The twelfth book in The Cheetah Girls series is told from the perspective of Aqua (again, no POV from Angie).

After meeting Mariah Carey, everyone is on a high, but Aqua's dad seems to have fallen ill after being hexed by his priestess girlfriend (yep) and Aqua and Angie consult a hoodoo doctor to try and save him.

I mean, the ridiculous plot aside, at least it was more interesting than Chanel doing ballet and Dorinda scoring free Mariah Carey tickets. However, we do need to stop these pages upon pages of recaps of everything that's happened previously. We don't need to know the backstory of Dorothea Garibaldi in every single book - this is just getting tiresome now.

I never really liked the whole priestess storyline in these books, I did find it really ridiculous, so hopefully this is the end of that. She kept making Aqua's and Angie's dad drinking weird shakes and has a group of friends who are more like a "cult", and hexing their father is ... strange to say the least. It did get a little dramatic when Aqua and Angie find their dad in his bedroom and he's dazed and needs to go to hospital, but it still didn't count for much in the grand scheme of cheetah things.

The end is promising as the girls FINALLY get a call from the record producer and the wheels now seem to be in motion for their music career. Let's hope the last four books actually keep on topic.

In the House with Mouse
All the Cheetah Girls and their families are all at a Mariah Carey concert. In the last book, she gave Dorinda twenty-five tickets when she heard about how her new foster sister Gaye was abandoned. After the concert, the CG’s scheme on how to get backstage. Galleria daydreams about the CG’s one day singing there (at the Madison Square Garden). Aqua thinks about how it’s been a minute and they haven’t heard from Mouse Almighty who promised them studio time but they haven’t heard from him. The T-shirt vendor gives them directions backstage, but they're a huge, security, guard. Some of them leave, but Mrs. Doretha isn’t intimidated. Mrs. Bosco walks right up to the guard outside Mariah’s dressing room and tells them who they are, but the guard isn’t swayed and says that the rest of the people are waiting for her too. So, they decide to wait it out,

After a while, a lady with a clipboard comes out and says basically they got the tickets be grateful with that. She says all the others are “guests” too, but she says she’ll see what she can do and leaves. So, it’s back to the waiting game. While they’re waiting Tiffany gets Galleria to sing the song she wrote about Dorinda inspired by her. Finally, they’re allowed five minutes and they all meet Mariah and take pictures with her. After this, she has to be at an event called “The Angel Ball”.

On the way home, they think about how strange their Dad is acting (just because he says he remembers how it was when he meet Mile’s Davis in another life). That night, the twins lay in bed and bitch about the High Priestess. Then they pray about the prevention of her bringing any more of ugly objects into their house. The next day they have vocal lessons at The Conservatory and spill the tea to everyone (including Drinka) about meeting Mariah. There’s a new guy (in snakeskin pants) that catches their attention. He introduces himself as Eddie Lizard. He says he’s from LA and Galleria starts telling him about when they went to Hollywood. He says he’s an actor and he came there to get vocal training (His dad knew Drinka way back), Aqua realizes that she saw him on a horror movie. Aqua realizes that she feels something for this boy that she hadn’t before. He says his father has ties to Voodu. Aqua notices that he’s noticing Galleria and Chantel and wonders if she should tell him about the High Priestess. Aqua decides she doesn’t have a chance.

Especially when she sees Galleria chatting him up after class. Eddie talks to them a little while about his journey (and struggles) with acting and then invites them to have something to eat with him later. But Aqua says they have to go help their dad. Angie calls her out on the way home about being jealous. When they get back to their apartment, the lights are on, and the mail hasn’t been opened. Aqua reads her horoscope it tells her watch out for deceivers (wolves in sheep's clothing). She thinks it might be about Eddie. Then they hear a noise coming from upstairs. So, they go over to a neighbor’s house, but the only one there is their Spanish housekeeper. The markings on the mask the HP brought over are more red. Their father is lying in the bed. He comes to and calls Aqua “Maddie” and tells her he never meant to hurt her. The twins decide they should get him to the hospital. The housekeeper notices red and black candles on the counter. Esmeralda presses something that look like gingerbread men into their hands.

They call up Chanel and asl can they translate. Chanel says that they should get their father out he’s been hexed by a Bruju witch. Eddie says I don’t take him to a hospital. He needs to go to a vodu practioner. Chanel says Eddie can get his father to come over, but Aqua says they’re taking their father to the HOSPITAL. Esmeralda doesn’t want them to take him to the doctor but Aqua isn’t hearing that.

The doctor says other than being dehydrated and having a low blood pressure he’s fine and they’ll release him in the morning. Aqua knows this can’t be true. Angie and Aqua argue over who could have put the stuff on their Daddy’s dresser. Aqua thinks it’s obvious. Dr. Lizard says when he sees the bedroom that it’s the work of someone who made a pack with the devil to win the love of a man forever. He says she probably burned photos of the women he loved in the past to make sure that he won’t love anyone else. Nor harbor any old flames. Then he examines the objects, There’s a piece of elephant tusk, an alligator tooth, and the bill of a mockingbird in a mojo bag, She’s created an alter with black candles for negative forces and red for passion. There are voodoo dolls stuffed with straw and his bodily fluids, nail clippings, and clothes, He says that something must have gone wrong to make her go to this extreme.

Aqua thinks that it must be her mother he still has feelings for. So, Dr. Lizard takes some of his own stuff and undo’s the hex. Eddie and his father (Galleria, Aqua, and Angie) go to the crossroads to remove the remnants of the spell. When it’s done, they all go to the hospital. Galleria asks what they’ll tell their mother. Aqua says they’ll just have to tell her the truth. Galleria worries thtat their mother will make them come home and break up the CG’s. Dr. Lizard prepares a concoction that will help undo the spell. Dr. Liard writes his name on paper with dragon ink. He then chants an incantaction and puts a doll on his chest. He also says now the HP will know he doesn’t like her and she’s failed so she’ll move on to her next victim.

The next day Mr. Walker is discharged. When the High Priestess calls Aqua tells her to kick rocks and she hangs up. They’re all invited over to Galleria’s for dinner and Galleria is kick of snappish. Eddie’s been calling too much. At dinner they get a history lesson about Frank’s name skae”, Then they get a call from “Mouse Almighty”, He says he’s ready to get the CG’s in the studio. Mrs, Doretha says they’ll have to wait until Chanel isn’t using crutches. She says she’ll make an appointment for next week, which will give them time to practice.

My Thoughts:
Because I hadn’t read this series in a minute, I’d forgotten just how much this plot line ANNOYS me! For a book called “In The House With the Mouse.” It didn’t get into this happening until the very last chapter and the last sentences. I was thinking over how very CLEARLY this author is CHRISTIAN and goes out of her way to portray it in this character “The High Priestess” and it really disturbs me. At first, I didn’t see the reason they hated this lady so much. She’s a “witch” ok. She hangs with “odd people” (a coven). She’s into herbs. Now I don’t deal with a whole lot of herbs but I’ve read tons of books that talk about the benefits of herbs (in cooking and health). She got her dad to redecorate. YES, LOCK HER UP AND THROW HER IN THE INSANE ASYLUM. But it wasn’t HER house she was trying to get him to redecorate because then we could say she was using him for his money. It’s HIS apartment. Maybe it WAS a little impulsive for him to redecorate so soon but hey people CAN do that. The only thing I can really fault Aqua and Angie’s dad with is the “weird” way sometimes men let themselves be used and act blind to it. But what was this lady using him FOR? But in this in the end she does turn out to be what they think she is evil and manipulative. I don’t know I just think she was set up to fail from the beginning because while YES there are people that practice “dark magic” (and I really don’t know where I stand on hexes. My uncle’s girlfriend is a big believer of hexes and when she talks about “women in vents putting hexes on my uncle” it just makes her sound INSANE) not all “witches” are like that. I guess it tried to balance this by showing Dr. Lizard using magic to heal and for good. But this character has just always left a sour taste in my my mouth because I know that this sometimes is how Christians view “witchcraft” and *this* isn’t always accurate. So, it just made me CRINGE and I’m glad that in this book she was dismissed so I don’t have to read about Angie and Aqua’s negativity anymore. They didn’t even take Dr. Lizard seriously and he HELPED their dad. So with all this prejudice going on, I can’t really say I liked this book. It just rubbed me the wrong way.

No Rating: The HP to me felt like she was designed to justify a FALSE belief in what being a pagan is about and I just can’t condone that. It even felt wrong to me that she *did* turn out to have malicious intentions. I wanted at least for the twins to find out she wasn't who they thought but in the way that she wasn't the one causing their father to be sick. Maybe they'd find out he had a medical condition that he was keeping a secret and she was using a spell and the herbs to help him, but nooo it had to go the evil route that she's trying to control him (rolls eyes).

"It's not fair that male artists can be as big as the post office, but nobody says anything. I don't like the fact that people expect female artists to be skinny, like Mariah, Kahlua, or Whitney—it just isn't right."

OH DEBORAH THE ICON THAT YOU ARE.
So many things to digest here. Voodoo? Spells? Witchcraft?WHY is it always the twins‘ POV that has the most spooky moments ever? And the biggest question is why did I enjoyed this one the most?

Honestly this was the best book that was told from the twins’ POV so far. I enjoyed the jokes and the storyline. It was the best way to end the third arc of the cheetah girls, truly amazing.

Also these should be hanged in the Louvre
"UFO?" Abala repeats, balking.
"Yes, ma'am-because you're definitely from another planet!”
Aqua gagged her for sure!
