The Undead Canadian #1

My Zombie Boyfriend

Rate this book
Edward Grey is a medical student by day, necromancer by night. He lives alone with the first zombie he ever raised, his childhood cat, Boo. Edward's life is simple: studying medicine, training his necromantic powers with his mentor, Mariel, and having weekly dinners with his parents. When he finds a very attractive corpse in a park and brings it home to reanimate, he accidentally creates a sassy, free-willed zombie who believes Edward is the one who murdered him. With no memory of his former life, Edward names the zombie Kit and tries to win his trust. Kit slowly adjusts to his new un-life with Edward's help, though he's still suspicious of Edward's role in his death and is convinced that Edward is hiding his former identity. Edward is very attracted to Kit, but understands why Kit doesn't trust him. As they become closer to one another, Kit turns to Edward for comfort and love. The fragile trust they've built together will be tested when Kit unexpectedly regains his memory and seeks revenge on his murderers.

Okay, after a recent string of zombie-related reads, I think I've finally gotten it out of my system.

This book was not your typical zombie tale, in that zombies are generally mindless flesh-eating machines and our undead hero this time around loved shopping WAY more than brains.

The story begins as Edward, an early-20's medical student, is walking by a park across the street from his house and happens upon the lifeless body of an extremely attractive young man. A young man covered in his own blood after being beaten to death.

Edward is also a necromancer and something about the young man touches Edward, inspiring him to drag the body home and work his magic to bring him back to life.

Kit, as Edward names him, after being reanimated, is not your typical lumbering, brain-dead lump of hot man-flesh. He immediately surprises Edward when Kit can speak and he begins to question what happened to him and how he got there. And, of course, who he was.

This book honestly felt more like Kit was an amnesia victim, instead of someone with a terminal case of the undeads. That was actually pretty refreshing and surprisingly entertaining.

Even in un-death, Kit is a fun, talkative and sassy label whore, who loves nothing more than 'retail therapy' to buy clothes or home furnishings. It was pretty funny, actually.

With a serious case of the slow burns, with only Edward ever really seeming to have any interest in being anything more than roommates, I was beginning to doubt if the book would really go there relationship-wise.

But as Edward and Kit got to know one another better, they did eventually get together, although I have to say they weren't the usual cuddly, lovey-dovey type that really cause my heart to beat when reading about them doing nothing more than doing the dishes together. That part felt a bit lacking to me, to be honest.

Then in a surprising turn of events, Kit recognizes one of his killers while out at a club with Edward and all kinds of "Holy shit, there is the murderous rage that I'd expected from a zombie" breaks loose.

This brings all of Kit's memories back to him in a bloody flood and he wants justice. And vengeance. But Edward can't abide that, so that was the main conflict in the story that tore them apart for a time.

But the boys did work things out and get their HEA, which I did enjoy how the situation was resolved.

Okay, I'm probably going to piss a bunch of my fellow female readers off here, but this question really has been bugging the shit out of me lately.

"Why does nearly EVERY book out there these days, no matter if it features collegiate guys, big nelly hair bear daddies, BDSM dom/sub types, YA *kids* barely out of high school or, in this case, a necromancer and a zombie,

BUT...

Just like Beyonce's "Single Ladies", after you hear it (or in my case read it) for the buh-fucking-jillionth time, it gets kind of annoying and played the hell out.

The topic is kind of "death by chocolate" for me. I love, love, LOVE me some chocolate, but if I were forced to eat it at the end of EVERY meal, welllllllllll, you see what I mean, right?

Rant complete. As you were. : )

I am a zombie girl. Any and all kinds of the walking-moaning dead can make me smile and swoon in horror movie awe. From chills to giggles! My zombies can be gooey, vicious, funny AND adorable. Hey! Zombies can be adorable! :D Kit and Edward are cute as can be together.

We jump right into this tale on a dark, Halloween-ish night as Edward, our awkward medical student/necromancer, stumbles across a body in the park. A dead body! Perfect! He drags the corpse home to his basement and brings him back to life. *Cue ghoulish laugh and flashes of light in the night sky* He’s alive! Alive! Well...sort of. And that’s when the fun begins.

Kit, our back from the dead zombie (Sorry,Kit—I had to use the “z” word.), is snarky, fashionable, beautiful, bossy and constantly in motion. He bakes, cleans, shops, and paints! Kit has more life in him than most living-breathing people. I enjoyed seeing that point pop up in Edward and Kit’s daily routine and life together. Everyone can get stuck in ruts at work and home, but Kit was always moving and changing. He will make you wonder and ask—who really is the “zombie” here? Who’s’ the one dragging and moaning their way through life?

The chemistry between Edward and Kit is cute and sarcastic. Poor Edward usually ended up the butt of the jokes. I didn’t have any laugh out loud moments, but they could pull a smile and smirk out of me in a hurry. Especially when the cats were involved. Boo, the zombie cat, was always making strange noises or dropping fur, ears or tails here and there. The cats were my favorite sidekicks! I really never warmed up to Mariel--Edward’s mentor or Bones--Edward’s ex. Bones would have been an awesome character if he was fleshed out a bit more though.

As Kit begins to adjust to his new undead life, new emotions and desires begin to develop between Edward and Kit. I didn’t feel a huge hunk-a-hunk a burning love or need between these two. For me, it felt more tender and warm. They wanted to make each other happy. Can zombies love though? Even without a beat to their hearts? Edward may find out if he’s willing to risk his own heart.

A cute read with sweetness, rubber duckies, lots & lots of chocolate chip cookies, and z words!

Jump in and have fun.

I went in expecting this book to be one thing and it turned out to be completely different. And it was great right from the start.

Edward is walking along and comes across a recently dead young man. His necromancy gives him the itchy palms and he feels the need to bring back the young man as a zombie. Right from the start “Kit” is different. For one thing he can talk and think perfectly well for himself. The only problem is that he has no memory of who he was before he died. But that works out for Edward anyway, since this way there is no one to ask questions about Kit.

Kit was not the basic cookie cut out zombie. He has a personality and a brain that works. Kit is definitely sassy and has very firm opinions. He is confident, sarcastic, a smart ass, and has no problem showing his scorn over certain things. He also believes in retail therapy. The first time Edward takes Kit to get clothes for himself was just hilarious. Edward was really put through the ringer as he is the exact opposite when it comes to shopping.

I really loved the dynamic these two had together. Both Edward and Kit are likeable man. I enjoyed reading as their relationship grows and changes. Kit takes over Edward’s life. Kit is very much a force to be reckoned with and Edward finds himself following along with Kit’s ideas. Kit also takes over Edward’s house and making changes. It started as Edward’s house and turned into their house. Kit was very much into decorating, cooking, and other things. He never really asked it just kind of started doing it.

There is no on screen sex between Edward and Kit. But I did not find the book lacking in anyway because of it. This was a very character driven story as both Edward and Kit adjust to each other and the circumstance they both find themselves in.

The cast of secondary characters added a nice touch to the ongoings of Kit and Edward. I loved Edward’s parents and his mentor Mariel. They each added they own touch to the overall story.

There are serious moments especially when Kit remembers who he is. But it is overall balanced out very nicely with the many moments of just plain fun to read. Like the first time Kit met Edward’s parents. There are so many instances where I was just laughing at whatever was happening. I will never think of My Little Pony and jelly babies the same again. Edward had his hands full with Kit. But I don’t think he really minded in the end.

This whole book and concept was well written and very nicely executed. I really don’t have one thing bad to say or complain about. OK, well maybe I miss having some sexy time moments. But honestly that is it. I think a book that can have me laughing most of the way through it is just great reading enjoyment.

Kit answered what he could and elegantly shrugged off the questions he couldn't-or wouldn't-answer.
"Do you get erections?" This from my dad.
"Yeah, sometimes. But mostly at really weird moments, not when anything sexy is going on."
Both my parents looked at me, to make sure I had heard that the gorgeous young zombie I had introduced them to could, in fact, get erections. Who could ask for a better boyfriend qualification than that?

*I received a free ecopy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.*

So a college student is walking home one night when he stumbles upon a beautiful dead guy. Since he just so happens to be a necromancer, he reanimates the guy and ultimately ends up living with his very own fashion-obsessed, house-redecorating, charismatic zombie.

As you can probably tell, this isn’t a book to be taken too seriously. But it’s light and fun and great for when you need a palate cleanser or something entertaining to take your mind off of things. It even made me laugh out loud a few times.

I did have a few specific things that I liked and disliked though. I’m someone who’s accustomed to reading books that are really dark and emotional, so it bothered me that Kit didn’t seem very concerned about figuring out who he was, and I would’ve liked to see more emotion in regards to his past since that was mostly skipped over. But that’s personal preference as I know that many readers prefer sticking to the lighter side of things in their romance books.

And speaking of the romance, there were some moments when Edward and Kit were cute together, but other times I felt it was a bit lacking. For me, I think the problem was that the relationship just kind of happened. It wasn’t instalove by any means, but it didn’t have that fun, tense, chemistry-filled build-up either. On the bright side though, it also didn’t have that forced angst that many romances seem to have. It was mostly Edward having feelings for Kit and wondering whether Kit felt the same way while the two of them adjusted to their new situation/lives. However, Edward did put a lot of effort into Kit, and I adored that fondue idea!

As for the characters themselves, some other reviewers have mentioned that they were selfish, and they were, but I was ok with that because I felt it was realistic. I didn’t love how superficial Kit was, but the characters were still entertaining to read about. (I loved when Kit wanted to make the zombie cat’s food festive on Christmas because that is so something I would do.) The book also gets bonus points for have one adorable kitten and one… unique? yeah, let’s go with that… zombie cat.

Last but not least, there was the plot. It meandered a bit and had a lot of time skips, but it did get gripping near the end when things got more interesting and bloody ;-)

So as I said, this wasn’t a particularly deep book, but it wasn’t meant to be. It was supposed to be light and entertaining, and in that regard it delivered. Overall, it had a different take on zombies, it made me laugh, and it was just the light read I needed!

This story took me totally by surprise. Something about it piqued my interest so I wanted to give it a shot. Of course, I hoped to enjoy it, but I had no idea how much I would love it. My Zombie Boyfriend is so different from most of what I read. It's the perfect mix of muted comedy/horror.

I've read a lot of zombie books, but none have ever given this same spin. The undead character is just as normal as the rest of us weird humans, so identifiable. In most zombie books, these creatures are soulless bodies reanimated because of a biblical-ish apocalypse or incurable virus that takes over the world. Edward is a boring medical student, necromancer on the side, who feels the urge to bring Kit back after finding him dead.

Edward tries to just proceed with life as usual with the exception of a new roommate. Kit is so wonderful. He's eccentric, outgoing, very full of life, completely opposite of what a reader would expect. I really got a kick out of how nothing that happens is that big of a deal to anyone in the story. All the characters just roll with whatever for the most part.

There is lots of humor, some cuteness, gore, creepiness—so many clashing themes that somehow mesh perfectly together. I'm very pleased to have come across this story. I couldn't put it down. In my opinion, it feels fun and easygoing while underlining acceptance of everyone. Questioning isn't really it's thing, it's c'est la vie, laissez faire. The author's writing style is particularly entertaining to me; so, I will definitely be looking for more books from her.

Okay, first off, I haven’t read a lot of zombie books, but I hosted this Pride Promotions tour because the cover and the blurb caught my attention. It’s not that I don’t like zombies, lol, it’s just most of them are not exactly what I’d call romantic.

Well, this book is different. There *is* a romance, there *is* humor, and there *is* an interesting plot line. And how many times do you feel sorry for the zombie? Usually you’re too grossed out by them to feel anything but just… grossness, lol.

But in this book, I did feel for Kit (the zombie).

Kit is a murder victim left for dead in a park. You find out the whole story later, which I’m not going into. Edward, a pre-med student who just happens to be a necromancer, finds Kit. *grin* Hey, you gotta have a way to reanimate those dead bodies, and Edward can’t resist the urge to bring Kit back to life.

But something happens, and Kit is unlike any zombie Edward has ever seen. Kit can think and talk… he has a personality. *snicker* Oh, does he have a personality. Can you say high-maintenance? This is a zombie who has more personal hygiene products than a fashion model! As the story goes on, you see the wants, needs, and desires Kit has… and OMG, poor Edward is trailing along trying to figure out what the devil he’s created!

I’ve mentioned the humor and the creepiness and how well the author combined the two. But there are moments of cuteness in this too. Creepy cuteness, lol, but cuteness none the less. Of course you have your gore. It is a zombie book. I mean, you don’t feed your zombie a cheeseburger… unless you’re prepared for some gross results—a zombie’s dietary requirements are different than humans. Boy, lol, are they different.

I really enjoyed this book and the writing style, so much so I’m going to check out the author’s other books.

I am not normally a zombie lover but judging by the cover I took a guess that this might not be your typical zombie book and I was right.
Edward is out when night when he comes across a dead body. He takes it home and then brings him back to life. Edward calls his new zombie Kit.
What follows is the story of Kit trying to learn to live with being a zombie. There is humor here. Apart from the final 20% or so where there might be a little of your usual zombie behavior, there isnt much to tell you that Kit isnt your typical normal guy.
I enjoyed this book. It as my first book by this author and I will be reading further books.

My original review was written for Joyfully Jay reviews and can be accessed here.

Edward Grey is a Canadian medical student who is also a necromancer. He has known his ability to reanimate the dead for most of his life, since he raised his cat Boo. Over the years, he has learned a lot about caring for zombies and is mentored by a vudou woman, Mariel, who also can raise the dead.

Walking through the park one evening, Edward encounters a recently killed young man. It seems the man was a victim of violence, based on his injuries. Instead of summoning the police, Edward elects to bring the young man to his home, where he reanimates him. Wanting to avoid triggering any past memories and possibly enrage his newest zombie, Edward hides the man’s identification and calls him “Kit.”

Kit is understandably upset about his new situation, and–at first–suspects Edward as his killer. Kit, for his part, is a sentient zombie, with emotions and desires. He wants to continue his schooling and go shopping and have a life, even if it is undead. Over time, they develop a tentative friendship, but Edward is increasingly attracted to Kit. Kit is far more stylish and engaging than shy-mouse Edward. Edward often questions whom is the zombie in this partnership.
I liked this story, but it was a little long on Edward mooning. The pace was slower than I generally prefer, occasionally dragging and with a lot of angst on Edward’s part. He’s afraid of Kit, afraid Kit will turn on him, afraid Kit will leave him, and afraid Kit will lose control and go “Zombie eat brains!!!” But, most of all, Edward is afraid to confess his attraction and have suave, stylish, zombie Kit reject him.

The last third of the book introduces the vengeance aspect of the story, and that got pretty interesting. I found the romance to be subtle and a low simmer. When Edward and Kit do get together, it is tentative at first. Then, of course Edward has to agonize about how Kit won’t age while Edward will. Or, if Kit only likes him because they live together. Edward is the kind of guy who borrows trouble.

The book is rather sedate until Kit meets a “stranger” and remembers bits of his old life, in particular the last night of it. We get Kit’s insight then, funneled through his memories that break through into Edward’s mind. Edward tracks Kit’s path of gore, which takes them both to the edge of destruction. The end is peaceful and hopeful with all secrets being revealed. There is no cliffhanger and the HEA is sweet.

I'm a sucker for boy meets boy stories and it's even better when one of them is a bit of a nerd. My Zombie Boyfriend has all that and more.

I'm not a big zombie fan and it took me a while to warm up to the idea of a stone cold lover but after a while Kit' s personality warmed me to him. Edward seemed somewhat strange to me but then a necromancer should be a bit strange.

In many ways the story was a lot more domestic than I expected but when the critical moment came, Kit really "got his zombie on." After a somewhat tentative opening I ended up liking this more than I expected.

If you're a fan of the undead and a bit tired of the "vamp camp" I can recommend this one without any grave concerns. While it never takes itself too seriously it's not just another brain dead romance.

For now I am going to mark DNF @ 47%.

So at the start of this I really thought it was going to be something twisted, funny and all around special. At first Edward kind of reminded of Joe from Caroline Kepnes’ “You”, kind of morbidly twisted and adorable. We meet Edward, a necromancer, in the beginning finding a dead body in park. This body evidently calls to him in a way that makes him want to claim it as his own, he then goes on this short and twisted adventure of trial and error trying to get the body home and reanimated. Honestly it was hilarious and I loved it. If the book continued in that direction I’m sure it would have been a perfect way to ring in the new year.

Unfortunately everything got super boring. There was still sass and humor but it was literally just reading about the day to day lives of two people, or necromancer and zombie, one is a preppy, shopaholic, that had a “holier than thou” attitude (that’s Kit by the way, the zombie...) and the other is a plan ole nothing special necromancer that eats ramen noodles and goes to medical school.

Also at almost 50% there still isn’t really a base for the romance to build on, and no hint that the plot might actually move farther than being just a monologue of two roommates.

I was given a free copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

Edward Grey is a medical student and necromancer. He lives with his cat Boo, who is a zombie he brought back from the dead. When he comes across a gorgeous blond guy in the park, rather than call the police, he brings him home and brings him back to life, naming him Kit. This zombie is unusual though . There is quite a bit of humor in this story that comes from Kit. Edward is very attracted to Kit, but he’s careful not to exert his influence on him. Kit is very suspicious of Edward, thinking he has something to do with his death. Kit does finally relent and they do become boyfriends. Things go well until Kit suddenly gets his memory back and then we get a bit of gruesome zombie bits in the story. Kit is determined to exact revenge one those who killed him.

Overall it was a cute story. It was a nice enough twist on the zombie stories to give it a fresh feel ln the genre. I felt the necromancy the explained well enough to be believable. The thing that bugged me was that Kit was murdered in this town and then brought back and is now walking around carrying on a new life. I don’t care how big of a town you live in, if you are missing and people are looking for you, someone is going to see you out and about. There was never any explanation for this. They didn’t take any pains to hide kit. They went shopping and to clubs. Kit had family and friends in his former life. You should expect people in his former life to see him. I run into people I know frequently and I live in the second largest city in my state. There are over 315,000 people in my county alone. How are people from his former life not seeing him out and about? That really bugged me. Otherwise, it was a good story. It’s good enough that I’d like to read the sequel and the novellas to see what happens next. If you like zombie stories, and want one that’s a bit quirky, this one will hit the mark for you.

I absolutely adore this quirky romance between a fashionista zombie and a medical student necromancer! I initially thought I was going to get some sort of variations of “Warm Bodies” but I was rather surprise of its cliché but very much endearing storytelling!

I just loved Edward (the necromancer) and his adorable necromancer ways! I was glad that his character isn’t over the top. I loved it even more that despite his quirks, he’s still very much normal in comparison to similar characters in other literatures. Oh and his chemistry with Kit!!!! *sigh* Speaking of Kit, isn’t he just the cutest and funniest zombie ever?! He’s like 101% adorbs!

Then we have the supporting characters – Edward’s parents, Mariel and Bone (I’d definitely look forward to his story!!!)

I’m still grinning from ear to east thinking about this book. If you want to have a good laugh then this heartwarming, romantic comedy and eccentric love story is definitely for you!

Bought from another vendor......Have to say I have a new love of rubber duckies! This was an absolute great funny M/M that I have ever read. Props to how original it is!

If you looking for some lovey sap story this sure isn't it lol.

The characters are just simply awesome. Edward the oddball, Kit the poor zombie looking for the perfect cut to the zombie cat Boo. Just freaking awesome and the other sub characters were just as unique to make this a great fun light read.

Have to say the cover is just perfect for this light hearted book and some zombie loving literally.

I have just say you'll have a no love of zombies and rubber ducks in this book. Good times. Highly recommend to M/M fans.

I guess it's a good thing Kit is cute because he has NOTHING else going for him. He's vain, selfish, greedy, lacking in empathy and very nasty towards Boo, which is unforgivable.

Edward Grey is a medical student and lives with the first zombie he has ever raised, his cat Boo. Edwards life is simple, well to him its simple, studying medicine, working on his necromantic powers and the weekly dinners with his family. Edward stumbles across a hot but dead corpse in the park and he is so taken with his beauty that he has to do something for the poor guy.

Kit was murdered and left to die in a park and then Edward comes across his dead body and takes him home and turns him into his very own zombie. Something strange happens that Edward has never seen in another zombie before. Kit can talk, think and has a personality and man this zombie's personality is hilarious and quite demanding. Kit is not like any other zombie and Edward is thinking OMG what have I gotten myself into with this hot zombie and his very high maintenance ways.

I absolutely love all MM zombie stories and I was so intrigued with My Zombie Boyfriend as it so different from all the others. Yes there is gore of course, come on you need some gore in a zombie story, and the best ever humour and a sweet connection between Edward and Kit. The sub-characters of Edwards parents and his mentor Mariel was some great added characters that I thought flowed so well with the story. I was so pleased with the writing style of T. Strange and the brilliant story that she created for us and the way she brings these characters to life..no pun intended (lol) was just the best ever. I highly recommend My Zombie Boyfriend to everyone, even if you have never read a zombie story before make sure to read this one as you will not be disappointed.

I read the blurb from this book and was intrigued, then I saw the cover and just had to read it. As you may guess this is not a "serious" zombie story, there's not a zombie apocalipse going on and Kit is not a mindless, rotting corpse walking the streets loking for brains. No, he's a gorgeous undead guy who loves to go shopping, baking, has an unusual diet and no idea of who he was before he died.

The story is mainly told from Edward's perspective, who is a perfectly normal med student that goes to school, reads a lot and happens to be able to raise the dead at will. At the beggining of the book Edward finds the body of a young man that was killed very close from his house and he feels compelled to bring him home and revive him. Instead of bringing back a zombie with no will, he gets a guy very aware of himself who doesn't seem to like Edward very much.

Since Kit is not a typical zombie, Edward doesn't really know what to do with him, and figuring that out is the main focus of the book. There is an element of romance, their relationship developing slowly trough the book, but I wouldn't call this a romance book, and definitely not an erotica book.

This was my first book from this author and I really enjoyed reading it. You need to leave disbelief at the door with this one, it's necessary to accept how easy some things resolve themselves, but if you do, you end up with a fun, enjoyable read.

I've been a fan of T. Strange since the first story I picked up, so I was thrilled to see this novel. This gem of a book definitely lives up to its promise of humor, light romance, and a bit of creepy fun. I was hooked from page one.
I'm a sucker for quirky characters, and Edward, the narrator, is definitely an oddball. Each of the people we meet are equal parts weird and loveable. I alternated between creeped out, frustrated, and madly in love with all of them by the end of the story.

Since I'm a fan of non-traditional love stories, this definitely hit a sweet spot for me. I don't think it's possible to have a "traditional" romance between a human and a zombie anyway. Readers should be aware that if they are looking for the kind of sexy sensuality or emotional drama found in most romances, they won't find it here. Even so, there's plenty to keep everyone swinging from laughter to creepy shivers to just plain sighing, "Oh, Edward" right along with Kit--sometimes all on the same page.

All in all, I loved it, start to finish. And props to the author for creating the sort of bisexual character I like to see (even though Kit never actually says the word, nor does anyone outright identify him that way).

I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

This is an entertaining and outrageous story. I have a few issues with it, but it kept me engaged and even laughing out loud at a few points.

The characters are fun and well developed, for the most part. But through the first half of the book Edward displayed some character flaws that I never totally got over. Also, even though this is set in a world where necromancers and zombies are real, there were a few mundane things that struck me as unbelievable and lessened my enjoyment somewhat.

I feel like this story is complete as a stand-alone book, and I'm not sure if I'm intrigued enough to pick up the next book in the series. But all in all this was a pretty good story, especially if you're looking for something light and funny.

Four and a half stars!
This story is so fun. I truly enjoyed seeing how Kit and Edward interacted with each other when Kit first woke up. Then how hey danced around each other and fell into a relationship without really talking about it. My heart broke for Kit when he finally remembered everything. No one should have to go through all of that, but for it to basically hit him like it did. Wow. I loved how Mariel was a little bit intriguing, a lot crazy, and the right mixture of both to make her a fun character to read and add to the story’s humor. I truly enjoyed the happy ending, though I want to see more of Edward and Kit.

***I was fortunate enough to beta read this book :)

My Zombie Boyfriend is an unexpected love story. It’s hard to imagine zombies as sexy or compassionate but T. Strange takes zombies and makes them so full of life you forget they’re undead ;)

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one. I’m not usually a zombie story reader, but I was drawn in by the line, ‘sassy, free-willed zombie who believes Edward murdered him’. I liked the story.

In the book we’re introduced to Edward Grey, a fairly odd young man who has the ability to raise the dead. His longest living dead experiment is his cat Boo, who he raised from the dead when he was younger. His parents seem to be totally cool with his being a necromancer, and his friend Mariel is a huge source of support for him. Mariel is also a necromancer, but she creates the scary voodoo sort of zombie we are all familiar with from other zombie books, movies, shows, etc. Edward is different.

When Edward is walking home one night, he stumbles onto the dead body of a beautiful young man in a local park. He drags the body home, does his necromancer stuff, and Kit is born. Right from the start Kit isn’t like any other zombie. He is smarter, cleaner, and way more high maintenance. He doesn’t remember anything from before he died where it relates to himself, but he sure does remember designer labels. Luckily Edward, a medical student, comes from a family with money and so Kit’s spending isn’t an issue.

I kind of had to suspend belief while reading it though. I’m not sure how big the city is where the story takes place, but when Edward finds the body, he also finds the guy’s wallet. He never looks in it, and there is no one looking for this kid? I would think there would at least be a missing person bulletin or something…

Disbelief aside, I did enjoy the book. The author brought us some characters that I enjoyed getting to know, and some that I think we’ll know better in future installments. At some point when my TBR pile goes down I will look into the additional books in the series to see what happens next.

I recommend this one to anyone who might like a fairly light story that involves a sassy zombie.

This was a very entertaining book, I had a good time reading it. I did expect to it to be a little funnier than it actually was but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I liked both main characters, they were fun to read, both very likable. I wouldn’t expect this, since I’m not really a cat person, but one of the things I loved the most about it were the cute cats, they were so sweet. I liked the most the vulnerable moments Kit had, it seemed really frustrating being on his situation.

The plot was nice. I had a little trouble getting myself into it and there were moments where I lost a little bit of interest, but near the end it got very exciting and I couldn’t stop reading. It was nice to see a different kind of zombie story. Not that I don’t like zombies, I don’t particularity love them either, but it was great to see one that went beyond what’s expected. I had a little issue about some parts of the plot that felt a little unexplained, but in general it was a good book.

"I am cool. Kit's cool. You're Edward"
AMAZING

This book was different than anything I have ever read, it was funny, scary and totally COOL!
I have to admit that at first I was close to marking it as "not for me" because seriously, who finds a dead boy and takes him home? It was a little bit too much for me. After 10% I was happy that I started reading it through.

This story is kind of weird - relationship between a zombie and a young guy? - but it is a good kind of weird. There's everything I was looking for - some sweet romance, crime, pets (zombie cat!), some mystery and voodoo.

It was absolutely great and I can't wait to read more about Kit and Edward (Ward lol)

Weird but fun

This story hits the ground running.
Edward is on the way home and finds a beaten dead body of an attractive man, he brings him home and seeing as he's also a necromancer decides to bring this man back to life. He names his new zombie Kit.
Kit isn't an ordinary lurching zombie he's retained all his personality and he shows it, Edward introduces us to Mariel another necromancer and also his ex Bones who's not quite human.
Edward is a kind and caring man who helps Kit as much as he can to settle into his new life but in my opinion is not treated as fairly back. I don't mind Kit specifically but I'm not wholly impressed with him, Edward bends over backwards for him while still studying medicine.
The byplay between Edward and his parents are great too.

This was a new to me author and the series name caught my attention...The Undead Canadian.
Being Canadian, I was intrigued and was immediately pulled into Edward's creepy life. He's a necromancer and has a gross zombie cat.
When he comes across the fresh dead body of a beautiful guy, he doesn't think and just brings him back to life. What ensues is a strange mix of cohabitation, amnesia, shopping and some feelings.
Kit seems to be adjusting to his new existence but Edward wants more. I desperately wanted more steam!!!
