short number of pages. You get to see the relationship go from friendship to lovers, but it's not necessarily rushed and most definitely not an insta-love story.
Overall, this was a great short story about finding out what you need and want and not being afraid of going for it.
~I received a free copy of this book to read for Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review~ 5 stars M/M I haven’t read the previous stories but now that I have read this book I will be going back and reading them. I loved this book. It did move a little fast and there were some things that were left out that I would have liked to know, like the internet conversations between Peter and Christian. All that aside this was fast paced and H.O.T. Yes Christian was hesitant and Peter was a little bit pushy but I think it worked for this couple and I simply loved them. I can’t wait to go back and read how they are currently as a couple.
I have been waiting for this one as I loved Peter and Christian in the other books....The way Christian was so unsure, shy, and I suppose damaged from his tours of duty....Peter knew how to bring his boy home and get him into the mind set that he needed...They were just perfect together and I loved how Peter looked after him.......A great edition to the Beer and Clay series x
For everyone who has read the rest of the Beer and Clay series, you can't miss this one. Finally getting the story of how Peter and Christian came together was amazing......... It was over way to quickly
Two strangers find what they need online, lifestyle, companionship, love,...... home. Christian and Peter HOT HOT HOT!!!!! I'm going to miss this fantastic series.....loved it
