Four of Richard Matheson's classic tales of terror are collected in this graphic novel collection: I Am Legend, Hell House, Duel, and The Shrinking Man.
Read the first few stories a few months back, then set it down when I hit “I am Legend.” I’m just not that interested.
Today I picked it up again (trying to clean up my half-read and unread horror books for the season) and read Hell House. It pulled me in.
We have the usual tropes here. The scientific skeptic. The mystic. We have a wise man of sorts, also a former mystic. Finally, we have the scientist’s wife, who adds an interesting element to the story.
A bit shocked at how tit-tastic this story was, since the others were so absent of it. Given the content and theme of the hauntings it made sense though.
Overall the last story was the hit of the collection. Like I said, I can’t do “I am Legend.” I skipped it
Four classic stories, two of which have been made into movies, one multiple times (I am Legend). I've never read the stories so I'm not sure how much of the text makes it in here, but the art is really great.
Three of the four were decent tellings of Matheson tales with decent art. Then there was I am Legend which I largely skimmed through since it was less a graphic novel and more the actual novel with illustration. There was a ridiculous amount of text, and it went on for way too many pages.
